Nobody cares as long as everyone, including both arcade goers and emulator users, plays the same standard of the game. If an emulator lets you get a higher score than arcade version by the virtue of having less input lag then your score is not legit.

Removing slowdown doesn't let you get a higher score you fricking smoothbrained moron. The lower input lag is due to not having the framerate drop like 5fps (and game speed along with it) whenever there is a lot of action on screen. Excessive slowdown just feels like utter shit.
If you want an experience that is as close to 1:1 as arcade you would play with slowdown, but if you actually care about the game itself, it is vastly superior (both in terms of enjoyment and responsiveness) without slowdown.

I don't even play with run-ahead, but it really doesn't make enough difference to even matter. 95% of the people using run-ahead are third worlders playing on 60Hz fixed-refresh-rate LCD monitors who are still getting more input lag than PCB on CRT. Even in lag-optimized cases, run-ahead reduces raw input lag at the cost of input lag consistency, so is really only useful for cases of games with like 5-6+ frames of input lag where the raw input lag reduction is enough to make up for the worse consistency (and even then it is marginal and arguable)

It doesn't matter if these autofire circuits existed or not back in the 1980s. Because autofire was not installed equally in all Japanese cabinets. Not every cabinet had it. Interesting. But they need more enemies attacking the player for it to be a metal slug. That footage looks way too casual and easy. There's hardly any soldiers shooting at the player. Metal slug always had a bunch of enemies coming from several angles. Not an unfair amount but enough to be a challenge if you didn't pay attention.
