Idea started from playing GR runs in D3. I wanted infinite difficult scaling, and all builds to stem from items so you could experiment as much as you want. And no stupid sets that make the build for you.

just checked out the YouTube with the trailers and Frauki's Adventure that I'm assuming is yours. I like the treasure room and the idea of making specific melodies when your in conversation with what i assume are the later game npcs like the harlot and coward just cause they look like quest lines. Rest of the environments look like grim dark dungeon which fits the vibe bur do you have other environments planned?
yeah, the final game will have 5 zones. each with a different theme, and with 2-3 different tilesets, and their own set of enemies. what youre seeing is the first zone. each one goes deeper and deepr into the necrovale.

While I dislike the idea of an EA release, I do understand why, and I'm probably gonna buy it at or near the EA release date.

i dont want to spoil too much, because each one is going to be released as an update. but the next zone that will come out is called "The Hornslack Ruins". Beyond the dungeons and slums of the necrovale, it will explore the fallen civilization that once occupied the area.
ya, thats the game. the basic systems of the game are fairly simple. the complexity all comes from the items and how they interact. by the end you have quite absurd levels of rube goldberg machine build
If I make anything worthwhile I'll put a link on your YouTube. I tried doing something to the treasure room and it ended up sounding like cut scene inside a castle music. Hornslack Ruins sounds pretty cool with the sprite you have in mind. I dig the world building you sound passionate.

is gifrel the game? looks cool, if a bit simple, but that's not necessarily bad. RE4 is incredibly simple, as long as you just maintain good pacing and the gameplay loop doesn't feel like a waste of time.
Looks decent the trailer is a huge improvement over your last games but I still find it to be a bit bland but hey at least the music feels more appropriate this time. as for the game itself it looks ok but the genre is kind of stuffed so I hope it gets a little attention because your sprite work looks better this time and I do want to see you succeed like anyone else who seems to be putting effort into their games. you do however may want to find a way for your game to stand out a bit more because It is kind of generic. Good luck on making games hopefully you do well at it.

well, i had to make a judgement call between having 4 directional sprites, or having sprites holding different weapons. i chose the different weapons. i couldnt afford to have both, especially with how they multiply together.
if the project makes enough money, i will consider it as an update. but honestly, it is not my highest priority. making more items, more enemies, levels, NPCs, etc... is way more important to me. i know it looks a little janky this way, but if i have to choose, i would rather make the game more fun than more beautiful. and new items are way more fun than more player sprite frames.

well, i basically built the game initially from shit i cobbled together. assets i found, shitty ones i made, etc. you can see all that in the old trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NutYOfgY3lk). well, it was eventually enough to attract a small publisher. he previously had published a really successful game, and the company making that game had a full time art staff making updates. he finagled some of their time for my project, to rework the player, enemy, and NPC sprites.
i knew from my previous project that i wasnt a good enough artist to make something people thought looked really good. so i just tried to make the game as good as i was able, and got lucky eventually and had someone more talented help me out.

also a bug where I opened the menu then moved over to my potions to read their description and when I closed the menu the description stayed on my screen until I re-opened and moved the cursor back to my items instead of pots

You should definitely post another thread when it hits EA, ideally with an updated demo and more webms. Purely from a shilling perspective you should have a cool webm showing a different weapon, enemy, something, with each post.
Depending on the amount of content I think 15 sounds like quite a bit - 12 is how this looks to me for what it's worth. It always seems to me that the original RoR pricing to content is a great benchmark. And it's an example of a game that had a lot of Ganker attention through visual style and good webms.

Cool little game, all that bothers me is that you don't have different sprites for walking up and down.
ok it's late so my thoughts are chaotic but here's my thoughts so far after like 30-40mins in the demo
>the dummy in the "test your damage" room said i did 40k damage (i reported this bug in game already)
>the large areas (not the ones where you get waves, but the ones where you advance) like the slums can often turn into a game of "i need to track down the last enemy but i can't find them" and can feel a tad labyrinthian due to having no indication of where the exit or last surviving enemy is
>the wave areas (like stronghold) spawn many delayed waves of very few enemies instead of several waves of increasingly more enemies, which goes on a bit too long if you're at 28 waves remaining
>sometimes when you open the inventory while clearing a room, the "X enemies remaining" alert on the screen will disappear
>the dodge has an input delay that doesn't feel quite snappy and immediate (if this is intentional than ok, but if not then you should know)
>some of the melee weapons lock you into place for a bit too long, for example an axe i used had really short range and locked me in place after swinging for a while, while the three-show bow basically lets me hope around pretty quickly with a smaller delay
>after a while the unusual rooms stopped being a thing and i just entered a very long loop of combat rooms and that's where i paused for now
also last but not least

but that just may be a demo thing
that's the negative feedback i guess
i like the game's feeling (call it atmosphere or choice of audiovisuals) and the item variety and it's a neat little game so far, for a small indie anyway

what helps me, though im not even close to the most productive 1. lowering expectations of myself and my project. lowering scope. kill dream projects. have to meet reality where it is, not try and change reality 2. get the project in front of people as early as possible. even a little bit of excitement from people is hugely motivating. 3. ass in chair, don't break the chain. this talk is really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIPmjnsCPR4 even on christmas and new years, i did something, even a small thing. one single say of nodevving can snowball into weeks months or years of nodevving. i learned this dozens of times on frauki 4. think of gamedevving as bigger than any single project. i know after necrovale i have a dozen more things i want to make, so its success or failure wont stop me

Finished demo here are some thoughts curse of the witch is way to good and may just want to be weaker but scaling with hopelessness damage buff that caps a bit lower instead of just 100% flat damage buff. Runic staff was legit better then every common and uncommon weapon I got the fire pillar staff with multiple items buffing it felt weak by comparison. also i got stuck going through what seemed like infinite rooms at the beginning and had to kill myself because nothing could kill me unless I let them If that's meant to go on forever till you die you may just want to introduce a room flat out designed to kill you. weapon balance and infinite room thing aside its a pretty good game you may just want to buff some of your uncommon weapons they mostly seemed weak and melee outside one weapon I got just felt bad and that weapon still didn't feel that good. never got a rare or legendary weapon so have no clue how good they are.

Are there any spells/trinkets that allow me to summon creatures for allies? Like phantasmal elemental beasts of nature that will devour my foes or unleash frightening displays of primordial magic upon them?
Ally items are in the works, but not enabled yet. They are a bit too janky at the moment. But I have a big plan for summoning allies. Also, your own items that empower you will empower them too. So an item that triples your attacks, will triple all your minions attacks too, etc...
Yesss, I hope it's not just random mook mercenaries or skeletons/zombies.
I wouldn't mind summoning something that seems like a boss either, I just wish more games would just do that...just let you unleash something like a cataclysmic God and have it stick around, maybe have a skill/item set that gives it commands so you are still playing and guiding it in a manner of speaking so that you can't just go and take a nap while it clears the room.

Personally I'm tired of getting the ability to summon stuff and the only thing they give me are dead things like skeletons and zombies, and I say this as a big fan of Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness. I'm just a big fan of summoning in general and would like to have exotic creatures instead of just randumb necromancy all the time.

Call me shit, but I have no idea what you're thinking with the slime tunnels. The map is fricking huge, spaces are tiny, and if you try to rush ahead you're just gonna get swarmed so you are strongly encouraged to take them on one at a time, which means that you're going to spend fricking forever down in one place. Rat tunnels are ass as well, if moderately less ass.
Did you make sure to advertise it as a Rogue-like Metroidvania Souls-like Dungeon Crawler even though it is none of those things like a good indy dev?
