Yes, I'm at the point where i almost exclusively emulate.
Can stream PS2/PS3 era games to my switch too, so i can play everything comfy in bed.
Skill based games became popular recently.
I remember playing C&C1 when I was young.
Turtling every time having fun and enjoying cool video sequences.
Now RTS is all about how many clicks you can do like an autist lol
Work for after your work.
Same with wow, ff7 etc.
Either that or games have checklists like an excel sheet lol They are even prepping the kids with pokemon.
No I'm not a PUSSY or a moron
All games should be easy. I paid for the game, I am entitled to see all the content.
you play for content not pay for content
All games are easy to play. It's learning them that tastes the sweetest. If you're constantly in desperation to relax, maybe you've got some issues that need to be worked out. Ignoring them never works.
I have always gotten frustrated too easily even as a kid. I get sweaty palms sometimes too. I recognize this and choose to not engage with games that might make me angry.
I used to get frustrated with games really easily as a kid also, but I got over it as I grew older.
Lucky.
Are you excited for the new dq game? Im hoping its still colorful
DQXII? there's not much information about it at the moment but I'm pretty confident the game will be great so I'll be looking forward to it whenever a teaser or some screenshots are released
DQVI kinda filters a lot of people due to its dungeons, high encounter rate, and a number of other interesting decisions, personally I enjoyed it but it's definitely one of the tougher DQs to get into
yeah that's another plus towards the 3DS version if you choose to do so
I really loved dqvii
I played the 3ds version. and there was something about it that really captured me. I played it for months. really fond memories.
DQVII's a nice one, I enjoyed a lot of the characters and their interactions as well as the stories that each town had, VII really excelled with that episodic storytelling, Kiefer's the best btw
>Lucky
You just get swept up in whatever emotion you feel and let it take control? It's not luck, it's called maturing.
I have trouble controlling my emotions. Its silly to play games that would upset me. I dont see the fun in that. I suuround myself with things that make me happy. I try and live in a bubble.
Nice
that game is so beatuiful its unreal.
Same with 8. Im surprise 8 hasnt gotten a remaster
it got an enhanced port on 3ds and that's good enough for square
Would you recommend emulating that version or the PS2 one?
3ds NOW
3ds version has action replay codes that lets you reset skills on the fly. That's the dealbreaker for me as an mmo guy.
So you like the PS2 one better
No I want to try every weapon and skills without replaying the game from the start for each one.
Oh ok
DQIX might probably be peak Toriyama art style in my eyes, or at the very least close to it
the 3DS version lets you speed up battles and has maps located on the bottom screen, however if you want higher quality graphics and a symphonic soundtrack then the PS2 version has got your back, at the end of the day you can't go wrong with either version of DQVIII so go with the one that appeals to you more
you can add the symphonic ost on the 3ds version. imo the 3ds version is the way to go.
It's too easy without random battles it totally ruins dungeons. The whole point is surviving to get to the boss which doesn't have heal or save point before
don't speak to 3ds subhumans
Random battles are also easy in all DQ (Except maybe DQII), just pop holy water or cast holy protection and most times going through dungeons are a breeze.
I have a hacked 3ds but I physically own dq viii, can I still mod in the symphonic soundtrack and/or decensor it?
>symphonic ost.
Best version of the ost is the JP 3ds version. Its basically the PS2 version but with less reverb.
>Lock 90% of the postgame behind a timegated, now defunct online service
other than that I loved that game
Is that timegated stuff even relevant to the story?
Some of it. But it's extremely easy to get the data onto your save file. Even if you have a physical cart which almost no one in this thread would, you can just buy a dongle online to edit your save and add the dlc.
Link to dongle? I have a physical cart.
I've seen that some autistic guys have a server up where you can download the content. you just gotta change some DNS settings on your DS.
you can still access all of it thanks to some really cool people who set up their own DNS server for access. Same with pokemon mystery gifts
>dragon quest 9 remake in the style of dragon quest 11
Would shit muhself. How do you implement street pass on current systems? Also, were you there when it worked? I took my DS downtown and got a ton of hits with it.
