not with those frickin encounter rates, seems like every other hoennmon is found in only a single location, at <5% >ralts >chimecho 2% >plusle >seedot/nuzleaf >volbeat >skitty >nosepass in 7 fricking rocks to smash
better than the shit we put up with in Sun and Moon >corsola only has a 1% encounter rate from fishing >then has another 20% chance to call mareanie when it's at low health with the SOS mechanic >this is the only way to find mareanie in the game
I've been playing them in order through emulation and I really enjoyed gen 4 and 5, gen 6 is next and I don't think I'm looking forward to it much, it looks like that's where things shit the bed.
gen 6 had some nice moments, the region is pretty comfy, but it's just so fricking babby tier easy it's ridiculous, only game i never felt like re-visiting again.
BW2 was just better gameplaywise and contentwise. And I say this as someone who started on Ruby and then had his mind blow by how much better Emerald was.
There's always a debate about Platinum or Black and White 2 being the best games out there with Emerald and HG/SS just below them, Black and White 1 are considered good but not the best and Diamond and Pearl are shit. Of course this is just a concensus, there's nothing wrong if your favorites are X and Y or whatever.
platinum, hgss, and emerald are my top three, followed by frlg, then bw2 and bw.
other games aren't important and gen vi is when the games begin definitely declining each gen, whereas from iii to v it felt more like each gen had some improvements and some debatable points
emerald with a slightly expanded map, gen iv mons, and a general overhaul of movesets/abilities/etc and trainer teams would be my favorite game probably
tldr: Don't play past B2W2.
No one can really agree on out of gen 4 and gen 5 which is better, but I'm pretty sure you'll find that many people will agree that gen 6 was the first significant drop in quality.
Once online support for the 3DS dies, the only 3DS game you could argue is worth checking out is ORAS, but even then, Emerald has never not been the best version of Hoenn, once online functionality is removed you could make the argument that even the original Ruby and Sapphire are better than ORAS.
HGSS has SOVL, Gen V is the most competent generation since the GB/GBC era.
The Hoenn and Sinnoh games are bad and no amount of zoomer/zillenial nostalgia will convince me otherwise.
Gen 3 has something about it that I just can't get into. I'm one of those people that can only get to about Gym 6 before I stop. Even as a kid the games just felt weird to me.
yeah just ignore the slower engine, worse map design, worse battle frontier, and worse pokemon distribution and it's a better game because I grew up with it.
tldr: Don't play past B2W2.

