>Bethesda: alright lets just copy the original game but worse and extremely stupid in every conceivable way
>Obsidian: comes back and shows them how it's done effortlessly does a great job again
>Bethesda: screw this lets just copy Blade Runner for some reason even though we already did that in the last game (somehow it's even worse)
Bethesdrones really are just the stupidest people on the planet huh
How hard is it to come up with a single decent plotline in 20 years
Bethesda seriously couldn't write their way out of a paper bag

>[Speech 100] The supermutants can't breed.
>oh wtf I'm gonna kms now bye
so this is what quality writing looks like
You actually needed to discover they can't breed to do this. Actually quality writing is
>[speech 100] please leave mr roman
There's basic advice for writing that any conflict that can be resolved by the two parties just talking to each other is crap and should be avoided. It speaks volumes that RPGs keep holding up "you can beat the final boss via speech checks!" as some gold standard for writing.
I before I get some obsidiot seething at me, Bethesda Fallout has the exact same dumbfrickery in it too. It's all garbage that undercuts the overall plot if your opponent never thought things through for ten seconds until this one chucklefrick showed him the light in a minute long conversation with no double checking or research involved.
You need:
>Proof that the villain's plan doesn't work. This doesn't come for free, you need to find it in a completely unrelated quest.
>The stats to convince him to take a serious look at the proof instead of instantly dismissing your claims
>To pick the correct, unmarked dialogue choices after the speech checks to make use of those stats
>Proof that the villain's plan doesn't work. This doesn't come for free, you need to find it in a completely unrelated quest.
Or just have 7+ intelligence, skipping it entirely
>The stats to convince him to take a serious look at the proof instead of instantly dismissing your claims
You don't need stats at all, just a lucky roll. On the other hand you can have good stats and get a bad roll too.
>Or just have 7+ intelligence, skipping it entirely
Woahhh character building in an RPG... LE MATTERS???
>FO2
>Frank, you're going against orders
>"Lmao I don't care, we're fighting"
>FO3
>Mr President, your rational is similar to that of a commie
>"Wtf you're right, time to blow up the base"
>FONV
>Legate, your army is stretched thin between two regions
>"Shit you're right. Time to leave."
>FO4
>Hello son
>"Say no more, the nuke detonates in 5"
Fallout never had good writing.
>>FONV
, your army is stretched thin between two regions
>>"Shit you're right. Time to leave."
Wrong.
The fallout 3 one makes sense at least because AIs are actually stupid enough to trick like that
Nah it’s moronic, if the super mutants can’t reproduce then all you need to do is keep a couple thousand humans alive for breeding and just expose the offspring to FEV
the goal of the master was that he wanted to wipe the slate clean, and be cleared of the evils of humanity with only purity to move forward. this includes the evils he made for the greater good, once all this is done he would no longer have to do evil for the sake of good. this cant happen with breeding pens cause A: his superior race is still reliant on previous evil, and B: his new world still relies on a cycle of evil, the breeding pens.
i like that. it shows that the master is so detached from humanity that he didnt even consider this.
you need more than just a speech check dumb Black person
>the supermutants can't breed
neither can you but you don't hear us b***hing about it
Speech is honestly broken.
It's so stupidly good that there's no reason not to max it asap.
>[Speech 100] The supermutants can't breed.
>oh wtf I'm gonna kms now bye
>yo mutant bro can you go into the radioactive chamber for me and hit the button? please?
>no, I want you to kys bye
Bethesda with the strongest writing
>refuses to rob you of your destiny
what a bro
Turns out the quality has no bearing on sales
>Andrew Ryan ripoff
Yawn
You realize Andrew Ryan and House are both inspired by real visionaries and moguls from the 40s and 50s a la Walt Disney right. It's actually a fairly original character type and more importantly fits the themes of these games perfectly.
Good morning sweaties, are you feeling cute and valid today?
Oh wow... Thank you Obsidian for this amazing contribution to the Fallout franchise. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life delivering the chipperino and seething at superior Bethesda games.
>can robots be human
wow what an original story. surely this topic hasnt been covered by countless books, movies, videogames, comic books, music
Yes because it's actually a good topic and relevant today
the answer is still no btw, robots cant be human, and its moronic the institute doesnt immediately have a killswitch to kill any synth that tries to escape
It's not a question to answer with simple yes or no. It's a complex topic that is interesting to think about.
it is. It's not.
the answer is no a robot that gains sentience and thinks its a human still isnt a human its just a robot that looks like a human which has gaslit itself into thinking its human
By that logic you're just a meat sack gaslighting itself that its human. Synths are identical to humans in every way that makes us think we are human.
they arent human they're robots
>Synths are identical to humans in every way
Can they procreate? They're made by humans
I think they could but the Institute doesn't want them to breed. They can have sex but not children. But if a synth was able to create another synth in a way that humans create them then it's still procreating. Just not in our way.
