Still waiting for an HD Remake
Millions of shotacons were born
I don't understand why the devs were so stubborn to not let you aim with the second circle pad.
Because the game requires fast cursor movement which isn't possible with analogue sticks.
Gyro might have sorta worked, but then you'd lose the 3D they were trying to market at the time.
The controls were fine.
Gyro is cancer so I'm glad they didn't include it
skill issue
This is ridiculously false and Metroid Prime Remaster proves it.
I'm so happy I've never had to play Prime games with dual analog.
Prime games are played with single analog. the other stick is used for beam switching.
prime remaster plays pretty well with a dual stick and gyro setup
Well no shit, the original game didn't ask you to aim at all, so adding more aiming options doesn't really change how the game plays.
it does make certain things easier/more pleasant like tracking chozo ghosts
>why did they stubbornly not waste time and money on gimping their own game in support of a literal-who peripheral?
The game already has several alternate control methods, including one to move the reticle with the face buttons, it'd take absolutely zero effort to remap those to the second stick.
I tried to do this with Citra and understood immediately why Kid Icarus has to be played on real hardware. Damn that game was truly amazing. I miss the online mode and artillery claws spam.
Hardware limitations. The OG 3ds could seriously not handle the second joystick. They said they tried and it could not be due to the hardware.
hardware limitations aka we had to fit our 3d gimmick literally nobody used that we couldn't abandon because 3DS was a good pun and a second stick and made the wrong choice
>3d gimmick literally nobody used
Speak for yourself. I fricking love the 3d on 3ds. Though I do agree overall I would have preferred a second stick instead.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_3DS_video_games
looking at this list and most of these games either literally didn't use 3D or used it in the most "nintendo has a gun at our heads" method like how in fire emblem you can turn on 3D mode so the little talking heads have a slight 3D diorama effect
also 3D which requires you to hold the device at a very specific angle to not activate seizure vision is anathema to the point of handheld system that encourages you to play anywhere and hold it in whatever way is comfortable for you but mainly the games that sold well barely used it
Yeah I know it saddens me to know what could have actually been. Honestly the best uses of 3d on 3ds is Kirby Planet Robo, Samus Returns and KIU, and maybe mighty switch force. It was pretty cool on there too.
the best use of 3D is unironically 3D land because it helps with depth perception and allowed them to do some cool stuff with level design, making entire stages where you have to fall on platforms below you with a top down perspective
Just having better depth perception was a boon overall. Monster Hunter made it very easy to gauge distances between the monster and your attack.
Goddamn, depth perception is the true benefit of 3d.
I homebrewed a new 3ds. There is 3D super mario 64 homebrew. I consider it amazing and the best way to play super mario 64, very highly recommend, 3D platformers were a big missed opportunity on 3ds. Imagine 3D crash, 3D banjo or 3D sonic adventure. Hopefully 3d Nintendo 64 emulation comes one day
Are you talking about the source port to the 3ds? Or is there a new one that actually uses the 3d effect?
How could you forget Super Mario 3D Land?
I can't play because my hands are too big for the 3ds
>good gameplay on paper
>shit controls and enemy telegraphs
that fricking Magnus mission on 9.0, man
>almost clear Magnus on 9.0
>eat shit and die on a pillar I've never once been hit before in the flying segment in god's name how many runs
i have memories of this pain, especially with how much of a hassle it is to survive to the flying segment at all, let alone the Pit fight being complete trial and error itself
It was clunky to control and boring to play. I know the Dark Souls 2 chuds don't want to hear it, but it's not called filtering if it's just a bad game.
Currently playing it on pic related and the controls are so comfortable that I can't imagine any other way
Are you using a stylus or your finger for that?
that sounds horrible
Right touch pad acts as the touch screen.
>Currently playing it on pic related and the controls are so comfortable that I can't imagine any other way
Controller on your left hand, pen tablet for your right hand
This actually sounds great
It requires some set up from your pen tablet's middleware, but it works far better than using a second analog stick.
I thought about this for a while, but I think the game might work better with a trackball. I know several arcade games use a trackball for aiming. Pic related, The Grid's layout looks perfect for Kid Icarus Uprising.
Gryo aim would not work with flicking the camera around on foot, but Star Fox 64 3D shows how well gyro aim works on a rail shooter.
>Gryo aim would not work with flicking the camera around on foot
of course it would
Why did Sakurai bait fans so hard with hints about a remake/remaster only for nothing to happen?