Streetpass is a gimmick. Its not needed.
Streetpass was super fun. Prob never happen again but it was really fun sharing maps with randoms while out and about
Depends on how you define "easy to play".
I love Fromsoft games and they tend to be quite easy for me, but I'm completely baffled by combo systems or games that require way more inputs like Nioh or Wo Long. I can still beat the games, but I don't find them comfortable to play.
Platformers or racing games frustrate me. Same with fighting or shooting games. Valkyria chronicles seems to be the exception for shooters though
Oh and the sims games too. Too much micromanaging
What's wrong with DQ6 I feel like no one talk about that game
I don't remember this game being easy. It's just straightforward. Its all about synergy in your team.
I don't understand why millennials want an "easy" game to "relax". Isn't it more relaxing to play a game like Bloodborne that's actually fun than to play one that's completely braindead?
Isn't millenial gen x
I play hardcore shit like Elden Ring. But most of the time, I’m fine with casual shit. I just need to relax
I've never played much of dq9. I love all other dq games. but I feel like without playing the multiplayer in 9 I'm not getting the full experience. and my friends are all really really really painfully lame and don't want to play a jrpg on the DS with me 🙁
I don't care if the game is difficult, I only want to not have to make pixel perfect inputs since I have really poor motor skills.
That's why I mostly play games that are either MMORPG or turn based rpgs.
how does the multiplayer in dragon quest ix work anyway? if me and my wife wanted to do it, is the entire game multiplayer or only certain missions? it would be amazing to be able to go through the whole thing with her.
anyone? there is weirdly barely any information online about how it works that I've been able to find. anyone have any actual experience with it?
Idk
hm okay thank you
Your welcome 🙂
thank you again
Ok
you can go through the whole thing with her if you want. only issue is i think the multiplayer is focused on who's hosting, which means if you beat the game your wife would have to catch up on her world. still fun though and it's pretty easy to rush when you know where you're going.
source: played through the game 6 times
With all the mobile Dragon Quest ports, I'm surprised IX hasn't had one yet. That's basically free money right there.
Yeah
A 9 remaster needs online multiplayer to replace the DS local connection, and they know it. That's a barrier to remastering it. You can play 9 solo, but it's insanely soulless.
I didn't like Dragon Quest IX, felt boring instead of comfy.
Why
not sure fren, maybe it was the lack of actual characters as party members or maybe something else, but the thing is I felt like the DS remakes were far better games, got disappointed and dropped it.
my wife
I had to drop VII because it was too damn slow, which is sad because the game was comfy if nothing else. I dropped it at some village where everyone was turned into an animal, does it get better soon after or something?
man you gotta keep going. it keeps that unbelievable comfy vibe all the way through. you just gotta sort of fully immerse into the comfiness. the stories of each of the villages are what it's all about. and grinding out vocations.
Always looked at Dragon Quest VII like an anime series where the heroes go help out the next town they visit and then once done play again the next day to see what adventure they had next.
>and grinding out vocations.
didn't even unlock those ^^u
I'll try it again in the future, game was slow but also very charming.
That's a cool way of looking at it. But isn't every Dragon Quest structured in the same way? I'm currently playing XI and everytime I reach a new place, there's some little adventure to be had. Always loved that about this series.
Believe it started focusing on town stories in DQVI, although DQXI does have small stories in each town you to still have the main story to motivate you to progress in game.
Most of DQVII is 'Go save the next island once all islands are saved then we'll start talking about the big bad villain'
i dont know how i love this game so fricking much despite it taking 40 hours to unlock classes
RPGs are made to waste people with grinding
the only genre where I don't feel bad at playing easy mode
Its not time wasted if you are having fun
>doing the same repetitive battle for 10+ hours while wasting items to regain HP/Mana is fun
that's autism
I like seeing the numbers go up and getting new spells / attacks. Also cool armor and stuff. Makes me happy 🙂
Is there even an easy mode for dq9?