>Just not in our way.
So they aren't human, just human-like. Case Closed
If you think that sterile people aren't human, which is ridiculous
Losing something isn't the same as not having it in the first place and also you forget where you are.
People can be born infertile, do you think that they are not human?
But a person be default could have been fertile even if the universe decides they aren't, Synths can never be fertile. There is a difference between the two and that difference is what makes them not human
Who said that Synths can never be fertile? The game never says that they can't have children, but it's clear that it would complicate things for the Institute.
A human who can't breed and a synth who can't breed are the same.
There is a difference between naturally being able to do something even if nature prevents it and Never being able to do it. I'm not going to be talking in circles with you about this
I find this take much more interesting
Anon, the ability to breed is not what makes us human. Animals can breed, bacteria can breed. We don't consider them human. And we don't consider someone who can't breed not human. It's simple.
>original argument is that not being able to reproduce makes synths not human
>game never says that they could not reproduce, but even if they could the Institute will not allow it
>say there is also no difference between a human that cannot breed and a synth who cannot breed
>you said that being naturally able to reproduce is what makes us human
>say that animals and bacteria breed but they are not human because breeding is not what makes someone human
>this is moving goalposts
nta but you’re pretty dense if you can’t see the crux of his argument beyond whether or not one single individual can or can’t reproduce
Even if Synths couldn’t reproduce they could adapt and create other Synths. Otherwise they are just like humans. And it’s a really a question that is more about the mind then function of the body.
It's only a complex topic if you don't know any programming and/or have never worked in a factory.
i just think terminator salvation was good
lol youre acting like fo4 was as philosophical as blade runner. the truth is fo4 is just fo3 with reversed roles (father looking for his son) with a cheap androids sidestory
>be post apocalypse
>have railroad analogy for helping escaped slaves helping escaped synths
>it isnt just synths
>literal humans have decided 'yeah i know the world i live in is very fricked up, but i gotta look out for those synths!'
they could have just made the railroad all synths but they didnt, and finding them is embarassingly easy to the point of ridiculousness
A lot of people question if they are synths themselves
>hmmmm you could be a synth but also could not be a synth we are too pussywhipped to further this thought whatsoever
brilliant writing
The DLC made it pretty clear that it doesn't matter if you're a synth, which is what people don't get. You're still a living being. If you knew that someone replaced the original person and you're a synth then you would just try your best to be yourself and carry on. Of course some synths can't handle that and get a memory wipe.
>it doesn't matter
That's what he's saying
>it doesnt matter
then what the fricks the point of having normal replaced npcs drop synth parts if it doesnt fricking matter, none of this moronic shit makes sense, the institute is fricking braindead
>yeah we can replace important political figures
>also just random fricking nobodies i guess
Why would you only replace important figures high up? You need spies and agents everywhere. It also makes sense to test them out first between the nobodies.
they dont even need to replace anyone, they could literally invent random people that never existed and use those instead to draw less heat. the idea they HAVE to replace normal people is moronic
What makes you think they didn't invent any people? DiMA was free to develop his personality while Nick Valentine got a pre-existing one.
But normal people already have connections and their place in the world, even if they are nobodies. If you're going to replace a higher up figure with connections then you should make sure that it works first with nobodies.
well anon considering they had 200 fricking years to mak sure it worked with nobodies i would say that by now they should have had every major faction leader in boston be a synth
It doesn't always work because people aren't that stupid and catch up to it. And you see that happen a lot.
>people catch up to it
>except when its convienient like the mayor of diamond city
I mean, the player finds out so yeah. Brotherhood had a synth inside too and you find him.
>makes you have to go through metal detector
now what
Doesn't work on advanced synths. The reason people hate synths is because it's so hard to identify them. Someone like Nick Valentine is obviously a synth, but no one cares because he looks like a robot.
Sorry bro, the Fallout tv show redeemed Lonesome Road
>place electromagnet near head
>nothing goes wrong, i am not a synth
are you going to tell me robots aren't affected by magnetism in fallout just because?
Gen 3 synths are made from flesh and plastic, magnets will not do anything. The only way to find out is fatal.
Dumb premise that has already been done 100 times, with an easy answer.
How many video games have done it though?
obsidian is the peak reddit company and mr house is basically a dev self-insert getting high on his farts
>you should not invade hoover damn because then your legions will be there.
>hmmm, you are correct.
Or
>Mr. Enclave president AI, have a nice day.
>okay
When you think about it for all the talk of how innovative Obsidian was compared to Bethesda all they did was create a fanfic donut steel OC characters, Andrew Ryan rip-off and an extremely underdeveloped faction of football gear wearing Romans lead by another donut steel OC that spouts wikipedia articles. They also tried to destroy BoS despite their iconic status in the franchise.
