Zoomer here, i've been playing these for the first time and i gotta say they're very underrated. Despite the long animations and slow story segments it being doubles, having set rule by default, limited mons and hitting the late game difficulty curve makes them both really enjoyable games.

limited mons automatically makes a game tolerable all by itself

I don't get the people who say colosseum is better than XD. Purifying in that game is a massive fricking chore, one shadow mon per opp, and shadow rush being the only shadow move makes the game so shallow
>I don't get the people who say colosseum is better than XD
It's purely because they prefer Ws; edgy design over Michael's.

I think the feel of Orre is just better realized in Colosseum. The vast majority of the game is set in grimy, seedy, lived-in locations with characters that feel very grounded (even with their crazy Yu-Gi-Oh designs). It's very unique for a Pokemon game.
Then in XD things get a lot more kiddie. You start in a bright and cheery lab, the ratio of dirty, lived-in locations to clean, bright ones drops, and characters get a lot more cartoonish. It's just a personal preference thing.
So yea, it's just Colloseumgays are edgyegays.
*aesthticgays.
XD make a huge shift back towards the series usual aesthetic, which is a downright sisyphean task due to colosseum being a 3d duology
Not the anon you're talking to, but up till the release of SV, I thought the XD protagonist had the worst player character design of the series
He pulls off that look better than Nate, honestly. I dunno how you go from "really solid Red look-alike" to one of the worst protagonist designs in the series, but I'm sure you probably feel the same about the GameCube titles.
The 3d model looks bad but his design can be stylized.
You could make a point that it was intended to be changed. It's been 5 years but the fair point to make would be that they fricked up the transition big time.
>I don't get the people who say colosseum is better than XD
I agree that Colo is dated as frick, but it was the teams that were the core of fun. I would never bring Granbull, Furret, Jumpluff or Noctowl near end game because they're just awful. But they filled the support role very well because of permanent doubles. Then we get things like Gen 3 Surf that only hits opponents. XD is definitely the most replayable in comparison, though
There IS a charm to overcoming the challenges with having as limited options as possible.
I never played xD because I had Colosseum as a kid and just didn't really like it, I played it begrudgingly to get Smeargle in Ruby because he was one of my favorites along with Typhlosion
>XD
you have to go back
>having set rule by default, limited mons
I don't see how either of these things make the game better
>and hitting the late game difficulty curve
ok but what if my IQ is > 50 and I didn't waste my time leveling the johto shitmons the game tries to get me to use
They're some of my favorite Pokemon games. I absolutely love the world of Orre. Kind of sad there weren't more, but at the same time that's kind of a good thing. There's a overhaul for XD that increases difficulty and adds new Pokemon among other things and it's a blast to play.
The actual experience of playing through trainer in hallways simulator is horrendous. I enjoy the limited selection of mons as it is the reason why the Ralts line is one of my favorites and the Battle Sims anre fricking kino. But as a whole they are overated.
>they're very underrated
They are. Don't listen to Tranniashi Hiroka and their simps. They are secondary homosexuals.
If you like XD, XG is a good hack that adds moves up to Gen 7, Fairy type, Alolan Ninetales/Marowak, and more shadow/pokespot mons
If you didn't use the Johto shitmons you didn't beat it
>XD
Frick off.
GoD is good. I like the trade mons that are available.
