>indie game with pixel art
>full of post processing effects and soft shading and rotating pixels and mixed size sprites etc
Why to they keep doing this, no one think it looks good
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
DMT Has Friends For Me Shirt $21.68 |
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
It does look good
At that point, it would be better to just have the game become HD. The game is begging for it.
I promise you it would look 100 times worse if they did that. It takes far more skill to make a complete 2D game look good, even Nintendo tried and failed with Wario Shake it
No, it doesn't. It's jarring.
The effects might be beautiful but combined it's just weird
why are you so jaded, boomer
Not only it looks good, but it's easier yo have it look good like that than 3d models.
If the 3d models are not up to standard it will be much more noticeable than with pixels.
this visually mogs every SNES game, you are a nostalgia troony
Im-fricking-plying
This looks worse cause it was designed for CRT and most people dont have that, raw pixels are ugly
Nah, CRTs can make some pixel art look more appealing but there's nothing wrong with raw pixels, especially since it's possible to design pixel art for LCDs specifically
speak for yourself in the future
Im-fricking-plying that he's right? Because OP pic mogs the hell out of that.
Cool AI generated image.
This can be done dynamically in unity, try again.
>thread about modern pixelart looking like crap
>open image
>"oh well this actually looks good I wonder which modern ga..."
>it's from a snes game
it's too much work doing everything properly
Replace indie with square rpgs
Why do they do this
It's like "diabetes induced eyesight blurriness" mode but enabled by default with no way to turn it off
This and the stupid DoF + heavy bloom that shit like Octopath Traveler has is so fricking cancer.
I hope that fad dies quickly.
You can remove all that shit in octopath's config.ini
looks 1000 times better
That's what happens when you listen to CRThomosexuals.
is this a game?
Eastward
>no one think it looks good
one of the most baseline traits of psychopathy is the assumption that what you think personally is what everyone thinks universal.
YOU don't think it looks good.
OTHER people think it goods good.
PROOF: they keep doing it
take your meds
I also don't think it looks good.
Get fricked, idiot.
thats great, anon. as we all know, there's only 3 people in the universe: you, me, and OP. but even then, I think it looks good, therefor the statement "OTHER people think it goods good" is still correct, even if YOU don't think it looks good.
what was the point of your room temperature IQ reply, exactly?
wrong!
psychopathy is assuming what i personally think is what everyone thinks. but no we have OP, the other guy and now me who all think it's bad. with this much evidence is clear that everyone thinks it's bad and people who say otherwise are LIARS.
>b..bb...but people keep doing
yeah morons that's who
>everyone thinks it's bad
all the people in this thread saying they like it aren't apart of the totality of "everyone"?
>people who say otherwise are LIARS.
oh so you're incapable of processing the idea that other people think differently that you? hmm...
>yeah morons that's who
or maybe it keeps selling, so they keep doing it. if it didn't sell, people would just do 3d un UE and sell that instead
so you admit you're moronic 😉
I think it looks good also, but I'm not gonna be all aggressive about it like you. Never understood caring so much.
It looks good.
It's pixel art by choice, but not bound by the technical limitations of earlier days.
I do agree that blurrying the shit of the assets with filters is terrible tho.
Pixel art thread?
I've never seen a more poorly thought out project in development. It's like they want the depth of DF adventure mode but with the presentability of a pixelshit indie game so they end up releasing single quest "updates" once per year and posting assets on reddit the rest of the time. I wish the fricking morons just stopped trying to make every quest and encounter prebaked and made the game modular like all roguelikes have to be.
>mockup
Post an actual game
It's a real game, fool...
It's a Metal Slug clone made for IGM arcade (like Martial Masters).
Forgot its name though.
is that one of sonkun's shader?
This is my style, game?
SEYKEN: Crystal Kingdom
Games have had mixels since mode 7.
proofs
Not a pixel art game
>mario kart
>not a pixel art game
uhh, then what is it
btw even at the time we knew mode 7 was ass and it wasn't real "rotation" like arcade machines had
>Mixels
>Rixels
Because the art of unified or cohesive visual styles is unknown or these indie devs don't care because they know they can half-ass it and get $ from nostalgia even if there's little fidelity/cohesion in the graphics.
I don't give a frick what you think, and neither should you.