And while Synths are not the most original concept they are way more interesting than whatever it is that Obsidian tried. Fallout 4 genuinely is more innovative for the Fallout franchise than anything that Obsidian did. Not to mention that New Vegas would never even exist without the concept of 3D Fallout and assets from Fallout 3.
Check out Oliver Swanick here, he won the lottery.
Synths are not interesting because they don't mean anything. They aren't even given a purpose, the Institute has no motive. New Vegas is focused on multiple different factions with believable motivations and issues squabbling over territory and resources. That is far more interesting.
Synths have a very clear purpose of being programmed for anything you want and manipulate the public by replacing important figures without anyone noticing. That's why there is so much paranoia.
That would be very neat, if generic, if it were a story from before the bombs fell. Or if the organization making those synths had any internal logic or even reason to exist. Bethesda went with the Institute, a bogeyman, precisely because it wouldn't require them to make factions with interesting relationships.
People are rationalizing their ai chatbot girlfriends being real and you’re saying that functional clones that have repeatedly yearned for freedom and shown free will are just brushed off by the entire institute as just being some quirky programming?
Frick off, the institute is a shit faction, the railroad is a shit foil to them. The only believable factions are the Minutemen and the BOS. And even then the brotherhood is a stretch that they would send all their forces to wipe out a threat they just learned about and have little info on.
trvth
>And then the Courier gets shot twice in the head and buried alive but he's extremely lucky because he's special and then a skilled brain surgeon down the road saves his life and then he becomes the ruler of New Vegas and there is more Courier wank in our fanfiction Lonesome Road
>and then this kid leaves the vault and instead of getting killed by raiders, he disarms a nuke, becomes an unstoppable killing machine, jerks off a giant robot, destroys an entire faction, and saves the world by getting rid of dirty pee pee water
Thanks you just convinced me to buy Bethesda Fallout
>whataboutism
>NO THE MAIN CHARACTER OF A STORY BEING SPECIAL IN SOME WAY IS ONLY BAD IF ITS FOR A GAME I DISLIKE
Yes a random Courier donut steel OC vs the kid of a genius scientist and a pre-war soldier hero
sorry if obsidians donut steel oc is better than a man they had to artifically retcon into having comitted warcrimes during the anexation of canada
imagine unironically typing this when the protag of fallout 4 is a pre war character who gets frozen, shows up in the post apocalypse, and within 30 minutes is given a base, power armor, a minigun, is made leader of a faction, and kills a deathclaw
The difference is that Bethesda knows they are making a power fantasy so it doesn't feel forced. Obsidian acts all smug about it like they just wrote something that could actually happen in real life even though its clearly a fanfiction about their cool OC.
>bethesda knows fallout 4 is just a glorified fps with an rpg skin barely concealing that fact so they dont have to pretend to care about giving you what is usually endgame gear immediately
obsidian is one of the worst game dev companies ever
NV is just for trannies
>no horrigan
he was really that bad(ass) huh?
Yes. Feels like he was only made because they wanted to have a boss fight at the end
he's also one of the only encounters you cant speech your way out of, best you can do is get a squad of enclave grunts to help you fight him. the thing about talking down lanius being moronic is that it would have made way more sense to say that to caesar than lanius, lanius should fight you regardless and at best speech talks him out of having his goons help him
I've always saw Lanius as the same lazy boss as Frank. It's just
>we need a 7 foot big bad to test your combat skills
i think there should be encounters you cant skill check your way out of tbh, it would make you realize that neglecting combat in favor of skills like intelligence or speech is still detrimental if you cant talk your way out of every situation
he's alright, but hes more of a bossfight than he is an actual villain
the restoration mod made him take 0 damage from my weapons due to a bug. he truly is unkillable
>Horrigan clones in the show
>Zoomers make BAD ASS shorts with slow phonk music in the background
I can see it now
>Bethesda seriously couldn't write their way out of a paper bag
they don't have writers, emil just ask around in the office if anyone got a silly idea to put in the game and thats it
Synths are the coolest thing in Fallout
Replicants aren't robots
so you're saying you're not gonna like Fallout 5 when you go off on another quest to find your kid?
Fallout 4 is like 8 bux rn with dlc and I’m still like ehh....
You can always deliver the chipperino for billionth time
>Immerse in an engaging geopolitical conflict for the fate of the Mojave
or
>[sarcastic]
I know what I'm choosing
>the fate of Mojave
good job Courier
>Nothing matters because the sun will engulf the earth anyway
It occurred to me that Bethesda only really made one great fallout game with 3
>3
>great
4/10 at best.
Its been 16 year get over it
Shit actually gets stinkier over time.
House isn't a villain.
