shut the frick up. dont ask me shit
fippy bippy
Thinking of buying disco elysium to learn about good writing, but beyond that game, not sure. I learned quite a bit of blender too.
learning art and writing is fine but you can't dev until you learn an engine and its programming language.
I know quite a bit of ue5, so im just focusing on my weaker skills right now.
just drag and drop w/ gamemaker its fricking easy
>Thinking of buying disco elysium to learn about good writing
Read books instead.
Didnt read a book since 14 years ago. Unless you count comics or vns
What this anon says. Read classics, not self help booklets.
read up on Carl Jung and archetypes and the hero's journey (which he came up with, not Campbell, the thieving rat) and base your writing around that. If you never wrote before, keep it to one protagonist. If you have, try to have multiple intersecting heroes' journey's for compelling story-telling.
Nothing yet since last thread, taking care of my chimken. I'll work on it later.
Terrain tool (soulless) with stuff I need placed on it or pointy looking ground handmade in blender made by someone with 0 skill (soul)?
>npc tier hating on Unity
Funny how people with no game and no skill shit on it so much.
>sunk cost fallacy
>mother duck syndrome
>defending the only engine you know
>stockholm syndrome
Pick your poison, either way, you're objectively wrong.
>reddit buzz words
>parrots what other people told him
Not an argument btw, also I see you didn't post anything. Strange why people with big opinions on things often have no experience with said thing
speak for yourself, bro, where's your game?
and no, I actually work with Unity, it's a shit engine by a shit company. Defending a turd is still a turd you thirdworlder
>still hasn't posted his game when asked
yeah thought so
hasn't posted his game when asked
>still hasn't posted his game when asked
You first pussy. I asked first, and you are making the claim. Or you can keep being a little b***h baby. I bet you don't even have anything to show
>claims Unity is good
>asks others that disagree to show their games
>...instead of showing off that Unity is in fact good
You're too moronic for logical thinking let alone game dev.
Jesus christ you are moronic. Nowhere did I make that claim. Go back and read the posts you moron. Holy frick, 0 reading comprehension.
And yes, if you are going to shit on an engine, let us see if you can back that up. Otherwise, shut the frick up, you are just another ignorant loser that is talking out of his ass.
Wow. With all of that bickering, neither of you uploaded your games. Now, watch this:
https://nrasko.itch.io/the-frydarian-tale
(Still crediting Kujalla for this dope picture he made, he’s the best.)
nta but that anon asked first
No work done since the last update since I’m focusing on helping my family. Will see if I can grind some progress out at night, but as it stands, I’m just lurking like a Babak.
godspeed to you and your family! family first!!
Thanks. Sorry I can’t show you guys more epic gameplay for everyone to dismiss as a weird furry game.
This picture and its filename genuinely make me laugh everytime I randomly see it.
Glad you find amusement out of such a lame picture. I made an updated version and threw it in the game’s manual, but Fygoon’s smiling instead of silently judging you. It’s quite soulless.
New Nortubel character.
Ok that looks pretty litty.
can't decide on what I want to make
>gob.. Gobrin sulaya San?
MAKE SCIENCE
Patapon clone on android with gacha, I wish I had rhythm and made it myself
Hey you misspelled "4 years of no progress lmao unusable trash"
I give up for the 10th time.
How do you plan a decent soulful 3d village iyo?
I can't find many resources, my idea was to go to an irl village of mine, take pics, block out and then add details but I'm sure irl cannot translate directly to vidya in terms of interest.
use google maps and use geography to delimit it. Typically forestry, ocean and mountains are boundaries.
Good idea anon, thank you.
I don’t even have a computer so right now I’m just writing the script and making a stat system.
Godot is dogshit, why do some of you Black folk use it? it feels like tech from like 2011
Whats wrong with dogshit? Its better than horseshit (Unity)
better games have been made in unity.
devs make good games. not engines make the games.
godot has similar capabilities to unity for most basic devs and only lacks in 3d. 2d devs have no reason to turn to an anti-freedom engine which has the power to steal your money or games at a moments notice.
>freedom
troony buzzword
>sucking corpo wiener
you are the troons
troons are communists, they want shit for free
lol
Does Unreal's Character Movement Component have a variable for deceleration when you are holding back on the analog stick while moving forward?
do you mean that when you push the stick slightly it moves only a little bit? Then that would be in the input component to define the axis value. Instead of 0 or 1, you can make it go in between.
>do you mean that when you push the stick slightly it moves only a little bit?
No I'm talking about all back inputs, from 0.1 to 1.0
>Then that would be in the input component to define the axis value. Instead of 0 or 1, you can make it go in between.
Sounds interesting. How do I implement it without breaking how inputs work?
ohhh like in mario sunshine when you move and then immediately turn the stick 180 and he kinds of slides and decelerates?
I don't think there is a built-in way to do it. What you can do is have it slide through friction and using a tick check if your current velocity and your input direction dot product is less than ~0.2, use a slide animation.
I was more thinking with how it works in 2D Sonic games but now with analog input
I know exactly what I want to make but I don't know how to make it. I'm really good at C++ and programming in general although I might get filtered from trying to do art, animations, music, sound design, etc. Any good to place to learn where to learn to do those?
