you're going to completely miss out on any chance to have fun with it because the guy that fricks you in the ass and face is going to tell you to "go ww barb/frozen orb sorc/bone necro" and you'll pick a sub-optimal guide for that build and be total dead weight.
You'd have to play through the game solo without guides to have fun and get a feel for the game's mechanics before you'd have a good time playing multi with someone who's already familiar with it.

Also, remaster of D2 is actually one of the rare examples of almost everything done right, and in some cases they even went beyond the base game (ie. they added some raped/tortured amazons to some of the dungeons that weren there in the original lol)
