The game is not perfect by a long shot, but goddamn was it a helluva ride.
The chadley shit was a slog. The green story quests were fine imo, as they developed the characters a bit.
Don't bother. In fact, I'm glad they let us know Remake data only gave bonuses and not file save transfer, so I know I don't have to put too much time into end game content for Rebirth either. Outside of checking for an old save, Part 3 probably won't transfer the save over either.

They do not. No. So if you power leveled your characters and materia in remake, you wasted your time.
However, the DLC/Bonus menu under "system" in the rebirth menu gives you some bonus items and materia for the following:
1. Having a Remake Save
2. Having an Intergrade Save
3. Having a Rebirth Demo Save (also lets you skip the Nibelheim segment partway through if you beat it in the demo).
Which sucks the data doesn't really carry over, but it's also a bit liberating to know I don't really have to 100% rebirth and just finish the story.

Combat and abilities are very much rebalanced. MP is actually more of a resource now.

But then that went out the window, and Nomura also really wanted to use the Tifa design he made, so they then decided on a love triangle.

This game has had some pretty crazy development history and there are a hundred different ways it could have gone.
Honestly if they were going to do a remake but not a remake, in hindsight, it would have been cool if they just did a retelling using a bunch of elements from early OG game production that never made it past the cutting room floor. Then the original game remains untouched, and you still get the same basic premise, but everything is new and different while also being familiar.

Aerith lost all of those memories when the whispers took them in Shinra tower. She doesn't gain them back until after the Temple of the Ancients when Cloud hops into the dream date timeline where the white materia still has all of her happy memories inside. Shortly after this, Aerith is killed again.
So while she could use the lifestream to find out about the real Cloud, she still hasn't MET the real Cloud. The real Cloud is still buried under false memories and Jenova's influence.

Rebirth is harder to pin down. I suppose he realized killing one timeline branch means little, so he wants to merge them all, and kill everyone, everywhere, forever, but it seems more petty now. Like his mistreatment and ostracization as a child (as shown in ever crisis) is making him like a dark parallels to Cloud's lonerism.

There's a character who was in Ever Crisis, but honestly, Ever Crisis really doesn't go over anything of importance at the moment. If you played it, it really doesn't give youi any insight into the Glenn character as he plays out in Rebirth at all.

Aerith is almost guaranteed to show up in the lifestream segment. They've tied her death and burial scene to Cloud's mental state so that it's something he has to deal with just like with the truth of the nibelheim incident. And it's something only Aerith herself can really help with, Tifa can't do it.
The devs said pretty plainly they wanted to keep Aerith and Tifa scenes equal, which is why they added a bunch of new Tifa scenes in Remake and Rebirth where Aerith was the main focus in the OG, and now that we're getting to the point where Tifa is the focus we're going to see the other side of that and get new Aerith scenes.

None of what Rebirth is doing to the story is that out of place. Plus we don't even know anything till part 3 explains Sephiroths ultimate goals and what he's really trying to accomplish here.
The problem with the whole alternate timeline shit isn't that it isn't consistent with VII's lore, it's that it's confusing and cheapens the ending of the game.
In the original, Aerith's death is sudden and poignant. In Rebirth it's convoluted and drawn out. Sephiroth being a timelord doesn't make him more interesting as a character. He's still just an evil edgelord with very basic motivations.

You have a series of timelines that split off from the lifestream itself.
The timelines are not infinite, as the lifestream can only sustain so many before the lifestream reclaims what little Mako it needed to form that timeline in the first place.
This is why when we get to the Biggs and Zack scene, the planet has no mako left and it's doomed, despite the exact same point in time in the main timeline still having plenty of lifestream left. This is also why Sephiroth and Aerith can travel between them. Because they're all linked by one lifestream.

This scene explain the SOLDIER well, he's moving fast enough to side step bullets from them. It also make Barret fear of Cloud snapping really have a meaning, normal people can't stop a SOLDIER tier guy ,and even the pos-Hojo Cloud is closer to what they did to Sephiroth than the normal ones.