This is in my top 5 games ever.
This was the last truly special video game as far as I'm concerned. Everything since has just been derivative or disappointing. But this game went above and beyond in every regard.
The dub is the best part.
>get the credits after killing medusa
>think "hey, that was a pretty good game"
>ENTER hades
>realize this is just act 1
>Fight Hades for 1 chapter
>Suddenly, Viridi drops a nuke
>And then aliens invade
>And then there's a timeskip
No wonder this shit almost killed Sakurai, it's like 5 games in one.
I remember being surprised at how short it was. Like it had to hinge on replay value like a lot of rail shooters. I was annoyed they didn't resolve Dark Pit's story. Then Hades shows up.
Having a short release title on a portable console is nothing unheard of so although it seemed short it didn't seem suspiciously short to me under the guise of replayability
>Game loosely based on Greek myth.
>Suddenly fricking aliens show up.
>Doesn’t feel particularly out of place.
How did they do it?
because they ran with it and had killer music to go along with it.
iirc they didn't turn and say "wowie guys there are aliens in our greek myth game wowie zowie
they showed up and were a huge threat so everybody had to team up.
Because they look incomprehensible, show up, refuse to extrapolate, and then get summarily BTFO.
>Suddenly fricking aliens show up.
Frickin Twice in one game.
Uprising's constant eselcelation is kino.
>Oh the real big bas
>Oh forces of nature
>Oh aliens
>Oh corrupted skyward
>Oh space chariots
>Oh the Warp
>Oh yeah Hades, let's get a mechsuit.
My only complaint is that the Chaos Spawn arc is so fricking intense with such high stakes and buildup that the eventual showdown with Hades feels like an anti-climax.
It is very in-line with how greek myths work, demigods, gods and titans are very opportunistic and love using the bullshit of toehrs to start bullshit themselves, ending up in clusterfrick wars involving everyone, they're like a bunch of gossipy in-laws on Christmas who can't wait for the drama to start so they can bring up their personal grievances.
And their first main theme was groovy jazz music.
And it just... works.
The Aurum chapters are just so fricking good.
i fricking love that theme so much, but then the game was full of top tier themes
>Aurums invade
>nobody has any idea wtf is going on
>Pyrrhon shows up sounding like every superhero ever voiced
>all the gods team up for the occasion trying to one-up each other
Actual peak
The absolute state of americans.
>it filtered millions....
The english dub sucked and everyone outside america that wasn't japan had to play that garbage dub and localization. So of course it filtered millions.
Get some taste
the dub was good
it's one of the only examples of the "frick the original script, localize the shit out of it" strategy ever actually working and creating a better product. Hades hams it up to high heaven and I wouldn't have it any other way
I've gone through the Japanese script, it's extremely generic and dull. I can't believe they Japanese audiences even put up with that shit.
Sakurai himself wanted the dub to be the way it was, and Treehouse went fricking hard on roles
Like seriously, Ali Hillis, Anthony Del Rio, Hayden Watch, and even Troy fricking Baker
They so wanted Kid Icarus to become a household name again. I remember seeing Nintendo vans near expos with massive Pits plastered on the side. But the dream died.
I would say it did its job
It’s hard to follow up, smash 4 was it’s indulgement
>Sakurai himself wanted the dub to be the way it was
>Haha, yes! Not only do I want the hwaito piggus to have a completely different script than my native Nihongo, I will PERSONALLY sign off on a boring, lifeless script for my country!
I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying that Sakurai's a moron if it's true.
Sakurai personally wrote the story. He's a good game designer, and the story overall is both crazy and fun, but the dialogue could use some love too instead of being generic and obsessed with matter-of-fact explanations.
But again, I've not heard any complaints from the Japanese fanbase so maybe they prefer it like that.
That’s not it at all
Japanese version’s dialogue was good, in a way that won’t translate well for us
See
japanese people have terrible taste
hades basically makes the game
every game almost kills sakurai because he's a moronic workaholic
>the Japanese script, it's extremely generic and dull.
it's literally almost exactly the same as the dub, down to the cadence, you lying homosexuals
you can even use a japanese voices hack and most of the time the dubtitles match well
Along with Panty & Stocking and Black Lagoon, it's among the only nip media ever created that is more enjoyable in english than japanese
Obligatory Ghost Stories mention for namedropping John Stossel
People still don’t know what the Palutena and Viridi heart donation is for.
