Is there an RPG or JRPG where you can choose your own party members instead of them being given to you by the story? I can’t think of anything besides Pokemon

dunno
so what sort of super power is he going to get? is he going to be like Alucard Hellsing or like Guts Berserkman?'
I mean the only reason they ever do stunts like this is to explain why theyre a edgelorde hero in the future so
He becomes a healer lol
not as cool as being a goblin slaying autist but okay I guess. we all gotta start somewhere.
Nah. He becomes a healer. Rapes, murders, ressurects, rapes, murders, heals, and then mind wipes people

Icewind Dale let's you make a whole party. Pillars of Eternity let's you make a whole party which I was supremely grateful for because I disliked each character the game introduced to me.
Shit that sounds good I’ll check those out
Can’t believe I forgot SMT
That one rpg with like 108 party members or something idk somebody will know.
A lot of WRPGs.
Suikoden
Megami Tensei
Dragon Quest 3
Dragon Quest 9
Etrian Odyssey
Many old school RPGs that focused on gameplay role just had you create the entire party. The wizardry games for instance, icewind dales, etc. Even recently the Pathfinder games let you just make your own mercenaries.
Then you have games like Baldur's Gates where you are stuck with companions made by the devs but you have to pick and choose a few among a large possible cast and not strictly tied to the story.
For JRPG it's pretty much
I should add there are plenty more if you count dungeon crawling among rpgs. Legend of Grimrock which is more recent still has you build the entire party.
In the pathfinder games you can just custom design mercenaries instead of using the story party members, not sure if they carried this forward to rogue trader
Dragon's Dogma
Does Xenoblade 2 count?
Watch Dogs: Legion
Dragons dogma.
FF1

Radiata Stories, there's like 200 recruitable characters
Baldur's Gat
Diagaea
Rance if he an incel
Not even joking, Monster Girl Quest: Paradox. Almost every enemy in the game can be recruited Pokemon-style and almost all of them have unique dialogue both in your base and in the field. Besides this, you can recruit a ton of different npcs into your party as well, including some that you wouldn't expect.
Is this a porn game
Sure is!
