            Color scheme, for the curious.

I like to pretend it's a souped up piece of industrial equipment

Made a blue mech with machine gun, blade, missiles and a cannon in every single gen, except 5. Had to kinda get creative there.

I love seeing the liveries people come up with for their mecha. I was using this for my lance up until recently where I switched to using a mix of camo tailored to the environment of the planet I was landing on, with bright blue IFF stripes.

The most moronic thing about chicken walker mechs (especially with massive wienerpits like the madcat or catapult) is that realistically they'd basically just be food for anyone in battle armor with battle claws. A single elemental could probably just jumpjet from a madcat's side or rear, climb over to the wienerpit, rip it open like tissue paper, and then turn the pilot into red paste.

            Anonymous

In large scale combat operations, elementals would have to fight regular infantry that supports mechs. It's not that easy, but elementals are very dangerous in the lore which is why they are used in the first place.

Except 5.45 and 5.56 replace 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 as standard rounds, dumbo.

Smaller rounds + volumes of fire means everything.
        >And again, you're completely ignoring the real argument, tank and artillery gun power and weight levels go like this: 155m > 120mm >>> 105mm. You're a dumb corecel who knows literally nothing.
And how many tanks are there compared to IFV?
A goddamn 120mm cannon tank can be taken by down by 10kg drone carrying explosive.

Both 5.45mm and 7.62mm are used in obscene quantities by many armies in the world, nothing is really "replaced".

        >Smaller rounds + volumes of fire means everything.
Kek, you dumb fricking moron. Smaller rounds of lower mass lose energy quicker than heavier rounds specifically designed for long distance shooting with optimized length/diameter ratio and mass. It's why all sniper rounds are full rifle rounds and not low impulse ones like 5mm.

Low velocity heavier rounds like 9x39mm and 7.62x39mm or the US Blackout round have shorter ranges than the lighter 5mm rounds, but they have much better after-barrier performance.

All of these rounds are used in different situations by different types of troops. So no, "Smaller rounds + volumes of fire" is not "everything." In fact, it is precisely nothing when it can't penetrate armor and lighter 5mm rounds do not better as well as the heavier 7.62mm and above rifle rounds.

The rest of your post has nothing to do with the argument it's just nonsensical corecel ramblings. The fact of the matter is that most corecel """weapons""" are pathetic peashooters with absolutely ridiculously short ranges which just shows that they're massively underpowered in terms of powder charge.

That's the point though, we could theoretically build stuff that's kinda similar to the garbage you see in mechwarrior but nobody does because it's an inherently moronic idea. It's like a modern milsim setting where everyone suddenly decides to go back to fighting with swords for some contrived reasons. It's just dumb and unrealistic. An AC however makes conceptually sense, it's basically a mix between combat helicopter and tank, so it'd be incredibly useful for CAS missions.

in ACLR, you can lose your head, arms, your core can get trashed and your legs can get trashed too... but long as you still have AP, you can fight.

In MW, if you lose both of your legs, you're dead. If you lose your center torso, you're dead. If you get hit in the wienerpit and roll a 1, you're dead. This is why Urbie is the best, you can't get hit.

Kek, is that why marines preferred AKs in Iraq urban combat where after-barrier penetration performance of the booleet was more important than the range or controllability of burst fire? You do understand that both weapons use different cartridges that have their own pros and cons? The AK74 which fires 5.45 is still heavier than AR15, MW anon. And the russians are trying to make the AK-12 lighter with more plastic or polymer parts.

They use both 5.45mm and 7.62mm AKs, morono. The 7.62mm cartridge is significantly heavier than the 5.45mm or 5.56mm one, yet it's still one of the most widely used cartridges in the world, because it has very good performance AFTER it penetrates a barrier, unlike a lighter bullet. Dumb corecel.

                Anonymous

No, while AK-12 and AK74 have some 7.62x39 variant, the standardized version uses 5.45.

If the russians want heavy round that hit further, they use 7.62x54r.

                You sound like some /k/ucks.

                Anonymous

All of the rounds you've mentioned have different tactical niches. 7.62x54R is too heavy to be used in assault rifles, but the lightweight 5mm cartridges suffer from decreased after-barrier penetration performance, which is where 7.62x39mm comes in. It has been used by recon units who love fighting in the forest and not even the 9x39mm round managed to replace it.

