Aerith is flat out in denial that she's important to Zack even though in Crisis Core Aerith is the only thing Zack talks about because she's in denial of the fact that he's dead so she insists that Zack has to have had another girlfriend because otherwise she'd hand to second guess his disappearance.

Right now it's not really trending towards anyone, it's trending towards Cloud being mindbroken over Aerith's death so he either A. created a fake Aerith in his head becaue he can't deal, just like he could deal with Zack's death before or B. it's Jenova frickery. Strong emotions for Aerith are needed for that to work.

There's clearly two different reuninons.
One is the one Sephiroth is talking about - the reunion of worlds.
The other is the one Hojo and the black robes are talking about - the reunion of Jenova like in the OG.
The first reuinon already happened. That's what is happening during the last chapter of the game.

Because the game shows you time and time again that the flowers are important and it specifically pans over to flowers at the end where Zack is musing about timelines being remerged. The dialog is a fake out.
