It doesn't look like a dragon.

Neither do Altaria nor A-Exeggutor, and yet, they're Dragon type. The concept that a Dragon type doesn't have to look like a dragon/reptile is as old as Gen 2.

What matters is either the name of the animal/plant (or a pun) that inspired it, or the mythological creature it's based on.

I don't care much for Yanmega being Dragon type, but you could argue that since it's based on a prehistoric animal and some prehistoric mons are dragons, you could make it Dragon type, but that would probably be pushing it.

        >A-Exeggutor
One mistake 2 gens ago means they should keep making them?
        >The concept that a Dragon type doesn't have to look like a dragon/reptile is as old as Gen 2.
Kingdra looks like a dragon though, and so does Dragonite.
        >but you could argue that since it's based on a prehistoric animal
        A prehistoric bug.

Well my problems with Flygon (design and typing) can't be fixed
I view Flygon the way that a lot of people view Dragonite and Goodra: a goofy and ugly evolution that ruins the line.

Did you know dragonflies are the most effective hunters in the animal kingdom? And this thing only has 76 attack. Who designs a dragonfly as a special attacker?

      Anonymous

if we redid the line then it should have been a flygon style evolution

first stage is a bug/water type with extreme high attack for a first stage and low speed

second stage yanma exchanges speed for much lower attack (though still primary offensive stat)

and third stage yanmega combines attack of the first stage with speed of the second stage

and if we're really going hard in on the dragonfly theme, give them abilities that prevent their attacks from missing if they go first

it's based on the meganeura, the largest flying insect ever, the greatest airborne predator of it's era
which in turn are part of the dragonfly family, which are THE most proficient fliers of the insect kingdom, capable of aerial maneuvers of insane speed and agility

If there's any bug type that has to be flying it's yanmega

So many bugs have a pairing, I want to see this thing get a rival. Really lean into the musical instrument theming, maybe a harp beetle, or a flute worm

      kek good one

In all seriousness I think Normal/Electric would fit the Porygon line pretty well, it’d also be a nice buff because then Porygon-Z would have access to things like Adaptability Thunder
