Alola, I apologize. I didn't like you much at first. You're far, so far from perfect. But you're alright. You gave half a shit. You tried different things, for better or worse. Rainbow Rocket and the Battle Tree were fun ways to incorporate past games, even if it's no PWT. You didn't cut any game mechanics, didn't force EXP Share, and brought regional forms. Hau and Gladion aren't nearly as bad as Hop and Bede. The release of USUM was a blatant fricking scam, and it's obvious you had a lot of cut corners. But you're alright.
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
Ape Out Shirt $21.68 |
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
Frick the cutscenes though.
This is really my only complaint with the game. Usum specifically would probably would be the most kino pokemon game if you could freely skip the cutscenes
Is there any mod with a skip cutscene button?? SV should also have one, because oh god...
Not that I know of
SV does have a skip cutscene option though, thank goodness
Yeah, like SWSH had. But it just doesn't skip dialogues, just the videos that are like 2 or 3 lol
Doesn't fix a thing
>But it just doesn't skip dialogues
Frick me. I was under the impression that it did. Damn.
USUM ruins the story from SM
SM is the best vanilla game this franchise has ever done.
>endless corridors, dialogue spam, cutscenes at every step, roadblocks everywhere
vs
>after the tutorial, do whatever you want without anything holding you back, like gen 1
Frick off. Gen 7 was dogshit. Genuinely worse than Gen 6.
>do whatever you want without anything holding you back, like gen 1
We must have played different games because Kalos isn't that.
??? I'm obviously talking about SV you moron.
The tutorial is about the same length.
Of course the game has a cutscene for events, what game doesn't? The thing about Gen 7 is it has cutscenes EVERYWHERE for EVERYTHING. moron.
You mentioned Gen 6 in the same sentence, so sorry for the confusion. You're someone who thinks he's smarter than he really is by calling everyone else a moron, huh?
>The tutorial is about the same length.
Is definitely not. It lasted at least 3h for me until I was able to left the first city.
And yeah, a good game has cutscenes and dialogues but if you're going to waste my time with shitty dialogue at least tell me a good plot with actual characters.
SV's plot is pure filler full of predictable silly things and dull characters.
Gen 7 >>> Gen 9 > Gen 6 >>> Gen 8
Open world = good is a meme. There are bad open world games just like how there are bad games in every genre. See: No Man's Sky, Anthem, Mafia III, One Piece World Seekers, Metal Gear Survive...
W
Like if SV let you do whatever you want. The tutorial is way bigger than SM's or USUM's and when they let you "free" everytime you get to a new event:
C U T S C E N E S
>tiny areas
>cutscenes for days
>linear af
Alola has
>Bigger and complex areas than games like XY or SWSH
>Quite a few more branches to explore and lots of sidequest content to do
>Much better plot and characters(especially SM) than every other 3D game
>Optional EXP share and an actual challenge thanks to Totem Pokémon and good IVs and EVs on trainers.
>SOVL
Paldea does all of those better, and is balanced around the EXP share.
KEK
That was actually a cringy comment when everyone is complaining about how easy the game is and how levels don't change when you're underleveled by just playing a regular walkthrough.
I lost to Iono and the Normal Gym on my first tries.
go back to school incel, you need to grow up to be here
Bruh
I haven't lost to a gym leader in a vanilla game since like gen 4 and I'm a complete fricking shitter
>No level scaling
>No optional rep exp
>No set battles
Balanced??
Team Rainbow Rocket and all the puzzles in there were kino. The game was also kinda challenging for a Pokémon day these days (which I miss a lot, at least Volo did something interesting in PLA). Also the characters were the best, even if SM's plot is better.
>can get a lv12 salamence or whatever
this game did cool little shit like that even if the game itself was heavily flawed, a shame dexcut happened and is the policy moving forward
>a shame dexcut happened
Couldn't you transfer every current Pokemon into SM/USUM fine, though? They just wouldn't all have dex entries, which is fine considering the sheer amount at that point. It's only at SWSH they removed Pokemon entirely.
yes, dexcut happened the gen after so its unlikely we will ever have such variety in the wild like this again
Alola is a guided tour through a bunch of Hawaii-themed hallways
I didn't enjoy it then and I still don't like it.
You should have just played as Lillie. It's her story anyways.
