If they don't give the new one its own achievements separate from BLU, then there needs to be some other reason to play it. Use this as an opportunity to let them do deep dungeons or criterion or adventuring forays

Basically the engine is shit. If you're at 60 fps you want 1.93 gcd. For anything else you want 1.94.
People say that controller is the reason why the GCD is 2.5, but I think this is just gigacope.

That's not how it works. You can't execute an action until the next frame is drawn after the cooldown ends. Since monk is so fast, losing 1/60 of a second on your GCD is a bigger impact than losing the same amount at 2.5, plus it just happens that 1.94 is the ideal monk SS, and that happens to be one of the specific GCD speeds that results in the longest possible frame clip at 60 FPS to the point where you're basically playing at 1.93 or 1.95 if your game runs at 60 FPS. At higher framerates it doesn't matter much. Alexander also has an option to delay drawing the last frame before your GCD comes up to bypass the issue.
FPS affects every job's GCD time because of some input to server response frickery, it's just that MNK is more susceptible to it because its base GCD is faster.

melee dps get little responsibilities even in ultimates but you should never frick your rotation up, in this way they're easy if you have good muscle memory
summoner is very easy to play but may be told to do more mechanics but that's fine because they don't need to focus on their rotation, they're easier in endgame if your memory for mechanics is good
if not going for endgame content just play warrior but learn what your cooldowns do please read the tooltip, i've had warriors not use vengeance in savage

Not in EW, every single instance where you'd want to use it the encounter was designed in a way to frick over holmgang. WAR also gets turbo fricked in ultimates, especially TOP, due to how much less mit it has compared to the other tanks.

What would a new tank even contribute at this point
At the rate at which the tanks have been homogenised and powercrept, how would a new tank design even fit into this increasingly rigid mold that streamers and their followers have set to make sure no tank does anything better than Warrior? How can we have fun and rewarding new tanks when all of them need to be strictly worse adaptations of the most basic, streamer's favourite tank?
The only tank that does anything different from Warrior is Paladin And all it does is protect an individual better than War can thanks to cover, but it rarely comes into play. Dark knight and Gnb used to be the dps tanks because they brought less defensive utility to the party. With that advantage removed, are they just going to turn into Warrior clones now? Because as a tank main i'm a little frustrated with the way the tanks are currently designed.

What did Gunbreaker and Dark knight bring? Damage. To make up for their weaker defensives and utility. But apparently we can't even have that. So what's the point of these tanks? Are they going to turn them even more into Warrior clones in the next expansion just to be safe? What would be the point of a new tank? What will be the point of any complexity? Where would a new tank fit in, in a role where 1 job, and the simplest one at that, does everything and is the best at everything? I'm going over every piece of content right now, and i find it hard to justify playing anything over Warrior. Normal content, extremes, savage or even ultimates. Warrior is the best solution to every problem. Why can't different tanks be good at different things? Was Warrior doing 3% less damage really that big of an issue when it already has so much going? I Just don't really see the point

And they don't even play the same. There's a split between WAR/DRK and GNB with PLD somewhere in between, and the DRKs very much think they're different (and get the short end of the stick) compared to WAR.
One could ask why ever add new DPS Jobs, but no one ever does, because DPS players are first class citizens and folks recognize that new Jobs are a nice thing to get for a role from time to time.

OP: Not everyone likes WAR's aesthetic or rotation. That's why. You're a DRK so you think all tanks are WAR clones because DRK has kind of become one. PLD and GNB aren't, and GNB in particular plays very differently than WAR with all the oGCD weaving, rigid rotation, and no upkeep buff (PLD doesn't have an upkeep buff, either).
Try some of the other tanks.
I feel like this is less a "Why even add more tank Jobs" thread and more a disgruntled DRK complaining about how DRK is a worse WAR...

