Hes not wrong about elden ring being the complete opposite of revolutionary even though I see retarded third worlders and kids endlessly spam how elden ring somehow "changed" open world games or set a le new standard, or some equally retarded bullshit. I can say without any fucking exaggeration that its one of the least impressive open worlds ive ever witnessed in a game and it does *nothing* new. You literally can not claim otherwise as it plays the EXACT same as every other souls game except with infinitely more space between the actual "dungeons" and you can now summon a horse out of your asshole to ride to those locations. Subnautica is an open world game. Death Stranding is an open world game. Elden Ring is a dungeon crawler with a fucking massive space between the dungeons and it has no "mechanics" beyond equipping your character and dungeon crawling for more lore/loot by fighting everything that can be locked onto
The only impressive thing about this game (see: not revolutionary, I said impressive) is the sheer size of the map(s) and how they look, but thats all presentation. Its impressive to discover the secondary maps (which behave more like large dungeons) for the first time because even the initial overworld is gigantic but then again so is the fucking RDR2 map, thats not some leap forwards or new take on the genre. Elden Ring legitimately and I fucking hate to quote Michael, legitimately fucking brings nothing new to the table and thats so incredibly sad. Its babbys first fromsoft game, and based on the reception, outright babby zoomers first fucking open world or possibly even singleplayer videogame. Thats the only way to explain the emperors clothes reception to this

Do you really consider Elden Ring, Subnautica, Death Stranding and RDR2 in the same category of game? yeah it couldnt, or you havent even played those games. the entire point of death stranding is to conquer the constant obstacle (and micro obstacles in it) of the open space, to traverse it more efficiently. Subnautica does it even better because of how well it integrates players "skill" (its more mental in subnautica) limitations by forcing them out of their comfort zone which directly ties to the primary goals of the game on a mechanical level, and the ways it integrates all the survival and building mechanics into that goal (aka go deeper and deeper into the ocean until youre at the bottom where the solutions are). The open world in those games is the entire game whereas in Elden Ring its nothing but empty set dressing around the "real" gameplay, as literally proven by every single fucking other souls game that came before it which play the EXACT same but on a smaller scale
