i think nintendo wants switch to least 6 years. the supposedly nvidia chip is about as powerful as 2050, that could run all ps4 games 60fps 1080p.
and no i dont own a single console since ps3

Yeah, and I don’t care. I still only buy games for the Switch.

why buy switch games? splatoon has a reasonably functional multiplayer component so i get that one. why literally any other switch game, which is either better on other platforms, lacks meaningful multiplayer, or lacks functional online multiplayer? just pirate.

        Anonymous

I prefer the Switch because it’s a hybrid system, runs quieter than my PS4, has a better battery in the pro controller than than the DS4, the physical games aren’t printed with shitloads of legal text and put in the flimsiest plastic possible, and it has uncensored multiplats. I don’t care about piracy, and I don’t have a gaming PC.

          Anonymous

growing out of games huh? i don't see any other reason why you'd be halfway through the new console gen and not have a new console nor a PC. the next switch will choke out a few more years of multiplats for you hopefully.
as for not caring about piracy, i assume you've never experienced it. you could play a lot more games with it, but you sound like you only play a few games a year, so i understand not caring.

            Anonymous

I play games all the time. I got like 20 new physical Switch games last year. I’m just waiting for the Switch 2 because the PS5 is unappealing with its censorship and lack of exclusives. And the Xbox has slim pickings as someone who exclusively plays Japanese titles. But if my PS4 broke I would consider getting a PS5 to replace it since it’s basically the same console but stronger.

              Anonymous

sorry for baiting you i respect your position. since a lot of japanese games target switch now you don't miss out that much without a PS5, but there are a few japanese multiplats better on it. i mostly got a PS5 because i liked collecting PS4 games and wanted to play them on better hardware.

        >which is either better on other platforms
At best, it's just a difference of framerate which is frankly overblown (by very loud people) outside of specific genres such as rhythm titles where it actually requires precise inputs. 60fps is always preferred but absolutely not necessary in other cases.

Switch ports of Japanese games and indies are virtually the same they can be found elsewhere but it's the convenience of the system, form factor and its very large library that makes the console appealing. Give me the Switch 2 and some few titles that skipped the original Switch, and I would have even less reasons to bother with a gaming PC for a long time ahead.

          >At best, it's just a difference of framerate
          you remember resolution exists buddy?

            Anonymous

yeah but I can only think of some games in my Switch library having this problem of the adaptive resolution getting low in certain situations (which I hope the successor fixes by enabling a native resolution option, much like giving the ability to boost performance in BC titles), whereas framerate is what people tend to be the most vocal about. My memories may be playing tricks, but I don't remember this much shitposting back in the Playstation Vita days although I guess that console was too niche for that.

And I argue to say being a PC user back from my childhood made me tolerant to such things, unlike the recurrent argument claiming the contrary.

Because it's portable. A 2D indie is going to look the same on Switch, on PS5 or on a $3000 PC. AAAs don't sell that well on Switch, most of them are terrible ports, but depending on the genre I can see the appeal.
The Witcher 3 for example looks awful and runs like shit, but playing a huge, story-heavy RPG like that on a handheld is comfy.

          Anonymous

I've gotten The Witcher 3 (Complete Edition) because I thought it would be a nice addition to the rest of the Switch library (which is mainly JP and indies)
True, the visuals are downgraded for the port but I think it was still a decent experience overall. People who value graphics will obviously look elsewhere and I wouldn't recommend it as a reason to buy the console or something.

Dynamic just means dynamic. some shit devs see drops to more like 350.

And it still doesn't actually affect how the game plays because the point is to save FPS who actually matters so who gives a frick? Not proper who like games.

You get a switch to run games that aren't available on pc at a fraction the price that shit is charging for.

majority of people who bought Switch have low standards because they're either nostalgia brand tards or women and children who just think its cool to play vidya because people on the internet said so, so its not a surprise really, also excluding the ports, Nintendo often makes simple games that barely require more power which is why they are the only ones who can get away with copy pasting the same games for over 2 decades now with the exception of Xenoblade and other rare cases but those weren't technically made by them.

Vita came out in 2012, home consoles could barely do 720p back then. Sub-1080p resolutions were fairly common on PC as well.

Good. No reason to go higher on a handheld, shit looks sharp.
This is why the deck is only 800p. No reason to strain resources on things that barely impact the end result.

      T. 4k 144hz monitor gay

720p doesn't look that great to be honest, even on a 7" screen. So there is definitely a reason to go higher, it's just that the hardware isn't there yet.
As for the Steam Deck specifically, since with SteamOS you can apply FSR1 to any game you want, a 1080p screen would've been a lot better (If we ignore costs, that is). Older games would run fine at 1080p and look extremely sharp, while newer games would be rendered at 720p or lower (same as now) and look about the same if not slightly better thanks to FSR.