It was prior Shadowbringers, actually. But yes, they did. From ARR through to Stormblood, they were pretty set on the notion of an "main" tank and "off" tank. They scrapped the whole thing because it caused players to lock specific tanks into those roles and caused several balancing problems. Both Dark Knight and Paladin wanted to MT due to having procs which triggered off auto attacks yet Paladin was straight bad at it, especially since their stances were on the GCD. Cover back then just made them a much better OT. Meanwhile, Warrior with Unchained was so hilariously good at MTing, you'd be crazy not to make them do it.
They pretty much acknowledged the system didn't work going into ShB. So there's zero chance they'll even consider bringing it back around.
WAR literally has the worst mitigation of all the tanks, the only saving grace is they moved it from 3rd/4th in damage up to second.
I will never forgive them for the Paladin rework.
The problem is fight design. There are very good offtank mechanics, but a lot of fights never utilize these:
- Splitting enemies (force the tanks to pull them apart)
- Double tank busters (and yes, some can be taken by a well shielded dps, but convenience makes a tank prefered)

Even for normal mode trials/raids tank swapping should become a mechanic:
Each 'special' attack (diffirently marked tank buster) adds a stack to a tank. Upon reaching x stacks, the affected tank will get ability blocked (while death can be punishing, losing control is equaly anoying. So silencing/hyseria/stuns all work). The stacks deplete over time (60s). This means that if a maintank disagrees and instantly takes it over, they will cause their own issues.
For these mechanics, you can also make shirking become stronger bassed on debuff stacks (making the maintank also capable of shirking the aggro away, but the offtank unable to instantly shirk it back). If a tank died, and the maintank gets disabled by this, aggro would still at least be effective for a while until the other tank provokes.
I think this would be at the same difficulty level as most healer checks, and with a very clear effect also turn into mussle memory quickly.
FFXIV need multiples jobs because :
-you need to exp them and gear them -> more playtime -> more subscription time -> more money for SE
-people see more different aesthetics -> more likely to be interested and subscribe -> more money for SE

Bold of you to assume DRK isn't already a WAR clone. It lacks the healing, but the gameplay loop is far more similar than anyone should be okay with.
The only thing we as a community really value is damage. Jobs with low damage are naturally going to be filtered out during the curation process of most groups. Leaving WAR's damage in the gutter would ultimately have left them in the same position as rez mage, if not worse. In fact, almost definitely worse - a tank's damage, not its sustain, is valued in progression. In other words, gimping damage as a tax for some form of utility, sustain in WAR's case, will only result in that job being excluded. WAR was the "dungeon tank" before its damage caught up, and it will again be relegated to that when its damage inevitably gets hamstrung again.
I would much rather see DRK's self-sustain (and only its self-sustain; its party utility should remain untouched) raised to equal or slightly exceed GNB's. A nudge to its sustain would go well toward equalizing things since it already has incredibly powerful mitigation tools.
It's fine for tanks to have similar defensive and sustain tools so long as their offensive kit isn't too similar. Problem is, everything is so homogenized at this point that one can scarcely argue the offensive kits are much different. We've got a bit of a self-perpetuating cycle, I think. People won't play/recruit jobs with low damage output --> SE improves those jobs --> people complain about X thing being unfair because X can do Y when Z can't --> SE hands out some nerfs (or sometimes not) --> people begin favoring the jobs they snubbed before --> repeat ad infinitum.

I can agree with most of this, but I do think making Bloodwhetting heal once per GCD is excessive. Having it heal per hit mostly affects dungeons, which are already inconsequential content.
Its also an overwhelming majority of content that healers are already powercrept out of, only kept in because the duty finder forces it.

One expac one tank will get thing, next expac they'll all get that. I would not be surpirsed at all if 7.0 gives DRK and GNB their own bloodwhettings or aoe heals.
Alternatively we could just push it further and delete the healer role entirely which I'd be fine with.

I had way more fun healing in synced Coils last year than any EW content because I had way less oGCD tools and I had to use shit like Cure II and sometimes even Cure I to manage mp

This thread wants to dehomogenize where homogenization has happened because the 1% complained until they went that direction, the direction to make jobs basically play the same (to make them easier to balance). So making another of the same would just result in a different flavor of the same thing. (Although having played all jobs now, healers are the ones where this has affected the most. But it is indeed prevalent throughout all jobs on various levels and degrees.)
Although I agree aesthetics to a job are important but they shouldn't be the only defining factor for a job.
Honestly they need to take a book out of PvP here and just make every job broken in one aspect. Get some identity.

First and foremost, OP, you really need to let go of this vendetta you have towards Warrior. It's not nearly the supposed god you keep insisting it is. Especially when you consider it was thoroughly outclassed for almost two full expansions.

