"Emulation" (aka piracy) is extremely disrespectful to the artists and developers who worked on the game and are a violation of the license you agreed to when you bought a license to play the game.
It's 3rd worlder degeneracy, yes. Get a job and just play the games like its creators intended you to.
i will buy the games, 15 years after they come out, used, on ebay to place them in my collection and never open them if, and ONLY if i liked emulating them
nintendo can suck my average white wiener if they are not ok with it
>artists and developers
Generally don't receive royalties, they instead get paid a salary while working on the game. They might receive a one-off bonus if the game does well, sometimes this bonus is tied to a certain metacritic score instead of actual sales. Fallout: New Vegas is a good example of this.
>Generally don't receive royalties
In your head?
99% of emulated games are companies like Nintendo not EA
Today,
I will remind them.
holy shit
Which members of Neversoft will get my money if I buy THPS2 on the PS1 in 2022?
Shut up Alice.
>"Emulation" (aka piracy) is extremely disrespectful to the artists and developers
which get paid a salary, the ones who would lose any money would be the investors and board of directors... which are millionaires, FRICK EM
>BUY MY 20-30 YEAR OLD GAMES WITH YOUTUBE INFLATED PRICES
How about no
>buys game
>emulates a copy
U mad?
Why are tendies so mindbroken about emulators? It gets me giggling every time
Falseflagging.
yep, their screeching is very fun to watch. some of these morons actually believe emulation is illegal
just a reminder retroarchgay spends his entire life shilling yuzu and hating on pcsx2/rpsc3
if you're reading this please have a nice day
don't know who that is but I like all functional emulators. That guy sounds like a homosexual
like I said he is a snoy more obsessed with discrediting emulators than any tendie that I've ever seen.
wow seems like all consolegays are homosexuals. who knew
Nah it's mostly snoys.
'ate consolegays
'ate their silly bickering
luv me emulators
simple as
Okay, tendie.
>people b***hing and complaining about PCSX2
Works on my machine.
Nintendo themselves have very strict views on emulation and diehard fans share a similar stance.
Does it say in the license agreement that you can't emulate or modify the game?
If not, frick off.
But if you get a job, you're paying taxes, which means by definition you're funding degeneracy.
post nose
What’s extremely disrespectful to the artists who worked on the game is playing their work at a far lower quality than what they created. The assets that ship with these games are greatly constrained by Nintendo’s trash hardware and only with emulation at higher resolutions can you experience the artists’ intended vision.
All those classic Nintendo games you play on modern Nintendo devices are just emulations themselves. I'm not paying for that.
based happy hunchback
tendies will seethe FBI AAAAAAAA
No, MK8DX has sold a billion copies and it's not like they're selling their older games
>openly promotes emulation and piracy on their main channel
Based 3000 IQ canadians, cant wait to see the lawsuit video in a couple of months.
Emulation and dumping your own ROMs isn't illegal, dipshit, downloading games for free is.
They are OPENLY promoting piracy anon.
good
frick buygays
>yes goy pirate good games and the only games that make money are DRM heavy live service games
implying
your shit will always fail
people who make actually good games will get money even if the games are free
>people who make actually good games will get money even if the games are free
This not reality. There are plenty of great games that underperformed
Say literally one
it is merely an implication that the viewer may or may not act upon based on how they interpret the video
>it is merely an implication
lol
U mad?
by making a video on how to dump your own roms? are you moronic?
>They are OPENLY promoting piracy anon.
by making a video showing how to do it LEGALLY
what a moron
man I hate these low iq teenagers invading the board
Getting on Nintendo's bad side is probably not a great idea.
Nintendo can do nothing about it, It's legal.
They can still be vindictive about it. Being an butthole is not illegal. Sending cease and desist is annoying enough.
What cease and desist? Name one Nintendo emulator that’s been taken down.
Anon, they would send a cease and desist to Linus. Its would be a headache for him. Companies have a way of fricking you over if you piss them off.
What the frick does Linus have to do with me?
he died of sugma
Who is Steve Jobs
sugma male
What the frick are you on about, im talking about the video.
