I haven't beaten Far Cry 4 yet, and didn't try 5 though I own it. The third game was my favorite so far, along with Blood Dragon which is an 11/10 masterpiece that should have been made into a full game.
I'm sure 5 will be good. I like the setting and story idea.

To me the biggest fault is the forced capture bullshit that happens repeatedly once you've completed a certain number of quests in it. Luckily there are mods that can change the resistance points gain rate though.

Yeah same, I use the Resistance Mod and set it so I have to complete every side quest to get enough RP for it to trigger. Got sick of still having side quests left over in the area then it just triggers the boss fight.

i liked this. the game gave you a lot of freedom in how you play the game; the only required missions were those where you were captured. if you wanted to beat the game skipping all side quests and just blowing up convoys all day, you can do that
I always end up modding the game to stop it giving so many reputation points each mission, and it has spread out the forced kidnappings to a more acceptable pace.
I have managed to outlast the attempts a bunch of times too, though they can pop up out of nowhere after that.

The sixth hasn't appealed to me, though I wanted to love that Gus Fring was in it. What about it was bad? I'll probably give it a shot once I have nothing else to play and it's on a super sale. The games get such cheap sales that it's pretty easy to rationalize giving them a shot either way. New Dawn is another I'm not sure how I feel about trying, though I own it 'cause it came in a package.
it's the most game-y of the far crys. you can shoot someone in the head multiple times with a sniper rifle and they won't die because you didn't use the right ammo.

NTA but FC6 feels like a step backwards with the NPCs and companions, and the backpack special attack is poorly thought out.
It has a more of a rock, paper, scissors aspect to it with weapons and enemy types. You can shoot at unarmored enemies with an armor piercing round, but because they are unarmored, it's less effective.
They seem to have doubled down with it in the DLC too, so it's definitely something they intended.
I like the idea of having to do more to take down enemies, honestly. The other games were fun with their mechanics and will always remain great, but taking a chance at something new is laudable. Thanks for informing me. It looks like I'm going to get Far Cry 6 as well.

None of the factions really qualify as communists in any form. They are mostly about "liberty". First one is a farmer/land owner who got fricked by the game's fascist antagonist. You help them to get their lands back. Second one are zoomers that rap about revolution, but one of the leaders just wants to frick off from the country and gets mixed in with a human-trafficking sociopath criminal. They are the Twitter faction, but not really communist. Lastly there's the old school rebel geezers that stuck to living in the jungle, which come off more as comedy relief liberal geezers than anything ideological, and the chapter's theme is really more about tying up the generational gap.
Funniest part is that main character still idolizes USA and dreams of living there, but at every other point devs shit on USA and white people.

Far Cry 3 is peak early 2010's and I love it. Just give us a fricking remake already, it's not like they'll make anything as good.
All FC3 needs is the ability to fully disable the HUD and fix the fricking ambient occlusion. It has some of the worst AO you'll ever see and this was even noted at the time.

Loved FC3 Ziggy's mod, the extra gun options and more dangerous ballistics made the game far more interesting to me. But then he started removing arbitrary shit he deemed unrealistic and deleting old versions of his mod. I'm still mad about the removal of the gunslinger takedown. Leveling up to finally acquire Man With No Name quickdraw skills was so much fun.
self correction, it was apparently removed because some change he made to another skill caused issues. Still think he should have rolled back that change instead of completely removing base skills instead. At the very least keep old versions up

far cry 6 hardly had any supernatural shit, which was a shame because 3-5 had little hints here and there. 5 was ambiguous if Joseph Sneed actually heard the word of God but it seems to strongly suggest it
New Dawn - don't play it - heavily indicates he did hear the word of god but got the message wrong. This ties in with the ending of 5 where the Rook is actually the herald, not Joe.

i feel like i'm the only person that liked it. i can see how it being more of a looter-shooter than the mainline games would turn people off, but once you get your powers and some good weapons it can be fun. you can endlessly clear outposts too
Problem is to get enough resources you have to grind those "frick off to a die map and kill dudes" missions which kills the pacing. Plus the two dirt bike baddie girls are moustache twirling evil.

ALL of the ubisoft far cry games are best played on hardest difficulty, HUD off and going full rambo. Pick fights on your terms, fire and fade for maximum guerilla combat and popping heads to not waste ammo. naturally FC2 is the most refined of this but that makes the game chibi STALKER and normals hated that approach so 3 onwards are turbo moron proof. Still with the above options (thankfully often provided by ubisoft) the games can be wrangled to play in a manner the plot portrays.
