>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
Sorry no, you're stuck with them forever
i've actually had no issues on SteamOS 3. it's basically just Arch+KDE with all the drivers installed, optimised for gaming. the only issue is obviously DRM and anti-cheat drivers but you shouldn't be playing games with that anyway
install gentoo and find out
Oh no, I'm not smart enough for that.
Ask your boyfriend to do it for you
Use Pop OS. Built for morons like me.
Windows installed Edge again without asking...
Had it disabled via win10privacy.
Getting real tired of that shit.
No I’m too moronic to use command line amd all that other shit to get games and software working
everything has a tuturial is all explained to you, you just need to know how to copypaste, besides, steam already comes with the shit necessary to makes games work by default you only need something else if you want to play a game outside of it
chances are you won't even have to do anything, but if you do, someone has probably made a lutris installer for it
>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
yea
>How is Linux gaming now?
breddy gud
>Last time I installed Ubuntu it crashed once every few days.
how?
use guis instead then
you know i actually liked linux, but you know what is pissing me off? fricking fire fox, it has been shilled eveywhere but if i use it for more than 30 minutes it crashes, its really annoying and this did not happen with chrome
firefox works on my machine. skill issue
>linux crashes
like pottery.
works on my windows machine.
linux itself dont, its just the browser. its like saying that source games shitting themselfs and crashing for no reason is windows' fault
>source games shitting themself and crashing is windows fault
Source games crash on Windows?
>Reading comprehension
why not use a minimal distro and install only chrome?
I hate FF too.
>updates without asking and forces me to restart it
>breaks the shortcut I made for it in KDE after every update
>is ugly and slow
did you not install it using your distro's package manager?
without asking and forces me to restart it
the shortcut I made for it in KDE after every update
Literally how? lol
Mine updates the same way as all my other programs -- when I open my update manager, click update, and enter my password -- and my shortcut never breaks because it's just using Exec=firefox or maybe Exec=/usr/bin/firefox.
If you have unattended upgrades enabled then that's a "you" problem, but I can't figure out how it's breaking your desktop entry. Like no offense but what did you do?? lmao
inb4 "I don't know I just clicked things"
I hate Firefox as well, it has INSANE memory leak. But I just can't find a better option.
Chrome is beyond shit, Opera sucks now, Vivaldi as well, Brave as well. Tried so many but they are all awful.
I've literally never seen Firefox crash on Xorg.
On Wayland it crashes regularly but that's just par for the course for Wayland.
Works for me.
Not recommending it though. I know you guys are dumb.
So uninstall Firefox and use Chrome.
Unlike Windows, Linux doesn't try to force you to use a specific browser.
Don't touch firefox, chromeshitter. Go use Brave browser like the pajeet buttmunch shitter that you are
All modern web browsers suck. Firefox just sucks the least.
mozilla is one of the worst companies associated with the web period. firefox is steadily getting worse. the issue is that pretty much every other browser is just a skin of chromium so mozilla is kind of a necessary evil.
>necessary evil
there's literally nothing stopping google from doing what it wants already
and firefox only still exists because of google ultimately firefox is just killing itself
so unless there's another option in a few years
I hope you're happy using vivaldi
>the internet is killing itself and people don't care because they're so used to getting fricked from using a phone
There's no alternative
>ALWAYS asks me to be the default browser even after i said yes
linux is only good if you have a giga pc who will be able to tank proton's and wine's perfomance drop, said pograms are used to make games without support work. tought if a game has a actual linux support it usually runs better than on windows
so never
I use Arch btw and it works on my machine. I had no problem with Linux whatsoever, while you can read about Windows update problems weekly (Defender just removed people's desktop shortcuts just because).
>t. someone who never used Linux
Native versions of games suck but Windows ones run better on Linux than Windows.
>Native versions of games suck
95% of them just work for me.
I see the occasional broken port because Windowstard game devs outsource Linux ports to contractors and then don't know how to maintain them, but that doesn't mean native games are inherently bad.
