I launch Steam through Big Picture when playing singleplayer games just so I get the achievement jingle when I get a cheevo

it does that jingle on normal mode nowadays

Only when I REALLY like a game and going for 100% doesn't make me hate it. If the 100% has shit like "collect all 256 blue nails hidden in the level geometry" then it can frick off

First thing I do on any console or on Steam is to turn off all achievement notifications.
I don't need a carrot on a stick to enjoy something... I actually enjoy the thing.

    Unfortunately.

I have 98.5% completion rate. I can't remember what it is on Xbox but 1000 without DLC in most cases.

I rarely do but Hitman WoA is my current white whale that im focusing on, there is a lot to do and getting a hardcore run done in Freelancer is wiener and ball torture (it took me 70 hours just to complete a normal run)

some games have a good set of achievements that mostly have to do with just doing shit in game...collecting a bunch of stuff, etc.

but when they put the "hit 8 enemies with 1 grenade" crap like they do in every FPS game they can frick off

same with "never get hit ever" or "beat this game in speedrun time"...these are better as self-imposed challenges as the average player doesn't give a frick about ironmans or speedruns.

but all in all, achievements are better left as simple statistics in a menu in the game. The concept of them being outside the game is stupid, and makes them feel generic and pointless. Moreover, due to this "outside of game" location, they rarely reward the player with anything in-game. It's a very lazy way of "rewarding" the player with nothing.

No but I am a virtual hoarder and collector, which I think is a similar feel.
I like to have one of every item type, including weapons and armor. So I go out of my way to even collect armor sets and weapons I don't use. I keep at least one of the basic b***h healing items from the start of the game. Shit like that.

I can't stand the idea of playing the same game after knowing the ending.
