disappointed in this. it’s not an improvement over dark souls 1 and feels like a prototype for elden ring. why is this rated so highly?

It's the third weakest FS souls game but it's still better than 99% of other japslop
It's not? People hate DS3
>people hate DS3
>the only game in the original trilogy that still has a dedicated, hardcord, active myltiplayer on all consoles and PC
>the only game in the original trilogy that still has a dedicated, hardcord, active myltiplayer on all consoles and PC
Damn, is Elden Ring PvP THAT bad?
Because dark souls 1 is shit. Even with the remake it could not hold players. Nostalgia is all it has.
Both DS3 and ER have tons of influence from DS2, especially in terms of core mechanics and balance changes.
Yui Tanimura, the DS2 was director, worked alongside Miyazaki on both these games as co-director.
Tons of ideas got ported over nearly 1:1 because they worked very well:
>estus shard/golden seed system
>midroll up to 70% weight
>rolling in any direction while locked on
>effigy/ember/rune arc useable at any time and get HP back to max or get stat boost via great rune effects
>hit stun limit in PvP to prevent infinite stunlocks
>casting magic also consumes stamina to limit perpetual spam
>backstabs have 2 way confirmation via a grab animation
>guardbreak on a blocking enemy allows for a riposte
>jumping attacks on all weapons unpariable
>ultra/colossal weapons unpariable when 2H, except rolling/running attacks
>reasonable poise/hyperarmor levels that allowed for strategic trades but not facetanking endgame bosses
>parry frames active at the apex of the shield swing, not instantly at the start
>4 ring slots so you can still have some interesting synergies and use of niche effects instead of having 90% of players just put on Havel's ring and Ring of Favor
>blue sentinels to save hosts from invaders
>limited respec
>power stancing with any 2 weapons of the same class (only ER)
>rolling in poison/rot covers you and build up the status (only ER)
>rolling in water raises fire def by 20% and lowers lightning def by 20% (only ER)
>pvpsweats think they're the core audience
But enough about Dark Souls 2
>Souls PVP
gross
>it’s not an improvement over dark souls 1
uhm sweaty you forgot dark souls 2 existed?
ds2 is a great game, zoomer
biggest reddit opinion is that ds2 sucks
Say something nice about Dark Souls 3
Prince Lothric is cool
I like the modernized Dark Souls combat which enabled them to also make enemies and bosses bigger, faster, and more dangerous. I thought some of the armor and weapons looked really cool. I enjoyed the feeling when I beat the Nameless King, the Dragonslayer Armour, and the final boss. I hated the Ringed City DLC and used cheatengine to get to Gael then disabled it. Cancerous level design.
>used cheatengine to get to Gael
This is who was telling me to "git gud" all along
homosexual
it came out after the trainwreck that was ds2 and completely scrapped that game's moronic ideas and was more similar to demons and ds1
>the trainwreck that was ds2
anon no! the ds2 cultists will arrive at any moment!
>powerstancing was a moronic idea
>>>
go back
>muh powerstancing
don't care
next
was a moronic idea
try soul memory and gems, scitzhanon
also great ideas?
DS3 did what? oh interesting...
limiting your ember use to 1 per life as opposed to demons souls grass, ds1 humanity spam and ds2 infinite lolgems of eternal immortality
It has an absolutely fantastic soundtrack even by From standards
DS3 was thematically a direct extension of DS2:SOTFS, and maintained many of the gameplay changes DS2 made.
DS2 was a far more technical and tactical game with deep build variety and customization. And then DS3 was just a dumbed down linear action game that rewards button mashing to make it accessible for the kiddies.
*spacks infinite lifegem heal over time and tanks shit head on 24/7*
so true bestie
you forgot to mention powerstancing!
that's ds3. If you played like this against Flexile sentry you'd die. But this is supposed to be "duh hardest baws in duh game!" lmao
Being able to chug so fast that you can do it between a boss's combos was a mistake.
>It has an absolutely fantastic soundtrack even by From standards
It has the weakest soundtrack of the series. All the music after Bloodborne has been a regression
no way dude Sekiro and ER's OST are way worse than DS3
but yeah the OSTs have been going down the shitter since BB
The OST has been going down the shitter since Dark Souls set the precedent that most boss tracks have to be as bombastic as Tower Knight was in Demon's Souls.
yeah agreed by ER all the incoherent wailing sounds like a parody of epic music

lying homosexual, have a nice day
>dark souls set the precedent
And if you continued reading
>that MOST boss tracks have to be
Please learn to read you sad little child. I said nothing about variety, only about volume.
