homie... They just changed G Rank to Master Rank and called it a day. It's the exact same shit except you can download it cheaper than what it used to cost since you're not buying HR+G as a game.
You actually got fricking scammed by HR games in the past because they charged full price for G releases.

I can see them doing it under the pretense of responding to complaints over the base game's enemy variety by remixing the spawns. That'll be another 70$ plus tip.

And by releasing the full game again in order to buy the expansion they can distance themselves from the original releases bad reviews and have a whole new reason for people to review bomb another release.

Most of those are BBI enemies. Also Living Armor and Eliminators have clearly been replaced by Dullahan and Minotaur.

But yeah, I don't think they really thought this one through. I guess BotW's success has taught devs they can spam the same 5 enemies all over the map and there will be no issues.

Minotaur and executioner are totally different enemies though? Minotaur is fast, has lots of charges and is reckless and with good timing you can bait them into hitting walls and shit. Executioner walks towards you very slowly and ha super armor.

Dullahan has all kinds of annoying as frick mechanics. It can only be hurt when hitting it's head. It teleports everywhere, it has AOE stuns and can grab and sap massive amounts of your health (including maximum health).
Living Armor is just a big guy in armor you have to hit with magic.

              >One off bosses don't count

OPs list literally includes one off bosses though. A bunch of them only respawn on BBI after you beat Daimon.

              >too moronic to reply to the correct post so you attack yourself

              moron,

Dragon's Dogma 2s enemies are vastly different though. Many have new attacks, weaknesses and behaviors. In DD1 most reskins are just reskins who do nothing different but are weak to a different element.

You obviously have not played the game. Either of them.

They're not reskinned? They have entirely new skeletons, meshes and they fight totally differently?

Vermund Purgener is closer to a griffon than drake (though it's obviously based on a pegasus).
The snake purgener is just a fricking hydra with one head. It's a huge snake that moves all over the place and is incredibly hard to pin down.

compare the way the snake moves vs medusa and you'll quickly realize it's a reskinned model.

                Anonymous

Except I've played the game and killed both. They are completely different fights.
Medusa moves around slowly and relies on trying to turn you to stone. Other than that she mostly shoots you with her bot.
Snake purgener moves around the arena almost constantly. It will slither all over the place way faster than you can run and coils around shit to protect it's weak spots.

It's like trying to compare fighting an ogre to a dullahan because they've both got two arms and legs so obviously that makes them the same, right?

                Anonymous

a more accurate comparision would be griffin and wieneratrice, aka two enemies that are definitely reskins but that have like one or two different attacks. that's exactly what they made with the snake purgener
                >change head part so that it's a real snake instead of a woman
                >remove the ranged attacks(that used the woman part of the body so they wouldn't work anyways) and give the boss an extra attack
and that's it. that's a reskined boss. definitly better than just changing it's color but pretty lazy either way.

                Anonymous

No. The snake purgener has an entirely different method of movement on top of an entirely different set of attacks. The fights are nothing alike at all. It's as moronic as saying Minotaur is a reskinned Eliminator.
The only similarity between medusa and the snake is they're snakes. Much like the minotaur and eliminator are bull people.

They're one of the worst fricking enemies in the game to fight. If you're not expecting it they can wipe you and all of your pawns out in seconds. And if you don't have an ice weapon attack you can't even kill them anyway (and your pawns wont have enough time to cast any magic while around them).

the enemy variety in elden ring was spectacular overall though and that's solely because they took enemies from every other game they made and reskinned them at best. elden ring is basically fromsofts greatest hits, all your favorite things from the past decade of souls games in 1 title and an open world to make it worse.

dd2 isn't even that, dragon's dogma 1.5 would have been fine but it's dragon's dogma .8 and we'll have to wait for the dlc and hope that it brings it up to dragon's dogma 1.5.

          thats exactly right
they copy pasted tons of enemies from previous souls titles into elden ring, which is entirely par for the course with fromsoft
which is why if youve played one fromsoft game, youve played them all

Fromsoft repeatedly changes up the design and animations. The DS3 knights don't fight like the Black Knights from the previous games. It is ironic that you are defending DD2, a game that straight up copy pastes from DD1 without changing anything while bringing down Fromsoft who at least do enough to change their games meaningfully.

Yes I am fricking mad. The only, ONLY fight in the WHOLE of DD2 that is even remotely enjoyable is the Drakes. They're the only ones with enough HP to stay alive more than 3 seconds and have enough abilities to be called a fight. Everything else is just 1 attack fodder there to slow you down.