If you think I'm wrong then explain which defects I missed in the Linux versions of Shovel Knight, Brigador, and Ziggurat.
giga pc is not necessary. I have noticed a performance drop in only one game (Outward)
Proton literally runs games better than windows now, cope harder.
Your video literally shows windows running 2/4 games better
That's also a worst-case scenario for it since they're running on old Nvidia hardware that isn't fully Vulkan-capable (3000 series and above).
2000 series is fully Vulkan capable.
That's what everyone thought when it came out, but it still wasn't.
That's why NVK doesn't support it.
I've been gaming on Linux for years, it just works.
The only games where you're gonna have problems are directx only games and even then most of them work.
I'm glad they removed those problematic words like "master" from an obscure component of Linux systems. What if a black man saw that in the source code and got flashbacks of slavery?
https://github.com/linux-audit/audit-userspace/commit/76076e33d82a5b310a7a05d6261821cb071238df
I hate americans so god damn much
me too
and also israelites, Black folk, gays, trannies, and most importantly jannies
>remove problematic words
>removes Durham, North Carolina
?
Wouldn't this make the code a lot harder to read? Replacing 'master record' with something ambiguous changes that comment's meaning entirely.
yep, it's pure politcal garbage
You mean have a standardized syntax was meant for searchability?
Absurd.
soon, we are already at a game by game basis
>46% perf difference
Wow, thanks for telling me linux is piece of shit
>46% perf difference
>higher is better for Linux
Just how much better than Windows do you expect it to be?
>can't read
Typical wintoddler
>cherrypicked old / irrelevant games
lmao
>game doesn't run on linux? it's shit
nice cope
Entry-level distributions like ubuntu or manjaro are piss-easy to use even for someone who's probably never laid hands on a computer.
Doing basic shit like web surfing/bureautics/pdfs etc works well, steam has great support and there are a bunch of platforms like lutris to make compatibility easier.
You won't need to interact with the terminal 99% of the time but it's a pretty good tool so you'll inevitably learn about it just from copy-pasting commands you'll read on online tutorials.
Check protondb.com to see whether your favorite games work... if all you play is some game that's not supported it's probably not worth it.
As a rule of thumb, everything *should* work except for AAA and games with invasive anti-cheat software (again, check protondb).
Ah and forget getting access to the control panel of your nvidia graphics card, too.

wtf why doesn't my desktop work????
>install program
>deletes the desktop
yeah this is totally okay you dumb Black person.
just don't use pop!_os
This is the problem with a bloated distros, you don't know what anything does.
When you start as minimal as possible, and build from there, you know what everything does.
If something goes wrong, you probably know the name of the component causing it, and how to fix it.
No sorry your PC doesn't support Linux.
>No sorry your PC doesn't support Linux.
Oh okay.
this is a linux equivalent of removing system32. no, it's worse, you literally get a warning in plain english, and then you have to confirm it with an elaborate confirmation phrase just to make sure you really know what's going on. And even once you do it, reverting it back to normal is as simple as installing those packages again.
>install steam
>it deletes system32
there's no way to spin this in a way that doesn't make linux look like shit
Except it didn't allow him to do that, after failing the install from GUI he opened terminal, used root privileges, and then he specifically had to try very very hard to ruin it. Yeah, repository issues like those are shit and he should be able to just install it, but you only get to see it on unstable distro channels, so he most likely switched to that.
>this is a linux equivalent of removing system32
No, it's not, even after this you can just type
sudo apt install pop-desktop
and will have working system. If you'll delete system32 you'll have borked system which even Microsoft recovery tool couldn't fix.
That's the advantage of any Linux distro, you can break the system in the state of unrecoverable.
>That's the advantage of any Linux distro, you can break the system in the state of unrecoverable.
It's called factory reset on Windows
>It's called factory reset on Windows

Lol
I save everything on D: drive. Also it lets you to keep ProgramData and Users folder.

>Also it lets you to keep ProgramData and Users folder
Also it shit itself when it encounters some serious shit, like corrupted system files.