Shake it Off is not the best partywide mitigation. In fact, the whole reason they added the regen effect is due to mechanics like Styx rendering it completely inferior to straight mitigation. On the whole it's situational which is better but Paladin wins in this category by virtue of having two options. Don't get me wrong, Shake is very strong but it's not necessarily better than Missionary or Light.

Holmgang is incredible. There really is no denying that. I'd argue new Living Dead is very nearly on par with it though because the Dark Knight doesn't have to invest additional resources to heal themselves. They just... do damage. The difference of 60 seconds is borderline irrelevant since nearly all planned usages will align with both, though there are some exceptions (Dragonsong comes to mind). Nonetheless, the devs have notoriously overvalued Hallowed Ground. They seem to think being invulnerable is somehow better than being unkillable. Such situations where that is true are so niche they aren't worth mentioning.

No argument here. Warrior's sustain is absurd. Although, said sustain gets grossly overrated by far too many people who see it essentially becoming its own healer in dungeons and think it can perform those feats in Savage. Contrary to popular belief, Bloodwhetting is straight up worse than Corundum in a single target scenario, and while Dark Knight can't match either one for one, being able to consistently stack TBN + Oblation + Dark Mind absolutely schools both for raw mitigation potential. Speaking of which, Dark Knight has better overall mitigation than Warrior for this very reason while Gunbreaker kind of floats between both. Paladin still gets the raw end of the stick here if only because its sustain option is a damage loss.

The irony is Dark Knight is still the meta pick because it bursts so incredibly well. Go look up any parse or speed group and you'll find they overwhelmingly still favor Dark Knight—to the point of occasionally bringing two. This has been the fundamental problem with balancing tanks the last two expansions. Dark Knight plays so ridiculously well under raid buffs that when it also boasted the highest damage profile alongside the best mitigation suite, well... there wasn't a reason to play anything else. For all your insistence of Warrior being the god king super tank, Dark Knight towered over so aggressively in both Dragonsong and Omega as to double up it up in clear rates when both were current. In fact, Dark Knight's raw burst potential was so oppressive it saw more clears of TOP than every other tank combined throughout 6.3.
It wasn't just good, it was downright incredible. At one point in time, if you aren't running Ninja, you'd Dance Partner a Dark Knight in the opener than switch to Samurai.
This is the first and only tier Warrior has even entered the conversation since Shaowerbringers. So while I agree general tank gameplay is relatively stale. Let's dial back the notion "everything is a Warrior clone cause Warrior's best!!"
drk is good at downtime phases and in an optimized comp, you want sch drg, ast to buff its damage during the 2 mins

Fun part is, the dps they added is in the same boat. It looks just like reaper but with two daggers. Aesthetically different, mechanically similar. 123, fill gauge, do cool looking burst only this time it's blue.
And it's even worse for healers, because our damage dealing kit is so stripped down at this point that every healer is just "1 dps button 1 dot and then a bunch of healing spells that are way overtuned for 95% of the game that isn't hard raids."
In order to address -any- of this, the devs would have to take an actual risk in changing things up. Since risks are dangerous and people eat up "nEw" classes that are just reskins of existing content anyway, we will probably never see any deviation in this regard. "Please look forward to it!"
They could have simply done away with job stones and tied your abilities to the weapon. this is what happens with the dev lacks foresight also a skill they took away. BUt this is the result of lowering the skill ceiling on essentially all jobs and we get what we have homogenization.