At least in ER every enemy can be a threat. And at least in ER the progression feels rewarding and sensible, instead of you suddenly power spiking within the first 2-3 hours in DD and then nothing is a fight.

It was? Do you think vidya fights are elevated by the virtue of being a one and done business in a run or something?
It's a decent midboss fight, as much as it's still largely a recycled asylum demon, and there's a reason there's so many of them.

By the way, in DD1/DA there's four unique fights, Grigori (barely a fight), Death, the Gazer and Daimon, IF you're generous you add the Dark Bishop which is really just a reskinned Lich, and yet we were all running through BBI over and over again because guess what, if a fight is good it's actually fun to do it again.
Nobody was whining about having to fight the Hydra again or the gorillion of pallette swapped drakes you genocide.
So why is Elden Ring bad when it has unmatched enemy variety and overall a really good quality average but suddenly this place is glossing over all of the games which have repeated bosses all over the place, especially in a DD thread?
What about games like PSO or MH where fighting bosses over and over is the point?

my suggestion is that if youre going to include an enemy in your game, perhaps including something your players have 10 years of experience fighting against isnt a strong design choice

Elden Ring has 165 unique enemy types. This is being particularly harsh, too, because it's, for example, counting all foot soldier variants as one enemy type. No other contemporary open-world game even gets remotely close to as much enemy variety.

How do you think ER gets away with it? A huge pool of assets that the devs can port over from an older game. Additionally, your interactions with enemies are rather simplistic.

true, though at least ER has to contend with making new designs visually, even if they are just iterations of simple stuff like "undead soldier" or "knight in heavy armor". pokemon can outright recycle more old monsters than designing new ones per game.

It baffles me why they couldn't get some enemies from BBI or even the MMO. Instead they make goblins green and pretend it's a new enemy type.
Another gripe is that big monsters show up way too often, so it takes away from their fights being some rare "epic" occasion. I'm only level 22, and I've killed like 4 Griffins.

For example the first two major unlocks of warrior and sorc have proper quest lines for unlocking their ultimate skills. Then nothing. Every single one after that point is just talk to the person after getting the class. There isn't even class quests.

That's not what happens you fricking liar. You don't get the griffin to spawn in until you've completed at least one wyrm hunt quest, at which point a griffin may attack a random caravan outside of Gransys.
Completing the first set of wyrm hunt quests allows you get the Griffin's Bane quest from Aldous. You can't fight the griffin in the tower, or even fully clear it without this quest or Wyrmking's Ring, and you can't encounter griffins out and about until you witness one attack the caravan or start the quest.

That's just the way it is with video games nowadays. Sequels ALWAYS scale down and everyone is surprised for some reason. Content relative to the previous iteration is ALWAYS reduced no matter what. Map sizes may get bigger, but everything else is reduced. I'm pretty sure From is the only company this trend doesn't apply to. Feel free to prove me wrong, but you can't.

as a person who's never played a single Dragons Dogma game I'm considering starting with the first one since it seems like it has more content. World and quest wise, not really, but might as well, it's a safer, cheaper bet, but dd1 is notorious for having a slow start and dd2 seems to have a better one.

There's nothing interesting about saurians, goblins, harpies and skeletons interaction-wise. Frosts in DMC1 have a bigger moveset than Drakes in DD2. If you are defending this degree of dev laziness then it is ironically you who is a casual.

Nah that is bullshit about the goblins at least. There is a shit loads of different kinds of them. Easily 20+ and each one acts differently.
Some of them just try to fight you, others call for allies, some are well equipped and armored and will fight more like a person, others will hide and stalk you for a while until you're in a vulnerable position then attack (they are absolute c**ts for dog piling you if you get knocked over).

I counted them as different enemy types but they are reskinned to the hell and back. Elden Ring does the same, have jobbers followed by a king of jobbers. For 90% of the game you are only fighting 7 or 8 different enemy types. They are not good enough to carry a 50 hour game. DD2 is not comparable to a real Action game, let alone its enemy movesets. Not to forget that the game is piss easy.

Dragon's Dogma 2 has more enemy variety than the first. It however has worse enemy placement as well. The vast majority of fights are goblins, saurians and wolves. And they spawn much too frequently while traveling.

It just needs to utilize the enemies it has better is all.

                >zombies
too easy too both defeat and completly ignore that's why they only put them in crammed spaces like caves
                >slime
                same issue as zombies
                >harpies
annoying as frick to fight against, the less there are the better
so really there's not really anyway to fix the enemi variety without adding more enemies

                Anonymous

It utilizes its enemy variety very poorly, but it still does have a big problem with enemy variety in general. Sure it may have more enemies than 1 but not by a lot. 4-5 new enemy types is not justfiable when you have copied the remaining 20 from the previous game.