>all games after ds1 had ZERO track variety
>it's somehow ds1's fault because...slightly more than 50% of the songs were epic
learn to logic, then i will care about what you said
>it's somehow ds1's fault because...slightly more than 50% of the songs were epic
Yes, now you're getting it. Dark Souls set the tone for how that trilogy would proceed in terms of its soundtracks, and it subsequently infected their other works as well.
>dark souls set the tone
>even though dark souls's tone is completely different to its sequels in terms of the OST, and its ost variety second only to demons which is a different series with a different setting anyway
i'm sorry that dark souls hurt you somehow
>even though dark souls's tone is completely different to its sequels in terms of the OST
Except in all the places where it isn't.
The Demon Prince fight is the best duo boss they've ever done.
It's just a flat open empty space
And? What, do you prefer cheesing with conveniently placed pillars in your duo fights?
graverobbers is a lot more interesting how you use the arena to your advantage and have to fight 3 distinctly different enemies each with their own tactics, strengths and weaknessess. Demon Prince is the same boring roll spam gameplay on a flat plane
>fighting 3 romhack npcs is more interestnig
mental illness
Ok you have nothing. Maybe you like it cause duh fireball is le eEPIC and the music went "lala luaududual oooooo! Like every dumb ds3 boss track does. Stupid michael bay shit like that or something for 12 year olds.
happy late 13th birthday, anon. i hope your mom bought you many games for mature kids such as yourself!
Graverobbers could have possibly been their best if, as the other anon said, it wasn't three NPC models. Give them unique models and movesets and behaviors. Have Varg focus on keeping himself between you and Cerah instead of running you down, with emphasis on shield bashes and other knockbacks to try and knock you into the lower levels where Cerah can shoot down at you. Give Cerah some kind of evasive ability, a backwards leap or a smokebomb to temporarily break line of sight and lock on, and let them jump between the levels of the arena. Then keep the unnamed Graverobber mostly the same, constantly harrowing you from behind while you try to make headway past the more defensive Varg to get at the squishy but high damage Cerah.
Super corny shit. They're not anime characters. You dont fricking get it.
>Basic party tactics are "anime".
They already have basic tactics. The archer runs away from you and shoots you with a bow.
>The archer runs away from you and shoots you with a bow.
woah...i kneel ds2GODS...such a DEEP and STRATEGIC game...does it allow you to have a stance of power, too, perchance?
You might be confused because DS2 actually did have invader NPCs with less uniform tactics like Maldron or Holy Knight Aurheim that were actually interesting, but Graverobbers are as basic b***h as they come.
Exactly like graverobbers did. You just dont know what the frick you're talking about
It has the best catacombs in the series.
it has far less gimmick fight then demon souls
I'd honestly prefer more gimmick fights to what DaS3 had.
it doesnt have frick horse valley
Gael
Friede and Gael are the best boss fights in all of Fromsoft games.
They're just wambo wombo roll spam schlock for kids. And they have cutscenes, mid cutscenes, cringe dialogue
Yeah but From has yet to top them.
Yeah they did. Executioner's Chariot is better. Lots of bosses are.
You're one of those.
>decided to use a scythe in DS3
>the best scythe is behind the hardest fight in the game
awesome. also it fricking hisses non-stop when you have it out.
I liked using a scythe but it seems like it was the worst possible weapon type for DS3.
>it feels like a prototype for unarguably one of the best games ever made
>why did people love this?
Yet another thread trying to change the narrative.
How tiresome.
>babies first rpg
Tiresome
my first RPG was earthbound and i played it when i was 3 years old and that was probably about 10 years before you were even born
What's the best area? Probably the Corvian Village
>One thread saying 3 > 1

most likely the same OP farming yous lmao
never change Ganker
True, this site doesn't have hundreds of thousands of daily users or anything lol
>hundreds of thousands
It's just us 3 kpop fans (me, you and Miyeon bro)
The only great Dark Souls game is the first only. The other two still are good, though.
Alright who just insulted Dark Souls 2? I sensed it.
The contrast between the art people make of Elden Ring, the kind of game you would think it was by looking at vista 5x5s, and the fat diablo dungeon it is will always make me laugh. Why cant Miyazaki make anything but Dark Souls?
Why does he need too? Why is it bad to have a niche? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
>This homie picasso can only paint one style, its always the same shit, why doesn't he try sculpting instead of painting?
It's only rated highly because a bunch of zoomers started with it and also never played Bloodborne.