I think FFXIV dev team should learn more from WoW on how to design tanks and make them feel and play uniquely than each other. So far WoW has:
- A tank that relies on and increases both the "Armor" and "Block" values. Basically the tankist of tanks
- A tank with healing and supportive spells that is our FFXIV Paladin equivalent. Perfect for all situations
- A tank that turns the damage received into DoTs that are delayed or negated. Great for massive pulls.
- A self-healing tank that is our FFXIV Warrior equivalent
If we simply analyze WoW's tanks' design, then we can find that they share a common but obvious theme. "Survival" but in a different way for different situations.
We could follow a similar mindset when designing and reworking how tanks function here in XIV. For example;
Paladin: A tank with support spells such as group mitigation, group shield, with some healing spells that could turn him into a demi-healer when the situation demands it. Perfect when the healers aren't very reliable or not there but isn't good enough to replace them. Damage is slightly below moderate and armor is slightly above moderate (We can't forget it's the only tank with a protective shield, so armor value being moderate or less is ridiculous)
Warrior: The self-healing tank we all know and love, but with less than moderate damage and armor.
Dark knight: The tank dps. High dps but moderate armor (Dark knights wear full metal clad armors, so they should have more armor value than warriors RPG-wise). Great pick for people who want to feel the weight of the greatsword but on the account of being the least tank to be able to survive due to the focus on dps. Basically hardcore tank
Gunbreaker: Parry tank. Second highest tank dps but the least with armor value. However, gunbreaker rely on high parry rate to avoid getting damaged in the first place.
I understand the proposal I made is not great, but I tried to re-purpose all tanks in FFXIV without making them feel totally different, because if I had the option to erase them and re-build them from scratch, then I'd have went with different tank jobs and mechanics that are similar in design to that of WoW and some old-school MMOs.
Unfortunately, WoW's design only works because the devs pretty much don't care if a handful of classes become unviable for a tier. Not to mention, it's common for both tanks and healers to be rotated out entirely once their relevance is no longer necessary. Both are things FF intentionally aims to avoid. This makes it significantly harder for any one job to stand out individually because it becomes a nightmare to balance. Case in point, if Paladin were group oriented but the upcoming raid tier or Ultimate ficused predominantly on single target damage, it's essentially a dead job because all it brings at that point is "below moderate" damage. Likewise, the way tank busters work in FF, a pure sustain tank simply can't work. Unmitigated busters deal upwards of 200k or more. Even with echo, Warrior can't reach that amount of raw healing. In fact, they actually intended for this when ARR first launched. Warrior had very little mitigation. It was so bad, people were bringing two Paladins. Hence why they got a complete rework to their mit suite to the basis of what we see today.
I don't want to say they can't do anything to better diversify jobs but it will virtually guarantee some degree of imbalance. Which means the community needs to accept their favourite job might be turned away for a tier or two if we ever go down that road. Sure, you could argue people shouldn't do that and "all jobs would still be able to clear. So it doesn't matter!" Said community has proven time and again that isn't how it will play out.
And how realistic is it exactly for the average, or even above average player to even get any value out of Dark knight that you wouldn't already get out of Warrior but better?
Let's look at this static i've been playing with casually shall we? We have a machinist, uh oh! I'm missing out on crucial party buffs and so now i'm already better off playing Warrior even if i play perfectly.
Maybe there's casual content where i can get value out of Dark kni- nope. Warrior beats it at every piece of casual content. Old ultimates? Dark knight does less damage and doesn't even get a partywide.
I'm beyond annoyed with Warrior's current state in the game. It leaves so little space for my favourite job to be good anywhere else besides the microscopically small community of people doing speedkills.. And even there, under the perfect conditions, you hardly even get anything out of it. Meanwhile i have to feel bad for taking my job into any piece of content because it's just strictly worse than warrior. I don't play under the perfect buff window, in a group of perfect players. WoW does the diversity of tanking styles with both offensive and defensive kits quite well, actually. The biggest block is light vs. medium vs. heavy armor, which won't work with how ffxiv is designed.
WoW has more variety across all of its roles, and more types of gameplay, period. The drawback is that you don't get the <1% esports balance that FFXIV players think mmos need.
There's a lot of good that FFXIV could take from WOW. Just like the opposite is just as true.
MMOs as a whole are kinda in a bad spot in recent years. Why not try to help each other out instead of just "WOW bad, FFXIV good"

WoW has some interesting class designs even if the game balance is horrible for some one them. This genre learns from itself and copies from each other all the time. Hell, when they were developing ARR, Yoshi told his devteam to go and look at what other MMOs were doing. He even famously told them to go play other popular MMOs at the time, including WoW.

I don't think Ishikawa understood Ilberd's character. I mean, how could she? He was written by a man, to be understood by men. the whole thing should have been a callback to the EW content itself, with all the characters that recently died in torment of some sort you have an obvious structure to help resolve their suffering and could have Minfilia/Papalymo/Moenbryda's souls help guide them to the sea after you beat the shit out of them.
You should have had a section of EW garleans (the final boss being quintus cinna), a section of thavnair people who died without being turned (the final boss being an anguished Mehvan), and then the 3rd section you go much deeper into an amaurot final days section, with unresting ascians surrounding Hydaelyn (mirroring the situation around Zodiark's prison). Shit writes itself basically.