Nintendo doesnt care. They will still try to ruin your life.
>They will still try to ruin your life.
Kek, they are cowards and cucks who go after third worlders and no name game modders since it means the game journos that shill their games might give them some bad press
Emulation is not piracy moron. You can legally emulate a dumped game that you own.
they did not promote piracy
While you're technically 100% correct, you and I both know that emulation is almost always synonymous with piracy. I know people who do emulate games that they own legit copies for and just want to play the game with better performance, but those people are the extreme minority in the emu scene.
tl;dr it's intellectually dishonest to claim that pro emu people aren't promoting piracy even if they don't say it.
>While you're technically 100% correct
So I'm correct? Take your meds, they did not promote piracy. They showed you how to dump games legally. They never implied you would do anything else. The emulator itself does not promote piracy either.
This logic is along the lines of banning cars because despite good reason to have cars on roads and despite safe driving being possible, many if not most drivers will break traffic laws and speed limits as and when they please.
Just because some people use a legitimate thing irresponsibly isn't a reason to bar honest users from accessing it.
No that's NOT along the lines of logic.
Driving cars is NOT synonymous with breaking traffic laws.
Using emulators is not synonymous with pirating software.
You don't know what synonymous means.
Your brain is synonymous with moronic.
Why not have a nice day?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
holy shit, it's fricking over for Nintendo
>Is emulation unethical
Is the software abandoned?
No.
Is the software still being sold by the developers?
Yes.
You just want to pirate Metroid so just admit you want free games.
>starts the video wheezing and out of breath
>yeah, the Steam Deck is much bulkier and has a worse battery life, but it's also a handheld pc and since i don't actually play video games it's the only real option
No, it's not unethical.
So developers do not deserve to be paid?
You are not pirating EA games. Stop shitposting.
Developers being paid is not related to emulation in any way.
>Developers being paid is not related to emulation in any way.
What?
>What?
Developers being paid is not related to emulation in any way.
Are you moronic?
No.
No, you are moronic.
Good argument, definitely telling of your intelligence.
>good argument
Not really, just confirming that you're moronic
Oh yes, very really
Go ahead I suppose, though practically speaking I'm not sure any money you spend on that will end up with the devs you want to support.
I don't see how the hardware platform you're running the game on can hurt anyone. Worst case scenario it hurts your own experience if you cannot access official online infrastructure and such, provided you're interested in that in the first place and provided the game you're emulating still has such infrastructure available.
>Go ahead I suppose, though practically speaking I'm not sure any money you spend on that will end up with the devs you want to support.
I mean it's hard to support a lot of NES developers what with most of them being dead or retired.
True, though if the games aren't even available for purchase anymore I don't think you need to try too hard to jump through hoops to give 'em money.
Is that all you're limited to saying? Can you literally not do any better?
>Is that all you're limited to saying?
When your only argument is that you personally hold the opinion that emulation doesn't do any level of harm to the industry no matter how small, there's not much left to say than "you're an idiot" or "I disagree". Nothing I can say will ever change your mind so stop expecting some epic retort.
Why are you on Ganker when you clearly do not belong here? Actually nevermind that, why haven't you killed yourself for being such a destroyed npc homosexual?
>ad hom reply
ad hominem implies you are making an argument. I am not doing that. I am simply stating that people who are opposed to piracy do not belong on Ganker and should cease posting on here.
My argument is that emulation is not related to payment, which I very clearly stated in a very short sentence, with very few, uncomplicated words. The fact that you were incapable of understanding even such simple communication does indeed suggest that you're dumb as a bag of hammers.
Only one seething reply per IP please
Is that all you're limited to saying? Can you literally not do any better?
Do you want him to post the study that proves piracy doesn't equate to lost income so you can ignore it or what?
>study
Then explain the PSP having low software sales for a platform that sold 76+ million. ~330M PSP games were sold, yet the NES and SNES each have higher software sales than the PSP.