Everything up until gen 8 was good at worst and you homosexuals didn’t appreciate what you had then.
My experience with Sun was far from good.
I have 300 hours game time on both XY and ORAS, but SM is so unpractical that I benched it after pushing to 100 hours.
You can't stay logged in as you play. You need to (1) warp to festival plaza, (2) log in which takes 3 miutes, and (3) repeat each time you want to use online features.
It's fricking awful.
Even if festival plaza was worse than PSS it was way better than shitty Y-Comm.
Waiting hours to just trade a mon. Using shitty codes. Not able to connect properly with your actual friends. Much less options than before...
Nothing beats Gen 6 for multiplayer UI.
I'm the (You) and that's actually true lol
Really? Because I do 90% of my breeding and competitive play on USUM battle spot, where megas and z moves are still present. I haven’t touched showdown much since dynamaxing was added, and now there’s tarastilizing. It’s going to either be maddening or fun (or both) when I finally start playing on showdown again
>breeding on USUM
If it's like in base Sun, it really hurts the finger muscles to do thousands of pad circles.
XY and ORAS both had idle atching spots.
>atching
My bad, meant hatching.
This, the undisputed the truth. You will never, EVER have a complete pokemon game ever again.
Today gen7 is seen as nu gen, but in a couple gens it will be seen as the last of the old generation because the cut point will not be 3D, but the dexcut.
And will be praised like god sent.
>You didn't cut any game mechanics
SuMo removed PSS
Everything you could do in PSS was available on the Festival Plaza, even if Festival Plaza was worse... All the options were there. Except for the voice chat maybe.
The festival plaza is so much worse that you actually have to wonder if removing a feature would be worse
Alola was boring and everything route looked the same
>Hau and Gladion aren't nearly as bad as Hop and Bede.
Nah, frick off. Hau is 10x worse than Hop. I'll give you Gladion but he was only slightly better than Bede.
No, you frick off. Hop and Bede are fricking awful, Hau and Gladion were immensely better.
I like Bede and Gladion. I want to stab Hop and Hau to death with kitchen knives.
Not if I stab you to death with kitchen knives first, homosexual
Hau just getting hate he doesn't deserves
Only on /vp/ you can find a debate that's completely devoid of arguments
At least Alola, Kalos or EVEN Galar has buildings where you can get in
At least Paldea isn't a small streamlined region.
It is. Is a circle anon filled with blank space.
I quite enjoyed USUM on my first playthrough but the cutscenes kill any replayability unless you have the patience of a fricking saint
I just didn't like the vast majority of the dex. I'm also terribly autistic and only use pokemon from whatever region I'm playing.
>I'm also terribly autistic and only use pokemon from whatever region I'm playing.
Are you me???
The thread's made me want to revisit US, so I think I'm going to just use a team from a different region that fits the island aesthetic.
>Hawaii based region
>Bellossom not included
>>I'm also terribly autistic and only use pokemon from whatever region I'm playing.
Bros, same.
However, I loved the Alola dex. Honestly my favorite since Gen 1.
I really loved gen 7 but it was weird having a 3DS game that doesnt fricking use 3D at all
USUM had my favorite post game experience, simply because I love battling online and it just had the biggest selection of Pokémon to this day with all mechanics available up to that point.
I love Alola.
XY is the prequel trilogy of the Pokemon games (undervalued, overly criticized, now we wish it would return), ORAS are very good remakes, and SM/USUM are filled with heart and soul
3DS era of Pokemon was great
This has to be bait. It HAS to be.
What the frick is the state of this board? Is there ANYWHERE left on the internet where only normal Pokémon fans (i.e. Gens 1 - 4 (the Golden Era) enjoyers) can go?
This board has been taken over by genuine shills, zoomers and coomers.
I miss having a Nintendo switch. Mine broke. I can almost feel suicidal depression without pokemon shield, shining pearl and legends arceus. I'll miss out on violet at this shitty rate.
Alola gave me my autistic wife so it's not all bad
Is there a correct way to play Gen 7?
From what I've heard USUM fixes some issues that were present in SM and there are more pokemon overall, but the story is much worse in USUM compared to vanilla SM. Thoughts?
Honestly I loved Alola. The region and characters all feel so alive to me for some reason, and I feel like a good majority of the pokemon designs were really great even if there are a few bad eggs.
