>We need a gaming os for pc games
we already have one no one's using it because windows is the main gaming platform
Make piracy easy on Linux and I'm in
>Pirate windows game
>Run it with wine
How is that hard?
>linux
>oh shit my game doesn't work
>time to spend 4 hours trying to solve this issue
and you have to do this for almost every older game.
>linux versions of games
>DOSbox
>gamedatapackager
>luxtorpeda
>johncena141 torrents
you are full of shit
and on windows i just install and play
wow nice job lintard complicating the process
>moving the goalposts
he was responding to the claim of "almost every older game" requiring "4 hours" of troubleshooting, you subhuman
>complicating the process
there wouldn't be any complication if devs put out native linux versions
it's the job of the software to be compatible with the operative system, not the other way around
you don't insert an Xbox 360 disk into a ps3 and then cry when it doesn't work
actually, the fact that windows games work at all on linux is nothing short of a miracle
Just run through Lutris, boom done
>older game
same shit happens on windows
And after doing that it will work on linux, but you are still unable to run it on Windows
Link to YouTube vid or something il give it a try
don't know if Wine can be run through Steam but that's the easy way to do it on Steam
>can't look it up himself
and you want to use Linux, lol
Linux is garbage
I hate windows but i mostly works
Linux does mostly not work
Windows is garbage
I like Linux and it mostly works On My Machine™
Windows mostly pisses me off
Both piss me off
Linux more
Constantly driver issues
It even fricks up booting frequently
Mostly used ubuntu tho
is that why it dominates the server market, where working 99% of the time is mandatory?
linux only ever has problems with things that weren't designed for it
You probably confuse linux with unix
>Linux meme
cope
there's some way to run every .exe through proton but, still, not easier than just double clicking on windows
Valve and RedHat just see Linux as tools, and Canonical is almost dead so yeah, plus Proton doesn't magically run everything
for me Just Cause 2 is easier to run on Linux than Windows 10, though, spent +1h for Windows 10 vs just launching it with Proton
if Proton gets literally 1:1 with Windows it might magically be even better than old games, we'll have to see that
https://1337x.to/user/johncena141/
How easier it could be? I just downloading most repacks and run them through Lutris, they even add special feature which will create dedicated wine prefix for your game.
>How easier it could be
You don't get it, Linux will never be viable for these morons unless it's EXACTLY like Windows. Even if the Linux way was potentially "easier", it's still not like Windows, so it doesn't count.
all it take is Microsoft releasing Windows 13 SE that is SO drastically different from previous iteration (Windows 12.2) that Windowcucks might think it's not much different switching to Linux than it is switching to Windows 13 t. boomer who seen windows versions 3.1 to 8 and remembers the pain in the ass it is to switch
Personally I no longer care. Linux application support and drivers have become so good that we don't need new users or a larger market share. I'll help anyone looking to switch, but not if they act like an entitled moron.
If 8, 10, and 11 were not enough then they will never change.
Why? Use steamos or whatever, but really what's the point of restricting a computer to only being able to play videogames? I mean frick, half the fun of pc games is being able to mess with and inspect the files.
Because look at that pc handheld
Its a fricking mini laptop
Nah something with Gz
Yeah, and why restrict it to only playing games?
>Nah something with Gz
With GUI like ps or switch has and is easily controllable with touch input
>We need a gaming os for pc games
so windows, but a different name?
windows is an enterprise software OS with a million hacks on top to make it usable for games
>pic
what game?
>the game is horribly out of date native
Only two games I know of where the devs abandoned the linux version is warband and rust.
linuxbros, how do i run the old la mulana freeware on steamos? i even tried with an xp and w7 virtual machine, but nothing.
i don't want to resign myself to play the one on steam, it looks ugly
sometimes with older games the older versions of proton work better, try that.
tried, nothing
Maybe wine is the answer?
Wine HQ rates it as silver
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=6871
You should be able to get wine 5.0.1 like they used there running with Bottles.
https://usebottles.com/
https://lutris.net/games/la-mulana/
>2012
>gog
nope
i think i had tried this, i'll try again just in case
i fricking wish they had ported the original to wii so that i could just fire up dolphin.
I misunderstood. Is it an .exe? What's stopping you from adding it as a non-steam game and launching with a compatibility tool
it just crashes
and fricks up my resolution
and screen orientation
Its fricking moronic you STILL have to use winblows to play most games on pc
Thank god valve is finally doing something about this. Microwiener needs to disappear yesterday
I want Linux to become an alternative, but it's not something I'm willing to contribute to.
What kind of nerd homosexual actually gives a shit about their OS?
I click install, play, and the game works.
>mooooo
>moo
shut the frick up Black person cattle.
it's because of people like you that microsoft gets away with putting ads in the start menu
No it doesn't
At least if you pirate
steam deck is really big
>install windows on steam deck
>everyone loses their fricking minds
>shoot myself on the foot
>people around freak out
nice hyperbole
Your best bet for non-Windows PC gaming going forward is Linux, but it's never going to run every game perfectly. It's already really good by "holy crap I can run this game on the wrong operating system?!" standards, but we all know it's not perfect, even those of us who enjoy pointlessly arguing with Windows shills about how good it is.
Basically you have a choice. How much do you hate Windows? If you can tolerate it, you probably want to use Windows in spite of how shitty it is, because it can run "everything" (not really but at least PC Gaming Wiki has most of the necessary fixes). If you really really hate Windows, then you use Linux in spite of some games not working on it (which is irrelevant if you don't play those games, but this is Ganker so not liking Fortnite is sour grapes).