Disingenuous homosexual, you and I both know that the correlation you can draw from the sales of a portable video game console released in 2004 is not the same as two different home consoles released in the 80s and early 90s is almost zero as they are in two different markets. What about the DS or the 3DS? Both of which have huge piracy scenes.
>What about the DS or the 3DS? Both of which have huge piracy scenes.
Thanks for making it easy, homosexual.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/hard_soft/
3DS has lower software sales than the NES despite having higher hardware sales. Hell, the 3DS' software sales are within the same ballpark as the SNES'.
>Home game console versus Portable game console
Impressive, very nice. Now compare the sales for the NES and the SNES with the PS1 and the PS2 - both of which are also well known for their piracy scene.
>Now compare the sales for the NES and the SNES with the PS1 and the PS2
Why? Unlike the 3DS and PSP, piracy for the PS1 and PS2 during their prime required having to buy 3rd party software. PSP and 3DS can be softmodded without any 3rd party equipment.
>PSP and 3DS can be softmodded without any 3rd party equipment.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
At the prime of the PSP you needed the pandora's battery - a hardmodded battery pack to trigger the recovery mode for the PSP and flash CFW on it. While it was possible to keep the version at 1.50 to play homebrew it often was impossible to play pirated games.
For the 3DS, early on it needed either a third party cartridge or a buggy video game.
This is no different from the PS1 or the PS2, both requiring hardmods to the disk drive.
>You have no idea what you are talking about.
>At the prime of the PSP you needed the pandora's battery - a hardmodded battery pack to trigger the recovery mode for the PSP and flash CFW on it.
Nobody actually messed with Pandora's Battery. And not long after firmware 2.0 launched, hackers managed to run a Hello World script using the photo viewer. 2.0 was quickly solved, and there were downgraders that let people go to 1.5 via softmodding. Hell, Pandora's Battery isn't even 3rd party equipment. Anyone could make a Pandora's Battery by opening a PSP's battery and nudging some pins. There were even Youtube videos about this back in the day.
>For the 3DS, early on it needed either a third party cartridge or a buggy video game.
Exactly, a video game that is easily attainable by walking into Gamestop. Shortly after the release of the Ninjhax, there was a means of getting homebrew on 3DS without a cart and through the use of the 3DS music player.
>This is no different from the PS1 or the PS2, both requiring hardmods to the disk drive.
The difference is a cheap video game, fiddling with a battery, or waiting an extra month versus only having the option of buying overpriced 3rd party shit.
Not that anon, but did you ever consider that some people actively try to compensate companies for their work, but just don't care for the idiotic rules and restrictions? For example, if you wanted to play Chrono Trigger recently, the only legal option was to buy it on steam, aka a horrific and poorly done port. You still bought it anyway because it was on sale, and you wanted the legal right to say that you purchased it. With that said and done, does that not entitle you to enjoy the far superior SNES version with romhacks and mods?
>WELL AKSHUALLY NO BECAUSE THE LAW SAYS
Don't give a rat's ass about the law. Morally, you gave them money, you should be able to enjoy their product in any way you want. If they don't like it, they can shut their greedy corporate gabber. Honestly, they shouldn't get money period for that shoddy port job, but what other option do you have? you could just pirate it without caring about it, but if you liked the game then you'd want to give them money.
See how it's a very tricky little web of trying to be a reasonable customer, only for the corporates to spit in your face regardless?
>I don't see how the hardware platform you're running the game on can hurt anyone
At this point it's because you are literally incapable of seeing because of your low IQ.
Developers being paid is not related to emulation in any way
What if I pay for Nintendo Online?
I'm supporting the developers in exchange for access to the official NES and SNES emulators.
That's how I view it. I wanted to play Wild Arms 3 and Rogue Galaxy, so regrettably I gave sony some money for their playstation premium service. I don't like subscription services, but they ARE keeping the games available, so it's no hassle to pay them for access to these titles, but the whole rental schema is dumb.
>for access to the official NES and SNES emulators.
so, the worst ones? why would you pay for a product that is inferior to its free counterparts?
Depends. Emulation helps sales of already popular IPs. But it can hurt indies.