>Bethesdrones
These don't exist and haven't for years. You don't even need to directly mention Bethesda for someone to launch into an unprompted armchair gamedev rant about how shit they think they are. New Vegas fans taking a game so similar to Fallout 3 that its own director has referred to it as an expansion pack before, and allowing video essays to gaslight them into making it an object of worship which they pretend is on the opposite end of a 10 point scale, are far more common and obnoxious today. I don't know how people are unable to see this when posts like this have absolutely littered this place in wake of the TV series. I've never been so hesitant to praise a game I think is great before because its fanbase are such histrionic, non-game playing zealots.
>These don't exist and haven't for years
Lying is wrong, fricking fabio has a schizo tantrum almost everyday.
Fabio is based, frick Obsidislop
>crying and spamming shitjaks and schizo babble is based
have a nice day you pathetic guinea, you’re so desperate that you’ve started trying to gaslight.
>help, help, gaslighting!
cries out the New Vegas fan
>homosexual can’t even comment directly
>no u
Good on you for proving my point though. For those that don’t know fabio is a schizophrenic Italian bethesdrone who has been having a schizo meltdown for five years. He started after 3 lost a strawpoll to NV. He is the one responsible for most of the vs, chad, and troony spam as well as all those fricking ESL chad edits. Pic related is him.
There is only one Fabio. And he does not share power.
>Fallout 3 fans look this this
Wtf, where is my giga chad?
>bait a million plot points
>no idea when next season is
Why would you do this? They arent even filming so what we can look forward to hank meeting house 4 3 years from now? What happened to a season a year.
I only enjoyed Wasteland 3's take on this idea because the Machines never at any point try to say they're humans and instead seek to form their own communities and co-exist with humans.
The synths try to blend as a survival tactic because of the events of WL2
That's basically what DiMA is doing. But co-existing with humans is asking for a basic right to exist.
God institute is so bad.
What astounds me is that there are actually people who are confused as to why the Institute replaces people with synths and then claim that it's bad writing.
>A collective of scientists establishes an underground community and creates synthetic servants and infiltration units to handle menial labor and to keep tabs on the surface dwelling communities
What exactly is so wrong with this premise to warrant the hate the Institute gets?
that the institute's plan was revealed to be incredibly stupid
Striving to become energy independent and not having to rely on above-the-ground generators for electricity is stupid?
if the result is antagonizing everyone in the process in what should be a very passive goal? yes
They need to be sure that their above-ground assets are safe, and that the communities that exist on the surface are not planning to raid them. Hence, they replace people so they have protectors for said assets and plants in said communities.
Considering what they could do, they are being shockingly nice to the people of the wasteland.
>plant sleeper agents into every community
>they are so nice uwu
You wouldn't get it.
?si=swqzjrQlhh_t2DK9
>First "issue" is a caveman tier "durr how synth escape for long time?!" tirade
I guess the slavedrivers of the south were just fricking incompetent too when slaves routinely escaped from their plantations for almost a hundred years.
Fallout 4 has a caveman-tier writing so it makes sense.
>an underground community have enough food for 200 years and enough hi-tech materials to create synths and even fricking teleport
Yeah, what's wrong with that?
I know the Brotherhood of Steel, Super Mutants, and the Enclave are good antagonists but do they need to be in every game? Like why not create another monstrosity like the Master? The institute was new I guess but lame as hell
Master was stupid. Institute is much cooler.
It's also pretty clear that the player character is a synth
>story inspired by Blade Runner
>the DiMA conversation
>the Vault suit you are wearing when you exit the tube is dirty, as though taken off a body or having been outside the Vault, when there are clean versions still packaged near the door
>you can use VATS before getting the Pip-Boy, something noted to be a recent trait for Gen 3's
>being able to take Kellog and Coursers in combat, which everyone is disbelieving of, as it's supposed to be a death sentence for a human
Not even the annexation of Canada makes this impossible because that could simply be what the original Nate did
What was the point of making a post-apocalyptic game about robot civil rights when human-mutant relations are a lot more interesting and relevant to the series?
You can see people complaining ITT that supermutants are in too many games
That's somewhat fair, since supermutants were created by a leaked bioweapon, not radiation. I'm mostly talking about ghouls.
Ghouls seem to be doing pretty good in FO4. They can’t into Diamond City but Goodneighbor is accepting of them.
Fallout 4's story had great promise, and in typical thesda fashion wasn't allowed to be fully explored due to limited dialogue and choice, likely a result of rushed content.
My main problem is you have no agency over the factions you join, you simply do what choice is presented to do with no ability to change their tactics or inject a new perspective outside of flavor text. If you disagree, you are simply ejected and have to crawl to back to whatever faction is left.
I never met master, just blew him and his mormon sect up
I hate railroadgay
Fallout 4 is kino
holy kino...
far harbor was easily the best part of fallout 4, with the glowing sea being not too far behind
the commonwealth was so colorful that even on survival i wasn't scared, but the fog and the people constantly talking about the "things living in the fog" scared me
