Melee isn't a normal game, it was made in about a year, and most of the oversights added an insane amount of depth and things to learn that players are still working on till this day.
Lots of "if your good enough, you can do X" and they've known it for 20 years, but still are not good enough.
The amount of characters and no updates/balance changes means the meta never changes until some wizard discovers things that can counter other things. There are "tier lists", but even high tiers can be exploited.
The movement feels really weird compared to melee, every character feels too floaty, and the edges are extremely forgiving meaning you just knock the opponent away and they recover almost every time
This. It was too floaty and they increased the damage threshold to recover.
>should have moved on
Why do you care what games other people play anon? What does it have to do with you at all? What effect does it have on your life?
>we exploit bugs and glitches for added interest
death of the author is more prevalent in video games than literally anything else due to their interactive nature. The bugs and glitches make the game more fun, so we like them, simple as that. >we should have moved on 19 years ago
If it's not fun, why bother?
The movement feels really weird compared to melee, every character feels too floaty, and the edges are extremely forgiving meaning you just knock the opponent away and they recover almost every time
ults basically what brawl shouldve been
its like a half-step between casual and competitive and theres a ton to learn about what does and doesnt work in it from a development perspective
so its too bad theres probably not gonna be much going for the series after it
The gameplay is unironically still the best in the series--and not just at a high level. It was so much fun as a total shitter because its so fast paced and precise feeling.
It's simply the most fun to play and move around in at a high level. And since Nintendo would rather pretend the competitive community doesn't exist, there is no pressure or incentive to play the next version of the game if it isn't as fun, unlike with Capcom for example who is bigly involved with the scene.
it's not worth it for nintendo to get involved. thank our society who prefers to settle in certain waters, and ignore other pools even if those pools were made by engineers with prestige. if you dont have an established, organically grown community ( that's not self flagellating such as the competitive melee community ) , then nobody spends any time in your scene, no matter how much money you dump into it
This also. The community had no choice but to build itself up slowly and organically, and it's still strong today because of that. There was no multiplayer when this game came out. People met face to face and traveled across the country to play.
melee has fast, twitchy controls and movement, like a racing motorcycle.
ultimate movement is more floaty, slow, and forgiving, like an automatic commuter sedan.
melee is a different viewing experience because 1 hit can lead to a death combo, so even if someone is way behind in % they can still come back if they play perfectly. ultimate is more just about stacking % until you can finally hit the super floaty characters out of the giant blast zones.
A creative use of Pokemon Stadium models is way fricking better than "Let's rip the models of Delfino Plaza, Skyloft, etc. and just have some platforms float around it for a stage!"
Pretty much every stage in Melee is enjoyable to fight on except for maybe Icicle Mountain.
Even in a casual setting Melee, and P+ if you count that, is probably the best Smash to play. It's snappy and responsive, the stages are all great, the music is phenomenal, the items are fun to use without being too bullshit.
Then with PM and P+ you have even more characters and you can go full Mugen tier with shit like that you'd never get out of an official Smash experience. Without all of the bullshit of subsequent entries.
Ultimate is okay for accessibility because everyone has a fricking Switch now and you can't expect everyone to have an old console or setup emulation, but it'll never compare.
>was at some summer camp >they set up a tv and did a melee tournament
the sad part is modern games are fricking lucky less people get to experience shit like that. I got peer pressured into playing Kirby since everybody else was and fricking lost first round, frick you
>only fighting game you dont have to worry about getting Black folk in your friendlies >doesnt constantly get new characters to learn >get to stomp zoomers that try to play
pretty obvious why its the best fighting game.
autism
zoomers are in their 20s, you tell us Black person

It's also very very fun, hope that helps!

>just consume product and then move on to the next product. Only current fotm matters
Because every version after it sucks dick
isnt smash ultimate pretty good except for the net code?
The movement feels really weird compared to melee, every character feels too floaty, and the edges are extremely forgiving meaning you just knock the opponent away and they recover almost every time
Melee is far more floaty
Literally git gud gaygit
>the edges are extremely forgiving meaning you just knock the opponent away and they recover almost every time
bro just run off and use a back air
ults basically what brawl shouldve been
its like a half-step between casual and competitive and theres a ton to learn about what does and doesnt work in it from a development perspective

I just like it because there's a lot of funny esoteric jank you can do to make your opponent laugh
brawl is fun
Everyone plays it, therefore you must know it.
The skill ceiling is massive and it gets more fun the better you
They can’t move on
The gameplay is unironically still the best in the series--and not just at a high level. It was so much fun as a total shitter because its so fast paced and precise feeling.
>tfw 0:50
. The game has levels of soul that shouldn't even be possible, shouldn't even be legal.
>most gameplay depth in the series
>best netplay
It's really no wonder

POST RESULTS gayOTS
I already know who I main.
Because the game is fun and fast
because its superiority is unmatched
>a bunch of recycled models from stadium, thrown into a generic backdrop
Reminder this is "LE SOUL!!!!1" meleegays drone on about endlessly.
t. ultimate dev mad he didn't think of that
A creative use of Pokemon Stadium models is way fricking better than "Let's rip the models of Delfino Plaza, Skyloft, etc. and just have some platforms float around it for a stage!"
Pretty much every stage in Melee is enjoyable to fight on except for maybe Icicle Mountain.
You make a better game in a year then
>make a game on an extremely rushed time table
>use every trick in the book to add a large amount of memorable stages to the game
you just described soul.
For me, it’s project m ex remix.
PM was the closest the community ever came to "moving on" and we know how that ended up. I miss that heyday like you wouldn't believe.

bunch of old men who peaked in their tweens missed their favorite game to play at sleep overs so much that they never let it go.
melee > ultishit
>Melee thread where it's not a bunch of buttmad ultizoomers trying to shit on it
Ganker is healing
its fun
>only fighting game you dont have to worry about getting Black folk in your friendlies
>doesnt constantly get new characters to learn
>get to stomp zoomers that try to play
pretty obvious why its the best fighting game.
Because it focused on gameplay and single player content instead of character roster autism
It wouldn't be character rostro autism if it weren't for moronic echo fighters and first party DLC
>*roster
No GOML thread today?
make one
Is good game
