I loved 6 from front to back, but 7, 7 was the game changer and probably the "best" FF game ever made, there is no denying it. People who deny it are either trying to be clowns, FF6 dickriders because FF6 was the first one they played, or they don't understand the scope of how much FF7 totally mainstreamified and destroyed jrpgs as a whole.

None of those minigames were fun, though admittedly the core gameplay of FF7 is so atrocious I guess they were indirectly elevated, and FMVs were the warning sign that the series turned full moviegame on that spot.
Were's the actually new stuff? The game is linear as shit, there's zero player agency as usual, Materia is just Esper 2.0 which in itself was just a watered down skill slot system like FF5's job system, there's nothing new in actual game terms, even Limit Breaks were already done in FF6 and that's just another gimmick at the end of the day.

It really doesn't. Brave New World adds in a gimmick to where every enemy has a near-party-wipe counter attack to certain moves. Like you try stealing from one of the regular field enemies right after Narsche with Locke because why wouldn't you want to try out different moves and just wipes your whole party. Pretty much all enemies are like this. Use suplex against a new enemy? Might just do a counter and destroy your whole party. It turns the combat into tedious trial and error. It also turns a lot of the relics into very generic stat sticks (I think there's even a relic call "stat stick"). But what it does do right is that it changes up how espers increase your stats letting you use exp how you want instead of just having the right esper equipped on level up.
Also Brave New World localizes the dialogue to have a lot of childish swearing and it even has a whole fanficion re-write for Celes' character because the romhackers probably really like Celes.
It's fun for a hard type playthrough once if you have played through FFVI a dozen times already, I guess. There's some Japanese romhack that was translated recently that is supposed to be far superior, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Another thing that BNW does, that I personally like, is that it restricts espers from being used on certain characters, so you can't just turn everyone into a quad casting ultima machine. The revamps to character special abilities is also a must-have. Now the game incentivizes you to actually use special character abilities like gau's rage, or Sabin's blitzes, or Cyan's bushido. Gau in particular really got a rework by cutting his rages down to 50 or something instead of the almost 300 that he had prior.

Bum rush is awesome and just as powerful as any magic spell, and you get it early and more easily/ealier than the espers/weapon that teach you Ultima. Bushido isn't that bad if you queue it up after other characters start attacking, pretty much giving you 4x hit wtihout genji gloves. If you're going to b***h about a skill being useless, then choose maybe Runic since it also absobs your own magic.

The translation was fixed up in later releases except the GBA port censored it in a different way and the Pixel Remaster censored it again.

It's made worse in FF6 because this is ontop of every other problem. FFVI had the courtesy of being the last final fantasy for the SNES, so you'd think they would have things down to a science. FFVII and VIII at least have the excuse of being pioneers for sony's new console, so slipups and problems are to be expected.
