Why? He's a generic tutorial npc that robotically dumps info on various locations in the world. I'm actually not even sure why they did that, seems counterintuitive to organically exploring and learning about the world. It's sort of weird, you can spoil like 3/4 the game by just talking to him.

The player needs grounding in an alien world to not turn them off it. I think Morrowind does generally have too much exposition, but Caius doesn't actually give away too much, he just tells you about the factions (because he thinks you should join one) and a few other current events. As far as tutorial NPCs, he's one of the best ever as far as character wise.

He is the Mentor in the Hero's Journey, and is very well-done, which is why people still remember him fondly decades later. He guides you and slowly introduces you to the world and the background lore, with his early quests providing a scaffolding for slowly unraveling the puzzle of the Nerevarine, step by step, and why the Empire gives a shit. He's a flawed character (he partially went native and is a drug addict, he was likely sent to bumfrick nowhere due to troubles with powerful figures at court) but he always deals fairly with the main character. Finally, once you're up and running and understand what's going on, he gives you some sweet gifts and leaves the game, as you can handle the rest on your own. He doesn't overstay his welcome.

It's probably the best example of the merging narrative and the gameplay tendencies of gamers (to ignore the main quest and go side quest for three years) I can think of, he literally says "you're a level 2 scrub, go frick off and get some experience. Go join some guilds, go do some side quests, go adventuring, go exploring, I don't give a shit, just come back here when you're stronger."

      Anonymous

      >you're a level 2 scrub, go frick off and get some experience
Oblivion should've had a jumping off point for the main quest like this. First you can hand off the amulet, but then there's an eternally burning city, and when you hand off the bastard, the amulet is gone.. I just want to adventure for god's sake!

In Skyrim it's easier to ignore informing the jarl or to grab the Dragonstone that starts the whole dragon menace debacle.

They should really make the mod completely standalone, with a main character that is not the nerevarine. Having to even set foot on vanilla morrowind content for then to go to TR lands makes the original game feel cheap as frick

Nah. The shittiest quest in TR is a god tier quest in vanilla morrowind. And the land and cities are obviously bigger and more detailed, but that's a matter of technology so it's not fair to compare to a game made for computers of 2002

                Anonymous

The questline was linear, the NPC prose was bad, and the plotline wasn't particularly memorable. There wasn't really anything good about it, just felt like vacuous filler to populate the map. Like these aren't things that motivate me to explore the town and talk to the colorful residents there, because there's not anything interesting there in the first place, it's just hunting for a npc to advance the quest line repeated a few times. That's not good quest design.

                Anonymous

I disagree, there's a majority of quests that have multiple choices and outcomes, and the writing is on par with the base game. Personally I think it has a lot more charm even. Your definition of good quest design is pretty vague(for shitposting purposes no doubt)

Not him, but isn't Helnim as well as several other smaller settlements considered as newer towns that have fairly recently been constructed? I don't think they should all be hyper detailed like Old Ebonwatch because that kind of detracts from the immersion.

                >I don't think they should all be hyper detailed like Old Ebonwatch because that kind of detracts from the immersion.
Shouldn't a small town be more detailed than cities because it's not full of bugmen? When a small town has shit content it's a lot more noticeable. In a good game those should be the strongest parts.

      This.

There was some cut content in Morrowind. There was supposed to be another village up north, west of Dagon Fel, there is dialogue referring to it but it doesn’t exist game. There’s some cut quests that are hinted at in game as well but specifics elude me. Also, many of the sixth house bases that aren’t involved in any quests are quite bare bones and empty by Morrowind standards. One of them has a weird item to use, fountain of something, forgetfulness maybe? that does nothing and was clearly part of a cut quest.

That part was pretty funny. I promised what’s her face I wouldn’t crack any Ordinateur skulls when she gave me the key, so I just timed it so I didn’t run into any of them in the halls (they kinda frick you by implying you should enter the door next to her which has a guaranteed conflict, but if you enter via the next door down you can skip that encounter) and in the very last room, with the open air pens, I had 100+ str and 100 speed/acrobatics/athletics and so I just leaped like a chad halfway across the room while the virgin ordinators stumbled around like ants. Then I made sure I returned the key to the nice lady before i divine interventioned out.

Man I just squatted this morning for the first time since new years because I am moronic and thought I’d do cardio on the rowing machine and switch to cutting weight, but I hate cardio and can’t be assed to stick with it consistently and I crippled the shit out of my adductors and started cramping up after barely warming up. Extremely embarrassing and now I probably can’t walk tomorrow.

Leg exercises are my least favorite for that reason lol. I hate cardio too but love the stamina gains, been thinking of getting a rowing machine for some time

The last six posts were all one person.

It's the moron that bumps the following all together every day:
      Every bethesda thread
      Every final fantasy thread
      Every console era bioware thread
He does this to every thread in the catalogue pertaining to these games, maybe makes a couple more threads about them, and then talks to himself or responds to 2 week old posts for the 3rd or 4th time. Every day he does this.

Thanks for your report, agent Schizo. I'm promoting you to the rank of Blades Apprentice. When you're ready, come back to me for more orders.

It’s funny because I was having a conversation with at least one other anon, while he was sperging out about “you’re just one person posting to yourself”. He just wanted attention so I didn’t give him any (yous)

It's better to ignore. Man took too much sugar and now sees the emperor's enemies everywhere.
