is there any realistic hardcore stealth games?
i like the genre but it feels like you can walk right next to enemies or walk on top of snow totally silent

Wondering this as well
Is Breakpoint as bad as they say it is?
nope they fixed it and added a ton of features it costs like $9 these days totally worth it. they added so many options you can play the game 100 different ways.
check out some breakpoint stealth videos on youtube it’s not bad besides muh drm.
shill
Does the game still have horrible anti realism features from Wildlands like a skill tree that makes 9mm explode cars on contact or how enemy VIPs entering a helicopter will instantly make it rocket up into the sky without even having to start the motor?
>like a skill tree that makes 9mm explode cars on contact or how enemy VIPs entering a helicopter will instantly make it rocket up into the sky without even having to start the motor
It does.
Sounds shitty then.
Vehicle damage ruined my first playthrough when I suddenly could never shoot drivers out of vehicles because hitting the headrest of the driver's seat would somehow cause the whole thing to spontaneously explode in a gargantuan fireball.
It's not as bad as wildlands in the vehicle damage department.
As for the helis you have to steal you either shoot the pilot guy first or there's a good 90% they'll take off out of there in like 2 seconds.
it used to be awful when it came out. its pretty okay now. i havent gotten too far with it yet, im not in the mood for big open world shit.
>Is Breakpoint as bad as they say it is?
Not anymore, it's actually really good. You can disable that moronic loot mode and pump up the difficulty, disable the HUD and everything. It's a great experience. Although your immersion can sometimes be ruined by the sci-fi shit.
Most people will tell you that Wildlands is a much better game, but that's definitely subjective. It's an absolute fact that Breakpoint has vastly superior stealth mechanics, and that's why I much prefer it over Wildlands. The fact that bodies persist and that guards can see them AND that you can move them changes everything.
the gear score can be kino for a full stealth solo survival play through
Wildlands has the objectively superior pvp mode. I daresay it might be the most fun multiplayer pvp Ubisoft has ever made.
It was mid
It's better now but it's not great.
You can customize loads of things about how you want to play it: enemy damage, how aware they are, how severe stamina consumption and fatigue are, if enemies show up on your minimap, if they have that little triangle above their heads etc.
You can go from very very casual to having to play very carefully. You can even turn off the loot drops so it doesn't play like a looter shooter.
Gunplay is alright and it's fun to customize your guns and your character's outfit.
That being said the story isn't great, it's structured badly and fighting bulletsponge drones isn't fun.
And your squad command options are very limited.
Play it with friends if you can, turn off all the UI helpers and play it like a hardcore tactical shooter.
>You can customize loads of things about how you want to play it: enemy damage, how aware they are, how severe stamina consumption and fatigue are, if enemies show up on your minimap, if they have that little triangle above their heads etc.
Not sure why you'd present this as a positive, it just means that the devs are clueless and are asking you to design the game for them.
it’s literally just a built in mod moron
The game was designed to be played with most of those helpers turned on and as a looter shooter.
I know this because they added the option to remove those things and the loot after the community pointed out how baffling some of these design decisions were.
Is the dialogue as awful as in Wildlands?
Worse.
Breakpoint solo immersive mode is pretty good tbh
Nope as realistic stealth would be annoying
you don’t realize the autism surrounding this genre. everyone thinks they are too easy and use mods to make them harder.
give me an example please, im geninuely curious
theres a mgsv mod called like final heaven or something,it lets you adjust enemy vision and hearing. i had a lot of fun with it trying to clear out an area with everyone on realistic life like vision/hearing
>you don’t realize the autism surrounding this genre
How many games have released that has warranted this autism? sorry but your garbage Ghost Recon game is not a stealth game. It's mechanics are quite shallow for any serious stealth fan.
kys metal gear gay
moron
I'm a Splinter Cell fan, well actually a fan of the first three games to be exact. Blacklist and Conviction were complete blunders and ruined the series.
>that guy on youtube that "supreme ghosts" (+some extra stipulations) Thief fan missions
>multiple runs clock well over 5 hours each
We have a game for like every single imaginable genre in existence. From building gigantic autism factories, to neckbeards ERPing as furries in VR - but not a single ultra-realistic stealth game.