>Also it shit itself when it encounters some serious shit, like corrupted system files.
homie, Windows has separate drive for recovery stuff. I thought you're a computer nerd? This is so basic.
>Windows has separate drive for reco-ACK
>refresh
>factory reset
uhm, are you being moronic again?
>implying I care about how moronic company names her proprietary software
Factory reset != Refresh
Factory reset reinstall your Windoze
Refresh is like doing sfc scannow
Uhm, actually, that's called a "partition."
And worst case you can just chroot on a live cd and fix your shit.
No, he just deleted his X packages, he can still log in to another tty and work from there.
windows isn't immune from that either, remember the eve online patch which would delete the windows boot.ini?
>type "im moronic" to delete your entire desktop
>types it
kek, also redditors shilling for this broken distro has been a disaster. You can install this quirky desktop on any other working distro, just please anything other than pop-os
Since you are very unformed I'll drop you a bone. But only because I'm good person.
What do I need to game on Linux as a moron that never experienced Linux?

No.
It's basically the smallest possible form you can slap a full sized GPU in.
just get amd, linux is crap on nvidia
>put housefire in a cramped as frick case with no real CPU cooling or cooling in general aside from maybe houseflood
why do morons do that? buy a craptop at this point
Because it's nice when the pc does not take much space, and in general atx cases are larger than they really need to be.
> YOU MUST BUY A LAPTOP BECAUSE IS SAY SO
No
>thunderbolt
>linux
>lol
What's wrong you moronic Black person?
>is it time to abandon windows
no, linux vidya is still not perfect
>how is linux gaming
Insanely good compared to the state of it 5 years ago or so. Install steam, install proton in steam, it just all runs, no tweaking, no configuration. Steam with proton and predefined configurations runs pretty much every game out of the box, and if you want to frick around, you can add a simple launch parameter and RTX vidya even runs with RTX in there. VR works too, I played and finished some VR games on Linux. The biggest tweak i had to do so far was installing one extra library with protontricks to make Recettear run on Deck, otherwise every single game ran with one click. Performance is still not equal to windows, though it's more than satisfactory, if I'd have to put a number on it, i'd say most demanding and convoluted games run at 80-90% of Windows framerates in there.
>Last time I installed Ubuntu it crashed once every few days
read logs, see what's happening, though it's weird that out of the box ubongo wasn't working well for you
I could easily switch to Linux entirely if I'd get any good reason to do that, at this point it runs just about anything, but I'm blessed with a beefy GPU. If my PC would be just barely enough for windows, it would be less than enough for linux. But since I have no good reason, I'm leaving windows where it is on dual boot, it's always nicer to get more frames when you want to vidya, and switching back to linux when you're done takes zero effort.
Still, good to see freetard stuff working well.
Why do GNU/Linux chads make Wincels seethe so hard?
>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
No I haven't learned to make a patch for Revenge of The Fallen PC so you can get past that fricking profile creation screen.
>He's still on Windows
>mfw people are still on windows in 2020+3
Linux has gone a long way this past few years, most games just werk, specially on Steam
But you'll still ocasionally stumble upon some shit that refuses to work for no fricking reason
gayming is at odds with Linux and free software culture
linux is big on user freedom, open code, privacy concerns and decentralization
gaymes are rented software that have no user freedom and will stop working when the publisher takes servers offline after they are no longer feasible to maintain, most games are on closed source windows, all game programmers love programming on windows. most games try to be online and communicating with steam servers or publisher's servers as much as possible so there is no privacy and it's all controlled by corps so there is no decentralization.
linux and gaming are polar opposites and I don't see the two being reconciled anytime soon.
Corps are at odds with Linux and FSF culture.
I can still install games that are open source or DRM free and which don't phone home to servers or which let players run their own servers.
Piracy is also always an option.
there are very few games that are open source and have high production values.
also many of those considered "drm free" are still distributed through steam which is basically drm as far as Linux users are concerned since it needs to phone home at least once every month and by default is always online.
