do the ones from the manual
they're also a better introduction to unity than anything i've seen for that engine

      unity ?
I thought it uses it own script that's very similar to python

gdscript is very much a tweaked python yes. But the documentation is quite good. Its a lot to read but its a surprisingly easy read, written in a way thats digestible

Do I need some coding experience to do this book?

No not really. The useful part is it outlines good project architecture and node use.

You're going to have a hard time with game dev in general if you have zero code experience. You may want to take a Python course first so you're not trying to learn two things at once

There are several platformer tutorials that are solid and will give you a great grasp of the engine.
One made by some Indian idiot and two zoomers made some. Very solid for learning the syntax and engine specific shit. Then you should be good to go.

It's not even about optimization, he didn't recommend you a book on assembly programming or computer architecture or something, lmao. He recommended you an introductory book focused on fricking lisp to teach you the basics.

You don't have to pander to code/engine elitists. When you actually release your game, they will only ever compose an insignificant fraction of critics. That's why they b***h the way they do after all. I don't care how you make your game, in fact I encourage you to find the most straightforward solution to every problem you encounter in game development rather than onsess over optimization, because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that your game doesn't fricking suck.

If you already have a basic knowledge of how programming works, you are already ahead of the curve. Read the official docs and follow those simple tutorials. Once you finish with those, look up the GDScript reference page. This page is important, and you will always come back to it, so keep that in mind. For projects, start small; don't go big. Godot has pre-built scripts for you to look at so you can get the gist of it. If you still having trouble, check out Udemy. The majority of times they have sales, and you can get good courses for 5 bucks.

I’m making a card game - the gameplay logic is all done server side and is in a pretty advanced state, but still need to make a proper client. Probably going to go with godot for that - any tutorials that’ll cover UI and networking but not get sidetracked with physics, level building, NPCs, 3D models and animation, etc?

This is just a vampire Shitsuckers clone. Not notable.

These ones seem like actual games. I've seen Dome Keepers game, and it looked good. Road to Vostok seems to prove that you can make a good looking 3D game in Godot.

I asked in a previous thread and got no response, but here's the short version
Is Godot a good pick for a game similar to Snatcher?
What I have in mind is a First Person, point and click detective game with turn based combat, similar to SMT.

There are both point and click adventure games and turn based JRPG-esque games made on it, look at my link (not quite literally a PnC but that's just semantics) and Cassette Beasts.

Their new-new changes seem reasonable, but the fact that they pulled that kind of shit in the first place and made the person in the company who had practically nothing to do with it make the apology has ruined my trust in them.

Unless every single higher up earns their public execution they aren't worth using for anything but even MORE dogshit free asset flip meme games, John Rigatoni was NOT the only person who approved all of this

Someone should dissect a unity dev's brain to study the inner workings of Stockholm Syndrome.

It did get resolved but the main reason why they tried that install shit in the first place wasn't. They literally do not make any money, they've been operating at a loss for God knows how long now. Just a few days ago they said they were about cut more jobs and features which is like the second time they've done this year.

Unity is the only capable 2D AND 3D game engine for indie devs. Don't fall for the Godot meme. It's just a buzz on twitter. I repeat:
        DO NOT FALL FOR GODOT

Godot needs work. A lot of work. On the beginning of your game dev journey you will feel like Godot is good but wait until you reach late development.

If your only criteria for whether or not an engine is worth it based on how notable games it has then you should be using Unreal or Unity.
