Never listen tonan Orgins gay, Odyssey is 10x better and the only good new one. Blackflag is good, I like 3 but I'm into the revolutionary war, the mc in 3 is the worst sounding voice actor in the series. 1 and 2 are decent too. Rogue is meh and cringe af.

Valhalla is the only RPG game worth playing simply because of Viking side activities. In Origins and Odyssey you are literally just Geralt but in Egypt or Greece. At least in Valhalla you can raid monasteries and siege castles.

buy 2 and 4 on a giga-sale. That's really all you need to get your whole AC fix. The rest is your typical copy and paste ubi-shit slop

AC1 is the best if now outdated. It's the only truly "good" one in the series, in that you can tell that they had novel ideas and wanted to tell a good story and not just make a quick buck.

AC2 is totally different, less mature, less serious about historicity, but it set the tone for the series for the next 15 years or so.
If you don't like it then you won't like anything before Unity or Origins.

Odyssey is totally different from the rest, it's the least AC-ey in the series but can be great fun.

1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations and 3 are direct sequels. It makes sense to play them all.
Rogue relies on you having played 3 if you want to understand everything.
    Black Flag is mostly standalone.
Unity references Rogue but it's unimportant.

I tried to play AC2 after completing PoP trilogy but is just shit. Unlike PoP where you had to do the parkour for yourself, this games plays automatically. You just have to press W+RCB and the character does everything by himself. And the combat is a total downgrade from Warrior Within.
At least it was educational to learn the origins of the Ubisoft open world slop that every other company seem to follow later for the entire 2010s decade. You know, filling the entire map with mark locations for stupid pointless tasks that nobody wants to do unless you're an autistic completionist

    >Brotherhood

Constantinople is awesome, gameplay too easy already, and story getting tired. Optional.
    >3

    >4
Great gameplay, great story, beautiful landscapes, fun sailing. Must play.
    >Rogue
Mixes and mashes 3 and 4 but does everything a little worse. Optional.
    >Unity
Paris is gorgeous and worth experiencing, great graphics, clunky gameplay, buggy, glitchy and floaty, lame plot. Conditional recommendation.
    >Syndicate
Same as Unity but in London and less buggy, better assassinations. Still recommended.
    >Origin
3 but in Egypt. Dumb story, boring maps, boring gameplay. This is where the series went all-out copying Witcher 3 and I tapped out.

    >1
Interesting premise, strong atmosphere, makes you feel like an actual assassing the most and, well, it's the start of the series' plot. But also still rather unpolished and very repetitive compared to the later titles
    >2
Peak of series according to many, good story, amazing atmosphere, added a lot of variety and quality to the gameplay
    >Brotherhood and Revelations
Both of them are basically AC2 with a new smaller map and story and some new mechanics. Similar or even slightly better quality, but playing them all one after another can get repetitive
    >3
Starts really good, then falls down hard only to pick up again near the end. In general they tried to introduce a lot of new mechanics here which makes it feel kinda chaotic and not very well designed, but some of them are nice and others can largely be ignored. Change of setting is bit of fresh air, but exploration isn't that good ultimately. Overal worse than previous games, but still decent. It's also the finish of story arc started in the first game (and was supposed to be the end of series originally, but you have to milk them monnies I guess)
    >Black Flag
Fun pirate game, but doesn't have very much to do with AC really
    >Rogue
Combines best parts of 3 and BF and is also a bit shorter, pretty good
    >Unity
Good exploration and a bit more challenging than the previous games, but it's massively overbloated, doesn't use its setting very well in my opinion and the story is boring. Not worth it in my opinion, but some people liked it

Everything after that really becomes just a bloated slop not worth bothering with in my opinion. Honorable mention for Origins having at least fairly good story

Yeah it shows how the brotherhood was basically built on hypocrisy because 2 people couldn't come to terms with their grief. The characters even point out several times throughout the story that Bayek was in denial about killing his own son and realizes that what he and Aya started is a ripple they can't stop.

This, Bayek literally has no arc. He never has any introspection. His guilt regarding Khemu's death is never brought up. He doesn't change, Aya does; and it's Aya who forces him to accept it. And it makes sense because she was the original protagonist and Bayek was supposed to die halfway through. In a broader aspect Origins fails because it tries to set itself up as the founding of the brotherhood yet it doesn't ponder its creed or the philosophical nature of their fight ONCE. At most the ending cutscene is a generic "tyrants bad" and it took them until the DLC to even touch on the brotherhood's maxim. It's never about free will, it's about just fighting baddies and defending le downtrodden. There's no observation of the nature of society, no introspection on the creed they are fighting for (because again the creed is not mentioned once, Bayek and Aya use the brotherhood as a justification for killing when it used to be the killing was in lieu of the assassin's creed being considered important enough to a person that they would kill to defend it; very different connotations). The belief that free will and questioning authority were things worth fighting for, the belief that while we should be free to act as we wish that means we should also be held responsible for our actions... Origins is devoid of any such thought.

You can use Black Flag and Origins as litmus tests to check whether someone truly gets what AC narratives are supposed to be about because only one of the two bothers with a good story and it's the one most illiterate midwits pass on with the asinine "le good pirate game but le bad AC game" assertion.

That's because most of this shit is established to be the doing of Al Mualim's restructuring of the creed before AC1 and Altair's further changes after. Until then most of the Hidden Ones just seek out Order members with eden artifacts and kill them to hide their existence. It just so happens that many of those people are power hungry lunatics.

The parkour system peaked with Revelations in terms of player freedom. 3 onwards is too automated and depends way too much on your camera angle to be pixel perfect to work right.

Ezio's rock climbing style isn't suited for good parkour imo. I haven't played Revelations in a long time though. But I tried replaying Brotherhood and it forced you to climb in a way similar to climbing a ladder. Find the path with least resistance and go through that, faster than trying to force advanced techniques such as side and back ejects. Had the opposite experience with Unity. Unity wants you to learn good parkour techniques if you want to be efficient about it.

And then proceeds to ignore half of your inputs, assuming you even managed to find one of those fabled locations that actually let you use its parkour mechanics at all. I've had issues with all of the games, but Unity is the only Assassin's Creed game that I hated actually playing. Every second trying to tard wrangle Arno made me wonder why I wasn't doing anything else.

If I lost both hands in a tragic machining accident, I could still count on my fingers the number of times I needed a "guide" to just fricking play an Assassin's Creed game outside of Unity. Not that it's worth a damn anyway, because Arno still climbs like a fricking moron and gets stuck on everything, no matter how much you might want to climb sideways or whatever other dumbass shit that video tries to peddle. Depends, do you care about what AC used to represent and be about both mechanically and even narratively or do you just want to jump in and out akin to people starting Yakuza with 0? If the former start with AC1 and stop with either Revelations, 3, Black Flag or Unity as those games in order had: the last good parkour, the last narrative that mattered, the last good overall product and the last time AC tried to innovate and keep its identity. For the love of god don't touch the RPG shitfests.

IV / Rogue, Origins and Odyssey are standout games in the series.
None of them are genuinely bad, not even the divisive ones like III or Unity (which has the best parkour in the series), but they're probably hard for new players to get into. Just play Origins or Odyssey and see what you think.

Valhalla is better than Odyssey if only because it at least tries to connect with AC. It retconned/handwaved/tried to fix a lot of shit Odyssey ruined like Layla or Aletheia, it brought back social stealth, it cared about connecting with games no one expected it to connect to like fricking AC3 with the entrance to the Grand Temple and Connor's crystal ball. It was written by Darby McDevitt and it shows.