I even loved the story in SM , but I played through SM and USUM all each one time and the story cutscenes honestly did destroy my motivation to continue a frick ton of times in the latter 3 playthroughs. Doesn't help that USUM really ruined the story and made the slog not even worth it unlike SM.
I think if you like Lillie and don't think you'll hate the egregious amount of story cutscenes, SM is better, but if you just want to play a pokemon game like the old ones and you think you're gonna get angry at the cutscenes anyway, the gameplay of USUM is better so you should just play that.
The story wasn't good to begin with, usum cuts down on the hour long intro, pumps up the enemy levels and has a lot of extra content, definitely the better game
if youre playing pokeymans for the story youre doing it wrong
go play a better JRPG
ultra has better fights overall imo, and some nice QoL stuff
otherwise basically the same game
I really think franchises like Xenoblade are not that far from Pokémon in terms of storytelling
Pokémon is just so underrated, but they've been recently doing a good job.
The game is terrible but as a coomer and dickyseur it will always hold a special place in my heart
I already taking back everything i said over gen 6 and 7
Frick me. I didn't even bother with gen 8, only PLA. Not going to bother with gen 9
we're already at this stage aren't we
Gen 7 has been getting praise since it released. It's just more visible now.
I always *liked* gen 7. Definitely not love, but liked it. It was a huge waste of potential though, and everyone already mentioned the cutscenes, and linearity already.
Gen 7 was always better than Gen 6. It was just still disappointing in many aspects.
the thing i can say nice about 6 is its immense catch variety
if only it didnt drag ass on the intro/some story points, and the battles werent piss ez
other than that its a decent game to nuzlocke imo. youll never end up with the same team on repeat playthroughs
I always had pretty negative opinions of Alola due to it feeling like an amusement park ride more than a proper adventure, I thought babysitting that bawd Lillie was insufferable. And Hau is fricking awful in the first games.
But Alola is otherwise such a comfy region. Amazing Pokemon, a great aesthetic and the best music. USUM fricked up the story but otherwise had some of the best content in the series. And it had all the fricking Pokemon. It was kino after all, in the end.
>Pokemon games keep getting worse so we look at past ones more fondly.
Was whatever Rainbow Rocket is in Ultra Sun/Moon, because I don't remember it at all
Yes
they mustve been REAL FRICKING excited about their animation skills
put in a fricking skip scene button
how hard is that?
anyone mashing start through a cutscene either already seen it, or doesnt care
let me play homosexuals
other than that games fine
battles are alright, colorful if cramped world
actual coherent art design, finally not just 8 gyms->E4, decent dex
>actual coherent art design,
It is the most focus group tested mobile friendly art style ever designed. It's the kind of art you'll see on warning labels and training books. It is the epitome of "soulless".
ok
at least they designed it to look good with itself
doesnt really matter if you or i like it, the point is that it works at what it needs to do: make a world
swsh looks like it was made by a bunch of different teams that were each locked in different corners of masudas basement and not allowed to talk to each other, and then they shipped it out once everyone was half done prolly not too far from the truth tbh
You sound like the most sociopathic corporate suit ever. Are you here to shill the game?
lol yea bro im trying to shill you into buying a game from fricking 2015
absolute fricking homosexual lmao
Why Alola had to nerf fishing though? Gen 6 already had mastered it with chain fishing
Why SV deleted fishing though?
This is my favorite game, it still looks pretty and the music is a fricking banger, every single track
Having to babysit shittie was hell tho
i never understood why people complained about cutscenes in a jrpg
do people who play pokemon exclusively just play that and no other jrpg?
>do people who play pokemon exclusively just play that and no other jrpg?
First of all, yes. Second of all, Pokémon’s real draw is the adventures and the battling, the plots are atrocious in comparison to other Jrpgs. Poorly written unskippable cutscenes slow down the pace of a game is not very streamlined or have sufficient quality of life features.
>Pokémon’s real draw is the adventures and the battling
that applies to all jrpgs. sounds like you're complaining to complain, especially since pokemon cutscenes aren't even nearly as long as a normal jrpg. they're pretty straight and to the point.
tldr ironic jrpg fans should quit b***hing about jrpg things
All of this, we had it all and we didn't know
Scarlet/Violet is looking like to be Sun/Moon 2 but with an actual endgame area to explore.
