Is Immortals really that bad? Or just mediocre?
Aggressively mediocre. Think Borderlands if there wasn't any gun variety, only one playable character, and the writing was up its own ass instead of merely stupid.
It's a middling AAA-priced shooter that came out during the most saturated month of last year (a year already saturated with big releases)
I don't care for the game personally, but sandwiching it between Baldur's Gate III, Armored Core VI and Starfield was so moronic it borders on sabotage

It's just Doom '16/Eternal with more cutscenes and 3 basic "guns"(semiauto rifle, shotgun, the Needler from Halo) plus a bunch of crowd control spells and the odd movement ability upgrade. It's a very 7/10 game. It's not awful but they probably could've done more interesting things with a smaller budget and less emphasis on story.
There's no shortage of actually interesting boomer shooters which is its biggest problems as a full price AAA production.

I played Skul in early access years ago, it was an interesting little side-scrolling rougelite. Fun powers if janky, full of stolen IPs, and poorly balanced. Metaprogression was grindy as hell too.

Skul is alright. It's like a budget Dead Cells with overly grindy meta progression. instead of weapons you get shapeshifting forms which is a fun concept, but the balance seems very poor on them

I guess I'll give Immortals of Aveum a try, I like FPSes and nuSaints Rows wasn't nearly as bad as I expected for the price of free.
Just a heads up that the game starts with a half hour walk-and-talk tutorial with a black chick, then another half-hour walk-and-talk tutorial with a different black lady, and THEN you can start playing the game. Also the performance is absolute ass but maybe it's slightly more stable on console.

i played Skul on the Switch a few years ago when i was obsessed with roguelikes/roguelites. combat can be fun at times but it's one of those roguelikes where the permanent progression is way too slow from run to run and the game doesn't feel like it gives you the fun options to play with nearly as often as it should. Like, i felt like i was constantly getting the shittiest perks/weapons/abilities in like 80% of my runs. i have no idea if they fixed this or not.
"free" feels like the only acceptable price point for Immortals of Aveum so... i dunno. If i wasn't already trying to juggle playthroughs of 5 different games at once, maybe i'd give it a try.

It sucks but not surprising after giving us Rollerdrome and Sifu.
rollerdrome looked like a neat idea but the character moves in such a sluggish way. the sense of speed and excitement is kneecapped too badly for me to play it more than the 20 mins i did
I haven't played Rollerdrome yet but it was a solid game to give out and it was literally never on sale prior to be added to PS+.
In case you missed the trends, most PS+ games are $10 value or below and they probably assume people will only play maybe $30-40 worth of the $60 they used to plop down for the "service".

Actually fun as frick. I had been waiting for it to drop in price to at least $20 but it ending up a PS title before then. Literally almost bought it during the Holiday sale but I was convinced it'd eventually come to either PS monthly games or Extra. Sony is pathetic. Based. I'm in the same boat with Sifu, been curious about it since it came out but never felt like buying it. I'm having a great time with it.
Yeah I beat it after 2 days. The first and third boss whoop'd my ass but the 2nd and 4th boss were easy. Final boss was meh. Still managed to beat it under age 25. I plan to eventually playthrough it again so I can clean up some trophies. I thought about platting it but I heard that 20,000 score trophy is an absolute b***h. Currently finishing up Dark Pictures House of Ashes rn tho. I was honestly hoping they'd put Devil in Me or The Quarry as a title since I missed out and didn't finish Quarry when it was on Extra and I refuse to pay for "movie games" like Devil in Me...although I did pay like $5 for Until Dawn, which I still haven't played yet.
I mean I'm not expecting $70 day one release games like Game Pass but my god there are so many fricking games that isn't literal slop that they could throw on there as a monthly title that I'm sure isn't pushing sales anymore. Off the top of my head:

If a restaurant increases its prices do you not expect better food or better service? What about if the bus or subway increases its prices? Do you not expect better service? Cleaner buses and trains? And this is also without even bringing up the fact that PSN just went down last week as well too. It's just a fricking joke at this point.
