Why do you think the game feels rushed and half of the missions are copy/pasted, and that he opens every single mission, segment, cutscene, etc. by injecting "DIRECTED BY HIDEO KOJIMA"? It was because he knew he was getting booted off the franchise and wanted to give one last FUCK YOU to Konami.

Every MGS game Kojima directed was going to be the last MGS game, according to Kojima. You are a zoomer.

Yes, if he wasn't fired, he would have probably been working on MGSVI right after V.

                >Why do you think the game feels rushed and half of the missions are copy/pasted
In every MGS game, when you complete it, a new difficulty gets unlocked. From what I recall (it's been 7 years now) you do not have to do them to finish the game. But if you want the Raiden suit, you have to S rank them all.

I'm 31 as well and I too believe MGS1 is a true 10/10 product, but every MGS game after 1 was slated to be "the last one!!!1"

It doesn't prove anything, retard. Every game ever made has cut content or plans that get shifted for a sequel or a dlc. Literally every one of them. Go youtube "cut content" for any number of big title games. Liquid is not a central part of MGSV.

No shit. That was the cop-out "ending" they gave to him because everything else was cut/rushed. They literally spent years with trailers building him up, and then the entire game too, only for him to just die a measly death and nothing he ever did had any consequences. You could cut him out of the game entirely and just made up a different reason for why Wolbachia exists and it would be the exact same game.

                >Every single MGS game has some loose plot thread that gets addressed in a sequel
MGSV was LITERALLY advertised as being THE game that was going to tie up all loose ends of Big Boss that hasn't ever been answered. It was meant to answer all questions, but it ended up hardly answering any questions and just adding a dozen new questions.

Skull Face exists to facilitate the character drama on mother base. He's a point of obsession used to justify Diamond Dogs' military campaigns. Yes you could cut him out of the game, but our protagonists would find the need to invent him. After he dies, there's no catharsis, so Kaz/Ocelot make it a point to summon a new enemy. The game's story is much less literal than MGS4 because it refuses to concede that BB is a villain, instead leaving that decision to the player. Your expectations are out of alignment if you thought it was going to explain everything.

                Anonymous

Liquid, Mantis and Sahelanthropus is just one of the things that shows that the game is objectively unfinished and didn't provide what it set out to do.

The other big elephant in the room is that we don't know what the fuck the real big boss was doing all along either, which is what the game advertised that it would finally solve. Then there's also things like Frank Jaeger, Zanzibar, what's the situation with Venom vs Big Boss(who dies, who lives, how did no one ever know/notice, etc.), why does Quiet just peace out instead of sticking around, why doesn't Quiet just write on paper to communicate, why wasn't the Chico storyline explored, etc.

It's all one gigantic mess that just opened so many more questions than it answered, and the game set out to answer everything and tie up loose ends.

Not hard to guess since it's a prequel. Liquid and Mantis becam torrorist buddies and Saly became a prototype for Rex. I think the episodic format of the game was made with the intention to release more DLC in the future, not only mission 51, but the core game is there

plot threads can be left open for sequels or for dlc. Obviously, the main antagonists of MGSV are Skullface and Volgin. Side characters are definitely allowed to impact the main plot, but Liquid is not the main point of interest in MGSV.

It's unfinished, missing the third chapter of the game. The game was nothing like Ground Zero for 99% of the game. Because you let media control your opinion, after being fired from Konyami Creatividad went full Patriot AI and constructed "context" and "narrative" (=naive rrat) to make everyone believe Konami didn't let him finish the game. This may cause some "conflicts" with audience's "internal timeline" "for a S-Special reason."

That is not an explanation for how you could have the foresight to see the Moby Dick Studios stunt and then conclude that the trailers are lying and the game must end up becoming lackluster, rushed and unfinished.