And again, you're completely ignoring the real argument, tank and artillery gun power and weight levels go like this: 155m > 120mm >>> 105mm. You're a dumb corecel who knows literally nothing.

I think small arms are in a sense similar to mechs
irrelevant if you're fighting in open fields, very useful if fighting in cities or jungles/forests and mountains
and even then, spending more resources on better arty will always be preferable than having cutting edge assault rifles or whatever

that's not true, there's just been barely any small arms advancements in the past 80 years compared to magnitudes more effective to completely game changing in vehicles, electronics etc.

7.62x39mm tends to overpenetrate and not cause any real damage to targets because of that. 5.45x39mm tends to yaw and tumble when it hits a target, causing massive internal damage that's more likely to kill them in one actual shot.
5.45 wasn't chosen because it could kill better, it was chosen because it was an easier round to use. Less recoil, flatter and generally better accuracy. 7.62 gets used too because they shat out billions of cartridges since 1947.

                >7.62x39mm tends to overpenetrate
I'm talking about after-barrier penetration performance. 7.62mm will perform better against soft targets after it punches through a brick or clay wall which is why it was used by US soldiers in Iraq urban combat.

        It helps discussion.

I'm replaying AC3 right now and energy guns and hover legs are the easy way to get past the early game.

I'm playing unmodded so the control feels kinda ass, the right analog does nothing.

          Anonymous

          >I'm playing unmodded so the control feels kinda ass, the right analog does nothing.
I reccomend you switch to the dual analog control scheme. AC3's easy as is (Hard just reduces lockbox size and nothing else) so you're not actually killing any 'challenge' for using it. That's just natural for mech games: the better the controls (or the more used to you become), the easier the game becomes.
Hover legs are a meme, though. They can hardly bunnyhop due to that really weird 1.5s pause they have when they land on the ground that you CAN'T cancel with boosting the same way as you can with other leg types (even tanks) and the fact they are so flimsy will get you killed more often than not. Being able to hover over water is actually pretty good, as there are a few AC fights over water that you can cheese by overheating them (and thus getting rid of their energy supply as it's being used to force-cool their AC).

Energy weapons lack ammo, but they make up for it in power and not having any ammo costs. Pretty much all of them have 'Special' locktypes, which just plainly reduces lockbox size and range. Best FCS types are SW and WS for close-range, ND and LW for long-range/missiles. Standard should only ever be used at the very beginning of the game.

I personally love Verdict Day the most out of any entry. That game alone ate 6000 hours, and I've sunk 14000 hours into the series.

Don't be. I'd rather you enjoy what the game can fully offer as opposed to limiting yourself. If you really want to keep using the Type B controls (as they're later called in Nexus), then you can rebind every button as you see fit. A few anons do movement on Dpad and looking on face buttons, with the bumpers/triggers doing other things like switching weapons, boosters, and weapons.

              Anonymous

              >doesn't mention any better strategies
Bunnyhopping is important because being locked to the ground makes it easier for FCS to fire at you, whereas having any amount of vertical momentum makes it easier to dodge anything since their FCS is now starting to lead vertically too. Hovers can barely achieve this due to the lag caused by any little landing they do.

Which in turn: makes them nothing more than a gimmick leg type reserved for water missions. That's their only use case. Reverse joints do their whole air thing better.

      Likely the same as before.
      Pros
      >They're far more powerful than any hand-held variant you can equip, even surpassing certain shoulder variants
      >Their extreme power is often accompanied with a good supply of ammo
      Cons
      >You lose access to weapon bays because you have no hands, and in previous games, you couldn't use any hangars because you have no hands. Once you're out of ammo, it's over.
      >They're not as durable as actual arms, often causing you to lose like 600-900 AP just by having them on, alongside the lack of defense they provide
      >Some of them, while extremely powerful (those TITAN large missile launchers that basically fire 4 nukes at once), have basically no ammo and are purely meant to kill ACs (arena or specific missions) which limits their usefulness against MTs unless you bring a fodder killer like a chaingun into the mission

Real tanks can track and hit moving targets kilometers away with thier ballistic cannons (i.e. not missile weapons) while corecel FCS is such dogshit compared to even IRL tech that it can't track and lead a target moving at constant speed at some pitiful 200m.

