They both date back to 2019. I built this rig in 2020 during covid lockdown and all PC components started getting marked up like crazy.
I do think that if I change GPU I'm going back to nVidia.
I honestly don't think I'll need reshade anymore. I was only using it for the LUTs to get rid of green filter really anyway.
I might phase out most of my shaders aswell, to be honest. I started using them because FFXIV looks extremely washed out, but the benchmark trailer makes me think the graphics upgrade will make the game more colorful. We'll see.
benchmark still looks really washed out. the evening scenes are the same faded orange tone, the vegetation on the overworld battle scene looks muted too. the only scene that looked ok was the dungeon
try changing your gamma settings, and compare with the same shader (or lack of shader) as retail
I got results similar to yours and then I added my reshade shaders to the benchmark and it was even worse.
Unfortunately I am too broke to fix my PC so I'll just have to play Dawntrail with bad framerate. Oh well!

Go back and look at 1.0 it had completely open cities, it was still just as bad if not worse than what we have currently.
1.0 also had copy-pasted corridors as zones. I'm just saying there's no reason why cities cannot be singular areas.
They'd probably have to redo hundreds of quests if they ever wanted to make the starting cities a single zone.

Yeah. The CC’s lighting can make the faces look drastically different. But in the real-time benchmark itself it looked fine.
You could make it look.... OK in the benchmark CC as well. Definitely not as good as it should be. Most of it created piss yellow shadows and all-around the lighting and shadow-quality was just horrendous. As I surmised, it really was just that they straight up put the old (current live) character creator in there, even though that one was made to work with the old models and shaders.
Not only should the lighting be fixed in the new benchmark, but the environment itself should reflect the graphical update as well.

I want to get excited for Viper and Pictomancer, but Reaper and Sage were such by-the-numbers jobs that I no longer expect anything interesting.
The datamined new move leaks are funny to me. They're moving away from DRK being a WAR clone so it can be a GNB clone instead.
Granted, GNB is a much more interesting class to copy, but DRK truly can't have its own identity anymore.

I don't think it will necessarily translate to job changes and not just fight design but Yoshida did comment about the gameplay being braindead in EW and that adding back some stress was a goal. I don't think there is much left to sand down with jobs and hope(cope) that they wouldn't go further if they understand that the gameplay has become snore-inducing.

Unfortunately even for classes with branching combos you don't make decisions. You pick the combo branch following a pre-determined logic (to refresh a buff, for example) and don't actually engage in decision-making.

Ah sage. Outside of zoe/krasis/soteria (all of which are increase heal) all buttons are some combination of heal/shield/nun that have no interactions with its own kit. The dps heal is basically an afterthought tacked on that barely does much. They should've gone harder into having the gameplay be about managing kardia
Sage was literally created for shitters too dumb for sch cooldowns or whm lillies and burst alignment. Addersgall is literally lilies but starting full and ogcds so there is no element of management.
And it's still the best designed and most fun of the healers.

Sage benefits from being designed for modern content. All the other healers have so much baggage and redesigns that they lack fluidity now.
Sage is a great modernization of Scholar with a much better aesthetic lifted from Psychic in FFX-2 and how it handles stacks isn't beholden to the inherent moronation of the Aetherflow/Energy Drain system, calling that "resource management" is more than a little glorifying to it

I played AST in Shadowbringers and loved it but then they removed the decisions of the cards and somehow gave the job a healing rotation (lol).
I've heard this, but also that it sucks real bad to play in synced stuff. Main reason I quit was how boring the majority of the content was, which largely comes down to how jobs play for the repetitive content. I'm already going to keep an eye on the BLM at the next LL; I heard it's getting changes and I'm worried it's next on the neuter list.
Every class sucks in synced content. There are very few classes that are enjoyable to play below 70. But I agree that blm is one of the worst when you get synced down. Yes they denote a skill being upgraded into a new one or being replaced by another skill when certain conditions are met, the actual "type" denotes *how* the skill is changed. "Type 3" for example means it's an upgraded skill provided by a trait, type 2 and type 7 means it changes when under a certain status effect like tank stances or Draconian Fire

That the environments were old. The foliage, ground textures, assets like buildings, were all as they are on live, and so probably the same applied to the lighting (and voila, it did), which was designed around the old models and don't play nice with the new ones, which use entirely different shaders.

dungeons. the highest level dungeon you can do that isn't divisible by tens (skip the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s dungeons)
Roulettes and wonderous tales are a good way to do it but these are limited daily/weekly. Once you run out of those then the only efficient way left is running dungeons of your level back to back

We know some textures are lower quality than intended, which is probably why the freckles and marks around the eyes still look so blurry. Lighting for the actual benchmark part is the proper new lighting, though. The actual character creation lighting is the old, broken stuff.