Cheat codes
>always replenish world map item
>exp multiplier
>instant alchemy
>grotto editor/generator
>hoimi tables
I've played dq9 loads and wanted to make it a bit harder, so I came up with a 'nuzlocke' sort of idea for a playthrough. let me know if this is a good idea or what i can change for more fun or so i wont wanna kill myself:
>randomise vocation at start of game
>choose random weapon the vocation can use INCLUDING fisticuffs
>when hero dies reset to random vocation from level 1 and reset all skill points, then rechoose weapon
>when party member dies, they're dead FOREVER. make new party member then assign new class (get new equipment/sell old)
alternatively, you could just reset them with a different vocation if you cant be bothered to make a new guy.
rules for more difficulty:
>only a new party member can join once a main boss has been killed
>no healing except through items/no healing at all? (includes status)
>alchemy gear only
obviously you'd need cheats to change your vocation if you die and reset your stats/etc, but im not sure if this just makes the game harder or harder to play the game. lots of grinding but i dont really care.
You're going to have a hell of a time once enemies start critting / casting Thwack.
Have you done a solo run? It's a lot of fun and really tests your knowledge of the game's systems.
>thwack
frick, completely forgot that was even a thing. i remember wiping out to that a couple times before, too.
haven't done a solo run but I can imagine it must be pretty interesting. how do you manage healing? do you just buy a shit ton of items or do you stay sage majority of the time?
You start out as minstrel which has heals I basically beelined for the paladin class for how tanky it is+ it has midheal which was fine enough to get me through the game and used that as a basis for my build.
But monk has a skill called meditation which is a selfheal skill that heals slightly more than midheal and is also more cost effective.
But the neat thing about meditation is that once you unlock it all classes can use it and due to how little mp it cost even MPlet classes can run it without really having to worry about mp consumption.
Also the priest skill tree has a passive that gives your magic mending a universal base increase so you can heal a decent amount even when your class doesn't have a lot of points in the healing stat.
So it might not be a fullheal, but you always have a decent healing skill you can fallback so that it makes item management a bit easier.
But you are obviously supposed to use an item if you get critted and am almost dead which is also pretty cool, because usually you can go through the entire game without ever using your healing items.
this is very helpful. had no idea that meditation was even a thing, thank you anon, gonna play this later this evening :3
I remember having fun doing a solo run.
The first few bosses were kind of aids especially that one illness boss, but after unlocking vocations it was fun tactucally leveling up a bunch of classes to get jyst the right skills and loadouts to beat a boss.
Especislly when you realize that the skill points you get are universal.
So you can level up a certain low level class to gain tons of skill points and the change vocations to invest those into a skill tree of a completely different class so you can theoretically gain busted skills earlier than usual with the downside of not being able to invest less into another class' skill tree.
Also the skills and passives you unlock also carryover to other classes so you can use a monk's psyche up skill while being a warrior so you can get some weird synergy going on.
Also when you have a full party all the exp the party gets divvied up, but when you're on your your singular character gets all the exp so that also balances the game a bit around the fact that you're playing a solo run and it als makes it easier to lvl up certain classes to get a handy skill for your loadout.
are there other games like dq9?
I've been looking for something similar but nothing has such a good combat and class system
Sometimes, when I'm in the mood for it. Not in action games or anything, they should be somewhat challenging.
Dragon Quest? Yeah I'll kill some metal slimes to be above curve so the rest of the game is a cakewalk.
MGR? Nah let me get a few drinks in me to keep it interesting.
i played DQ9 a bunch as a kid and a bunch of my earliest and most fond faps was to this render of pavo that was in game magazine review of the game, i think i had the specific page ripped out and hidden under my bed for months 'cause i was cranking it so much to her
For me it was Patty. Her joining the Party after some postgame quest was one of the game's highlights.
based pavo chad

Dragon Quest IX was great, I loved it. Although my biggest gripe with this game is the amount of grinding you have to do before you can move forward. It's not exactly hard but it's differently a grind.