What endgame area lmao? SM has an actual endgame area to explore. SV hasn't lol
Frick you, you homosexuals made fun of us and now you want to be on the BEST side. Frick off and enjoy your shit gens. We AlolaCHADS will keep on winning as the franchise goes to shit.
>Best region
>Best pokegirls
>Best mons
>Best gimmick
>Best team
>Best MILFs
>Best atmosphere
>Memorable characters and E4
>But much cutscenes
Sorry I'm not a zoomer with ADHD. Don't care.
McBased & Associates
>Villain team is peak SOVL
>Guzma and the minions are a lovable bunch
>Actual Villain team is a real treat
>Evil boss is not a fricking autist and is evil for the sake of being evil, she's just someone that lost it because of a real tragedy
>Sidequest that have themes that go from the passing of time to the death of a loved one
>Towns are ALIVE, and even if you finish the main game there's a lot more to explore
>Last time you could CATCH THEM ALL
We got it good Alolabros. Kalosgays, Galarbabies, and Paldeatards don't @ at me.
Gen 6 is still trash, the only good thing from it was the PSS system, XY and ORAS were fricking trash games.
>>Evil boss is not a fricking autist and is evil for the sake of being evil, she's just someone that lost it because of a real tragedy
I thought her motives and backstory were retconned in USUM? Unless I'm misremembering
The same backstory since we get this scene on USUM , she's not the main villain since Necrozma takes that spot.

ALOLA PEAK SOUL
With actual buildings, plot, sidequests and challenging.
>The release of USUM was a blatant fricking scam
You had me until there.
Oh so no gen 7 is suddenly peak soul? No, fricking have a nice day b***h hypocrite. Can't fricking stand homosexuals like you, every fricking gen it's suddenly "Actually that gen we spent months on mocking and shunning anyone who liked it was truly underrated and well made." Fricking hang from a tree.
This. I am glad there's someone sane on this board other than me.
Why are we even surprised anymore at this point, though? We know it happens every Gen cycle. Come Gen 10 we will see these kinds of posts for fricking SwSh. I'd say frick this board, but no, it's the whole fricking Pokémon fandom. You do this shit every fricking time because this franchise has conditioned you into being the perfect little shit-eating consumers.
Gen 6 was never good and nobody will tell you otherwise, so this is not how this works anon.
Not true. ORAS is very well liked, and most people acknowledge XY as typical first versions that were unfairly treated due to lack of a third version.
Except for the fact were there were threads that were suddenly praising gen 6 after gen 8. There seems to be this very annoying cycle of hating and sudden praise when the new game is the cool thing to hate.
Are you mentally challenged? Where in my post did I say Gen 6 was good. Holy shit this board is unsalvageable. have a nice day morons.
They can't admit what absolute morons they are, because they know it's true. So they gotta do the "Nuh uh, gen 6 still bad." But past threads when gen 8 and pla was announced prove otherwise
>We know it happens every Gen cycle.
>We still shit on gen 6 tho
Are you mentally challenged?
XY and ORAS are still trash. Original R/S, Pr/Pl is unfinished and unpolished turds that would have the same destiny as XY, but Emerald and Platinum saved their legacy. B/W/2 and SM/USUM detractors have to fricking APOLOGIZE.
look at this chicken
best girl
She even had personality despite being a pokemon protagonist
>You're being called to the office, did you do something wrong?
>Maybe
I loved Alola when it first came out, but everyone here hated it. It really has SOVL
Please don't tell me we will have people loving Sword and Shield when gen 10 drops
people still hate xy
damn you're right
although I heard some people loved ORAS. But they might mostly be normies that loved all the goodies those games threw at you
I already love 8 but am waiting to be vocal about it
I would have enjoyed playing gen 8 but I couldn't get the games not including all the pokemon.
it wasnt bad at all, I really liked all the new pokemons and the wild area was neato.
I think the game felt kind of hollow but I still liked the region and even though it was piss easy i've learned how to make the game just a little challenging by giving myself restrictions and rotating pokemon
>Pro Alola thread
>Devolves to a Gen 6 hate thread
Hmm... who could've seen this happen?
>b-but muh cutscenes
>story and characterization is le bad!!
Honestly Gamefreak should have just kept this style. It's clear that they can't work with modern consoles so they should have just continued with the 3D style of gen 7 and LGPE.