Is ripping off the public unethical?
There is nothing more embarrassing than the modern pirate. Just steal your shit quietly and go, no need to make it your entire personality
i can't watch obese people
It's a pleasure to pay you for your hard work whenever possible, but miss me with the whole "you have to play it as they intended" garbage. I WILL romhack Super Metroid, I WILL romhack Mario 64, I will play Ocarina of Time multiplayer with mods, randomizers, and character model changes so I'm playing as a short skirt Malon wielding the dildo bat from Saint's row.
If you don't like it, then sit and spin and dial 8.
Mario Kart without online is like eating pizza without cheese
>"it's unethical"
>"it's illegal"
>"it's disrespectful"
>Yeah, and?
>gigachad
>killing good games and proving only the most cancerous live service DRM heavy games make money
lol
Just post a cheap pirate cosplay
What games am I killing by emulating old consoles on my PC?
>old consoles
>the fricking Switch
Even if I emulate Switch, what good games and series have I killed by doing so?
Switch is old as frick. Barely runs shit at 480p 15fps.
You're thinking of the Vita. Switch is capable of 1080p 60fps
"Poor" pirates were never gonna purchase the game. Even if you couldn't pirate shit, they would just watch a playthrough on youtube and even if they couldn't do that they would just not care. That's the reality of poor people pirating shit - if they could afford it they would buy it.
>only the most cancerous live service
The market did that to themselves, Black person. Even Diablo Immortal is a run-away success despite every diablo fan reeeing and screetching about it.
>THINK OF THE POOR MULTIBILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION
why are obese people so disgusting
MODS?????
FBI?????
>gives step by step instructions on how to emulate switch games on the deck
>including how to hack your switch to get the games on your deck legally
based as absolute frick.
>Blurs everything that could actually get them in trouble while trying to act like a badass
Lol
having just watched it, it makes sense because nintendo abuses dmca requests to remove videos that show gameplay. combined with the huge "frick you" to nintendo at the end, it's pretty based if it allows the video to stay up.
It's not abusing if it works. In any event, I don't care if you pirate, but if they really wanted to say "frick you" then they should go all in and do it for every console. Otherwise this is a useless gesture
>noooo you can't emulate the Mona Lisa by downloading a pirated photo of it!
>The Louvre staff won't get paid!!!
Being this fricking fat while people starve out there is unethical.
I can't even imagine being such a destroyed person that you think "harming" a corporation is "unethical".
>hehe, I was only pretending to be a moronic corporate shill, epically trolled! lol!
pirating is always ok
t. have a small 3tb collection of fav movies/shows/porn
>Downloading porn
my bad should've said doujin collection instead
but i do have 30gb of eva lovia and remy lacroix vids though
when you are into the niche shit the good ones sometimes disappear. Had it happen a few times.
>oh boy i can't wait to see all that niche amateur stuff i bookmarked on pornhub
frick you for reminding me
Zoomers be like
>lol, I’ll just download it again if I need it.
How come switch emulators have come a long way in such a short time? Compared to the Ps4 or even the 360?
Also are people running Switch emulators on toasters? Or do you need a super pc. Idk the deck specs off the top of my head
The switch was cracked super early in its life time which eliminated alot of the guess work
because it uses well documented hardware (nvidia tegra has been in tablets for ages), well documented architecture (arm64 like phones and tablets), and the hardware is weak (on par with wii u which already got slapped by the weakest xbone)
the switch a glorified android tablet Black person.
Best reply. Thanks
Emulation AND piracy are ethical and based.
>dumping 13 million dollars into a new studio while also b8ing nintendo into a lawsuit over switch emulation
big brain moves linus
How much can he lift?
I bet this guy fricks Linus's wife and makes him watch.
