I've set up a RetroPie the other day. Main takeaway so far is that Dreamcast was based, and Crazy Taxi is probably more ADHD than most phone games.
I think it's not the old blockbuster kinda games I miss as much as I miss deranged arcade games with a budget. You can still play a game sorta like Deus Ex today even if it may not be as well-executed. In fact, I think the problem today is that EVERYONE wants to make the next Deus Ex.
If you just want to grind out a tight and fun gameplay loop, feels like you have to pick between zero budget jank, free to play slop and roguelites that cap the fun you're having right now so they can slowly trickle it into the game in the form of RNG loot.