The biggest dealbreaker though is that the world is 4 times bigger and also more densely populated. It honestly feels like the game was designed by a moron who leaned onto everything the game was doing poorly. It's ridiculous. You'd expect a game dev to mask the absence of variety by smart enemy placements, only to find that the devs have made it impossible not to notice.

                Anonymous

The game desperately needed more grunt type enemies. Batthal should have at minimum had a bunch of new enemy types and not just slightly stronger versions of the enemies in Vermund. Likewise the volcano island should have had newer enemies and not just a 3rd stronger variety of enemies.

If they even added 3 new trashmob/individual humanoid enemy types for each major town and brought back 5 of the big enemies from the previous game, I swear you wouldn't hear this complaint. It was so goddamn easy and yet they fricked this up. This is literally what souls does and everyone praises their variety.

                Anonymous

They could have even just thematically reskinned enemies and most people wouldn't complain.
Like a Chimera in the grassy areas, a manticore in the desert and a cerberus in the volcano. Literally this could all be more or less the same enemy reskinned with one or two changes and it would massively appear to increase enemy variety.

Do this with everything and there would be no complains.

          >I like how permanent health damage works, forcing you to camp or sleep.
I dunno, I am not a fan. I get the concept, but it doesn't really model an "adventure" because it's entirely likely that you rest and then immediately get caught in a clusterfrick and lose a chuck of your health 5 minutes after starting your day. I'd much rather if just fighting in general steadily reduced your HP so that you would only be completely debilitated after actually going through lots of combat instead of like one fight.

          >but the size makes backtracking a bit of a pain.
I haven't really decided whether or not it's actually worth it to seek out treasure chests and Seeker Coins. The latter because they might not be worth it in their trades, and going after them for 100% seems like so much of a chore.

I've been exploring most of the map and it's not worth it at all beyond just going to the key areas, the chests are complete dogshit and it's just fighting more of the same. Completed almost the entire north of the map and dreading the desert tbh

              Anonymous

Yeah that's my experience so far. I think some dungeon chests have sorta unique loot, though I can't really say for sure because who the frick knows if that stuff will show up on a vendor later. But 90% of chests are just generic materials that you can get off the ground anywhere, and sometimes generic gear that you can get from a vendor.

I hate that they're tempting you to deal with the annoying platforming and going around and around to find a path to chests (sometimes only to find that your pawn already opened them...) just for them to be trash.

Why did they spend so much time just modeling the same exact enemies again? Did they just recycle them and update the textures a bit or something? I haven't played DD2 yet but they just look so similar. If they were made from scratch, then it seems like a waste of time.

Cyberpunk 2077, perhaps the worst PR blunder in recent history has a confirmed sequel in the works and very positive steam reviews. MTX and performance issues have never killed a franchise and likely never will.

Everything about the presentation looks cheap as hell so I would hope that it was due to the budget being modest and not the devs being that incompetent at putting together an open world rpg. However, considering the first game has sold over 8 million copies (I know most of them were from huge discounts on Steam, but still) you'd think that would justify Capcom putting in more effort into the sequel.

I'm getting really tired of running back and fourth on this massive map because every fricking quest keeps sending you on the opposite side and then makes you go all the way back. Thinking of just rushing through the main quest and dropping the game. I'm pretty close anyways.

I'd say your ability to interact with the world is close to par with a game like oot but you can't even fricking swim in DD2. When I got the ability to have my pawn launch me into the air I thought I just opened up a whole new world of possibilities when it came to scaling mountains or getting to hard to reach places in the city, but nope. As far as I'm aware you can't command them to do specific abilities. Just a generic help and go command if you want your mage to try to go to a chest that is within their hover range.

I started buying ferrystones everytime I see them in stock. If you keep using them to travel and complete quests you'll always have one in hand because they usually pay out a lot. Yeah you'll probably always be a little down on your wallet because of that but it's worth saving all the time and effort. Not worth buying new gear everytime you get to a new town.