We're getting a new Golden Sun and that's all that matters.
>We're getting a new Golden Sun and that's all that matters.
huh? since when?
can I get a quick run down?
It going for a pixel aesthetic, not a retro aesthetic. Also, name?
The point of pixel art isn't to make games that look like they were made in the early 90s.The point is to see how good we can make pixel art look with modern technology and advancements in game making. More details with shading and lighting is part of that.
But it looks worse
>wooow CRT subpixel hinting
>no no you can't do subpixel hinting with a shader
i don't have any basedjacks to attach, pick your own
I'm actually really looking forward to this one
>pixelshit
Just hire a real artist.
This actually does look good though. What game?
Sea of Stars
This looks very good. I don't get why you chose this one to shitpost about?
I think it looks alright
Unfortunately you won't be able to have an incestuous relationship with your sister in this game which is extremely disappointing.
>Limitations good
>Style bad
I like it
I fully agree with you 100% but you should have used a better example. I think it's such a half assed art style, they want to do pixel art but can't commit to it since it takes forever so they just fudge animations and effects, it looks very disgusting, lazy, and sloppy, and then post processing effects on top to obfuscate the mess. If your game is going to have a pixel art style you have to commit 100%, even the text and menus, I hate when a pixel art game has lazy 3d text.
>commit 100%
Would it be profitable and appealing enough? Probably not. It's like water to zoomers, they have to add some flavorings in or else they'll feel it's bland.
game?
Dunno but it's this guy's
https://twitter.com/salgueiroAzul
There are definitely minor things I would tweak but this whole thread is making a mountain out of a molehill.
>no one think it looks good
But it does?
>game markets itself as retro
>requires 8 GB RAM and 2 GB VRAM
Why can't an indie dev ever hire artists like these for their game
Because these kind of artists are only good for one picture and will charge criminal amounts of money for a whole pack of game assets.
>criminal
Go back to your AI thread, poorgay
10 dollars and hour is the average American income.
Good artists don't work for 10 dollars an hour.
Exactly, they deserve more compared to the teenager flipping BigMacs.
And that's why indie devs don't hire them. Does that finally answer your question?
Kinda, that's why you hire yourself. Make your own game, art, music, code, everything.
Just waiting for AI to catch up so I can skip learning to code.
And watch as it only gets 3 on metascore.
>implying I'll ever release it and won't just play it myself forever
you say that like they wouldn't make a ludicrous amount of money making a game with art like that. the problem is developers like gamefreak can also make ludicrous amounts of money by half-assing it and releasing turbo-shit, so committing resources to try to actually make a good game is just an unnecessary expenditure.
The problem is art doesn't sell games. Marketing sells games.
>we will never get a pokemon game that looks like this
Because they take a million years to get anything done and 1 picture of this scope is only a fraction of what is required for a video game
usually they also can't play well with other artists and work with a consistent agreed upon style, usually they can/will only do "their" style so either they are the sole artist who is very slow, or they are unusable in a project of even small scope
this is why there are quite often a lot of games that have 1 area that looks quite different and its presented in a completely different way, like a dream world or some magic place, and usually its done by 1 guy who couldn't work with others so they made use of him doing this, they are like autistic savants, they can only do 1 thing in 1 way and can't cooperate, but they do it really well
>indie game
>made by a team of 40 people and published by a publisher that has put out 100 other "indie" games
Fricking tired of this shit
game in the OP is self-published. Dunno how large the team is though.
Why would the publisher matter? They're not making the game just getting paid to publish it.
Why do Western made indie JRPGs tend to have character designs like this?
Zoomies gonna zoom
where do you even start learning how to do this shit?
https://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5692
https://zlibrary.to/pdfs/pixel-logic-a-guide-to-pixel-art-pdf
thanks
Also don't forget you still need learn normal art and art fundamentals. So you'll need to look into that as well. But don't let that scare you
Don't know what game this is, but this looks cute, never played a pixel art game since they all look gimmicky and moronic but I would give this a try.
The frick you saying moron, that looks great
>It's not pixel art if it doesn't adhere to my autistic rules!
Are you upset it completely mogs everything you've ever done?
>pic
What game?
Sea of Stars
it looks cool
ASCII with minimal pixel art is true connoisseur style.
