I think it's really cool that a 30 year old game preserves such a nice look. No graphics, just has a feel to it.

I just meant the graphics are really old frens. I know the computer is producing visuals. What a specific thing to fixate on

But yeah. Nothing else has the same speed and flow to it. Everything is so tight and polished. Not only is it a classic game, it's a milestone in digital expression and virtual imagery. As in, the engine. The art is also iconic, but mostly carried by the engine

I was there, I remember the hype threads, this was before "boomer shooter" was even a fricking thing. It was extremely faithful to the original, TOO faithful though, because as fun as it was, its not the best of the era, and recreating it just reminded everybody of that.

For the most part it still looks good. A lot of Sandy Peterson's maps look like shit though, especially in Doom 2. I'm still trying to figure out what the frick he was going for with the map Nirvana in Doom 2 and why he decided to texture an entire building with the fireblu texture in the Mt. Erebus level in Doom 1.

Modern games tend to throw in all kinds of clutter and shit. It just becomes a blob of stuff your brain can't distinguish. But here, it's simple to parse even when running. You're standing on a brain, there are some trees, and the sky is red. This is imagery that can embed itself into your brain.

Also it helps that the levels only vaguely resemble real places. It gives it a dream/nightmare quality. Modern level design are easily recognizable as "real" places. Less room for the imagination to do anything.

is Doom eternal similar to doom 2016?
                I don't really like doom 2016.

This REALLY depends on what you didn't like about D2016 because it doubles down on some stuff but executes it with much more confidence. It also has more colors than red, brown and gray and has 2-3 times more enemies in most encounters. I love it. Pirate it to try, or buy on sale, it goes for pretty cheap on pretty much every sale. Just don't make the mistake of buying the DLCs without campaign, people do it all the time for some reason.

I honestly don't know then, I thought D2016 guns were pretty fun, I just thought the difficulty vanished mid-game and the levels blurred together. I'd try DE. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you'll hate it. Just don't get filtered by the first 2-3 levels.
