Dyna > Tera > Z-Moves > Megas
It's just more versatile and interesting in its applications man, so much you can do with it which leads to interesting battles, strategies, and plays. It feels like it never gets boring because you always have to think extra hard when Dynamax is a factor compared to anything else. The moveset of your pokemon has to both double as regularly viable and good under Dynamax. Considering a status move for Max Guard, or a Flying move for Airstream, it adds multiple layers to team building and decision making that other gimmicks just do not have... but I guess I'm just wrong if everyone disagrees with me

    Dynamax was smarter in practice
Tera is smarter in the fantasy world in people's heads where depth of interactions=how many status moves work

      Attacking Z-Moves sucked
Status Z-Moves were great, but highly situational because then you'd be facing down a nuke from your opponent

I loved Z-Moves. They made more sense than Mega Evolutions since the core of Pokémon had been about using actual moves, so something that could make one move stronger or give it different applications was pretty awesome, and a natural way to improve upon one of the gameplay aspects rather than just a stat upgrade, but I still love Mega Evolutions too. If I had my way, we'd still have Z-Moves AND Mega Evolutions, and never gotten Dynamax. Dynamax screams, "The higher ups want us to have something amazing to show off for a trailer."

Same thing that stops me from using Flutter Mane or some other broken shit. Who fricking cares if you can technically use it to, you should have multiple counterplay to something? Besides the 3 Legendaries using their signature moves, gimmick trick strats, and Dynamaxing at the right time, there is 0 counterplay to Dynamax. And all 3 are limited too. Dynamax Cannon does not work against Fairies and all 3 moves are stuck to restricted Pokemon and 1 of which is shit. Tricking Eject Button requires 2 slots dedicated to Tricker and non-immune priority mon, and can easily go wrong. And Dynamaxing yourself needs to be at the right time or else you immediately lose due to amount of snowballing Dynamax can cause.

There is also the issue of how Dynamax negatively affects the Metagame. Let’s say you’re a dumbass and still believe it’s fine that a central mechanic has only a few exclusive means to be countered, 1 of which is using the mechanic itself. What happens to the meta depends on if its Singles or Doubles. In Singles, the only viable play styles are the 2 extemes of full on Stall or HO with multiple Dynamax abusers. Stall can outlast Dyna with Regen, Unaware, and Haze. HO will just find 1 free turn to set up and now you just instantly win the game right then and there. Gameplay follows as “guess right 1 time and instantly win the match”, making the meta completely shallow.
Similar things happen with Doubles by dumbing down the game, but instead slowing down the pace. Average VGC match last for way like more than double the turns in previous Gens. It was very easy for something (aka the Dynamax user) to stay forever because they not only had double HP, but boosted their defenses, their Ally’s defenses, and almost certainly had screens up too. Like with Singles, Doubles was dumbed down with Dynamax with shit like Wide Guard and Encore being erased while Protect/Fake Out were less prominent.

So you think switching is broken because you need to switch yourself to reliably counter it, right?

            Anonymous

No, because you do not need to switch in order to counter switching.
Additionally, without switching, the game would be braindead. Without Dynamax, the game becomes far more intelligent and big brain.

Also, consider taking Bob Barker’s advice and apply it to yourself, so you don’t spread your moron genes.

There's a difference between needing to bring a specific thing to a battle in advance in order to be able to reliably counter and win and just using a mechanic that the game allows everyone to use. That's like comparing grabbing in Smash to having a dedicated down special to reflect. Literally every character can grab, and every Pokemon can Dynamax. If you deliberately choose not to use the tools the game gives you, that's your own issue.

        Anonymous

If anyone can use it at any time this becomes irrelevant, it becomes more of a question of how you use it and how effectively you do. You could stack speed buffs, or go for changing the weather and terrain. If you wanna tank some hits, you could go for defense buffs, or you could even try to stall out the opposing Dynamax with Max Guard.

if your counter to a mechanic is that same mechanic, that mechanic is unbalanced dogshit

There was no multilevel strategies with overcoming Dynamax. You either Dynamaxed yourself, were strong enough to out muscle it even with the inflated HP before it got out of hand, or had something fast enough that it could revenge kill after Dynamax ended.

          >There was no multilevel strategies with overcoming Dynamax

dynamax could have been fine for the game if not for the hp/bp increase and it just made your moves have added effects
instead it's the worst mechanic they've ever come up with. the only good thing about dynamax is that we all knew it would be dead and forgotten by the next game

  10. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

You're not alone. Dynamax was the best gimmick. It gave you team building options for terrain and weather without needing to bring dedicated setters. This meant you'd always have a sleep answer, always have a priority answer, etc. It also let you pass buffs to Pokemon that wouldn't otherwise get them, letting you do things like make frail pokemon tanky, or tanky Pokemon stronger.

            >Then why are there shitters like (You) who cry about not being able to play around it?
Because you fricking can’t without using hyper specific shit or Dynamaxing yourself.
            Let’s do a hypothetical.
Let’s say there exists a Pokemon with 255 in each stat, has an ability like Huge Power but applies to every stat and additionally adds the effects of Soundproof+Magic Guard+Wonder Guard+Levitate+Flash Fire+Neutralizing Gas (for the opponent only though), was a Steel/Ghost type, and learned Sketch 4 times.
This by all means is a broken Pokemon, and beyond basic teambuilding and control knowledge, requires no further intelligence to use successfully. Noticably, there is also no way to effectively counter this Pokemon without using said Pokemon or some incredibly niche strat that isn’t consistent or useful for anything else. The only real counterplay is hoping your opponent fricks up royally.
Dynamax is similar to a less extreme because things you can do against Dynamax are incredibly niche or praying that your opponent fricks up.

potential alternative means to getting rid of dynamax like forcing switches, flinching, or utilizing the uncommon HP-based moves that should be more powerful with the greater HP were disabled because gamefreak didn't actually want dynamax to have a variety of counterplay options, they wanted it to be a flashy gimmick for players to rely on

  19. 11 months ago

dynamax may have been interesting from a battle standpoint, enabling any pokemon to add utility to their moves, but there's no denying it was ridiculously powerful. gaining double health, dealing a Z-move's worth of damage, and stat-upping/setting weather all in the same turn for three turns is just too strong
also, conceptually it's boring as hell, but this is more about battle applications

  20. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

That pic is just wrong. One of the problems with Dynamax is it makes all the Pokemon more similar to each other and invalidates like half the mechanics in the game. It literally simplifies everything. You see a Flying Pokemon Dynamax? Watch it use Max Airstream at least once. It's practically guaranteed. At least megas still interact with all the normal rules.