    Hobgoblins
Bigger Goblins who do lots of leap attacks in the desert (frick those c**ts)*
    Bandits (fricking lame)

    Saurians
    Poison Saurians (Asp?)
    Rock Saurians*
Like 5 different kinds of harpies that all fricking suck
    Armored Cyclops

I really wish there was more new shit. If they want me to think Vermund and Bhattall or whatever are areas far from Gransys then they really ought to have invested in different monsters for the baseline. >flasks

    >mystic knight
    >assassin
    >ranger
    >magick archer being a killing machine superior to the other magic users (now you have to use the master skill)
    >loss recovery from heaing items
    >a number of rings
    >stronger resistances on late game gear and capes in particular
    >support skills for the sorcerer
    >equipment layers
    >dragonforging for gear that hasn't been enhanced
    >ambushes
    >using inputs to break away when being grabbed or to recover when stunned
    >a bunch of useful/dangerous status effects such as torpor
    >endgame dungeon
    What they added:
    >more Black folk
    >new but pretty linear landscapes
    >spearhand that doesn't come close to replacing the mystic knight
    >trickster that's just not fun
    >warfarer that only brings you a tiny step closer to what vocations were like in the first game
    >city that has none of Gran Soren's air of being a fortress first and foremost

I'm not sure about dragonsplague. My only encounter with it was when I hired a pawn and saw this message saying that it's impossible to know who's infected until it's too late or something. Dismissed the guy immediately, but the idea and purpose of this mechanic are either too moronic or too obscure for me to understand.
What I am certain about is that constant camping and resting is meant to waste your time so that you don't immediately rush to explore and discover that there's not really much to do, to fight and struggle against, and to see.
It also serves as a way to keep the Magick Archer relatively balanced. Not being able to oneshot shit when using everyone's favorite vocation available quite late into the game would cause a shitstorm, so they added the master skill that doesn't that but causes loss to accumulate, forcing you to rest. Or you can get lucky with drakes' drop and never run out of wakestones, essentially turning them into ammo.

Healing items are useless unless you go on purpose without a mage, sorcerer support shit was crap i like it focus in damage like a black mage but what a dissapointment no tornado until you get a guide of master skills

While game is piss-easy, healing items are not useless. In many cases, I'd rather jump down a cliff than spend 5 minutes looking for a way down. Also, considering the lack of melee options for ranged vocations, if you choose one, you'll have to summon one or two melee pawns, otherwise you'll be stunlocked to death with no ways to retaliate. And this doesn't contradict my first sentence about DD2's difficulty since it's just bad game design.

          >I'm not sure about dragonsplague.
Without the use of mods and other third party resources you're limited to two saves: the regular save/autosave and resting in an inn.
By resting in an inn you essentially save over both of your saves. And I believe the only way to advance the illness is to rest at an inn/bed.
Tie all of this in with you needing to rest in order to get a status update on your pawn quest.
If your pawn has aids and it has reached critical mass
          >sleep at inn

Holy frick all of the "infiltration" missions pissed me off, it's like they have no awareness of the game's strengths. I don't want to spend time running around towns, more monster killing. Itsuno is a moron.

I initially thought it was neat how you could put on guard armor to blend in and then quickly realized that was all there was to the mechanic. No dialogue, no sneaking past checkpoints, no danger of someone potentially blowing your cover, etc. Even if you aggro the guards, no alarm gets sounded and if you run a certain distance they stop chasing you - and afterwards they go about as if nothing happened afterwards. The castle/town isn't even placed on high alert.

Pawns always talk shit about how coming crimes will land you in jail, but I've yet to see that happen.

Everything seems like a post production afterthought.

Yeah, everything is really half-baked compared to the original.
Even the forger is way more restricted. Even if quests where you can give the requested item to multiple people, it's very likely that it won't let you turn in the quest twice.

the guards never reacted to what I did which was odd to me. I just walked in and did the objective for infiltrations and walked out. at first I thought it was because I was using thiefs stealth skill and they didn't see me but no they really don't do anything.

            >at first I thought it was because I was using thiefs stealth skill
I'm not sure what their trigger is. I took off the armor just to see what would happen and all the patrolling guards in the vicinity started to chase after me before giving up after ten seconds.
The static NPCs didn't move at all though.

I have a theory that the game was made in 2014 to be a quick sequel to DD1, but then the idea was shelved. When they finally decided to go for DD2, they just recicled the project.
Everything feels like DD2 is straight out of 2012. Quest design is abysmal and makes no sense, graphics are PS3 tier, UI is from 10 years ago, etc.
It's a fun game, but a rough gem, exactly like DD1. I can't explain why they'd voluntarily decide not to try improve anything from the first game.

MMO was dogshit until the last months of its shutdown where they removed the moronic "pull" mechanic and let elements and hits deal stamina damage.

          Anonymous

That fix was implemented one year in and the "matching element to drain stamina" was from the start. They only added mechanics in 2.0 that allow you to break boss' poise with heavy hitting attacks so sorcerer can just cast seism to make a boss fall down instead of being useless. 2.0 and 3.0 theme also mostly move away from pulling.
