I don't hate the concept as long as it has a baseline for people that want to challenge themselves with weak weapons. I'm not opposed to minimum damage thresholds where better weapons or stats make a fight way easier and not possible.

The only thing you do in MH, nearly 100% of the time, is killing shit and gathering materials to craft armor/weapons.
Fights taking advantage of this to make you change build and get you out of your comfort zone at least partially should happen a lot more.
I think way more monsters should have debilitating statuses and shit like wind or constant roaring that requires you to build a set to fight them so you get to work out a new way to slot all your skills tbh.

its funny cause the fight itself isnt that hard, the reason its difficult is because youre pressured to play very aggressively which can lead to mistakes, all of which stems back to the dps check. fatalis is alot better in this regard and alatreon shouldve just been on a 30m timer with more hp

Wrong because Fatalis came after, was harder and didn't have DPS checks. Alatreon is a monster fully designed to push you to play aggressively and "dance" with the monster
The perfect hitboxes, the fact he gives you an opening for the head after almost every attack, the limited flying, allows you to damage him constatly once you know the fight, reaching the DPS very reliably.
You do that and Alatreon should be dead before he can even use the second one, or at worst a couple mins after that.

They didn't design an easier fight and used the nuke as band-aid.
They started from the idea of the nuke to push an aggressive playstyle, and designed the fight in a way that would allow that to work.

That actually sounds like a neat gimmick. Sort of akin to how the beetles can inflict waterblight in Rise, what if a water weak monster caught in the rain suffers even more damage from water weapons? Or if they scale it back and say you're fighting a monster like Jyrua and he hardens up with mud but the rain keeps washing it away making him soft. Could be interesting. Maybe your fire weapons do less damage in the rain but more damage in arid areas.

I don't get it, by the point you fight this guy you have access to tons of elemental options. Is it really that hard to whip together one set to beat him? Like it's not rocket science, some ice/fire attack on armor and an ele weapon should do the job. You have Velkana's weapons and armor right before it even.

In nier replicant I was playing hard mode and when I got to the DPS check boss just before the time skip I don't think I could possibly have done it if I hadn't happened to walk into the fight with just enough damage boosting items on me.
after that I set it to normal, it made fights against regular enemies much more enjoyable but bosses started going down too easy

I stopped at Alatreon because I didnt have a specifically ice elemental build or decent ice safi weapon, it would have taken ages of farming to get one ready, so i just dropped it. Ecliptic meteor was less gay than escaton meme

Weakening Escaton Judgment should shrink the AoE to be avoidable instead of something you need to outheal, while have the currently weakened version be the standard.