I could’ve sworn it added more dialogue in replays but that might be placebo
How does this play on an emulator? Any hacks that make it play good with a M+KB like Primehack?
You can't. My 3DS prays every day, "please let me die," but I can't, because it's the only way to play Kid Icarus Uprising properly.
>pokemon xy coin daycare trick
Was this really made by playing Uprising?
I remember the biggest report of damaged circle pads back in the day was the Sm4sh 3DS version.
>thumbpad came off
This is exactly what happened to me when I played Smash on 3ds
As long as it's a clean break like yours, you can glue it back. I've glued mine back about 3 times which lasted long enough each time until the plastic under the pad itself became brittle. I've swapped it out now which isn't too hard and definitely worth it.
Only issue is that most circle pads will be of the size of the small 3DS even if marketed for XL, but it will work just as well
See
I don't like when people draw her as a mommy when she's hardly a young adult in the game. Like early 20s tops
what a devilish pitbawd (in both senses of the word)
JUST
this was literally the only reason i came to this thread.
Pit is such a dweeb.
An adorable dweeb.
Sakurai said in an interview that the Japanese was based on dialects that only Japanese understands, translating it won’t work, so he wanted the localizers to do the same with the dub and we got the amazing beauty that we did
>The Japanese version is definitely very comedic too. It’s something that takes advantage of the nuances of Japanese conversation, and not all of it works directly in English. We had NOA handle the localization, and I told them to change the meaning and content as much as they want – that I wanted conversations that sound natural and enjoyable to a native speaker
wow so uprising is maybe the one time that worked out
>"Well, I must say I am impressed. Such a teeny tiny angel defeating a big bad god of the underworld. Why Pitty... that must make you the most powerful Nintendo character of all time."
Kirby needs to suck up something with legs so he can fricking KNEEL.
Pit only kneels to orally service his mistress Palutena.
>Pit only kneels to lick the nectar of the heavens off the pussy of a goddess
Another Pitty W
>108 unique weapons
>They're all pretty fun
>Never satisfied with the one I picked
The game just made me wish the default running speed was faster. +4 speed Brawler Claws are like crack, it's hard to play other weapons once you've experienced it.
imagine the /ss/ golden age that would be fostered upon us if they made a switch/switch 2 hd remaster
My dick would not live
>millions
Heh, yeah sure
So is she Pit's mom or something?
He's her apprentice. Really it's more like a brother sister relationship
She's everyone's mom in the same sense that yaveh is everyone's dad.
Sex.
Electrifying sex with Phosphora.
I really think this might be the best setting Nintendo has made. It's a real shame that they hate to utilize their best franchises.
Could you imagine a sequel that expands even deeper on the lore? Has hub worlds, even more weapons, etc
It saddens me how fricking dead this game is in the public conciousness.
Why would that ever fricking matter to you though?
See
and people being social inherently
Because it weakens the chances for a sequel.
Every time I try to convince someone to give it a shot they're like "if it's so good, how come nobody played it?"
it was never going to be a mainstream hit because it's fundamentally a "hardcore" oldschool arcadey game
I played the first level and it hurt my hands
I would like to formally pitch a Star Fox crossover game
They both frick her!
She fricks them.
Shota double veganal
Strong cuckold scenario here honestly. You just know Pitoo is a better frick
Viridi called dibs.
He fricks them both, pit fricks neither
t. Pittoo
Pit fricks me.
Go to bed Viridi
Go to bed Pandora.
The fact that shit picked up instantly in Chapter 2 with Magnus and Dark Lord Gao shown to be a girl after being defeated was fricking cool
You're fricking cool
I wish the humans had more agency in the story. That one dude we meet was so cool
>sin and punishment with a tiny screen so you cant see shit without constantly panning the camera, stiff buttons you're expected to mash to fire the entire time you're playing, and touch screen controls instead of analog precision
game genuinely fricking stinks. it has some really nice production values and its a shame it bombed because it was the last real game sakurai ever made instead of just another smash iteration but there was 0 fricking excuse to put this on the 3DS over the wiiu besides the 3DS selling way more at the expense of the game
>stiff buttons you're expected to mash to fire the entire time you're playing
what is this mongoloid talking about
why I'm talking about these stiff plastic fisher price shoulder buttons both the ds and 3ds had that would get stick and unresponsive after prolonged use, like in a game where you are required to attack constantly because its a high speed shooting game with a billion enemies and your attack button is the L trigger.