It has cool bosses
Why does everyone fellate ds1 so much? Half the game is unfinished bottom of the barrel design yet everyone glosses it over, only to nitpick at every perceived mistake the sequels make.
I still love ds1 and is my most played in the series, but even 2 is an improvement over it. DS3 is Miyazaki's vision of the series (mostly) realized.
this
the only game ds1 is better than is demons
most of the bosses in ds1 are garbage, you can only dodge in cardinal directions, half of the weapons are worthless, the weapon progression is annoying and grindy, and as fun as the interconnected world is the first time you go through it, it becomes a tedious slog running back and forth to shit all the time
>even 2 is an improvement over it.
Do better next time.
Because Dark Souls 1 fans see it as an abstract piece of art, or a piece of video game history, something more than just a mere video game.
So when you point out that
>99% of the enemies in DaS1 have zero defense against you circle strafing with your shield up to backstab them
>The game has two completely fricked stats (RES and END) and is the only game in the franchise with such an issue
>By far the worst and most broken PvP
it means less than nothing to them. That wont stop them from pointing out that DaS2 has bad texture tiling in some areas and DaS3 is too linear though. Almost all of them argue in bad faith and aren't worth engaging with.
>END is fricked
Huh? Is this some ptde issue?
It's the most overpowered stat in the history of the franchise.
Sure, but if I want to compare it as a video game to other video games and it doesn't hold up, are you going to throw a tantrum and call me a contrarian?
>Because Dark Souls 1 fans see it as an abstract piece of art, or a piece of video game history, something more than just a mere video game.
And it is.
lol
lol noob
yes because it still holds up
the epic gaslighting ds2cord troons have arrived
it's a solid 8.5/10 with some good boss fights, but it's easily the most rushed and sloppy souls game though.
>bosses moved around last minute
>boss names/lore changed completely late in development
>map pieces glued together and mostly unfinished
Even trying to bother with the lore for DS3 is pointless as a result
Reducing stamina for rolls as a hack to get around making enemies faster wasn't ideal either
From spent all their effort on the boss fights.
crying about not being able to roll diagonally is a sign of a shitter who can't play around the game's intended limitations
Damn if took 50 posts for someone to start dick sucking Bloodborne
I liked the movement better and the bosses weren't as dumb as DS1. everything else wasn't as memorable
>reinstall dark souls 2
>start it up
>it absolutely hates the DS4 controller
Am I really gonna have to frickin download the ds4 software? I thought we were beyond that.
>Am I really gonna have to frickin download the DS4 software? I thought we were beyond that.
ps4/ps5 - dinput
xbox - xinput
PS4/PS5 controller are perfectly well supported with DirectInput (like any generic controller is) but because all gamedevs only know how to use XInput (which only supports/assumes the controller is and xbox one) you have to emulate an xbox controller to work with that API
Xinput is Microsoft's proprietary controller drivers, compared to Dinput. There is no disadvantage to Dinput just that it doesn't have native support in every application. You can just use DS4Windows or Steam Config or about a half dozen other input wrappers to have it seen as Xinput as well as rebind buttons, adjust deadzones, do turbo/macros, action sets/layers, etc.
It's because of XInput being the standard controller library for all Windows PC software within the last 15 years. Every single game and program expects A to be the bottom button. XInput is supporting the functionality of the Xbox controller on PC.
The only reason you can use other controllers on Steam is because it emulates them into Xbox 360 controllers. You can plug in a PS4 controller into any windows PC without even an internet connection and it will immediately function as a dinput gamepad, but devs have to program support.
Dark Souls PTDE, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 were ported from Xbox, thus uses XInput. PS4/PS5 is a DInput device and works just fine as that, the problem is almost everyone has dropped DInput support and uses XInput now.
what it's the most hated dark souls
Not bad honestly
With these numbers, could I cap my soul memory at 30K and consistently grief new characters? I've never actually tried invasions in this game.
you're a freak kys
I didn't like it. Not a fan of swamps
i just figure out i can basicly transmog in elden ring? are there any nice outfit for female characters?
Transmog? You can alter some armor sets to not have a cape, but you can't give one armor piece another's appearance.
>are there any nice outfit for female characters?
You could try the Astrologer's Robe (Altered), the Nox Maiden/Swordstress set, or the Noble's Traveling Garb.
oh nice tge traveling garb was pretty much the style i was looking for. thanks mate
I very much enjoy all of the souls games!
No! What are you doing?!
You have to pick a favorite and shit on the others to justify your position