MGS2 works on multiple levels though. Raiden switch works because we still get a new MGS game, just improved. You could say that for MGSV as well as it might be one of the best open world stealth 'em ups out there.
But MGS2 also had a (somewhat) coherent plot that at the end of the game felt as if it was resolved. We weren't explicitly promised to see the transformation of a villain twenty something years in the making in every trailer for MGS2.
Kojima is just a Japanese dev that really wants to take JP wordplay and references and use English sources.
The whole game is a fucking Bowie reference and you should feel bad for liking the plot.

Genuinely a contender for Kojima's masterpiece, his most unconventionally told narrative, an even greater brainlet filter than MGS2 was. It's hilarious seeing brainlets argue about of it's finished or not when every artistic medium is full of unfinished works that are considered masterpieces regardless for their ambition and craft.

  23. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

    >Lastly, the interview talked about the idea of MGSV being ‘unfinished’, as many are claiming. Yano had this to say about it: “I think there were two stages to this. First, you had a certain number of players who finished Chapter 2 not long after the game came out and went, “What? This Snake wasn’t the real Big Boss!?” It’s similar to the way people reacted to MGS2 (laughs). Some players couldn’t accept that there was a new main character, Raiden, and they got really angry. But now MGS2 is considered a masterpiece. MGSV is a much longer game than MGS2, so it’s like its length amplified that feeling.” He also feels that the absence of Kingdom of the Flies (Mission 51) is not a direct cause of this. “Up until Episode 46, The Man Who Sold the World, players experience the story as Snake, but then they suddenly have the rug pulled out from under them. They find out that they themselves were Big Boss. Then it becomes their story. They themselves participated in the massacre on Mother Base, Quiet’s disappearance, Huey’s exile. I think The Kingdom of the Flies became an outlet for venting all the unease and confusion that followed that revelation. But really, this fits right into what Kojima-san wanted.”
    >The sensation of ‘phantom pain’, so to speak, ties into the Moby Dick references as well. “This is a slight digression, but this feeling of MGSV not being over, this feeling of things being unresolved, these are also present with Moby-Dick.”
    >Apparently the early reviews for Moby Dick were TERRIBLE because of that missing epilogue and other missing sections (35 passages missing from the American edition).
    >We cannot say that we recognize in this writer any advance on the admirable qualities displayed in his earlier books—we do not see that he even greatly cares to put forth the strength of which he has shown himself undoubtedly possessed." -London Examiner, November 1851

Goddamn this sounds so fucking stupid. It's like a 13 year old trying to lie his way out of something. No one was confused or uneasy about not having played Big Boss. MGS V was truly at its best during all the linear segments. The opening hospital, the mansion, the bases, the zombie hospital bay, the motherbase scenes, etc.

The open world shit added literally nothing to the game. Kojima just saw GTA V and was convinced that MGS V needed to be open world too, for some weird ass reason.

Hey! I love MGSV. I just wish there was more reason to play around with all of its depth. It's fun as fuck but a lot of it is pointless. Imagine if they forced you to explore some of the games deeper mechanics. You can get through most of the game just playing with basic equipment and not really understanding how various mechanics interact with each other

            Anonymous

It's true. I often times just loaded out with a basic sniper and a tranq pistol. I didn't NEED a grenade launcher and an anti-material rifle... but I did use them quite often.

But also. Try doing the FOB missions. The ones that reward you with a new costume or a new gun. Those tend to push you to the game's limits. I find myself having to use mines, decoys, rocket launchers, anti-material rifles, the heaviest set of armor, etc. etc. The guards are equipped with the best stuff and you often have to fight parasite units in those missions as well. Try it out if you want the game to push you back a bit. They're good stuff.

You literally just posted a screenshot of a place that I would describe as one of those "linear segments". It's like a big box of a linear level that was very well designed and then they just plopped it into the open world, but it doesn't interact with the open world or serve any purpose for the open world in any way.

The open world is literally just there as a way of traveling between "big linear boxes". Your screenshot is one of those boxes, so is the mansion, so is the airport, and so on.

            >but it doesn't interact with the open world or serve any purpose for the open world in any way.
Yeah it does, it's connected to the rest of the world. So for example, if you create havoc in one area, nearby bases are alerted. Unless you take out the communication towers. The sandbox mechanics are very solid

              Anonymous

              >So for example, if you create havoc in one area, nearby bases are alerted
But all those "big linear box" areas aren't near any bases. If you wreck havoc there, it doesn't affect anything. It doesn't change anything in the world.