Piracy is pretty much dead because all the crackers got hired to develop denuvo
I love games but the culture around them is too consumerist and there isn't enough pushback against game companies and that will never align with free software philosophy. maybe Linux will have some kind of corporate support for games like they are doing with steam on Linux and Linux development itself these days is driven by corporate priorities, but the community if users is still pretty opposed to all that.
What are you even talking about? They don't need to be aligned, proprietary and open source software can co-exist.
OP here.
50% of all posts in this thread are gibberish to me at this point.
I hate computers.
>I hate computers
I fully understand and relate to you OP. Picrel is the reason.
>picrel
>CI/CD pipeline
what's there to hate about it? I love it because it makes all my work automatic and I only need to worry about writing code and pushing it.
It's not really about CI/CD pipeline, more about automating development cycle and maintaining the containers. From Devops experience I'm feeling that computers didn't really changed that much, since for example in 70s and today you input commands line by line into terminal and expect it to work but most of the time it doesn't.
idk I think containers solved a lot of issues we used to have with packaging, scaling and security so I kinda like them.
it's true that under the hood computers are basically the same since forever, but in my experience stuff usually works when you type in commands. the problem with gaming stuff or steam stuff not working is that steam and games are closed source so when shit doesn't work, you don't know what went wrong. for other software on Linux you usually get detailed crash info so you know what broke and many times even the code is available to patch
>inb4 users don't patch software
users who program actually do, I have patched stuff as well
no thanks, i had to use linux for over a year during my it course and i'm so fricking sick of using console commands
If you're still on Windows at this point you are probably too moronic to switch anyway. Just keep using it.
>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
Already did in 2018.
>How is Linux gaming now?
Much better than it was when I switched, still really rough around the edges, some games won't work (especially online and those with anti-cheat). VR is still really bad, unless you're lucky and got a good hardware combination.
Linux gaming started picking speed only in the last few years.
>Last time I installed Ubuntu it crashed once every few days.
When? Worked perfectly for me.
>Linux shill tries and shill it to me
>says I won't ever use Linux because the games I play don't support it
>"oh you name the game!"
>"y-yeah you can't play that game on Linux but it SUCKS anyways!"
thanks for using windows! please stay there!
I have mint on a laptop. A 4gb ram laptop. I play modded oblivion & F. E. A. R.
Never have a problem.
>you can use downsampling with gamescope
what a neat feature, just need to replace my gpu to be able to make use of it as a replacement for lack of AA options
Linux is a meme os for servers and codetrannies. The only way it ever could be turned into a serious thing if some completely new form of PC comes out and some gigantic tech corp provides a Linux based software solution faster than MS does. Linux gaming is an even more dead form because servers and codetrannies don't care about games and the only corp that made a proof of concept solution for running games as a backup plan can't feel remotely assed to use the game tax to perfect it and is too chickenshit and lazy to enforce devs to support it.
>The only way it ever could be turned into a serious thing if some completely new form of PC comes out and some gigantic tech corp provides a Linux based software solution faster than MS does.
You mean smartphones? That's exactly what happened.
win7 still works, still comfy, still gamin
but I would advise getting used to distros while you can
Ubishit patched the division 2 yesterday to make it run on troonix because of the steam deck. If even the morons at ubishit care about troonix now windows is finished.
They don't care about troonix they care about their shit game being playable on new product from big company. If 'eck used wandows you would never seen this patch ever
i dont enjoy troubleshooting
>How is Linux gaming now?
Meh. I've got this old game I want to play but it won't work. I learned about passthrough and stuff but I've been procrastinating on setting it all up.
Gotta go into your OS bootloader settings every time you want to add or remove a gpu to passthrough from vms
What game?
The Void, it's that shader thing still.
I've made up my mind to finish it, put in like 4 hours learning the strats and getting past the tutorial only to get blueballed by that shit. The voice acting clicked with me and it's driving me insane that I can't play it.
And yet I'm too lazy to set up KVM and Looking Glass
There are like 99 games called Void, but let's go with the 2016 one. Have you tried multiple versions of Proton? Even GE?
