I've never played Fallout, but his card in MtG looks fun. Don't know how accurate it is to his character, but most of the dice-related cards in MtG use d20s, so that first effect is very heavily weighted in your favor.

I'm pretty sure the "whenever you roll a 4 or higher" is referring to when you roll for the second ability.

The first ability will trigger off the second, but it will also trigger off of any dice roll, including the various d20 rolls from the D&D sets.

Magic has gone full Fortnite and it pisses all of the players off. There's crossovers for all kinds of moronic shit and a lot of them have unique mechanics or really good cards so players are forced to engage with them to compete. And then even the more reasonable crossovers, like LotR, have shit like Black Aragorn and Gandalf the Black. MtG has gone full-moron and done all of the terrible things the designers said they would never do.

ironically, it wasn't the intent, but the statue, opening narration and tandi all refer to the vault dweller as a he.
according to avellone, they originally intended for the VD's gender to be ambiguous. the statue was supposed to be female if your character was a female.
that plan got forgotten, I guess.

Isn't one in three quests in fallout 1/2 just blatantly unfinished anyway? Even new vegas isn't well patched.
Honestly if they're going to build on top of what the previous MC has done they're better off just making them a canon character. Their actions are canon anyway. The 25 year fallout anniversary picture had one of the presets to represent the VD iirc.

technically, Albert Cole was used in the anniversary picture, but if you want to split hairs, there's nothing officially stating Cole was THE Vault Dweller, (although he probably was as far as anyone cares, but it will probably never be confirmed).

                >educated to prewar standarts vs illiterate
                >healthy vs no teeth
The only thing I could see a wastelander having over a vault dweller is MAYBE fitness. But then again, some vaults are shown to have gyms and physical exercize regiments. Also, being active doesn't benefit you so much when you're literally at the verge of starvation for most of your life. The average wastelander would be significantly shorter than a vault dweller.

It's because all the choices are flawed. It's impossible to come up with a perfect ending no matter how hard you try. So it's easy for people to poke holes in each faction while ignoring their own faction's shortcomings.

House isn't flawed or at least isn't as flawed as the other factions. Obsidian made it so you had no choice but to kill the Brotherhood under House because they knew literally everyone would choose him if it wasn't for that.

I think as far as House and his flaws go that he's ultimately better than both major options for the Hoover Dam. Simply because he is an old man hung up in his own bubble, doesn't make him useless. He wants to oversee the operations, feel important, and basically get back on track to where he was before producing consumer goods. I provide him a sense of security, a think tank full of opportunities for him to exert his innovation, and I get to enjoy all the pleasure of being the most powerful man in the comfiest place in the wastes with less than half the responsibility.

People think you're just some stooge for taking House. But I like to see it more as being Darth Vader, or even Tony Soprano. You get all the advantages of being the defacto leader because House can't physically be in any place, but also he gets to enjoy the responsibilities and the accountability while you just have to collect your dues.

He's incredibly passive-aggressive any time you do anything he dislikes, for example if you make peace with the Brotherhood he basically tells you you're moronic and that they're going to be your biggest enemies (even though you might have amazing relations with them in game)
There's obvious, simmering anger in Yes Man which is only kept in check by his programming, programming he removes no matter what choices you make

You become Caesar's heir. I could see him grooming you to succeed him

Lanius is Caesar's heir, you're a big-dick mercenary he hired one time and likes a lot

One day I got bored of doing optimal runs and doing the right thing, so I actually went on a mass terrorism run against all the factions and the Strip. I committed mass shootings and blew up entire bases and compounds. I basically wiped everybody off the map. Then I realized I was locked out of a lot of shit and that most NPC's spawn back, so it was fun at first but you run out of shit to do besides exploring, but it was still fun trying to salvage any actual quests with everybody shooting you in sight. You basically have to be the Master of Disguise and sneak to the quest NPC's.

OWB implies that the Courier goes back to Big MT to keep the Think Tank's autism in check while steadily introducing technology to the world like affordable cybernetics and teleportation. All things considered Big MT has great potential for becoming the main centre of innovation in the wasteland provided that the surrounding facilities get reactivated again. One of them being an artillery testing range and production facility for Saturnite munitions. If any major power got their hands on that stuff they would make the Boomers look like a bunch of smalltime chumps with their firework launchers.
Generally speaking the whole location is a treasure trove of R&D just waiting to be kicked into maximum overdrive.

But House didn't fail protecting the city at large? While vault tec was literally run by traitors to US people, ultimately, much like Enclave, it'd be hard for people responsible for orchestrating the events not to know about them. The strip is a tiny chunk of Vegas (yes, game limitations but even generously, he didn't save much outside of his own base) meanwhile the vault next door is so successful he seethes and concretes it up.

I don't care what OP is talking about.
Independent is the worst choice because it's the Reddit option. And yes, I WILL explain.
Aside from the silly, funny memey mascot, (which itself only serves to make it the joke option which reddit-minded men love because they gravitate almost violently to insincerity and ironic motivations) and the infantilization of the game it provides to get away from those icky sociological questions and considerations of motivations; there is one undeniable fact of the independent route.
It's nothing more than the FRICK YOU MOM FRICK YOU DAD FRICK YOU TEACHER ACAB route for redditors who think they'd be able to run our societies better than everyone else, because they're YOUNG and PROGRESSIVE!

Yes Man fans remind me of the redditor during the beginning of the George Floyd protests who was saying that if the police arrest protestors then those protestors will, in the prison, teach the inmates about communist doctrine. That by arresting the protestors, they will create an army against them in the prisons. And when people tried to explain that prison inmates aren't going to listen to some scrawny whiteboy carrying on about Stalin and Che, he refused to listen and actually said the inmates would inherently understand his academic intelligence in the matter.
Independencegays genuinely think that when the courier starts going from town to town demanding the people follow his plans for the Mojave, he won't get domed, because the people would simply understand the courier knows better because he is very intelligent.