Why
Because Stealth is super niche you idiot. These games are not profitable believe it or not. It's why they don't get made unless your name is Hideo Kojima. They require a sizeable budget to put out something good, and then it's gamble on how much it sells.
Doesn't necessarily need to be something made by an AAA company you autistic spaz.
Just takes a few guys who are fans of stealth games like Thief to decide to try out making a hardcore stealth game for a little profit and fun. Like Gloomwood, if that shit ever gets updated
>Crawl on your stomach an inch at a time for an hour
>Take some notes of enemy
>Crawl back for an hour
>"Mission Accomplished!"
we literally just want more aware that can detect you walking around
Then stop using moron terms like "ultra realistic" and say that instead.
sounds good to me
Because realistic stealth is slowly crawling into a bush, then laying in a bush for 2 days straight, shooting one shot and crawling back.
no it’s not moron you can stealth through active battlefields, darkness, rain, etc
Intravenous but it's not fps/tps sadly
depends on which paramater, it's not that hard to make some mechanics not annoying by gameifying them and make other mechanics more realistic
No, the genre is dead you dumb bastard. These games don't sell well. I've been begging for stealth games longer than you can imagine.
Not only is the criteria of realistic steam non existent. Count how many stealth games have been made in the triple A space in the past 5-10 years. Very little. The games with shoehorned mechanics don't count. And i kind of agree that realistic stealth isn't an amazing concept because being gamified in some sense is required to make it fun. Splinter Cell and Thief using light and sound mechanics is the best kind of design period. It's the most creative you can get with the genre.
In thief it's easier to go through the poor folk's houses since they have shitty floors
rich b***hes however have fine polished floors which make a LOT of noise when walked on compared to wooden floorboards, but they also have carpets you can safely run around on
i think it would just help if they had active battles and firefights in the background. stealth much way more sense.
I want ultra difficult, hyper sensitive guards who have peripheral vision, hear soft footsteps, see movement at a distance and are just as quick on the trigger as the player. Also, the thing that makes stealth games unrealistic is the guards stay in the same place ready for you to kill. AI guards with natural, organic and unpredictable movement is required. They CAN do it, they just probably won't, because it'd turn us into super soldiers
it would be nice to just add a difficulty that did that. breakpoint has a spartan mod which is apparently pretty similar to what you are describing but i haven’t tried it yet.
you can even adjust how sensitive the enemies are.
sweet thanks watching a YT on it now - 30 seconds in guy dead already kek kino
It really depends on what you mean by realistic hardcore stealth.
Death to the Spies is probably the hardest stealth game I have ever played.
Its a WWII themed hitman like from russias POV.
If you dont like furstration ignore it but it doesnt get harder than this
Also Sniper Elite exists but i have never played it do i cant comment on this one
"Realistic" stealth doesn't exist in real life you moron. Stealth in real life consists of crawling through empty fields at a snail's pace while wearing a bush wookie outfit and then staying in one place for hours and hours while nothing happens. Then a real war starts and you'll be lucky if you get to do it once.
no it doesn’t dip shit. a bunch of virgins who sit inside their entire life think they know everything about the world.
you can literally go on a airsoft field and do the video game stealth shit.
>airsoft is the same as real life combat
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I'll stealth into your mums house and ultra-realistically frick her in the ass
it actually involves a lot more tunneling than you'd first expect
and bombs
I would play a mission like that though.
>"Realistic" stealth doesn't exist in real life you moron
It exists, but you gotta be autistic enough to pull it up
Anything multiplayer
the enemies are as observant as real humans
I wish someone figured out how to make far away things render more camouflaged.
Units always stand out from the low detail at range. Shadows being absent also doesn't help either.
Tarkov made an attempt at fudging shadows at long ranges which is nice. Even if it isn't perfect.
If the game is supposed to be about stealth there needs to be some level of graphics enforced. No War Thunder ultra low quality bullshit where basically no foliage or props renders.
You'd be surprised.