            Anonymous

One of the linear segments of the game takes place there, but it is in the open world and you can go there any time. The Airport, the mansion, all the various bases, they are part of the open world.

              >they are part of the open world
They are IN the open world, but they aren't PART of it. Nothing you do in any of those segments affect anything in the world around it. There is also 0 difference between if you run through the world to get to the location or if you just teleport straight to the location.

The open world is only there to make the game seem larger by scale, which it does fairly well. The only problem is that the world feels so fucking empty and pointless, aside from those linear box areas.

It's still the open world. It's not like the china town segment of GTA3 is invalidated because a story mission takes place there and you have a shootout with the triads. It's still a location you can revisit any time. That's the point.

there's a dozen or more missions that involve enemies and objectives travelling between locations in the open world. And consequently you can take advantage of this to, for example, beat the enemy to their destination, set up ambushes, intercept targets in poorly defended areas, or even handle other priorities first. And in at least fully half of the missions you can use the open persistent geometry to tackle a mission from radically different routes. Actively taking advantage of the open world is a constant element of the game, I have no idea where this meme that it serves no purpose comes from. I found them to be a bit inconsistent. I also remember an africa airport side ops where a gunship circled around the terminal close to the roof but it couldn't spot me standing on it and knocking out 3 dudes...
To be honest I was a bit disappointed that the more important main story missions weren't like Ground Zeroes. Hell, GZ really tricked me and set my expectations to something else.

MGS4. But in 5, dudes are fucking blind for the most part. The vision cones are almost too small unless there's light on you

Those heavily plated dudes have a slightly smaller cone of vision. Guards that are perched up somewhere have really big cones of vision.

enemies with a sniper get a passive vision bonus in a narrow cone, when you shot with some weapons enemies swivel in your direction
that's why sometimes you can run at their 2 with no consequence, but if you lay down, behind a barrel with just a toe sticking out they'll instantly catch you

Honestly, if the V was just 15 Ground Zeros with cool boss fights and Mother Base as it is, I'd be satisfied. Maybe even a few areas bigger than Ground Zeros with small camps that interact with each other so you still have a reason to have vehicles and bases interacting with each other. So in essence, a semi-open world concept. That way you get the best of MGS3 and 4, and V.

Why do MGSV apologists get so mad when you people point out that the Hitman approach to open stealth design was vastly superior?

All the interesting stuff is in the camps anyway, the open world sucked, afghanistan was a vastly superior map to africa due to being more linear and controlled, and the missions literally segment the map to begin with. It literally just exists for side-ops, collecting animals and the occasional "big" mission like Back Up, Back Down. Could have easily been cut up into 10-15 smaller maps that take place in different parts of the world instead. Hell one of them could even be an empty desert with 2-3 camps and outposts where you have to Fulton tanks so you fags get your boring "open world" shit.

No, it's good as it is. Missions don't force you to run across the whole map like RDR or whatever. The structure is similar to maps of previous MGS except without load screens between the sectors, main missions take place in GZ type levels and don't force you to take a heil out like in that game.

This depend son what you love about MGS. The gameplay tropes, sandbox feel, and other traditions are ever present and better than ever actually. So if you are just a gameplay guy, aside for the weak boss fights, MGSV will be an amazing game. If MGS2 3 or 4 were you favorite, you might be more disappointed. This is probably the best way to sum up the game. The controls, the gunplay, the guns, the gadgets, the movement, the aiming, etc. etc. are all amazing and fun.

However, the game is very lackluster as a MGS game if you consider that most MGS fans really enjoy a big focus on story and perfectly crafted linear levels.

If those 20 extra hours explained shit like the things mentioned here, then yes

You know why people made such a big deal out of the cut content in MGSV? Because it wasn't a movie. Think about it.