>you'll find that many people will agree that gen 6 was the first significant drop in quality
and exactly zero of them can actually prove it
>prove it
let me just get out the whiteboard so I can begin with the math
oh shoot, all of my markers are out of ink! I guess this'll have to wait for another day.
They have proven it, you just deliberately ignored it. Fine, I'll take the fricking bait even though I probably shouldn't.
Gen 6 being not as good as Gens 3-5 but still fine is not a controversial opinion, XY and ORAS are good games, however they are not as good as the gold standard such as Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, BW or B2W2.
Gen 6 suffers from significant balancing issues, moreso than the Johto games ever could and that is unfortunately intentional game design. You are expected to outlevel the hardest postgame fights by the time you make it to the League for the first time, The Exp. Share is undeniably broken as while your team skyrockets with Exp., none of the battles are scaled to match your higher levels.
The battle facilities are replaced with the Battle Chateau which isn't an adequate replacement for obvious reasons.
You can't transfer Pokemon from older gens without paying for a Pokemon Bank subscription.
The story in ORAS is actively worse than it is in Ruby and Sapphire.
The structure of routes, towns and dungeons in XY is a significant downgrade in comparison to even gen 1.
I could go on and on, you get the picture, gen 4 and gen 5 do not have these problems, nor do they have other problems that bring them down to gen 6's level of quality.
The only thing I will ever defend gen 6 for is the sheer amount of available Pokemon in XY which allows for incredibly varied teams on repeated playthroughs, the online functionality that will die in the coming years, the Regigigas encounter in ORAS and the character customization that was intentionally excluded from ORAS.
>worse map design, worse pokemon distribution
That's DP, not Platinum. >worse battle frontier >actual new routes that you can explore in the postgame, all battle frontier facilities are better than "hurr durr, you can't choose what move your pokemon will use" in emerald
Lol. Lmao
>replay again >get shroomish >this garbage power output and stats
Was he always this bad? The only reason why he's not boxed is may 3's marshtomp is a b***h and can't be brute forced at that point.
Shroomish was at his worst in gen 3. Stuck with Mach Punch at best for attacking for a very long time. In gen 4 it got stuff like Force Palm and Seed Bomb, way better attacks.
pretty sure it's always been impossible to complete the pokedex in majority of the games due to that ONE legendary you can't access without an item distributed in Japan only or some bullshit or at all with shit like Azure Flute never being distributed at all
You can reasonably do it with glitches.
Gen 1 is Gen 1, the Celebi event is hard coded into the Virtual Console versions of Gen 2, the Pomeg glitch lets you get any Pokemon in Gen 3 and you can go spelunking in DP's Void for all the Mythicals.
depends on what you are willing to do
in g1, you can do the mew glitch
in g2, you have glitches and VC Crystal for Celebi
in g3, you have glitches for Deoxys, Japanese Emerald for Mew, Channel for Jirachi, Orre games for Ho-Oh and Lugia. apparently the Japanese bonus disc for Colosseum also gives you Celebi.
in g4 darkai and shaymin can be glitched to. manaphy is available via the ranger games.
arceus's fricked though, since the in-game event was never released so it won't go through Bank.
g5 is where the shitstorm starts and mythicals start becoming "frick you, be around for this event"
>playing through white on emulator >expect the game to be a breeze >NPC trainers crits through the roof
That said, any way I can evolve my mons that need trading or do I just have to edit them in?
Also type accessibility is fricking shit, it's just DP all over again with the lack of certain types for the start of the game.
I learned of it a bit after I started, but I could only find the black version.
I was already in too deep anyway and I couldn't be fricked with the constant tutorial interruptions either.
This game is amazing if you do a hardcore nuzlock
It can become insanely hard and you have to really think about how to play.
Whether to dump a pokemon to lose a run.
If you can one shot a mon or risk getting a crit
etc.
You can say the same about every fricking game.
There is nothing special about arbitrarily choosing a set of rules. Try beating the game with just one pokemon, without using any items.
nuzlock is harder than one pokmeon or any items, there are level caps, species clauses, there are even groups like wonderlock, soullock, tons of these but they follow some basic rules
This game was comfy as frick man. I liked Mr.Briney's boat trips.
the ash route theme is so fricking kino
so was mt. pyre
one of my favorites
not with those frickin encounter rates, seems like every other hoennmon is found in only a single location, at <5%
>ralts
>chimecho 2%
>plusle
>seedot/nuzleaf
>volbeat
>skitty
>nosepass in 7 fricking rocks to smash
to be fair all of those are shit except nuzleaf so nobody really cares. Febass is still bullshit though
Ralts was good, just worse than Abra. I don't know why they made Feebas so absurdly hard to find though
You list all those but not Feebas? WhT a homosexual
better than the shit we put up with in Sun and Moon
>corsola only has a 1% encounter rate from fishing
>then has another 20% chance to call mareanie when it's at low health with the SOS mechanic
>this is the only way to find mareanie in the game
That's not Platinum
>Hoennshit
>good
have a nice day
sorry wrong pic
What's the best one after 3rd gen? Or is it just a consistent decline?
I've been playing them in order through emulation and I really enjoyed gen 4 and 5, gen 6 is next and I don't think I'm looking forward to it much, it looks like that's where things shit the bed.
gen 6 had some nice moments, the region is pretty comfy, but it's just so fricking babby tier easy it's ridiculous, only game i never felt like re-visiting again.
Kalos is a top 3 region but yeah the battles are too easy
Also you must have been under the age of 10 when emerald came out to reply.
Or over? I mean no zoomer replies.
Jesus anon those are high standards. I would have been 12.
both 4 and 5 are great, and an improvement over gen 3 imo, i prefer 4 personally
gen 6 is when it declined irredeemably.
gen 3 was the last one to actually feel like an adventure
BW2 was just better gameplaywise and contentwise. And I say this as someone who started on Ruby and then had his mind blow by how much better Emerald was.
platinum, hgss, or BW2 but I don't think any of them are all that good if you play them as an adult
Heart gold Soul Silver, Black and White 2 and platinum are on par if not better
There's always a debate about Platinum or Black and White 2 being the best games out there with Emerald and HG/SS just below them, Black and White 1 are considered good but not the best and Diamond and Pearl are shit. PLA followed by USUM
the DS games are overrated dogshit
platinum, hgss, and emerald are my top three, followed by frlg, then bw2 and bw.