And of course corecel """tanks""" have no armor, because they get penetrated by dogshit corecel ballistic peashooters, kek.

It doesn't matter how fast it goes, it can't dodge something that travels at the speed of light. The only question is tracking and modern FCS has no problem tracking even the fastest moving cruise missiles which can reach velocities over 2000kph, let alone an actual sci-fi FCS with a Clan targeting computer lmao.

My suggestion is that you will get turned into slag by hitscan laser weapons the moment you enter visual range regardless of how fast you're moving, because the weapon angular displacements needed to track you are minuscule at longer ranges. If you're trying to use cover you still need to enter visual range, you're under an assumption that you can just sneak up on something undetected which is a pretty big assumption to have in a setting with 360 degree sensor suites that can detect mechs kilometer away.

                ACs regularly dodge lasers...

You can't dodge lasers, moron. The lasers in your corecel game are not lasers, because the beams don't travel at the speed of light. MW and BT lasers are actual lasers that are effectively hitscan.

Gen 5 isn't similar to any other AC's aesthetics at all. It's completely unique. In fact the old criticisms and fighting over whether or not 5th gen was "ugly" made me come to appreciate the design theory and concepts more than most of the rest of the genre. I still think 3rd gen had the best aesthetics overall, but 5th gen is a style of its own.

6 has too little coherency in its direction, that's what you're noticing. Far too many parts don't look like they fit together or are even from the same franchise, even though a bunch of them are copies of older parts. It doesn't help that it has a low amount of parts due to being a new continuity, which means you don't have enough parts from the same manufacturer to establish their identity more.

Maybe it's also that they seem a bit more spindly than their AC3 equivalents with smaller torsos. Some combos of classic looking 3rd gen parts reps are relatively good like the basic Arquebus VP-4S but there's still something wrong about its proportions. The truncated torsos of Balam cores that also lack the extra front length provided by the laser AMS barrels definitely look wrong.

Gen 6 still needs a sequel or DLC to greatly expand its roster of parts so we see more variety.
The shop we have currently is a great starting point, lots of classic designs (Melander, the Arquebus one, Loader 4)

Dogshit. The way they emote like their pilots is embarassing to watch. I think Arsenal’s are an ideal scale, their size is just right. But they don’t move or behave like machines, they look like superheroes flying around. The movement mechanics aren’t that different from 4th gen AC, but NEXTs still had a certain rigidity and mechanical style of movement that sold them as a sort of middle ground between mecha and aircraft. DxM is just soulless.

They get penetrated and destroyed by shitty sub 400kg machineguns which is a joke. The rest of your post still makes no sense, because you still don't understand that you can't outrun the speed of light and that tracking a fast mover isn't hard at longer ranges.

Mw has the problem that is only gives the spotlight to the mech, and why wouldn't they? It's on the name.
I believe there is a modded game based on a mw that is actually combined warfare.
Mw5 moddind tries to fix that by giving you a helping jet and making tanks and turrets actually powerful enough to blow up some mechs but it's just an attempt to fix it.
I don't think mw will ever go full combined arms because of their namesake but battletech could try in some form if they actually cared about it.
That being said, battetech mechs and old ac are very similar in power but ac are more leaning towards the faster route but nothing that scout and medium mechs can't match. Ac are closer to clan ommimechs than anything else.

Lolmoron, they're the very opposite of Clan omnimechs. First of all, all corecel shitboxes allocate only a minuscule fraction of its total weight to weapons which is absolutely laughable. Clan mechs and especially omnimechs allow the allocation of more than 50% of the total mech weight to weapons and ammo without stripping armor.

I mean in the sense that old ac are slightly fast with their "jump jets" and the fact that ac can use any weapon that fits.
But yea, ac carry little in weapons compared to mechs.
The fact that ac are supposed to be rare elit units in game and can be comparable to some mechs means that they would be destroyed in the long run against the battletech setting
But such comparison would be unfair because it would be like comparing starwars to startrek. Different universes so the rules of another cannot apply to the other regardless.