    >MGS is known for being extremely cinematic
    >MGS4 was literally a movie
    >MGSV is focused on being a game
    >normalfags get baited into playing another cinematic experience by MGSfags high on hype
    >they love the Prologue which is literally a movie, but say the game goes downhill right after that
    >even though that's where the actual fucking game starts
    >they average normalfag movie """""gamer""""" finds out that things get cut from games and make a huge deal out of it
    >they start to seethe even more because of the twist ending trolling them
    >MGSfags lose their shit because the downfall of Big Boss doesn't fit their headcanon
    >everyone is seething because they got a fun game instead of another movie

Funny how MGS2 has way more cut content but no one cares because it's a movie.

Do people really love the boring ass prologue? that it becomes even worse when you have to repeat it?
I just wanted to PLAY Level 51. If we were all moviegame gays we wouldn't complain as you can still watch it.

        Anonymous

The prologue is amazing. It's probably one of the best ones in all of vidya. The tone and ambience it sets is top tier. It starts off with mystery, then it has immediate action, then more mysteries, followed by supernatural shit, followed by explosions and military jumping down your throat, and then more mystery and at the end you're left thinking "if THAT is the opening, what the fuck is the rest of the game gonna be like?". Unfortunately the rest of the game never lived up to that standard.

Having said that, it could definitely have been improved 10x by not including that slow-ass segment where you're limping around and the parts where you are crawling around.

          Anonymous

See? all you're mentioning is mostly cutscenes. When I started limping in a straight line AGAIN the second time through I had to close the game and come back later.

it's been shit since the 90s. People literally can't name a memorable movie starting at the 90s that was as great as some of the greats from the 80s-before, because that was when movies were starting to become stereotypes and "copying what's popular", which is why - for example, animation - in the 90s was nothing but disney musicals and the people that were trying to ape them. Original and successful was much more few and far between, and everytime there WAS one like a terminator 2, fight club, titanic, or a mission impossible, copycats would follow and be of just enough quality to justify becoming franchises.

I will. Played it since finishing V. It's a completely different kind of game, but it's better at achieving what it sets out to do, and I also just enjoyed it more.

Though if you weren't around to play it when the PS1 gen was current, you'll probably (understandably) bounce off the presentation and controls.

MGSV is only fun if you play it like a retard.

Like covering your car in 50 mines and driving it into one of the 500 copy pasted outposts.

Twin Snakes is done using MGS2's engine/controls. I prefer it for the better graphics, the minor changes arent that bad, and it gets you ready for MGS2 by having the same controls.

Twin Snakes is more or less just a modded MGS 2 with MGS 1's level design and bosses. They don't really translate that well to 2's updated mechanics since for example shooting in first person breaks the game's difficulty.

I’m playing MGSV right now to 100% and it’s a bad game
    >run through desert/jungle for 10 mins
    >D-Dog sniffs out all the enemy at the outpost
    >tranq everyone with the pistol
    >extract, complete mission
and that’s the gameplay the first time you play it, second time and stealth/MGS goes out the window as you beeline for the objective and leave for the S Rank
and no by that point the “sandbox” doesn’t mean squat when the gear you’ll be using 100% of the time is
    >air shotgun (suppressed)
    >tranq assault rifle sniper (suppressed)
    >tranq semi auto pistol (suppressed)

the only fun you’ll get is from FOB invasions, because that shit somewhat resembles metal gear, you’re not a supersoldiers going up against 5 man outposts, you’re a sneaking through an oil rig with 50-70 heavily armored guards and a dozen devices out to stop you, and every tactic is viable, it’s where the sandbox truly kicks in

tldr - single player is fucked, only play it to progress and get gear to do funny shit in FOB missions

I honestly don’t think any plot point the game introduces is as bad as the MGS 3 codec crew being the big bad of MGS 4
    >False advertising, we don’t see BiBo downfall, we play as some literal who Medic
To be fair, his downfall starts in PO and continues in PW but Kojima portrays him as the good guy in those games so people don’t notice it. The false advertising is worse than 2’s because at least that game gives Solid a lot of screentime in Raiden sections and BiBo being a cunt to Venom and Kaz is brief and his degradation is never shown so that sucks. I knew about the twist though so I wasn’t that bothered about it.