>maintain
Probably this is the problem, since even if the Windows versions are not maintained, they just work. Atm my only example is Skullgirls where native has shadow bugs and gets updates late, while has none of those issues with Proton.
The Void/Turgor, from 2009 by the Pathologic studio. The way it handles shaders is weird. Once of the very old versions of Proton let me bypass the hard crash for a little bit, but they can't cope either.
There is a wine patch, but making a VM with direct gpu and ram seems simpler than making a custom Proton with that wine patch
Oh after doing some research I was dummy and that one is the one I was talking about. PCgaming wiki says it needs PhysX, maybe try with Proton Experimental (the bleeding edge version).
Nah shit's fricked yo. I did try the most recent GE and Steam's experimental. I also need to back up my saves and just reinstall because using external dlls made the game reliant on them and it won't run without a specific proton now
Old games do run like shit on recent windows too, and last I checked a lot of software are removing support for even Windows 8.1. Shit's fricked
>shit slav junk doesn't work
wooow
You know what fren you should tongue my anus. get in there nice and deep and suck my nuts on your way out
I have a vague problem with Linux. I tried a mashup of 100 steps as described by 10 different google searches. It didn't work and never will work. I'm going back to Windows.
I only use Linux for emulation since I have AMD card. RPCS3 and yuzu runs better there, but that's about it. Last time I tried to play something through Proton was Elden Ring on release, since at that time stutters were everywhere, and it was more stable, at the cost of halving my framerate.
>and it was more stable, at the cost of halving my framerate.
lmao what card?
At the time it was GTX1080. Now I have 6800XT, it will probably run better but I see no reason to use compatability layers when I can just play it natively on Windows.
have heard it still stutters on Windows, which is pretty sad if true
i think 10 series just wasn't as good with Vulkan as the gens after it so maybe that's why, I was using a 3090 at the time for my Elden Ring playthrough
>RPCS3 and yuzu runs better there
How much better?
I'd say works great on my machine but they broke AC88 wireless adapters in 6.1.2 with 3 lines of code. Though, unlike windows I can at least easily fix that myself
>Try nobara out of curiosity
>Hey it actually can run shit off the box
>Try touhou6
>Try rpgmaker games
>They refuse to run in fullscreen and instead go into the corner and cry
It was still pretty impressive but i would give it a few more years for the rough edges to get ironed out
if you're on amd you could try wrapping those badly behaving games in gamescope
>give it a few more years
More like at least a decade, if ever.
what version of rpg maker? a handful of them can be run natively
vx ace i think
Huh, i didn't heard of gamescope when i was looking for solutions, i'll test it whenever i give linux another try
Use gamescope for all problems related to misbehaving windows and fullscreen crap.
>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
If you don't play VR games on Nvidia cards, and don't play certain EAC games, absolutely. Unfortunately, I play VR games on Nvidia cards so I have to keep a windows partition around. SteamVR doesn't have motion smoothing yet on linux and that's kind of important. Wish valve would put more work in there. I give less of a frick about the EAC games, they usually have other problems like battle passes and excessive microtransactions.
>How is Linux gaming now?
Amazing, keeping the above statement I made in mind. Gamescope is a feature I sorely miss when I go back to windows. Everything I usually play I throw at my Steam Deck without even looking at ProtonDB or deck verified status and it just works.
>Last time I installed Ubuntu it crashed once every few days.
I don't use ubuntu I use EndeavourOS or Nobara Project so can't relate.
Windows has been relegated to a fallback OS when shit doesn't work and this does not happen often, which to me speaks volumes about how far linux gaming has come because I remember hating linux a decade ago because it had nogames and now for the most part the only nogames it has are stuff that's incredibly predatory on it's users to begin with.
