I randomly select the game and look up its latest Ganker thread on the archives and if the thread was negative I consider it worth playing, defending, and shilling.
I look at 2-5 seconds of gameplay. that's genuinely all it takes for me to know if a game is for me or not
in the rare circumstance that doesn't work, I skim through a longplay at ~5 different points and/or just hover through with the thumbnail preview cursor thing
if I'm still undecided, I'll read some reviews on backloggd or check the Ganker archive
basically what said but I tend to start playing the games myself
if it can't hook you in the intro it's garbage which is why I despise 4 homies in a row games
Do you need proof that she likes apple pie?
There's not a lot to dislike about apple pie, I guess it's unhealthy but that's about it.
I personally prefer pumpkin pie.
i typically don't find out a game exists unless someone is comparing it to another game
if i know the other game and like the other game, and someone thinks there are enough similarities to compare them, then i might put it on a list of things to check out when i can't think of anything else i want to be doing
there's no system that works for everything but generally it's going through this and only moving forward if each answer is yes >is it a genre i like, or at least a genre i don't actively dislike? >does the gameplay you can find on youtube seem good or at least palatable? >is the artstyle acceptable, or does the game look like an utter eyesore? (think fallout: new vegas) >are the cutscenes, if there are any, filled with sincere dialogue or characters that aren't annoying or cringe? >is it on sale/is there going to be a sale sometime soon/is it cracked?
i play the game only if all of these are yes, unless it's something that looks so incredibly good that i'll make compromises
I look at speedruns and pros play it and see if it looks fun. Why would I watch IGN play something like Doom and DMC to form my opinion when it's not my first time playing video games? For story and chill games it's just important that the game looks good or cute but I don't play those that much.
I look at a video of gameplay and read reviews from players about why they didnt like it. If the majority of reasons people didnt like the game was not off putting to me ill maybe get the game.
For me it depends on the size of the women's breasts. If they are bigger than C cup, I lose my shit. I'm a big homosexual and feminist and big breasts is objectification. Objectification is bad because someone told me so.
Don't know about vidya, since I tend to know lots about the game before seeing cover art for the first time, but with anime it works with 100% efficiency, since everyone who isn't a brainlet can see correlation between cover and content after consuming this shit for years, don't even need IQ, just experience.
I want to add that if there is a discussion about the game, and the fans of the game used buzzwords to defend against a well-detailed legitimate criticism, then my willingness to play the game also decrease. The opposite is also true if shitposters only use buzzwords to shit on the game.
At this point, I've played many games over my life. Hundreds probably. I can basically look at a game and have a reasonable guess on whether I'll like it or not.
Read the store page to see the premise
Look at screenshots to see the art style
Watch trailers/gameplay to see it in action
See who the devs are, what else they've made
Determine if asking price seems worth it
>decent reviews by humans, not ~~*"""critics"""*~~ >not a shitty genre (like fighting games) >has a page on Wikipedia (your game doesn't exist otherwise) >the game has a character or story I feel a connection to >there are actual fans of the game (not just shill bots like here on Ganker)
If it makes journalists seethe it’s usually worth playing
Depending on the type of shitposting about it, it’s worth playing if it’s obviously filtering shitters
appealing artstyle
it is of a genre I either enjoy or am interested in trying
it features attractive women
fippy bippy
I randomly select the game and look up its latest Ganker thread on the archives and if the thread was negative I consider it worth playing, defending, and shilling.
Who ever pays me the most to shill it.
Go to youtube
Watch trailer
If still in doubt, search for a no commentary playthrough and watch the first 20 minutes or s
I play it
The amount of futa porn the game have
That is why i play Dragon quest and touhou
No trannies
No Black folk
No microtransactions/gacha
No censorship
high IQ take
But, isn't getting rid of trannies and Black folk censorship?
yes
Name 10 games from the last couple of years.

Where is the actual evidence that hello kitty likes apple pie? I always see it mentioned but no proof.
Do you need proof that she likes apple pie?
There's not a lot to dislike about apple pie, I guess it's unhealthy but that's about it.
I personally prefer pumpkin pie.
>Source? Do you have a source? Ill need a source for that opinion! No you can't just state the obvious and leave it at that, I need a source!
If the people who like the game are annoying then I won't play it. Ganker fanboys have probably saved me dozens of hours and hundreds of dollars
by pirating it duh
every time someone posts a bell curve I'm on the left
Watching gameplay
try before you buy, demo or piracy
How do you decide if it's worth a pirate?
If I can find a pirated copy I click download, no time for research, too busy pirating and playing
If it's on torrents and looks like a thing you personally might enjoy (genre, style, aesthetics) you may as well give it a try
The box art
Responsive controls is everything to me

>i look at speedruns to see if it looks fun
do you speed run? speedrunning is often the least fun way to actually play a game.
Being good at games isn't boring. And no I don't mean glitched out of bounds gameplay.
I look at a video of gameplay and read reviews from players about why they didnt like it. If the majority of reasons people didnt like the game was not off putting to me ill maybe get the game.
Typically I'll look at a couple of screenshots and just know if it'll be interesting or not
I just wwant to customize my own character and self-insert these days.
Soundtrack. Even games that are 90% unoriginal assets soundtrack included have good soundtracks
if i want it it is worth playing maybe
i will purchase (yes BUY) to find out
For me it depends on the size of the women's breasts. If they are bigger than C cup, I lose my shit. I'm a big homosexual and feminist and big breasts is objectification. Objectification is bad because someone told me so.
If there's blacks or ugly women in the marketing, that's an automatic no. Also any game with dailies
Wait long enough for it to go on a reasonable sale and see what people's conclusion about it is after the honeymoon/inflated expectations phase ends
Unironically
>"is it popular?"
If it is there's a 90% chance it's not worth playing.

have a nice day
>Is a fantasy game
>Is not isometric
>Look through screenshots a bit to make sure it's not dialogue heavy.
I don't have a lot of games I enjoy...
I watch a youtube clip of it.
9/10 werks every time, and I don't get meme'd into it by Ganker
I want to add that if there is a discussion about the game, and the fans of the game used buzzwords to defend against a well-detailed legitimate criticism, then my willingness to play the game also decrease. The opposite is also true if shitposters only use buzzwords to shit on the game.
I play the game, and if I enjoy it, I keep playing. If I don't, I drop it.
what if you enjoy it, but it has moronic fillers in the middle of the gameplay.

This, and if all/most of the trailers are cinematic instead of actual gameplay you'll know it's shit.
just check out gameplay then steam reviews
I never buy a game at release
either less than 10 buck or never
>steam reviews
the positive or negative?
Big breasts on the box art.
>decent reviews by humans, not ~~*"""critics"""*~~

Watch a few minutes of raw gameplay without commentary or cuts