Wonderful Body was meant to actually be a nice little in-joke for AC fans, since there was a lot of people who didn't know how to pilot NEXTs properly. He largely piloted Normals, which are the analogue to ACs in 4th gen's universe.

so how do next pilots aren't turned into organic goo inside mechs considering the high speed?

Mech magic. Same reason how the NEXTs themselves don't get over-torqued or simply fall apart due to the sheer acceleration.

AMS requires your pilot have a psychic gene that specifically assists with stability correction before you make those ridiculous spacial displacements, as well as being physically wired into the machine for near-zero input latency (lorewise). There's definitely some kind of shock/pressure displacement system built into every NEXT.

        >as well as being physically wired into the machine for near-zero input latency
Also great fun for frying your nervous system!

        >That's not how it works.
That's precisely how it works. You can't "outturn" or "outrun" something that travels at the speed of light, kek.

        [...]

Lasers can't even one-shot any known 'mech. Only certain kinds of smaller vehicles end up going down to medium/large lasers in one surge from what I have seen. The big problem you're failing to understand is that NEXTs don't purely go in one direction. They can shift their momentum entirely to basically any direction in a literal instant using Quick Boosts, and their speed variation is insane. In comparison, 'Mechs don't have much in regards of actually changing their momentum instantenously. No little hops, sidesteps, etc. like in Battletech, if we're purely talking MW here. Alongside Primal Armor (the bubble shield) stopping most if not all of the energy weaponry that 'Mechs can use. PPCs might punch through, and they can ECM the NEXT's radar, but you're still effectively a sitting duck compared to it, and you can't fly as high as it can even with the best jump jets.

ACVD corelets are massively underweight, somewhere in the range of 10 tons on average. That's barely half a light mech, kek. They get penetrated and destroyed by shitty sub 400kg machineguns which is a joke. The rest of your post still makes no sense, because you still don't understand that you can't outrun the speed of light and that tracking a fast mover isn't hard at longer ranges.

To be fair, it wouldn't matter in the first place in reality because modern wars are fought by missile platforms moreso than anything else. You can see all of those Ukraine War videos where entire battalions of tanks are being obliterated by missile platforms so far away that the crews weren't even aware they were under attack. Unless your mech is moving at the speeds of an AC post-LR, you're going to be unable to avoid even cold war-era missiles.

BT mechs can dodge incoming artillery shells with sensors and computers highlighting the areas of impact so that you can get out of the way. There are shitloads of missions like this in Mechwarrior 5. Also, missiles can be shot down by AMS and some mechs like Kitfox for the Corsair can mount up to 3 AMS systems.

In BT lore, heavy and powerful single missile systems like the Thunderbolt-20 are virtually useless against AMS.

      no

Bit of autism on my end, but does anyone else ever make a legacy mech that they bring with them across all mech games? Like it has the same color scheme, same weapon configuration, and even the same emblem if you can make it. Makes me feel like a multiverse traveler, bringing my cool robot with me across the stars. That's why it's disappointing when a mech game doesn't give you customization.

You're not alone. before my RP autism (Diverian Mist discord, if you wanna find where I RP), I used to have 'Freedom' a black and blue mech with a focus on assault/blitzkrieg. nowadays, it's the ZF-06 Gaius, a black and gold menace that constantly adapts to any situation and nothing works twice against it, with it adopting an extremely powerful CQC style of combat, suffering at anything outside of medium range when not in Sieg Freiheit mode

Which version? I'm a real fan of the classic look.

They've already announced a desire to continue working on Armored Core as a franchise in the future due to the success of AC6. However they don't tend to have their franchises compete, so you shouldn't expect to hear anything about AC6's DLC or generation-sequel title until Shadow of the Erdtree has either fully released, or is basically right around the corner.

Nice, I do hope so. Reminds me that I need to try Elden Ring one of these days.

The only bit of feedback I'd give is that if you look at a lot of heavy machinery, there's a method to how they communicate danger.
A lot of the time you have flat bright colours, with stripes/other warning signage on the areas of most concern (ie parts that are likely to move and be near people).
You might want to try some flat yellow on the torso with the stripes on the limbs.