Even with a mini-map that updates your position, you can still walk right behind people who only pay attentions to their immediate line of sight.
thief sim
very action movie but not very stealthy
Is this the splinter cell cameo of breakpoint?
it’s blacklist. it’s actually kinda stealthy this video sucks.
It looks betetr than I expected
with Blacklist, in most of the missions stealth isnt mandatory, but the game has a score system for different methods you use to clear the level.
i myself have not done it, but im sure some people will be able to enjoy perfect ghost runs (no killing, no knockout, never detected) on the highest difficulty. but some people couldnt be bothered and would sometimes in one sitting after a while get sick of sneaking around and just shoot the homies
Good god Blacklist was just fricking garbage.
>guy avoids stealth class and using stealth
>wtf garbage game!!
I remember the shitstorm when the reveal trailer was out. Anons were having a meltdown over it. Turns out the game did okay-ish in the stealth department (better than Conviction, not a high bar though) but the damage is already done.
On hard mode where all that cancer is disabled its pretty fun as far as modern action games go. The problem is its still modern ubisoft cancer with everything that comes along, and animations are unrealistic and too long.
I've actually replayed it two or three times since.
it's the action part of the trailer because pure infiltration is boring to watch and doesn't make people wanna purchase the game moron
I.G.I. Origins might be something you want to keep an eye out for. I don't know about how realistic it's going to be. But this is the closest you'll get i think. You have to take what you can get with this empty genre.
Huh I didn't even know about this.
I used to play IGI 2 alot when I was like 10, but when I replayed it few years back I couldn't stand it.
Whats so bad about it? Ive been thinking about replaying it for a while myself now
The dev team, Anti-matter Games, has been sacked
Yeah i mentioned it got canned after reading the news. What a shame. That's another rare moment of an AA stealth game being developed and then also going down the drain. We're currently back at zero upcoming games again.
Actually scratch IGI origins. Antimatter games got shut down recently. lol
Intravenous
Meme game shilled by the developer himself most likely on this board.
The game is pretty fun and he's making a sequel that has more fun porn
What makes it a meme game? Is it the Gachimuchi joke, Der coomer and Kurt Kobain cameos?
You no-game-playing Black person, it's a cornerstone of stealth games in the indie scene.
>welkom toe hou big is de map
>today we are going to inch-worm across the middle east... Enjoy...
Hoe isnthat movement any good, you move the body so much for so little movement. Sliding your legs sideways is a lot better
It's called low crawling. And it's good for when you absolutely have no upwards room to move in and need to stay as low as possible.
Yesu butto he crawru rike snake. He is snake afuta arru
>Create a game with so many mechanics.
>Barely use any of it because the game is 2 whole CDs full of cutscenes
That's what MGSV was meant to be and it broke me in ways I didn't even know were possible. I dont give two shits about the genre now.
I do want my single player tactical shooters back though.
>MGSV
I hope you're not serious. The enemies barely notice you driving a tank off to the side of their camp
these morons have the idea that’s realistic here
hence was
Given the trailers I remember seeing was a horse taking a fat shit and stopping a jeep. I can't really agree with your was.
I don't know if a realistic version of the kind of stealth we see in most video games is even possible tbh. Maybe something like Hitman, but take something like the first level in Thief for example, where you have to infiltrate a huge mansion patrolled by 10-20 guards and escape.
There just is no realistic version of that scenario, it would never happen in reality. You would have to never even come close to any of the guards to succeed. Maybe with a lot of luck you could slip by one or two, but you're not going to get away with that for long.
That kind of stealth that you see in most games, where you sneak by enemies in very close proximity to them, I just can't see there being a realistic version of that. The Hitman-type disguise stealth or the kind where anybody who might find you is in another wing of the building altogether is all I can see being realistic. Otherwise it's like asking for a realistic version of those shooters where one infantryman takes on and kills entire squads by himself, it just makes no sense.
It’s also notable that realistic stealth would demand a frick lot from the AI. Basically, assuming that you’ve infiltrating a place that is not on extra alert, guards should be far less perspective to lone random noises, yet more aware visually (easy), but the hard part comes with organic reactions to detections and abnormalities like missing guards. The AI would need to be very responsive, paranoid and relentless, with no lowering of alert level until the threat is surely cleared. Basically, it wouls be ”get detected once, you’re fricked”.
