yes because their shape allow for laminar flow in the front and a trailing turbulent flow
but no if you include thr nipple as that would create flow separation
but if it's inverted nipple then I guess yes slightly since small dimples create small pockets of turbulent flow which improves aerodynamics to some extent

ESA, the company that runs it, had a major data leak around when covid started and E3 wasn't happening anyways. They handled it terribly and every company took the chance to bail on them.

Companies realized they don't need to pay ESA to have an event showcasing their new games, they can just do it themselves better and cheaper. I'm honestly surprised it took them that long to figure that out.

The internet and streaming. You don't need to have a big event with all your competitors when you can have events dedicated to only your company for cheaper, multiple times per year. Nintendo directs cost way less and accomplish the same exact thing because everyone just watches them on twitch anyways

Companies realized paying $8+ million for an apperance is pointless. Ironically, having your game at TGA is not only cheaper but also creates more exposure than E3 did.
I think TGA gets too much hate, they make some questionable choices, indie winner this year being a fricking joke this year for example, but are solid overall. With old style award shows you'd never see games like Sekiro, Elden Ring or BG3 receiving a GOTY. It'd always be some safe Western slop with huge marketing budget, even TGA was guilty of that in the first few years.

No one on here is part of the problem. I volunteer with middle school kids, and parents in their upper 30s to early 50s right now are the parents of the kids being mentioned. And of those, there are some that are video-game savvy and guide their kids towards real games that aren't just microtransaction-laden shells. But that's difficult and seems counter-intuitive to a lot of parents.

          >Why would I want to buy them new games every year? I can just give them ten bucks to spend on Fortnite, Overwatch, Roblox, or Rocket League and they're over the moon about it. Plus, I don't have to check out whatever new game and make sure it's age-appropriate. Why should I be upset they're spending less of my money?

They don't understand because most of them don't play games themselves. Or if they do, they played things like Farmville and the odd game of Mario Kart with their friends. Some of them may have even played CoD or Halo, or FIFA, and they're willing to shell out for an online subscription because of it.

None of that sounds like posters on here, because it's not. Most people really are "normalgays", and that's what it looks like.

No. They need to keep up the pretense of a game awards show so companies actually feel a need to show up and prepare trailers or whatnot.

I'm genuinely wondering what's being showed on the floor on that event.
Like, is fricking Anthony Mackie and Timothee Chalamet just sitting on the front row fricking being shown trailers for fricking Honkai Star Rail and Clash of Clans and Lego Fortnite?

Every year I wonder how Geoff can do this with a straight face.

It'd be fricking one thing if they were being show E3 stage show style, big cinematic trailers or demos, but half of the trailers shown aren't even presented like big fancy trailers, they're cut like straight up preroll ads.

      >companies actually feel a need to show up
Geoff already runs SGF, they don't need any more reason than the fact that he runs that shit.
The only company with enough groundswell to just drop a trailer on their own without any fanfare and actually get noticed is Rockstar. The vast majority of publishers don't get to do that, even other AAA publishers.

You guys keep forgetting one big detail: The Game Awards is a MUCH smaller event than even the earliest E3s.

E3s had a ground floor, stands, thousands of people. Companies had to prepare demos, merchandise, stands, hire people to work on booths. And the staff had to organize that nightmare.
TGA is literally just a gala stage and a band, most of the work is done by a small team that talks to studios throughout the year to arrange their presence in the event. But still, they don't even begin physically preparing for the event until a couple of weeks before. The thing gets rehearsed like a few times the week before.

Companies were no longer willing to put up with the work and costs of going to E3, but going to TGA is literally just preparing a trailer and giving paid tickets to the big bosses. Hell yeah, they're the ones getting exposition, barely get any work and a free trip, of course they'd approve of it.

And Geoff setting up a "winter's game fest" would be an even smaller event. It'd be just him in a studio in front of a greenscreen with a small production staff, and maybe a warehouse setup with some booths for demos, and sitting setups for interviews for press people and devs.

    It pretty much is E3.
The same shitty reveals just with a pointless award tacked onto it

Considering they're not overbooked with so many commercials and sponsors and trailers that they have to shotgun through categories that should get some pomp like "Best RPG", yeah it's either time to just drop the award show shtick entirely, or break it into two events: one for trailers/ads and the other an actual awards show.

No, since E3 actually had decent game reveals from time to time. This year's Game Awards had not a single game that I was even remotely interested in, and last year was nearly as lacklustre.