            >wish I could have D-Dog running around the base
Yeah I wish we saw D-dog more often as well. But anyway, as far as your complaints about Quiet go, I don't know man. She's cute, when you bond with her she dances and shit. And has useful commands in missions. I also enjoyed visiting her sometimes in Mother Base. I guess I can understand indifference, but to dislike her is bizarre to me. She's utterly unoffensive.

              Anonymous

It annoys me that the game tries to make her a character despite she isn't much more of one than D-Dog. But she easily could've been. And also the whistling or humming was really really annoying to me during missions.

                Anonymous

Fair enough. I won't argue with any of those point. The humming can be hit or miss depending on my mood, and D-Dog deserved more development. He's just fucking cool. I guess it's also worth noting that I'm easy to amuse at this point. I like how Quiet flirts with Boss more as bond increases. But initially she's a bit cold. Little touches like that help immerse and amuse me. And no, I'm not pausing the game to jerk off. But I'm never *against* seeing a pretty girl show off.

From what I understand, the medic was willing to transform into Snake. The hypnosis requires that someone be totally willing to go under it. You cannot force someone to be hypnotized into someone else.

Something like this is REALLY not that big of a stretch considering the rest of the series. This is the same series where a kid is flying around psychically controlling a guy that's been dead for 20 years.

Anyone signed up with MSF would have been totally devoted to Big Boss and his cause but I don't think Medic had any knowledge of Zero's hypnotherapy plan or any willingness to go through with it, at least not consciously, iirc there's no evidence of Medic being aware of anything to do with it either. The trauma from the helicopter crash would have made it easy to implant those suggestions in someone however.

              Anonymous

That's the greater meaning of the game, which is muddled since they take your individuality away in V to prove that you are nothing unless you emulate someone better

                Anonymous

the series has always emphasized that circumstances and choice are both the most significant factors in defining a person it's by no means muddled in V because the series explored different sides of this idea for 20 years.

                Anonymous

V's real message is that anyone can be Snake/Big Boss. It's about the player finally becoming the person they've been idolizing after all these years.

                Anonymous

V has a lot if different messages and I don't think it can be neatly bundled down into a single monologue the way the previous gamed could be and a lot of it's big ideas can be read in two ways, supporting the theme of doublethink. Like on one hand the ending rejects the idea from MGS2 that the character needs to be emancipated from the player (Raiden throwing away his dog tags with the player's name) and instead admitting that player and game designer both build a story together (we're both bibo). But on the other hand you can see it as bibo overwriting another person's agency and desires, doing the same thing that was done to the boss, his ultimate villainous act.

The static weather of ground zeroes was unironically superior to the dynamic weather in TPP. It was much more kino having a mission specifically designed around taking place on a rainy night with characters wearing raincoats and shit, and then another mission in the same location taking place in the middle of the day; giving it a completely different feel.

In TPP it's just "rain incoming" and then it lasts for maybe 2 minutes and is gone. Also what the fuck is ever the point of NOT doing a night infiltration? Guards FOV become so much shittier and it's still easy as fuck for the player to see.

      Anonymous

I do wish that the weather was more important in V. The rain coats as you mention were just a cool detail. It would have sufficed enough if weather just lasted longer. It's understandable that sandstorms only last about 3 minutes. But Rain should last a whole mission

Yes. It was MGSV that made the story into a convoluted mess. Not 2 or 3 or 4. It was all V's fault. kek.

as you should be if you listen to ANY interview with Kojima he is the worst thing to happen to MGS and always has been. HELL if he had his way we would be using voice controls for everything, and fighting freaking sharks with freaking lasers and their freaking heads!

Little known fact about MGSV, you can just play as a waifu. Anyone that you collect into mother base is a selectable character and deployable for missions.

And for that reason this game is BASED.

Agreed, it's really cool but Venom's Inspector Gadget arm is tough to part with.