> Basically, it wouls be ”get detected once, you’re fricked”
It should still be a possibility to come back from this state like if you can customize difficulty. I remember seeing negative reviews about Intravenous because you can't put a casual mode where you can comeback to stealth after being spotted once
>Detected once
Basically yes. Guards should call in suspicious activity. If they just don't call in after. Someone needs to become suspicious about that.
Any patrols with a scheduled shift change. Or regular call ins. If they don't come back or don't call in. Send more dudes. Lock the place down or whatever is appropriate.
MGS2, 3 and V alone have this system. if you interrupt a guard in the middle of his patrol report, HQ either send additional support or handwave it if its a low alert or unimportant area.
MGSV has the area on medium alert for 24hrs after youre spotted. it doesnt demand as much as you think its just that the devs want even pleb players to complete their games. the original splinter cell had a 3 strike system to gameify the idea that you do need to be careful and not frick up because "realistically" the place would be impossible if it was established 100% there was an intruder
My impression of 2,3 and 5 was that it wasn't doing quite enough with it. 5 was better I agree. 2 and 3 were just a new patrol and another 2ish minutes of high alert iirc?
Besides, the whole thread is "but what if?!" Frick casuals, or even dedicated veterans progressing reasonably or finishing. I just want to see it happen.
We get all kinds of niche autism games. Just not this particular attempt at stealth
Intravenous
Wish stealth worked in Arma games
An actual realistic stealth game would something like Hitman where you would have to blend into the locals while maintaining a cover identity and you would have to do things like break into people's homes and wire tap phone lines and things like that
dude you can easily stealth around battlefield and night time with realistic ai
Personally I was thinking something like a mix of Hitman and Splinter Cell.
Rain World
Why would I use fixed iron sights while having an Eotech?
Stealth is boring as frick
adhd trannoid
I think the best approach would be a spy RPG like Alpha Protocol
There's a tabletop RPG called Delta Green which released a module about a task force that has to eliminate in ISIS controlled Mosul and has a bunch of mechanics that would be pretty cool for a video game
>Have a giant sandbox that allows you to tackle the mission is various way
>Various factions whose contacts will only help you out of you address their professional or personal needs
>You have to gather information on your opponent through various forms of of intelligence gathering
>You have need to have a balanced party with a wife variety of skills to so you can gather clues while making sure you're guys stay alive
Pic related does a good job with what I'm trying to explain
>to eliminate in
*to eliminate a cult in
>wife
*wide
Sorry for my crappy spelling
One thing I really liked about Shadow of the Tomb Raider was how enemies would realize someone went missing after a while if you took down one of them quietly.
So for example in group of say 5 enemies guarding an area, you take out one guy. After 30s or so they realize someone's missing and they start to actively search the area. So if you wanted to stealth through that encounter you'd have to be quick and efficient before they realize something's up.
Something like this I'd like to have in a proper stealth game (I wouldn't call SOTTR a stealth game). It was always weird how in MGS or Thief for example the last enemy patrolling an area wouldn't find it weird that he's not seen any other person in the last 5 minutes or whatever.
Modded fallout 4
Even the vanilla stealth system is solid. While in light enemies can see you from really far away and even if they don't see you if you shoot at them they'll blind fire back in your general direction. Enemies are also really perceptive to sound. The perk that makes you walk completely silent does break the stealth system however.
thief 1
Try Intravenous
Hitman on the hardest difficulty.
>Thief is still the most hardcore and best stealth game in general
>released 1998
Unpopular opinion but some of my favourite stealth in a vidya is in The Last of Us.
The animations, the weight of the characters, the fact that the game doesn't care if you play stealthy or not, there's no scoring system or stuff like that. If you get spotted you just have to improvise. It makes everything really tense.
I suppose the best way to do it is to give you an option to plan out your stealth but when your cover is blown, it's full shooty bang bang.