If you're picking independent to frick up the region however, that's good roleplaying.

Why would you even bother reading all that reddit garbage to begin with, mister?

        Anonymous

Because it was posted in a thread mocking the dumb shit redditors were saying during the protests. And the thought of some idiot genuinely thinking he'd be crowned rebel leader of a prison uprising because he taught them the writings of Karl Marx was hilarious enough to stick in my mind.

Some Funko Pol-Pop! having the Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings, and various other prison gangs uniting against systemic racism to defund the police is made even more comedic when he got real defensive when people said he was racist for assuming everyone in prison is uneducated and waiting for some white college kid to teach them.

There's only one real good ending. Ultimately, the Strip doesn't need a President, or a Caesar. It doesn't deserve a CEO or a Boss, or even a Great Khan. It deserves a King, and it's bullshit that Obsidian cucked out on this option.

Really? Why? Stay on the east coast or midwest todd you fricker

West coast, we've seen NCR flags, altough LA seems to be a shithole again. BoS seems to be a powerful faction again, but since there's a prydwen copy flying in, I assume that's reinforcements from the east. I actually wouldn't mind a story where the OP eastern brotherhood comes back home and has a war with the NCR.

technically, Albert Cole was used in the anniversary picture, but if you want to split hairs, there's nothing officially stating Cole was THE Vault Dweller, (although he probably was as far as anyone cares, but it will probably never be confirmed).

Yeah, it's been too long for it to really matter. Maybe we'll get info about the SS in the show or the next game. I just hope he's male for the sake of power armor lore.

Another one that you could do is a story on the Vipers. One of the three main raider tribes to come out of Vault 15 with the Jackals, Khans and the proto NCR. It can't really damage too much because by FNV they were reduced to a bunch of squabbling family units.

The Boneyard was still a shithole when Caesar was young according to him, but obviously that was a roughly 60 years before NV takes place.
But part of what's moronic is that the show's depiction of LA is 1:1 Megaton and doesn't resemble anything we've seen in Fo1 or could logically expect post Fo2 and post-NV.

LA should be reasonably settled over the years because of Followers, NCR and Gun Runner influence, I would think.

I'm hoping the shantytown we've seen is just that, a small settlment populated by the unfortunate of the NCR. I mean, the writers aren't total hacks afaik, but their dedication to the setting is yet to be seen.

Apparately they wrote the first season of westworld, which, I've been told, wasn't half bad. They're definitely not as bad as the writers a lot of these types of shows get, but it isn't saying a lot. There haven't been any quotes from them about being fallout fans, which would go a long way in making me even a little optimistic.

Bit of a tangent, but isn't it weird how NV got rid of DR in lieu of DT, but then had one item that still gives DR which makes it really OP because of how those two stack (and how DR is better than DT 99% of the time)
Any other mods you guys would reccomend? I'm looking for stuff that makes it more cohesive.

Remember that James's appearance is the one that changes depending on the LW's race during creation, but that James is canonically white -- so the Lone Wanderer is very likely to also be white.
Catherine was never seen in-game officially. Although her model was a black woman, she probably has no canon appearance.

Optional dialogue choices, besides, if he went westwards immediately after F3, he could have been in the NCR 'for years"
                >the courier can be set to any age and not just young adult

There's a lot of dialogue lying around the Mojave and in Lonesome Road that imply the Courier has been doing this job for a long ass while.

but yeah, it was a missed opportunity because not only is the lone survivor a pure human, but is also someone that lived before the war and had their spouse and child taken away as the world ending, You could really play up an enclave route as them not being able to move on from the past and as just using their propaganda of "Rebuilding America" as coup or you are still are under the delusion that the US government is still the good guys.

Fo3's caucasian Preset 6 looks like a lightskinned black if you give him a buzz cut, so i go with that

I need to gift a friend a game. Between FO3 and New vegas which one would be the best? (he already played FO4)

      Anonymous

New Vegas, both games are good but NV is just better. Its PC port is also more stable but he may have to mod the game (use Viva New Vegas) to get it working properly

      Anonymous

      Probably 3 first

      New Vegas.
FO3 has the shitty Bethesda writing that 4 does but with none of the technical improvements that 4 has, so it'll just feel tedious and backwards.
NV has a better story and frankly better gameplay as well.

does anyone else thing that the whole "old world bad" theme is the weakest part of the game? It's not like there was something inherent to the old world governments that started WW3, it was an energy crisis

An energy crisis caused by the old world

The opening narration of Fallout 1 presents the pre-war world as an inevitable collapse that happened entirely because of innate human behavior.
In-game Fallout 1 treats the war as simply a wiping of the slate. The past isn't dwelled on and people don't bemoan the loss of the luxuries of pre-war existence. Even for the oldest wastelanders, life began post-war in a vault and everything before then carries an almost biblical mystery.
I think the most urbane reference to pre-war in Fallout 1 is Killian talking about his grandfather was a pre-war US soldier.

      Anonymous

yeah the whole "let go of the past" message can be very moronic in some situations, especially if things actually do get worse and generally seems like something you say to just gaslight someone into just accepting bad shit happening to them especially if the gaslighting is being done by some upcoming dictator that doesn't want people to know that things were actually better before they took power.

Fallout 2's opening narration contains probably the most important statement in the franchise in regards to the theming.
      >War. War never changes.
      >The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had predicted. Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones.
That says everything about the setting's state. All roads lead down the same path because its always man pulling the trigger (so to speak). That's why The Master's plan was to change humans into a different being entirely.
