Indie always referred to small, unaffiliated, groups that churned out unrefined products. Self publishing alone was never what constituted being considered "indie". It follows the same generalizations as indie music and films. Going by this dumb frick logic Rockstar is indie, and so is Nintendo. So then you should be asking why TotK didn't get nominated for that same award.

Horrible coping mechanism. Stop posting. Not only are you moronic for saying they're small, you're trying to compare a single studio to a full blown corporation like Microsoft and Sony. Both of those companies are not just video game companies.

I'm not going to bother replying to you again after this because you're a fricking moron. But no, they are not. Larian is a European company. According to European regulations, any company that has 250 employees is, categorically, considered a medium sized enterprise, and Larian has over 450 employees. They are, factually, not a "small company". You're trying to call Larian an SME when anyone with a fricking brain would know you're a moron tor claiming this.

Your dumbfrick logic hinges on the belief that "small is comparative" which makes no sense because following this logic, everything is small because something bigger exists. You would argue that 1 billion is a small number because 2 billion is bigger. A Hatchback whale is bigger than an Elephant, but no one with an IQ above 80 is going to call an elephant a small mammal.

                Shut the frick up, dumbass.

Indie does not literally mean independant, it's more complex than that.
because by that logic, M$ is indie.
After all, who do they depend on?

Indie literally means independent. Literally and metaphorically.
The "correct" definition is "no publishers", but it should also include no major investors, no big govt grants, no stocks/stockholders or anything like that.
Larian is absolutely NOT indie, they've got too many outside investors like that guy with the copypasta image always says, not just Tencent. Plus, even by the "wacky Twitter leftie NPC" standards, they've got WAY too much money and too many employees to be indie, they'd get lumped under the "evil 1% bad guy" label if it wasn't for how sex-positive BG3 is and how many diversity points Larian earned in the character creation.

Another dev that kept getting the "indie dev" title was the guy that made Stardew Valley, but that case was always a bit of a gray area because he USED to be published by Chucklefish, but he separated from them a few years back and now he's technically indie... but most of the game's funding and development was overseen by Chucklefish, so IDFK.

Either way, the "it's indie" defense gets a bit tossed around as a defense pretty often, Zenith VR, a VRMMO that ended up being complete ass, it had this really ravenous fanbase for a while where it could do no wrong and that it was the perfect MMO and whatever else, but a lot of the defenders kept talking about how it's indie and any negatives (haha there aren't any) were a result of it being a small studio funded by Kickstarter (Just ignore the millions of dollars the game got from grants and donations from various companies funding VR endeavors.)
Actually, frick, this happens a lot with VR games, Legendary Tales had it too.

so Valve is an indie company?

                Anonymous

Honestly, kinda, but they're also technically publishing themselves whenever they make a game since they own the storefront and any/all advertising on it, so it's another bit of a gray area.
They don't really develop too many games though, so it doesn't come up much.
I guess my final verdict for Valve is that they could go either way depending on your definition of indie, I personally lean them a bit away from the label, though.

                >best game community: baldurs gate 3
how the frick do you even judge that metric

My guess is that they consider all the chatter about which companions are best to be gay with as "best", so they won there, though I don't know what the other nominees are, so take this observation with a grain of salt.

I honestly enjoyed the characters and story more in this game than in BG3. Was a great breath of fresh air and is very poignant. BG3 definitely isn't bad but I wish these award shows were made by people who actually play games because STASIS Bone Totem is genuinely great and deserves more recognition and in my personal opinion has a better narrative than BG3.

      I loved ff16 and re4r
Ff16 shouldnt have been PS5 exclusive

If they were absolutely 100% accurate, FF16 wins because RE4R is on PC but it seems like this list gives PC a pass because BG3 won the PC award and it's multiplat.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S

Yes. It is on everything but switch.

And its not on switch because switch cant handle it but it would have been on switch 2 too, hell re4r complete edition will likely be one of the first announcements for switch 2

With this I'm not saying ff16 would have been, its too flawed for that, but that it killed its momentum and lost like 70% of potentian costumers is a given

    >2023 might actually give us "Zelda lost" and "Spiderman lost"
And I thought 2022 giving us "God of War lost" was spicy.