There's a very slim hope that some of the post-creation unlockable hairstyles have already been adapted to them, but the fact that they repeated face/hair locking does not bode well.
It's baffling really, and the only reason I can see them do this AGAIN after male Hrothgar is if from the beginning, default racial hairstyles have used a different data integer from the later unlocked hairstyles, and Hrothgar are using up so many other toggles of the original character data integer with their unique headparts/fang length etc. that there's only room for 4 hairstyles per head.
If that's true, then the character data issue has been far worse than anyone ever thought it was in the backend and this game simply isn't going to survive another 10 years without a full rebuild and data migration of that backend.

The Benchmark is an old build that doesn't reflect what they currently have. All theyre doing is updating the benchmark to the more current version not recreating it from scratch. They're not delaying the main game.

we don't have a SINGLE job among the 20 or so in XIV that has DoT interactivity, that's not a failure of DoTs as a mechanic, that's a frick up on the part of the devs, you have to be genuinely untalented to make DoTs have NO interactivity with a classes kit, which is funny, because they used to in this very game

SMN used to have lots of DoTs and abilities that interacted with the kit, like Fester and Contagion, all of it was removed, BRD used to have a lot of DoT interactivity, again, all of it removed

My idea for a DoT job was a job that tags an enemy with their DoTs, then 10-15 seconds later the buttons light back up and you get to turn them into big explosions or poison or whatever.
This is dot compatability that would make it interesting.

No, there really isn’t that many “do perfectly or everyone dies” mechanics. Usually 1 per extreme, lots of “do or your partner dies” on savage, but there is plenty of mechanics that were survivable with a skilled healer.

For example: you can survive p10s turrets if you miss a tower, you can survive silkspit with only one platform, etc. People are dps brained so they usually give up and die to emergent situations.

FFXIV healers are damage dealers by lore, and by design prior to shadowbringers. Currently all 4 are homogenised to have the WHM rotation, we just want them to have some more flavour again like they used to.
Since you don't even do extremes, giving healers an extra 3 damage buttons each would have no effect on your gameplay experience, so you don't need to defend SE's honour on this matter.

FFXIV was at its best when its healer design accepted that FFXIV healers are DPS hybrids.
XIV just needs more kit interactivity between healing and damaging and ways for heals to interact with eachel other to help make it more interesting.

Yes, it's just less meaningful now since you can often slidecast around and you get weave windows for free always.
but if you made that change then wouldn't people just play astro for buffs + mobility? afterall interrupting casts and not being able to move is a dps loss which is what matters in current encounter design

Dungeons weren't faster when healers had more buttons.
I think the issue is that you really do just spam 1 attack for 95% of the VAST majority of encounters
healers are encouraged to not use any of their GCD heals if they can help it, so that just leads to more spam
if I had to use my GCDs to heal more frequently, 1 button for dps might be fine, but I don't, if I don't have to heal much, give me more to do for damage, for all content that isn't savage/ultimate, I get bored a minute in

Ok, let me try. No one wants a combo, that's a melee/tank thing really. Healers want things like:
SCH used to have multiple dots to manage, and a way to spread those dots. It also had Miasma II which cost like 2k mana and was cast within melee range so you had to decide whether you could afford to spend the mana.
WHM used to have to work for weave windows and movement a little bit . You could expand on this with BLM-style tools like Xenoglossy and Triplecast which would be fun and valuable if it still had 2.5s cast times instead of 1.5s.
SGE has a unique and fun button called Eukrasia which augments your other GCDs. But there's no Eukrasian version of Toxicon, Phlegma or Dyskrasia. It is advertised as "a healer who heals by doing damage" but there's very little interaction between the damage and the healing kit. You can think of all sorts of fun ideas for heals giving gauge or proccing counter moves etc, in fact some examples already exist on non-healer jobs.

I don't think people are fixated on specifically what they want more of but they just want more to do in general. Whether that's more involved healing or more damage/buffing is irrelevant. In the majority of content you only spam one button and it's boring. The game isn't just ultimates and other roles have stuff to do that isn't spamming one button even in their current dumbed down states.
I think that healers should have varying levels of difficulty and not all have similar "rotations" and abilities 🙂