Then again, I've reached a point in gaming where I can't tolerate the usual AAA bullshit anymore and I play a bunch of indie games, your mileage may vary.
the only thing keeping me from switching is massive file system on ntfs and lack of undervolting and fan curves on novidiya cards
VR works if your PC is strong enough you don't have to worry about re-projection being a broken feature
For nvidia with xorg you need your monitor refresh rates to match your headsets, that's all. or else you'll get frametiming jitters due to how xorg renders everything as one big monitor
AMD has the luxury of being able to use Wayland but Mutter (GNOME) lacks the drm-leasing that the devs keep refusing to merge so you'll have to be on KDE or another DE like i3 and I think Cinnamon should support it properly too. Or just use xorg and do what you would for nvidia
The problem is display managers and nvidia, the latter being the same reason Valve still haven't put out steam decks steamos3 to the public
You're right though Valve have all but abandoned SteamVR on Linux, which if you follow Deckard news is bizarre they should at least support their own headset properly, Alyx even has a native build that woks, it's bugs come from being Vulkan which is also busted on Windows
The main issue with NVIDIA is that they bypass the whole normal linux graphics stack and substitute their own
The only thing shared between them is libglvnd, which was supposed to (allegedly) solve this problem by allowing to select a GL implementation at runtime (similar functionality is baked into the vulkan standard, for reference) but it doesn't because NVIDIA's kernel module is still incompatible with the normal KMS DRM stack so they still can't coexist in a sane way
lmao

Out of that fricking list I only use Steam.
For GoG I download the games installers directly.
Also I didn't need to trouble shoot to get a game running for like 10 years.
We are not the same homosexual.
and out of your list I use Steam, wine if you count steam's Proton, and heroic for a singular gog game (Cybperpunk 2077)
could've installed via the installer directly but heroic makes it easier
would've used GOG Galaxy on Windows for game save syncing

You don't need these
>You don't need these
you use the win32 comapt layer literally every day you use Windows
I used borderless gaming for a number of games that don't have borderless mode by default
compatability settings for certain games IS required
I, too, like to ignore Windows' problems.
>compatability settings for certain games IS required
Literally never saw that actually doing anything.
I honest to god think it's a placebo setting.
have you tried playing old games?
werks on my machine
Other anons say they don't, in this very thread. Probably it just as shitty on my machine, too.
>have you tried playing old games?
The older steam or gog titles I own all work out of the box.
from the reviews I've seen of old games, you got lucky
You're welcome to pretend that Windows is perfect, but WINE honestly has higher compatibility with <= XP games than 11 at this point.
>you use the win32 comapt layer literally every day you use Windows
It just works, unlike linux. Even low IQ games don't even realise that is a thing.
I just came from gaming on Linux for two months. Its still not up to par. About 40% of my catalog was unplayable.
The games that work, all had varying issues, either in performance or weird tweaks that needed to be done so that they'd run. Just weird shit too. Like cyberpunk would run at near max, and aaa games from like a gen or two ago wouldn't get above 30 fps, despite reports on protondb that they "ran perfectly".
Thats my main gripe. No one linux user has a similar experience. 5 people will report it runs perfect ootb, no tweaks, 3 more on the same day will post an enormous troubleshooting log of what they did to try and get the game to launch or run more than 30 fps.
I'm actually quite experienced with Linux too, since I work on it. I can't imagine non technically skilled people trying to learn how to troubleshoot wine/lutris or some shit, and don't even get me started on wine.
>Thats my main gripe. No one linux user has a similar experience
This is actually Torvald's major complaint about modern Linux, and the reason he stated Linux will eventually just die if it continues, because this applies to Linux itself, and not just games.
If things go the way they do now, Steam Deck will be the standard for playing games on Linux.
I'll switch when EAC makes it easy for devs to enable support for Linux.
You'd have already switched. Just stick to Windows.
Not him, but I have about 5-6 games I return to regularly where EAC still borks anyone on linux completely.
I also play a few games that use battleeye which is even more of a disaster.
His criteria was making it easy for devs.
Ah, true.
Still, easy for devs /=/ devs will do it. Doubt any of the major ones still holding out on eac for linux will cave.