Windows 10 prevented me from opening Steam and when I restarted it started pushing me to switch to Windows 11 which I heard is spyware. Will this be a recurring thing?
>2022
>PC is still stuck with ancient x86
We NEED a good ARM Desktop OS
the transition from DOS to windows was long and grueling, WO that won't happen for some time
thank god the Steam Deck is x86_64 or it wouldn't be able to fricking run ANYTHING.
And it's a huge, heavy, hot mess with <2 hour battery life because of it
Sounds like a good trade to me
>tfw you fricked up Pokemon so bad that Tamashii, arguably the biggest Pokemon nerd in the world, quits not only the game but making new Pokemon videos for like 2 years out of raw disappoint ment
How do you frick that up?
WTF
macos and linux
Steam already tried this. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink it. I think a lot of you guys dont realize how much ease of access and user friendly UIs attract the common person. Its why iPhones and OSX is so popular with old people. Its simple, clear and generally has a straight foward organization method.
If phones are the gold standard, than GNOME is far closer to a phone UI than Windows is. If you are talking about Windows-like UIs, than KDE and LXQT are just more streamlined versions of Windows. For one thing there's only ONE settings menu which has everything you need, and searching for stuff on your OS from the taskbar is not complete shit. Windows UI has gotten so bloated over the years it's anything but simple, everyone is just used to the bullshit.
>windows is bloated
Correct which is why most old people and zoomers favor MacOS over Windows without even taking the Apple aesthetic into account. Windows computers are generally seen as the poor man's computer as it is.
Windows ironically just works and has more FPS.
Linux cucks are just coping. It's good fot everything but gaming.
I don't need Windows
Okay. Well I do because I play video games
Me too. See
.
Kek frick you I will never install Linux on anything other than my old ass PC just to dick around with. With Windows I just install a torrent client, download what I want and play. Simple as.
>With Windows I just install a torrent client, download what I want and play.
You cant do this on linux?
the only thing pirate wise that is a problem is highly compressed repacks of huge file size games, wine runs out of memory. EMPRESS cracks absolutely do not work under wine on linux either
No, Torvalds will come to your house and kick you in the face for daring to torrent a game.
>EMPRESS cracks absolutely do not work under wine on linux either
That smells of something shady going on that can't be properly emulated by Wine. If it can run the game through Steam, it should be able to run a cracked version.
well frick knows what has to be done to the exe to get past all the denuvo shit, either way I don't really trust EMPRESS. Sounds mental. I just run them in my windows vm but lots of people are just running them straight up
Thing is, Denuvo works in Wine, so removing/neutering it shouldn't cause any problems with compatibility. At least that seems logical, but I could be wrong.
MAybe they use something that adds more dependencies and it just needs some visual c++ re-distributable installed but I never put much effort into trying to get it working as I'd rather run it through a vm anyway. No one knows how they do it which I suppose is why they are the only person who can crack it
>We need a gaming os for pc games
yeah it's called windows
reactos
Tell Google's homosexual ass to give up on that cloud shit and make a Linux desktop is or steam is going to beat them to market. Google is fricking moronic to not use steam as advertising for a desktop is that is Linux based.
We also need dedicated gaming hardware.
The only one really making an effort is AMD. Intel added cuck cores which are completely useless for gaming. The die size they're wasting on them they could've dedicated to more cache. Despite having better single core performance, they're still tying with a 5800X3D. Using 3D stacking they made a CPU with a ton of extra cache, which is basically useless for almost any other application, but for gaming has huge benefits.
Nvidia just went full moron and is dedicating like 40% of their die size on GPUs to AI acceleration, which is fricking useless for gaming. Even DLSS isn't an excuse anymore with FSR2.0 almost matching it with absolutely no dedicated hardware required and way less development so far. It'd probably be matched by now if it had anywhere near the same amount of development. Measuring it at the same time after release FSR2.0 is already miles ahead of DLSS. Nvidia just wanted to cut their costs and reused the same shit they use for AI data centers on gaming cards. Meanwhile AMD implemented infinity cache, which again is useless for almost anything else but hugely beneficial to gaming. They also made resizable bar a standard feature, which is useful in some games. They also don't add fricking useless AI accelerators to their GPUs. 100% of the die area are dedicated to pipelines that are solely responsible to rasterizing.
Cache is expensive as frick and with Moores law in full effect, they can't sell you the same CPU every year without intentionally gimping something.
>We also need dedicated gaming hardware.
They're called consoles.
needs to die for gaming
>>We also need dedicated gaming hardware
So, a fricking console? holy shit, modern PCvegans are the most midwit fricktards on the planet
why do people want normies to use linux anyway? Let them continue using windows as a containment OS
Better and more support from companies.
It gets a fair bit anyway. They'd just shit it up like everything else.
Mac is basically ultimate normie tier. Insanely overpriced and even more braindead to use and restrictive than windows
Because the whole ideological "Linux on the desktop" thing from the 90s still lives on. As it turns out, most people are perfectly paying for and using proprietary bloatware. They don't care about computing freedom.
a containment OS doesn't really work since all the devs will still only care about what's the most popular
>We need a gaming os for pc games
have a nice day
Dumb ESL.
>mfw zoomers are nostalgic for Windows 10 already
Games just have more soul when you play them on Linux. Prove me wrong, you can't, etc.
cope.exe
wine cope.exe
yeah its a great feeling when you realize you never have to touch windows again
Honestly I'm surprised that by now there is no "standard" gaming dedicated Linux distro. One that comes with drivers for graphics cards, APIs and a generic library interface that can be built on top.
The only thing that exists that I can think of is RetroPie, but that's for retro shit mostly.
Nobara Project and Garuda are that