Focus on getting gameplay working. If it's fun then now you can start creating assets. Art and music will be the hardest to create so I recommend hiring an artist and a music composer if you are trying to sell your game.
/ic/ /3/ and Ganker should have resources for you
Does your game have cute girls that could get swimsuit fanart?
If so, show me.
I'm learning 3D!
and its the most fun I had in a long time
current wip
Any tips for having fun while learning 3D? It could improve my willingness to do so greatly.
>Any tips for having fun while learning 3D
I dunno ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I normally draw in 2D and it always felt like a chore but 3D is way more fluid for me maybe it's honeymoon phase but I doubt it
Maybe it's the positive attitude?
this was my first try with the donuts and during render the textures vanished because the folders disapeared...
enter the fandom for a game you like and collect social capital
this will provide a valuable start for when you begin making stuff for its own sake
That looks good I'd eat it
Nice render
Did someone try the Code Monkey 'Learn Unity Beginner/Intermediate 2023' tutorial, I'm 2hours in and it's fine but I wonder If I should watch all 10hours
>If you're completely clueless
Probably worthwhile to stick with something like that to get a handle on how the engine and workstream is setup
>If you already kind of know and are just watching for examples on things you can do
Skip out, work on something for a bit or making some small things, come back if you feel stuck or confused on mechanics/aspects of game dev.
You'll always do better trying to incorporate your own ideas/workflows than trying to copy someone else's without necessarily knowing why you are doing something.
I'm using godot but for any tutorial you should watch, implement yourself, then start from 0 without the tutorial and try remembering how to do it, google assistance is fine. that recall function is necessary to not have to return to the tutorial over and over. 10 hours is far too long, do it in 2 hour chunks at most.
>installed a code tool on phone
>got more done on toilet breaks than on pc
its a weird life
how do you guys have time to do stuff on the can
i shit in like 4 minutes
I need to buy a drawing tablet but I keep buying books instead which isn't bad because they'll serve as inspiration but maybe I'm afraid I'll suck at digital art.
Spent three hours walking around the city while recording video with my camera for level design inspiration. Got home and discovered my phone camera automatically turns off when the screen goes dark.
google maps is superior in any way.
Try Pinterest for architectural references, tons of stuff there, from forest ruins to theater sets
I'm already getting filtered
is that why all the renpy VNs are such long and arduous shit?
Look at needy streamer overdose.
That VN is pretty short, but holy frick the writing and different amount of routes are fricking amazing.
The worm has turned
Porn-mod when?
It IS kinda going after years of not really going
pretty awesome actually
thanks anons, it means a lot
I'd go with 3 or 5.
4 is pretty cool too but i feel fits the character less. Nice designs anyway
holy kino
>camera follows you on tilted ground and stays tilted if you jump from a tilt, doesn't correct until you land
that's actually fricking awesome looking.
Alright anons, which face should I go with?
She's a cute autsist that does complex sci-fi physics.
3
3
1 and 5 look the most autistic to me, in a cute way.
1, 3, and 4 are the most striking visually and stand out. From there, I'd say either 3 or 4 make best use of the space and silhouette, but 3 is less busy w/out the hair clips, and you can see both eyes. So I'd say 3 is a winner unless you can make a small edit to 4 to have a slight bit of the left eye show, like combining the left-side front hair bang of 3 w/ the length of 4.
I'm a fan of the first 2 designs.
Also the 5th design looks like a blend of 3 and 5, not a bad thing though.
I would honestly pick 1 or 2, then maybe give her 1 or 2 alternate designs if you aren't animating.
5 is so hot, wish girls like that existed
I see these a lot. People posting a lineup and asking "which costume should I pick" "what head looks best" "Which weapon" etc etc and it pisses me off because, why not all of them? I mean people don't wear the exact same outfit every single day and girls always style their hair differently each day too. I can imagine a girl with hair 3 looking like 4 the next day because she found hairpins, or 2 the next day because she got a haircut, or 1 because her bangs got too long. The more humanized you make your character, the more believable their existence in the world is.
Because this character is probably going to show up once for one scene, and quintupling the cost of development is rarely something you should be eager to pull the trigger on.
Maybe for the main character something like that would be in order, IE: unlockable costumes, but even then, that's always gravy.
Character changes their appearance based on factors the player character did, for example a moral compass or quest events leading up to the meeting.
>quintupling the cost of development
homie we're indie devs. Your cost of development is a can of Pepsi and 4 Oreos.
am currently trying to move my gamemaker game to linux for development but for some reason my shaders arent working right.
anybody have any idea why this would be?
Have a slightly better back pack now.
I really need to get back to working on the NPC AI.
Godot is holding you back. You need to switch to Unity or Unreal.
I made a rat for my survivorslop
Nice rat.
I learned the basics of Blender and Pixel art,now I started learning OpenGL so I can make my own engine.
Wow you're literally me! Can't wait to see our lowpoly pixelshit games release in 20 years!
basics of pixel art? what's that?
pixels
I think I'm gonna buy unreal assets and make living in poland simulator
doing engine dev. added a unity style inspector to tweak shit shit on the fly
Godot-chads win again and again
they all look the same
DAS RAYCIST
I only slept for 2 hours but upon the twilight of waking up I was bestowed with idea for the plot of my game.. cautiously optimistic, will evaluate in the morrning.