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamdeck/proton
What I hate is having to troubleshoot every other game with gold rating on Protondb. I really wish all the required options were already set by devs or Steam jannies. At least for major games like Skyrim or Sims 4 or stuff like that.
maybe Valve could crowdsource launch options like controller configs. bit of a security nightmare though.
Yeah, a lot of games with gold rating run like trash for me, and I usually just give up, and thats like 50% of my steam games list.
God is this true?
I was thinking about getting a deck, so I fiddled with Linux to try some old games with a bad rating, took a few hours but worked.
I hoped these gold rating games would be install => play and it works.
>gold rating games would be install => play and it works.
I'm
Some of them, that is actually the case. They install, and boot fine on proton, little to no issue. Some actually do require genuine troubleshooting effort however.
You need to read the reports on Protondb and see what users did to make the game run. For me, all the games I wanted to play eventually worked, but having gold rating doesn't mean the game will run without configuration.
My favoirite example is Sims 4, where running EA App and updating the game requires specific steps that aren't even described in the reports (hence some people don't manage to run it). But it's still "Gold".
Awesome.
Had the same thing where 50% of the people on the Wine DB said it doesn't work and others said it works but no one gave instructions.
Gold is usually having to set controller binds, having to set a specific proton version, or being forced to use a keyboard in my experience.
Gold for me can be anything from binds, to launcher tweaks, to in game settings tinkering, and so on. I've had games that were gold that I also couldn't get respectable performance on at all and just gave up. But my hardware is more than enough for the game.
Protondb often just lies
My only problem so far was that Origin launcher couldn't run on Deck, so I wouldn't be able to run new Assassin's Creeds. I tried CP77, Ace Combat 7, GTA4, My Summer Car, Elden Ring, Warband, many more, it all worked out of the box. Maybe I got lucky, but so far I had to tweak around only for one singular game, and it was Recettear, everything else worked the moment it was installed.
All Steam library though, non-steam games require you to prepare your own stuff I think. I tried running CP77 from gog, admittedly it worked out of the box but it never reached same performance as Steam version, on deck. I guess they probably prepare stuff to install into wineprefixes per game, so if you don't have it on Steam, you're on your own.
protondb is delusion centre
Skyrim works fine though
I don't get why Towerclimb won't work, it's a cool game and it would be really comfy to play on SteamDeck in bed
Not worth the time until devs become more linux friendly and I don't have to cope 24/7 and use workarounds for every game I want to launch, or worse, just not be able to play at all.
If you're okay with huge compromises, linux is fine otherwise.
They better make the Dwarf Fortress steam release work natively, proton doesn't even come close to being enough with shit like input lag
>Wine
>not an emulator
Okay why is no one making one then?
They are. Box86 and Box64.
I cant find any new thinkpads that arent refurbished. should i just get refurbished then?
>the linux cope in this thread
lol
I'm sure the year of linux will come.........eventually.
Does Discord Push to Talk on Wayland works yet? Installing Fedora immediately if yes.
I stopped using Wayland but I think it did work.
It works if Discord is in xwayland, and you're tabbed into another xwayland window. It doesn't work in Wayland windows, or if Discord itself is running in Wayland.
I use Linux, but I still game on Windows with a single GPU passthrough VM.
Same, lmao. Just running windows in a VM to game because while linux is overall superior, its still trash to game with.
This weekend I'm installing proxmox, gonna build a Fedora VM and a Windows VM. If I only ever run one at a time, I should be able to use PCIe passthrough on both and give my GPU to either, that way I don't have to buy a second GPU or downgrade to a 5700G just for the host. Only thing I'm iffy about is whether hibernating a VM will keep the GPU passed through to it or not. It shouldn't because hibernating is essentially powering off the VM, but I am a bit worried it'll retain control of the device, meaning I'd have to close everything and power down a VM whenever I'd want to switch instead of just hibernating and keeping my progress.
Thanks for reading my blog.
can you still use gpu on linux after the vm is shut down?
