there's some way to run every .exe through proton but, still, not easier than just double clicking on windows
Valve and RedHat just see Linux as tools, and Canonical is almost dead so yeah, plus Proton doesn't magically run everything

      >linux
      >oh shit my game doesn't work
      >time to spend 4 hours trying to solve this issue

for me Just Cause 2 is easier to run on Linux than Windows 10, though, spent +1h for Windows 10 vs just launching it with Proton
if Proton gets literally 1:1 with Windows it might magically be even better than old games, we'll have to see that

        >How easier it could be
You don't get it, Linux will never be viable for these morons unless it's EXACTLY like Windows. Even if the Linux way was potentially "easier", it's still not like Windows, so it doesn't count.

all it take is Microsoft releasing Windows 13 SE that is SO drastically different from previous iteration (Windows 12.2) that Windowcucks might think it's not much different switching to Linux than it is switching to Windows 13 t. boomer who seen windows versions 3.1 to 8 and remembers the pain in the ass it is to switch

Your best bet for non-Windows PC gaming going forward is Linux, but it's never going to run every game perfectly. It's already really good by "holy crap I can run this game on the wrong operating system?!" standards, but we all know it's not perfect, even those of us who enjoy pointlessly arguing with Windows shills about how good it is.

Basically you have a choice. How much do you hate Windows? If you can tolerate it, you probably want to use Windows in spite of how shitty it is, because it can run "everything" (not really but at least PC Gaming Wiki has most of the necessary fixes). If you really really hate Windows, then you use Linux in spite of some games not working on it (which is irrelevant if you don't play those games, but this is Ganker so not liking Fortnite is sour grapes).

Steam already tried this. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink it. I think a lot of you guys dont realize how much ease of access and user friendly UIs attract the common person. Its why iPhones and OSX is so popular with old people. Its simple, clear and generally has a straight foward organization method.

      Anonymous

If phones are the gold standard, than GNOME is far closer to a phone UI than Windows is. If you are talking about Windows-like UIs, than KDE and LXQT are just more streamlined versions of Windows. For one thing there's only ONE settings menu which has everything you need, and searching for stuff on your OS from the taskbar is not complete shit. Windows UI has gotten so bloated over the years it's anything but simple, everyone is just used to the bullshit.

We also need dedicated gaming hardware.
The only one really making an effort is AMD. Intel added cuck cores which are completely useless for gaming. The die size they're wasting on them they could've dedicated to more cache. Despite having better single core performance, they're still tying with a 5800X3D. Using 3D stacking they made a CPU with a ton of extra cache, which is basically useless for almost any other application, but for gaming has huge benefits.
Nvidia just went full moron and is dedicating like 40% of their die size on GPUs to AI acceleration, which is fricking useless for gaming. Even DLSS isn't an excuse anymore with FSR2.0 almost matching it with absolutely no dedicated hardware required and way less development so far. It'd probably be matched by now if it had anywhere near the same amount of development. Measuring it at the same time after release FSR2.0 is already miles ahead of DLSS. Nvidia just wanted to cut their costs and reused the same shit they use for AI data centers on gaming cards. Meanwhile AMD implemented infinity cache, which again is useless for almost anything else but hugely beneficial to gaming. They also made resizable bar a standard feature, which is useful in some games. They also don't add fricking useless AI accelerators to their GPUs. 100% of the die area are dedicated to pipelines that are solely responsible to rasterizing.

Cache is expensive as frick and with Moores law in full effect, they can't sell you the same CPU every year without intentionally gimping something.
