There's basic advice for writing that any conflict that can be resolved by the two parties just talking to each other is crap and should be avoided. It speaks volumes that RPGs keep holding up "you can beat the final boss via speech checks!" as some gold standard for writing.

I before I get some obsidiot seething at me, Bethesda Fallout has the exact same dumbfrickery in it too. It's all garbage that undercuts the overall plot if your opponent never thought things through for ten seconds until this one chucklefrick showed him the light in a minute long conversation with no double checking or research involved.

      You need:
      >Proof that the villain's plan doesn't work. This doesn't come for free, you need to find it in a completely unrelated quest.
      >The stats to convince him to take a serious look at the proof instead of instantly dismissing your claims
      >To pick the correct, unmarked dialogue choices after the speech checks to make use of those stats

The fallout 3 one makes sense at least because AIs are actually stupid enough to trick like that

i like that. it shows that the master is so detached from humanity that he didnt even consider this.

Nah it’s moronic, if the super mutants can’t reproduce then all you need to do is keep a couple thousand humans alive for breeding and just expose the offspring to FEV

the goal of the master was that he wanted to wipe the slate clean, and be cleared of the evils of humanity with only purity to move forward. this includes the evils he made for the greater good, once all this is done he would no longer have to do evil for the sake of good. this cant happen with breeding pens cause A: his superior race is still reliant on previous evil, and B: his new world still relies on a cycle of evil, the breeding pens.

The DLC made it pretty clear that it doesn't matter if you're a synth, which is what people don't get. You're still a living being. If you knew that someone replaced the original person and you're a synth then you would just try your best to be yourself and carry on. Of course some synths can't handle that and get a memory wipe.

When you think about it for all the talk of how innovative Obsidian was compared to Bethesda all they did was create a fanfic donut steel OC characters, Andrew Ryan rip-off and an extremely underdeveloped faction of football gear wearing Romans lead by another donut steel OC that spouts wikipedia articles. They also tried to destroy BoS despite their iconic status in the franchise.

And while Synths are not the most original concept they are way more interesting than whatever it is that Obsidian tried. Fallout 4 genuinely is more innovative for the Fallout franchise than anything that Obsidian did. Not to mention that New Vegas would never even exist without the concept of 3D Fallout and assets from Fallout 3.

Synths are not interesting because they don't mean anything. They aren't even given a purpose, the Institute has no motive. New Vegas is focused on multiple different factions with believable motivations and issues squabbling over territory and resources. That is far more interesting.

Synths have a very clear purpose of being programmed for anything you want and manipulate the public by replacing important figures without anyone noticing. That's why there is so much paranoia.

That would be very neat, if generic, if it were a story from before the bombs fell. Or if the organization making those synths had any internal logic or even reason to exist. Bethesda went with the Institute, a bogeyman, precisely because it wouldn't require them to make factions with interesting relationships.

Frick off, the institute is a shit faction, the railroad is a shit foil to them. The only believable factions are the Minutemen and the BOS. And even then the brotherhood is a stretch that they would send all their forces to wipe out a threat they just learned about and have little info on.

i think there should be encounters you cant skill check your way out of tbh, it would make you realize that neglecting combat in favor of skills like intelligence or speech is still detrimental if you cant talk your way out of every situation

These don't exist and haven't for years. You don't even need to directly mention Bethesda for someone to launch into an unprompted armchair gamedev rant about how shit they think they are. New Vegas fans taking a game so similar to Fallout 3 that its own director has referred to it as an expansion pack before, and allowing video essays to gaslight them into making it an object of worship which they pretend is on the opposite end of a 10 point scale, are far more common and obnoxious today. I don't know how people are unable to see this when posts like this have absolutely littered this place in wake of the TV series. I've never been so hesitant to praise a game I think is great before because its fanbase are such histrionic, non-game playing zealots.

Good on you for proving my point though. For those that don’t know fabio is a schizophrenic Italian bethesdrone who has been having a schizo meltdown for five years. He started after 3 lost a strawpoll to NV. He is the one responsible for most of the vs, chad, and troony spam as well as all those fricking ESL chad edits. Pic related is him.

I only enjoyed Wasteland 3's take on this idea because the Machines never at any point try to say they're humans and instead seek to form their own communities and co-exist with humans.

The synths try to blend as a survival tactic because of the events of WL2

      Anonymous

That's basically what DiMA is doing. But co-existing with humans is asking for a basic right to exist.

    >A collective of scientists establishes an underground community and creates synthetic servants and infiltration units to handle menial labor and to keep tabs on the surface dwelling communities

They need to be sure that their above-ground assets are safe, and that the communities that exist on the surface are not planning to raid them. Hence, they replace people so they have protectors for said assets and plants in said communities.

Considering what they could do, they are being shockingly nice to the people of the wasteland.

What was the point of making a post-apocalyptic game about robot civil rights when human-mutant relations are a lot more interesting and relevant to the series?

You can see people complaining ITT that supermutants are in too many games

That's somewhat fair, since supermutants were created by a leaked bioweapon, not radiation. I'm mostly talking about ghouls.

Fallout 4's story had great promise, and in typical thesda fashion wasn't allowed to be fully explored due to limited dialogue and choice, likely a result of rushed content.
My main problem is you have no agency over the factions you join, you simply do what choice is presented to do with no ability to change their tactics or inject a new perspective outside of flavor text. If you disagree, you are simply ejected and have to crawl to back to whatever faction is left.