Yeah. The way I got it set up, the Linux desktop opens up automatically after I shut down Windows and it takes control back of the GPU. It's super smooth.
Pretty much like this.

Can I run Elden Ring on linux? Though so linuxgays
yes
Elden Ring runs better on linux, multiplayer also works.
Yeah, it was actually famous for running much better on Linux than Windows when it initially launched.
It had zero microstutter issues at launch and ran better than the Windows version.
>Windows VM has memory leaks that cause the game to crash and the game didn't even recognize input until I unplugged every peripheral but one
>Linux and proton just werks
Your next line will be
>I was just pretending to be moronic

Literally runs better on linux than on windows.
>Is it time to abandon windows yet?
Works on my machine.
Why would you abandon the PC for Linux? This is like going over to Mac, it shows a profound sense of disloyalty. PC has always been the ultimate platform for gaming, and now you want to throw it away? For what?
This is a pretty good bait, even though I know you're baiting I'm still slightly upset by it. Insinuating that Windows is synonymous with PC, and especially that you should have any sort of loyalty towards a corporation and its products are both disgusting.
How do you guys run eroges?
Wine seems really hit or miss, even with wegs which shouldn't need winetricks locale or cjkfonts to run
Bottles with gamescope enabled and CJKFonts installed to the prefix.
Okay, but whats the best DE to game on
the one you like
i like i3wm
DE/WM choice makes almost no difference as long as you're using Xorg with compositing disabled.
Let me tell you, the absolute best DE is without a dou- *krashes*
I say xfce or a WM.
Both super light on resources. Just make sure to disable compositor.
Doesn't matter
For me it's KDE, simply because you can configure it to automatically disable and re-enable the compositor with regular expressions matching to applications, instead of just when the application itself requests it.
I like KDE, but I feel like its being developed by tards and even x11 continues to become less and less stable.
If you're coming from Windows, and you've never used anything else, I highly recommend XFCE.
It is both instantly familiar enough to not be off-putting (like Gnome can be), and yet different enough from modern Windows that you won't get uncanny-valley reactions when something is different (like can happen with KDE).
It makes no difference with gaming. Pick your DE/WM by your general usage patterns instead.
SteamOS
If you're coming straight from windows, either KDE Plasma or XFCE.
These threads have been fascinating to watch unfold, the only people still shitposting linux are ESL or literal children
You never see a computer literate adult post about how they need the adobe suite for work and wine isn't good enough anymore. Just literal kids going
>BUT MUH PERFORMANCE LOSS
>WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS NEGLIGIBLE AT 5%
>NO ITS NOT TRUE YOU ARE LYING POSTING PHOTOSHOPPED SCREENSHOTS MARVINS MITTENS
Are twitchgays making PC gaming mainstream responsible for this? These kids aren't tech literate in the slightest but their self identity is clearly tied into being a PC gaming and a tech literate person, despite knowing even less than Linus does about how computers work
Back in the day PC gaming required fiddling and tweaking, it was standard procedure and now look at all these children shrieking they're expected to check protondb for a whole 3 minutes to copy paste launch commands into steam, just stick to windows if you can't handle using your brain
>but you guys keep bullying us for using windows and it hurts my feelings, I:m pc master race!!
Windows gaming is the console gaming of the 2020's
>see long post
>see tranime image
>don't read
It's that easy.
>Are twitchgays making PC gaming mainstream responsible for this?
Speaking of which, are there any Linux gaming streamers?
i'm not big into streamers and all of that, but one hilarious thing I've seen was a vtuber who writes linux drivers
>https://www.youtube.com/@AsahiLina
memowy awwocation optimizations uwu
I know of tuxlovesyou, but he got exposed for fricking his sister a couple months back by the kiwifarms
i assume his views skyrocketed once he was exposed as incestchad?
there's a team fortress 2 gay who promotes linux and open source software
whom?
OldSchoolTF2
>tfw you find out about nearest neighbor scaling in gamescope
Integer, sharp bilinear, or gtfo.
It can do integer too. I'm just happy old games won't look so shitty now.