>is there any realistic hardcore stealth games?
original Splinter Cell/OFP/Arma
yeah, you read those last two right. OFP/Arrma
I played a stealth pvp scenario in arma ages ago. One team is trying to escape a crashed helicopter at night. The other team is the search party. I believe the heli crew had pistols at most. While the patrol was far more heavily armed and had jeeps or similar.
It was honestly great. Custom map on a fairly small island. The heli crew got captured more often than not.
Seeing the headlights and flashlights coming through the forest was tense as frick.
No nvgs
not him but I wish I could play something like this, I also watched a video with a nearly similar scenario except it was a squad of 4 with nvgs that had few objectives on an island against 30 or more players communicating with talkies, vehicules and stuff patrolling to find the squad
We used a cold war mod with Russia and Sweden. So it was set quite far in the past. Not having them was reasonable. Nvgs would take away the tense oh shit they're coming moments too.
I've wanted to play what you described as well though. One small high tech operator team. Vs many more guys with flares and flashlights
>Nvgs would take away the tense oh shit they're coming moments too.
Yeah that's true in this sort of scenario where you're hunted, contrary to infiltrating an island to take datas or some shit probably like in splinter cell where nvgs would be mandatory (or maybe not to make it more tense as you said)
I've been having fun trying to stealth in mw2 especially on the bigger maps. It gets better when they start getting more aware of you and start patrolling and setting up claymores.
Stealth games are casual goyslop for lazy people uninterested in video games that want to do nothing but move forward at 1mph while taking in atmosphere
Alien Isolation, kinda.
The game becomes much easier once you get the flamethrower though
There's an upcoming stealth game that is heavily inspired by Splinter Cell but i can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Shame.
hear me out. Mulitplayer games with big maps.
ive had the most fun in stealth on- bare with me here. BFV. suppressed 1911 only, storming my way into a shoreside point by myself trying not to be seen and taking out stragglers. even just sniping has some stealth elements to it. the closest you can get to realistic stealth is against other human players. that said. frick off saying "real stealth is too hard". dont give a frick. make it hard then.
realistic stealth is an oxymoron
>what are commandos.
during WW2 they scrapped so many weapons either because they were too loud, or their low volume was because they didnt even produce enough power to kill someone. "no killing" isnt a prerequisite for an activity to be considered stealthy.
it is unrealistic to crouchwalk through a half lit base unseen. it isnt unrealistic to shoot and dispose of the patrols and retrieve whatever it is you entered for, then exit without being seen. Even modern day, there are dozens of instances of theft wherein nobody saw anyone and everything was gone the next morning
Well aside from Splinter Cell remake of course. And if you want to call Ass Creed a stealth game then i guess you can count Mirage.
If you want to play an indie splinter cell inspired game you could always try Cloak & Dagger: Shadow Operations
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1923080/Cloak__Dagger_Shadow_Operations/
And there's an upcoming stealth game called No Sun to Worship. I don't remember if this one got cancelled or not.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2202470/No_Sun_To_Worship/
You can also try Undetected.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1715350/UNDETECTED/
There's also Ninja Simulator as an upcoming game that's probably more Tenchu inspired.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1323140/Ninja_Simulator/
>b-but this isn't what I'm looking for! i wanted realistic stealth
Tough shit, this genre is dead and it's not coming coming back. You're lucky to get anything at this stage.
First one seems rough around the edges, and features basic stealth IIRC aside from the chaos theory mechanics like different speed and light detection
The second one just got its steam page up and the dev has been releasing a lot of indie games (like the one you mentioned just after this) so I don't think it's gonna get canceled
About Ninja Simulator I don't think it's gonna release soon or ever since it's made by these shadowy companies that make some bullshit trailer to see if people wants a game and then maybe put some money to make it.
You can mention Intravenous 2 that is set to release next year around summer and Payday 3 that is said to have better stealth than previously. And maybe TRANSIENCE but it's probably gonna be basic stealth too
ARMA 3
Mgs5 genuinelly made you feel like you were a one man seal team 6
arma 3
if you get spotted from 3 football fields away you die, just like you would irl
