How did Nioh 1 end up being so disappointing while Nioh 2 ended being one of the greatest action RPG's ever made? They're the same game, and Nioh 2 is barely an update over the original, yet the difference in quality is enormous. How does this happen?

The first game is great, you're a moron.
I will never play the second game because I know it's just a pointless grindfest through extremely mid levels and content for 5 difficulties.
Who tf said you needed to play through all 6 difficulties? Just get your fill on story mode through normal mode and have a great time
I literally skipped all the story in the first movie game. I don't care about Suzuki Ching-Chong Motorola's rise through the Shorujuitzuewuku-Chun Court where he fought off Goku and General Inuyasha at the Defense of Risumojitsu River. The game is also quite boring on normal.
The default difficulty is a joke and who actually cares about the story of these games, especially 2 with it's silent self insert protag.
It doesn't help that it's yet another game about Sengoku era so everyone who has already played at least one game about it (or read it up somewhere) already knows most of the story. It's always either Sengoku or Bakumatsu, I'm surprised Ghost of Tsushima went for mongol invasion period of Japanese history.
You have just sold it to me.
t. Borderlands fan
Sure. I liked it because of that, but saw no reason to play it again because I already played Nioh 1. When I get the urge to grind, I just play Nioh 1 some more. There's no appeal to making a new character
I've never seen a point in maxing characters over and over as well. In BL, I usually have 2-3 characters. If I want to spend some time in the game, I'd find something to do with them like grinding the perfect item roll.
I have 300 hours in nioh 2 and have never grinded
>install
>play 2-3 difficulties until I get bored
>wait a few months
>reinstall and make fresh character
I just love the gameplay
Nioh 1 has a steeper learning curve
Many people deservedly get filtered for trying to play it like a Souls game
>Yokai shift
>switchglaive
>subjectively it feels like you move faster in 2.
I dropped 1 for being too slow and clunky (I also dropped 2 that's because I can never finish games, but in 2 I got way farther in the story), but Nioh 2 was a lot of fun with fight pacing seeming like it was faster and the combos were much smoother.
>Nioh 1 end up being so disappointing
It did not. It was a solid game N2 built up on.
Several Nioh 1 levels are still worth replaying that game for.
Both have huge issues, especially in their combat, but normalhomosexuals and their youtubers think they are good because muh fast anime combos
Unironically the guy who decided they should have added a God of War 2018 style red flash parries and bullshit magic attacks should be viciously attacked and brutally murdered. Yes I'm totally unironic and you can use this post as incriminating evidence in front of a court because Team Ninja is seriously fricking moronic.
Fluxing is a moronic mechanic, but at least the intention there wasn't just exploiting and cheating stamina (which is awful and lets the player break any common fodder challenge and most bosses) but also stance switching.
Wo Long takes 2 steps forward and 10 back, somehow even doing a worse job than SoP combat design and vastly better soul shielding.
Really unfortunate series
>God of War 2018 style red flash parries and bullshit magic attacks
Nioh 2's red attacks have literally nothing in common with GoW's unblockables, take your meds.
>Nioh 2's red attacks have literally nothing in common with GoW's unblockables
They do, but they are right that they aren't similar
Nioh 2 burst counter is worse, and it further de-evolved into Wo Long critical attacks. Both heavily control the flow of combat, which means the boss controls the flow of combat
>Both heavily control the flow of combat
Burst counters are just an option you may or may not take. They don't control jack shit.
>W-well, you can counter this very much telegraphed attack with a generalist, safe and easy combat option that will heavily knock down the opponent and do massive ki damage,... or not
Try thinking critically. What does burst counter add exactly? It's another mechanic Team Ninja added to further degrade the Nioh 1 formula into a mindless hack and slash and destroying any semblance of back and forth combat allowing players to easily facemash and neuter almost every opponent, muddling weapon playstyle diversity
That's why human enemies are the best part of nioh, which they also unfortunately filter a lot of players. I love having to play footsies with human enemies to prevent them from regaining stamina. Constantly applying pressure or baiting them into attacking so you can eventually ki-break them is peak nioh gameplay.
Pure 1v1 mechanical fights like toshi are amazing and the most fun I've had in action games.

Yes, unfortunately the direction devolved into pure and simple reaction focused hack and slash combat as seen in Wo Long
To me Wo Long devolved into a minigame of how many status effects I can put on the enemy
You're not wrong but Nioh 1's formula was already degraded by its horrendously poor balance turning every weapon into a 1 move spamfest
I'd rather take an overall much better designed game with 1 kind of superfluous mechanic over a broken mess
How is it an "option" when burst attacks are all unblockable grabs or heavily damaging attacks that will break your guard and kill you if you try to deal with them any other way and it heavily drains enemy ki.
Burst Counters enable entirely the opposite. The player already can heavily control the flow of combat regardless of the enemy's stagger potential due to the wealth of commitment in their attacks via stance and Flux. But Burst Counter gives them powerful attacks and a further opportunity for you to reverse them and create notable stagger opportunities on enemies that normally don't offer them. Each one also is better suited to different Burst Counters and the ones you have access to affect how you can control the fight. On top of that you don't even need to Burst Counter them to begin with as every Burst Attack is very much avoidable and some can even offer situationally better punishes if you don't.
I'm talking to BloatBlack person though aren't I? The only one who's similarly obsessed with spreading moronic takes and is incapable of learning a thing every single time it's exposed before he repeats it again.