there are tons of stories of people actively breaking their fricking device because of this game and having to get the trigger fixed
looks like a skill issue, maybe try not being a moronic amerimutt with bovine fingers
having fat fingers would make stiff buttons that don't have any slack (unlike the psp which actually depresses a lot in order to lower tension on its triggers) would make this problem less of an issue, not more my seething brown friend
I think the buttons are fine. The problem is they stop fricking working unless. Both of my shoulder buttons dont fricking work anymore. The only way to get them to work is to blow into them at full fricking force and then they work for ten mins before stopping. Need to play KIU with the damn CCP for the shoulder buttons. But honestly its WAY better playing that way. Way more comfy and the triggers feel so much nicer then the buttons.
> Both of my shoulder buttons dont fricking work anymore.
because they're shitty stiff plastic and you mashed them down because you were playing an exciting action game till you turned them into mush
>the triggers feel so much nicer then the buttons.
because the buttons also feel like crap on the 3DS, one of the least egronomic devices made this side of the atari jaguar
He's right though. In 5 DS generations they didn't figure shoulder buttons out and i had them become unresponsive on every single DS except for my XL
came here for this, so I can leave the thread.
the only correct analysis to ever make against KIU is bringing up how much Sin and Punishment does everything better. Because before I played that game, I actually excused a lot of KIU's flaws and awkwardness, because I thought it was the only game doing what it does. In retrospect, it wasnt true challenge, and it's setpieces are incredibly uninspired. A lot of its interactions, rely on the lack of stable control of the controls. I'm just remembering the first dark pit fight which I actually found to be really tense and fun at first, but after playing Sin and Punishment, I'm remembering how brain-dead the projectiles being thrown at me where, but because of the way you're supposed to dodge and move the camera, it made the fight seem way more tense than it really is.
>games have different rulesets and systems and how one thing works in one game, it won't be the same in the other
Yeah, that's video games for you
somehow this looks like art made before the game even existed
Remember when the Rogue Squadron devs were working on a Wii Kid Icarus game?
Yeah, and for once, I’m happy it was canned.
Factor Five would have been a way better match for Star Fox honestly.
>Pit probably gets pegged by Palutena.
Pit breeds Palutena
Pit does whatever Palutena wants him to, he's probably done both.
>thought you seen it all in the last few chapters
>reviving pit so we can finish off hades
>fricking Pandora shows up in the last minute out of Dark Pits wings at the life pool and becomes a cum demon
why did they make Hades a friendless loser?
Destroyed Skyworld is one of my favorite sequences, that shit was built up perfectly. Pit getting fed up and telling Viridi and Hades to shut the frick up gets you.
>HD port on Switch never ever
>Uprising 2 on Switch never ever
Good. SJW shit that deserved to fail. Death to """localizers""", AI will do a way better job
I want to play this again but my 3DS needs a refurbish
What's the best way to set this up for mouse and keyboard play on Citra?
The thumb pad broke because smash gays were trying to play like Melee
>That moment when you fight Palutena and Pit ends up accidentaly killing her, causing a game over.
Made me kek for some reason.
I love goddesses that frick their shota servants
>we'll lose multiplayer in three months
I couldn't get anyone to play with me anyway.
Multiplayer was fun
Loved using Boss weapons, for me it was the Cerberus Canons.
Also im still mad Hades and Medusa don’t get their own weapons, just the implication of the Viper Blade and that Arm that makes the hades laugh sound
Probably in my top 3 games of all time. Put like 255 hours into it but could never beat boss rush on hard or get the few remaining multiplayer exclusive powers to finish up the last achievement board.
Medusa may have killed millions, but I will kill BILLIONS
VIRIDI dicky
This game was universally loved thought. Those hands cramps were worth It.
>hands cramps
skill issue
Her menu theme was better too
>KI:U development ongoing
>Sakurai suddenly descends on the guy making the main menu
>starts questioning him about what you can do to make a fun menu
>"uhhhh I dunno, make them do fun sounds?"
>decides on the spot that you should be able to rearrange the menu just the way you want with the stylus because that shit's fun
I think this was in Iwata Asks, that part sort of cemented to me just how dedicated Sakurai is to interactivity.
The goddesses should have been more appropriately sized.
I'm left-handed.
And I didn't use the touch screen, for some ungodly reason.
My time with this game was agonizing.
And I'm so very, very sad that we still have 13 years to go until the sequel.