My favorite part about mech games was always the customization. Everyone has their signature, and it's always really funny to see shit like WH40K Ork mechs being made.

I mean, Africa has had numerous wars of ethnic cleansing. Rwanda alone had a famous one where UN Peacekeepers were too undermanned or underarmed to intervene and just sat off to the side until most of the flames died down, which prompted common citizens to take up arms and resist genocide, which in turn prompted a reversal, which spurred more ethnic cleansing in the opposite direction.

I'd argue that putting the sinking of the Cradle in your face through the destruction path, you mark it as a horrific event that occurred and warranted an almost immediate response. The White Africa Incident in AC4 is just kinda stated to have happened at some point and is never elaborated on, remarked about, or commented on in any other capacity other than the one mission where you shoot a bunch of artillery in a ravine.

Try using a heavy Caestus (and then spiked Caestus) build with quick step. Quick step over Bloodhound lets you play far, far more offensively. Take faith as a secondary stat and put most of your stats into Strength, get enough Faith to use Claw Mark Seal and whatever bestial/lightning incantations you like, along with Bloodflame Blade which is what really makes spiked Caestus build shine. Alternatively, you can try Blackflame Blade which makes you really good at killing bosses. If you prefer light roll to quick step for some psychotic reason, you can try two sets of spiked Caestus set to cold affinity and one with flame of the redmanes to stack frostbite over and over. Personally, I prefer Bloodflame Blade and dragon bolt blessing with quickstep. Literally changes the entire game and makes it far more active and engaging, bleed proc being similar to ACS overload burst damage.

  64. 2 weeks ago

I never understood the "mechs have no place in combat situations" meme.
Aside from the obvious modularity of having fricking HANDS and the general maneuverability they only require one pilot to operate while tanks require an entire crew. every mech is a 1:1 upgrade of your soldiers.
    >just shoot the legs with an RPG
hit a relatively narrow part of a constantly moving target with a non-glancing impact
the reason RPGs hit tanks so hard is because there are concussive angles to the armor, there are places you can hit on a tank where the shell won't deflect - most mechs have leg armor that's angled everywhere and the jointed hard points (hips, waist, shoulders, etc) are in constant motion
you may as well be saying "who sends a soldier to fight a war? lmao just shoot them" at that point
this is even discounting rapid motion anime booster mechs, even real robot genre stuff like front mission is just a 1:1 upgrade to every soldier on your team capable of clearing most forms of enemy cover and traversing at least 10x the ground in a comparably shorter amount of time
westoid "realism" worshipers are a cancer on fictional media

hypothetical mechs have no place in a battlefield save for places where tanks and ifv are ineffective
to cut the chase very short: mechs in mountains, cities, jungles and forests = good
mechs everywhere else = mech getting peppered by autocannon fire = mech gets wrecked in a nanosecond = moronic waste of resources

There is a reason why the Ukrainians and Russians rely on human wave attacks, toy drones and artillery: it's just cheaper. Whenever they try to do big attacks with tanks and apcs they accomplish very little while burning through equipment that's worth hundred of millions of dollars. Kinda the same problem with mechs. Yes you could "upgrade" every soldier but is it really worth it when you can take out a $100million mech with a cheap drone that's rocking a $1000 shaped charge or a single artillery shell?

    >armor
    lol
a mech's mobility is its armor.
    >tank gun
    ever heard of disposable launchers?
comparable performance at a fraction of the weight.

Whenever I play ac6 with challenge cores it strikes me how the whole game is about gluing your wienerpit to whatever you're fighting and circling around it waiting for the sekiro bar to be red so you can unleash all of your firepower. Disgraceful. Playing mid range? Unoptimal. Playing long distance? There's no such thing in ac6 unless you like ricochets. Please ditch this system asap fromsoft.

    >"AC6's success will revive the mecha game genre you'll see!"
    >barely any new games after it came out
    >the not-AC game published by the ones who publish edf ended as a fluke
    >no news for the scramble vice
    >barely anyone knows about megaton musashi wired or sandland, and the latter is not full on mecha either

Because I can emulate older games I have no need of these new ones. DxM failed to give me a good core-like experience and I imagine the devs shit their pants when AC6 was announced since it means they can't coast on being the AC clone in an ACless world.