>paypig tendies having a meltdown
lmao
>deckgays losing and worshipping shrek
The absolute state of Steam.
hmmm
NOTHING TO SEE HERE GOYIM! NOW IMPORT MORE REFUGEES!
feels so good emulating bros, just got done with the R&C series maybe I'll play mario galaxy next
can you play mario galaxy with an Xbox 360 controller?
yeah you can. if it needs wiimote features you can emulate it with your mouse
I tried it years ago, and iirc you can map certain motions to buttons. Works pretty well.
why dont normalgays just learn to emulate? It's not like it's hard you just type shit on google, download it, and then put it in a folder lol
I use a real wiimote hooked up to dolphinbar btw
S O U L
If you haven't noticed, zoomers are becoming increasingly more tech illiterate over time due to the slow process of turning the internet from the wild west into a sterilized, dumbed down, and curated place. I really thought future generations would be better, but israelites prevented that. Someone bring up the article showing how some college zoomers didn't understand file structure in windows lmao
Imagine how bad it's going to get in 20 years when everyone is streaming their games via stuff like Game Pass on their TVs instead.
fricking hate zoomers
I work at a college.
It's surprising the amount of people who don't even do any sort of search at all. Everyone asks me how to do things instead of looking up how to do it themselves.
I work at a company help desk and 90% of the time I google the problem and read it out loud for them
It makes me want to kill myself
we're seeing the first signs of tech priests.
>in 500 years the only people who will know how technology actually works will be a small subset of corpos scientists and engineers developing it and independent technology gurus who reverse engineer gadgets to learn about technology like some lost and forbidden art
>the ignorant unwashed masses will think it's fricking magic
Congrats on playing stuff everyone else already finished
Wasn't that "study" done with an extremely small group of people?
>Congrats on playing stuff everyone else already finished
big amounts of copium
Coping for what, I have a hacked PSP, 2DSXL and PS3. I just don't consider piracy a personality
>Congrats on playing stuff everyone else already finished
nah I play plenty of niche stuff too, that's the fun part of emulation
>that's the fun part of emulation
well, that and the fact I can do shit like upscale + widescreen hacks
>Congrats on playing stuff everyone else already finished
Gotta love the zoomer mentality of "OH MY GOD I HAVE TO CONSOOM NEW PRODUCT I NEED TO FOLLOW THE HECKIN CONVERSATION!!!!"
THE ZEITGEIST
Emulation thread? Anyone here use the retroid line of handhelds? I had a question regarding the retroid launcher and selecting specific launchers for specific games
>shows people emulating games from another company
>yet b***hes that skipping ads is piracy
wat
Emulation is a great thing, there's tons of games that you'd have no feasible way to play without it. It's more of a gray area when you're talking about modern game systems that are still being sold since you can clearly still easily legally obtain the system and it's games, but I've always been a dirty pirate anyway so it's not like you'll see me pearl clutching about it. Regardless, switch emulation isn't perfect and clearly isn't impacting switch sales if you've ever wandered into a sales thread, switch emulation is a very niche thing that isn't hurting anyone's bottom line.
If it's emulation for Indie games, yes.
It's always right to emulate Nintendo games
>On 50cc because I'm a games journalist
I laughed
reported to nintendo 😉
There's nothing unethical about emulation. Cope.
>make a video about hackedswitch and switch games on steamdeck
>make millions of nintentoddlers seethe
>get sponsored by kiwico since they know mantoddlers are watching
Exquisite
I read most of the comments. Haven't seen these seething nintodlers. However, I have seen people state that it is making them seethe.
It's just a typical snoy psyop. I'm a pretty big nintendo fan and I emulate and pirate. I mean, what kind of person would make Nintendo emulators in the first place if they weren't a huge fan?
why is bobby bacala shilling steam decks
>Linus Tech Tips
>it's some fat guy
wut?
Nah, Nintendo clearly has no intention of selling titles for the PC market so emulating their consoles on PC has no impact on their sales and does not effect the intended use of their IP, as such, both emulation and piracy enabled through emulation are classifiable as fair use, completely ethical and should be encouraged.
>can't download videos from thisvid
where else can I see a guy get a hand shoved so far up his ass you see it poking out of his stomach???
nah they couldn't have
jannies need to be executed
Paying for modern video games, microtransactions and subscriptions is unethical