Okay, I may or may not have watched the trailer one too many times, but I think I found a female Hrothgar in it.
At first, I wasn't sure if it was a Hrothgar or a Mamool Ja so I compared them and the Mamool Ja doesn't have ears, so I thought it might be a Miquo'te, but they don't have that ear shape and she stands almost as tall as the Mamoolja around her which is WAAY taller than a Miquo'te. So I think they either forgot to take it out or left it in thinking that no one would see it. What do you think?

The details are pretty hard to make out, but the general shape seems pretty clear to me. It still has a muzzle and resembles a feline, but it is smaller.

She was cared for and taught by a few older Hrothgar who served under their previous queens. Now, with the liberation of Bozja and her newly found freedom from the Garlean oppression, she strives to make Bozja a home again for her people. Though lacking in experience she more than makes up for it in spirit! (This is one of my newest short characters, hope you enjoyed her! I am trying to keep myself busy and these short stories help a lot! ^^)

Mira and Branka are viable female Hrothgar names. and from what is shown you can already pick your female Hrothgar name, you can go into the Character creation, go either lost or helion and randomise surnames, and based on the name you get you can either choose to keep or remove the suffix "sch" or the prefix "a" and there you go. You can have that name for either clan cause fur colour has nothing to do with it.
2. A majority of the Lost are members of one of the 1 clan whose queen died and had that specific fur colour. Fur colour doesn't matter, you can be a blue Helion or an electric yellow Lost. The fur colour of the mother seems to be the main DNA passed down to her children.
3. All Hrothgar are kin, doesn't matter what status you are. Which we have seen in Bozja. :3
4. Females can choose to either not become queens or serve a queen. (Lesbians let's goo!!)
5. There doesn't seem to be an inverse Viera situation here, since, while rare, the females do seem to be there. The reason we do not see them seems to be because of the Bozjan incident rather than their birth rate. Aka they were casualties since we also see a smaller number of males as well.
6. The point about males being physically stronger is still there, which might mean that they will not be muscular, or they are strong in a different way like assassination. But that is me holding hope for some abs ;_;
7. Hrothgar's fluff seems to be good at insulating cold and it doesn't seem to be gender exclusive, so the females might get some fur patches like the males! I hope they will have similar designs while keeping in mind their more feminine body ^^
8. A majority of the Hrothgar we both met and will probably meet is of the Lost since Helions don't usually strike out on their own. But not impossible

I wanted to draw some possible hairstyles for Female Hrothgar. This is just speculation, but I found it fun and thought about sharing it! Feel free to add anything to these and make suggestions. The hairstyles are inspired by: Nordic women, Grece women, Cleopatra's hairstyle, some that I thought looked nice on the internet, some that have a tiara (to show a royalty status), the last 3 are inspired by both the female Ronso NPCs and a reimagined/simplified version of the gender-bend Khimari from FFX and of course a "bald" version as depicted in the Bozjan Murals.

The thing that really bothers me about Hrothgar lore is that I want my character to be a Queen (she was a handmaiden before becoming an adventurer), but for that she has to be a Helion cause The Lost do not have Queens. But the Lost have the blue fur colour and all Queens and handmaidens are depicted blue, so now I don't know what to do...
I want my blue girl, but becoming Lost would mess with her backstory...

I had a very weird dream today. I dreamed that I was at the fan fest, it was the opening of the show and the devs were coming to the stage, I could notice that Yoshi was wearing a T-shirt with that old Disney movie: "The Cheetah girls". I asked out loud if this meant that they were going to show Female Hrothgar by the end.
Well it did, they showed the new job (a caster that controlled crystals) and then they showed a trailer of them. They looked like a combination of the Queen from the art book and that art drawn by one of FFXIV artists. While it was not exactley what I wanted, I really liked the result. I will try to make a fan art depiction of what I saw.
Just to clarify: the body was exactley like that of the queen in the artbook and the head was just like the art (the white queen lioness one). And yes, ankle lenght tails!

I played SoP, I just think the battle themes he did are lacking compared to the other battle themes in the game. I think the best battle themes he's done are in XIII-2, he just doesn't really go for that style very often. He makes more subdued tracks which make for beautiful area BGMs.