After 3 the only one I quite liked was 6.
4 and 5 were shit.
I prefer Polished Crystal
Pokemon wilds is my fave
did they ever unfrick the learnsets? got sick of every mon i wanted to use having no moves.
>type split
homie no way
Gen 3 has something about it that I just can't get into. I'm one of those people that can only get to about Gym 6 before I stop. Even as a kid the games just felt weird to me.
It's a shame since Battle Frontier looks fun.
For me, its verdanturff
by god
i'm home
>i will never get to feel the same way i did as a kid playing pokemon gens iii and iv again
Lol no. Gen 3 still had moronic physical/special tied to types and shit graphics. It had a decent world to explore but got mogged by Sinnoh.
Platinum >>>> Emerald
yeah just ignore the slower engine, worse map design, worse battle frontier, and worse pokemon distribution and it's a better game because I grew up with it.

case in point
They have proven it, you just deliberately ignored it. Fine, I'll take the fricking bait even though I probably shouldn't.

You friggin killed him
BW2 was better and I grew up with Emerald.
What Gen did you grow up on?
>worse map design, worse pokemon distribution
That's DP, not Platinum.
>worse battle frontier
>actual new routes that you can explore in the postgame, all battle frontier facilities are better than "hurr durr, you can't choose what move your pokemon will use" in emerald
Lol. Lmao
There's no such thing as a good mainline Pokemon game. Some spin offs are good but mainline games are meant to cater to midwits.
Getting those Battle Tower ribbons was a fun grind.
ultra sun/moon were better the only valid complain is the unskipable cutscenes but every pokemon game have them so overall keeps winning
You have to be 18 to post here.
>the only valid complain is the unskipable cutscenes
they're hours longer than earlier Pokemon games. It's a fricking slog. That being said, if you can sit through them, it's a good game after
>ultra sun/moon were better
You're just a paed-coomer
>replay again
>get shroomish
>this garbage power output and stats
Was he always this bad? The only reason why he's not boxed is may 3's marshtomp is a b***h and can't be brute forced at that point.

Agreed. Anything after it is awful.
>ywn find a ruby cartridge to complement your sapphire one
>ywn complete the regional pokedex like in your childhood dreams
I have like 2 of each
frick im jealous
pretty sure it's always been impossible to complete the pokedex in majority of the games due to that ONE legendary you can't access without an item distributed in Japan only or some bullshit or at all with shit like Azure Flute never being distributed at all

Also type accessibility is fricking shit, it's just DP all over again with the lack of certain types for the start of the game.
Easiest would be to use a save editor. I'm sure there's actual link programs out there for DS emulators like there are for VBA but what's the point?
You did get a rom that lets you evolve trade evolutions without trading, right? If not, yeah, you're gonna have to edit them in.
I learned of it a bit after I started, but I could only find the black version.
I was already in too deep anyway and I couldn't be fricked with the constant tutorial interruptions either.
could always use the randomizer tool to patch trade evos and randomize nothing.
can you do that on an existing save or does it have to be on a fresh game?
I don't see why it wouldn't work, so long as the rom and save still share the same name.
This game is amazing if you do a hardcore nuzlock
It can become insanely hard and you have to really think about how to play.
Whether to dump a pokemon to lose a run.

You can say the same about every fricking game.
There is nothing special about arbitrarily choosing a set of rules. Try beating the game with just one pokemon, without using any items.
nuzlock rules are made specifically for pokemon and make it way more fun.
It's not arbitrary if everybody tries the same way
nuzlock is harder than one pokmeon or any items, there are level caps, species clauses, there are even groups like wonderlock, soullock, tons of these but they follow some basic rules
I wish it had a day/night cycle like literally every other generation besides 1
SMT is better.
>No luigia
>stopped playing the games at HGSS
>picked up gen 5 recently
>only just now learned about abilities having an overworld effect
Took me getting to the castelia city gym to learn how to check what my moves do in battle.
that's another level of stupid, not knowing about overworld effects of abilities is just like not knowing about pokerus
What is your favorite pokemon?
definitely not those fakemons you posted
Ruby and Sapphire are better because they have a better 8th gym leader and cooler champion.
>Most of the pokemon's stats are shit due to having the wrong type for their main stat.
Gen 4 couldn't come sooner to fix that travesty.