>enemy flashes red
>you have to press A+B
wow
nioh gays sure love to dunk on souls but even souls aren't this blatant
the red flash is a crutch because nioh telegraphs are dogshit and too fast
dmc and ninja gaiden didn't telegraph this obviously and neither did god hand yet it's easy to react to enemies
>but even souls aren't this blatant
lel
lmao
no need to write an essay on how you got filtered little shitskin
Flux and pusle in general are shit mechanics. It's like a 30f window for a fricking lame reward and these Black folk think they're doing like ewgfs
>tekkentroon thinks his hitbox combo is hard in 2023
oh god he's serious HAHAHAHAHA
>Unironically the guy who decided they should have added a God of War 2018 style red flash parries and bullshit magic attacks should be viciously attacked and brutally murdered. Yes I'm totally unironic and you can use this post as incriminating evidence
Nioh 1 is great. I actually prefer it over the second one.
>Nioh 1 is great. I actually prefer it over the second one.
Better bosses
No yokai shift
No dark realm
No excessive combo wank
Builds don't play the same
An actual character for a protagonist instead of a blank slate.
I really hope Nioh 3 is more like Nioh 1 because I can't stand the second game.
>fun combat
>boring grindy loot system
Thankfully for you you don't need any indepth knowledge of the loot systems and their bonuses until NG++!
Just wear whatever set looks cool and make sure your stamina can accomodate your set weight and that's it! ^_^
Same, I just hate how the loot is like in the series
Loot and the stupid maps are the only actual bad things about it
All the levels are essentially circular and follow the same logic
This was my reaction and why I stopped playing nioh 1 about halfway through. Pretty fun overall but you spend almost as much time sifting through your inventory as you do going through levels
I love both, the frick you are talking about?
What? The first game was a 5/10. A Souls copycat with terrible game mechanics made by talentless people. And then the second game was literally just a copy paste of the first game with even more bloat slapped on top of it like more grinding or moronic yokai summoning. Oh and a troony creator, which must be the reason you like it.
Luv nioh 1 n 2
Luv jacks game
Luv wooooooo looon’
Simple as
I want to like wolong but it's missing something btu I wouldn't be able to tell you what exactly.
I'm sure they'll figure it out by the time the third DLC comes out.
The new dlc bosses and weapon were a great addition as is. Playing through the game again on soaring dragon gave me quite the challenge once again. Beautiful game with fantastic ost
I finished all of soaring dragon and wanted more. ended up playing sekiro to see what all the fuss was about and now i'm back into nioh 2. can't wait for wo long dlc2 in september
>they added 10 new wizardry spells in DLC1
>the spells are cool as frick, Fire now learns to fling a miniature sun at enemies
>but you need to farm that shit from bosses with moronic low drop rates
>ow did Nioh 1 end up being so disappointing
It wasn't you got filtered
>CUM
well if you say so
Man, I get nostalgia on getting filtered by this b***h
surprising what actual enemy variety and good boss design can do for a game
also the soundtrack is fantastic, huge component to why Nioh 2 feel better.
William > Hide
Living Weapon > Yokai Shift
Nioh 1 story > 2
That said, everything else that really matters is in 2's favor. Soundtrack, level design, boss fights and general gameplay.
>Nioh 1 story > 2
I'd agree with you but 2's story has a ridiculous, satisfying payoff thanks to Otakemaru. Nothing in 1 matches that.
>ridiculous, satisfying payoff thanks to Otakemaru
I don't get what you could find satisfying or even remotely interesting about him. Nobunaga blowing off the main villain of 1 and fighting William just because before going back to the afterlife to chill with Noh was way better than whatever happened in 2 and is one of the only memorable moments of either game's story.
I'm enjoying Stranger of Paradise. Will I like Nioh?
Most likely
Nioh 2 is a lot better than SoP. Obviously it doesn’t have the Final Fantasy characters but the gameplay is better.
Sop plays nothing like nioh. Nioh is a downgrade with shit troony creation
If you'd like to trade some of the gear customizability for a bunch more mechanical complexity, depth and moveset options to play with, while enjoying the spirit of how SoP encourages you to experiment and explore all the combat options and learn more about them, then Nioh is very worth playing.
Nioh 1 is just bad compared to the imrovements in Nioh 2
Nioh 1 on its own isn't that bad outside of Umi-buzo unless you know the whole gimmick of 'use fire you fricking moronic c**t like the game tells you to'
Outside of that and the optional (OPTIONAL) bosses, the game isn't bad at all.
>nioh 2 is barely an update over the originals
in terms of mechanics? sure
in terms of content? no way, nioh 2 is a MASSIVE upgrade both in quality and quantity. nioh was a great game at it's core, it just sorely lacked content
I enjoyed SoP quite a bit and the gear grind aint too bad unless you trying to max everything, so I think I will just go play some Ninja Gaiden 2
Nioh peaked when it was still in Alpha and played like Ninja Gaiden.
This is my wow long
does it still stutter like a c**t?
I’m on PS5 never had issues. Sucks that kt games are always so shit on pc on release seems like so long issues went a bit longer since new engine. Makes me sad that wild hearts will be remembered for its shit performance. That game is incredibly beautiful in every sense, so much fun too
It is me, Zhang zhang
Fightin evil eunuchs and their evil religion n shiet
nioh 2 was just a repackaged nioh 1 this shit should've been a free upgrade for nioh 1 owners
if I bought nioh 1 full price and then nioh 2 dropped again for $60 I'd be furious
Nioh 1 was also a fantastic game and only disappointing to people who make excuses for themselves. Half the posts in the thread being filled with blatant misinfo are a clear example of this. Nioh 2 is a significant upgrade in just about every single way, but it manages to be good because of how it builds on the foundation 1 lays down.
>Nioh 2 is a significant upgrade in just about every single way
Hahahaha.
>How did Nioh 1 end up being so disappointing while Nioh 2 ended being one of the greatest action RPG's ever made
>How did the devs learn from the issues of one game and make its sequel better?!
you know, anon, we may never know
