This for me this too much roleplaying, really, even as a DM id be frustrated.

A character not knowing something doesn't mean he would do the exact opposite of what he'd be doing.
Flameou the flame guy would 100% try to fry the troll unless he had a reason to do otherwise.
Plus, in most fantasy settings there's knowledge that can just be assumed to be somewhat widespread, at least among the monster fighting population.
And It honestly Just feel awkward pretending to not know something you know, especially in combat. If its purely for roleplay reasons, outside of combat, its mostly Fine for me, but in combat really If Just feels like you are playing dumb, and that is annoying at the very least

This. Flameo would have no reason to NOT blast something with fire once or twice before taking the hint at it's effectiveness.
Also alot of "common weaknesses" of certain creatures are well known enough for an adventurer to at least know SOME of them.

I've always found that attitude extremely annoying. If you live in a world where trolls are a thing, any person of ordinary intelligence would be able to recognize a troll even if they don't regularly encounter them.

Hey morons, I'm not saying that a tiger would be an unknown creature in general, but that the majority of people wouldn't know about them. Who are the "majority" centuries back? Uneducated peasants/serfs that largely lived out their entire lives in one region and barely had access to information past the closest city and a very dim understanding of both geography and any history past the last few generations of their direct ancestors.
No shit, in a time period where the dissemination of knowledge is comparatively super slow and most people don't even have access to what little international knowledge there IS to know, yeah, a tiger and a shitload of other animals we now think of as "common" knowledge were creatures of rumor or too obscure for most people.
