Literally just install Windows 10 LTSC and spend time properly debloating it. Despite what everyone tells you, it's actually entirely doable if you put the effort in, and the result is an operating system that actually works.

They have different issues.
7 is mostly fine for old games, but doesn't have dx12 support unless you use vkd3d port from linux and some modern games (especially VN remakes).
10/11 is obviously good for modern games, but getting older stuff to run is a royal pain in the but or straight up impossible.

I've used LTSC for over 4 years and just switched out to 22H2 last month, for starters not having access to the Store was always a pain in the ass. Yeah you can enable it via powershell but it was glichty as fuck and I couldn't use Gamepass on it. Then again that might be because I was stuck with 2019 LTSC with no way to upgrade but that's also a problem - you can't upgrade LTSC

>unstable and unreliable (inb4 windows is the same - i've never had issues with windows)

>>you need to use the terminal for literally everything
Name one thing. >certain tools only work on distro X while others only work on distro Y
Name one tool.
>name one thing you need to use the terminal for
You're kidding, right? Last time I used chudix you had to open the terminal to install just about anything. And IIRC there was this retarded concept of "making files executable" with chmod. With Windows, you just run setup.exe and it does the job for you.
>name one tool
It's availability of packages in the package managers that's the main problem here. If package X is a requirement to run program Y but X isn't available in your distro's package manager, you have to jump through a number of hoops to get it working (if it's even possible in the first place). And I believe certain scripts don't work on different distros either. I don't have any specific examples in mind, but it's an obvious issue.
>You're kidding, right? Last time I used chudix you had to open the terminal to install just about anything.
Last time I used Linux (yesterday), I didn't. >And IIRC there was this retarded concept of "making files executable" with chmod.
That doesn't require the terminal. Right-click file, click properties, click permissions tab, check execute permission box. But this may differ slightly depending on the desktop environment, which is why people may just tell you to use chmod (which will work on every Linux system). >With Windows, you just run setup.exe and it does the job for you.
Okay. If you run the Linux equivalent of a "setup.exe", let's say a GOG installer for a native game, then the installed game will be executable by default because there's no reason an installer script can't execute chmod for you. Only the installer itself would need to be made executable. And this is how I like it. In general, I don't want downloaded files to be executable until I explicitly give that permission. >but I don't like it
Then don't use Linux.
>'name one thing you need to use the terminal for' >Names something you don't need terminal for >'name one tool' >Can't even name one, but I SWEAR THERES PLENTY, GUYS!!!!
So you want me to give up all the software I use on a daily basis and replace it with some inferior freeware garbage (eg. Photoshop vs GIMP) instead?
Once again, no thanks.
yes? even if you want to argue that your crappy commercial software is better it doesn't matter. people that are more skilled then you use free software and get along just fine
Being a child means having to use the terminal.
Being an adult means GETTING to use the terminal.
I will never get over how one of the biggest barriers keeping midwits out of linux is the complete nondesire to learn how to use a tool that makes using your computer so much easier and more efficient.
Though the one point I'll concede to you is driver support, especially if you use Nvidia. But that's also not the fault of the OS, it's Nvidia being garden gnomes. AMD makes their drivers open source and they're leagues better than on Windows.
>Midwits
I highly doubt you're intelligent as you may claim you are. Most high end computer geeks that use Linux are savants due to focusing on nothing but their specific computer hobbies in life, but placed in a position outside their keyboard and they're the most useless members of society.
Reality is; Linux is stuck in this position of wanting more people to use it, but also insulting people for not using it or claiming its not for them. It leaves the general perception of a Linux user to be seen as insufferable to the broader masses
You're making a lot of assumptions champ. I never claimed to be intelligent, I claimed you have to be a midwit to be warded off by the terminal of all things, like a kid who doesn't wanna eat his vegetables. Do you get warded off of exercising too because it burns?
I use powershell on Windows. Terminal is not the reason why I'm not using chudix. >no HDR >Gayland has high latency >X has tearing >no Adobe >games run worse than windows on nvidia >multiple games require troubleshooting >troubleshooting in general is more complicated while on windows it's just googling the issue and having the answer in 5 minutes >it takes a few months before latest hardware is supported, on Windows it's day one
If you're the fag I replied to, you're a morongay liar because you fucking listed using the terminal as a downside in that post.
If you're interjecting just to feel superior though, I'll wank your ego and say that most of these are valid issues on linux sans the support issue. I used Windows since XP and Arch for the last 3 years. Troubleshooting has always been a mixed bag for windows, on linux looking for solutions to problems is straightforward and simple, though sometimes tedious. Windows troubleshooting has a good one in three chance of requiring the use of a third party program to circumvent the problem entirely, or just outright break the functionality of Windows to get it to stop causing my problem. Great example is trying to play Back 4 Blood through gamepass and it causing a fucking memory leak in Windows Defender. And Defender doesnt let you disable it unless there is an "approved" antivirus on the OS.
I am not the anon you replied to in the beginning. I just listed off reason why I went back to Windows. I used arch for 2 months fully intending to not go back but I switched back after realising I'm subjecting myself to worse experience for no tangible benefits. I ended up going back to Windows 11, manually heavily debloating and customizing it. It took me two days but I haven't had to do any troubleshooting beyond that and have been using it half a year already with no issues.

don't trust third party tools or custom isos, only ever get isos and exexutables from MS directly
>Gayland has high latency
not with low latency modes in every modern compositor >X has tearing
you're choosing to have tearing by not using tearfree >games run worse than windows on nvidia
on wayland, because of nvidia >troubleshooting in general is more complicated while on windows it's just googling the issue and having the answer in 5 minutes
protondb.com >it takes a few months before latest hardware is supported, on Windows it's day one
no, amd and intel have been merging hardware support into mesa and the kernel weeks to months ahead of time for years
waytards have a cope for everything. it's never wayland's fault, is it? it's all the other software. it's application developers. it's game developers. it's your hardware. your computer's too slow.
wayland adds latency because it is a compositing protocol. compositing will always be less responsive than single-buffered drawing. you can't change this.
Anonymous
I don't even use wayland. Gnome is just shit on both X and wayland. KDE has proper low latency wayland support and of course a compositor for X11. >wayland adds latency because it is a compositing protocol
Yes and an X11 compositor or tearfree do the same thing. You choose between latency and tearing on everything, whether's it's wdl or kde/gnome/DE/WM of choice.

Anonymous
>poor performance is hardware bound

I mean sure KDE is relatively resource heavy as a DE, even if you turn off compositing on X, but it shouldn't be an issue on modern hardware. Personally I'd care more about it trying to run file indexing all the time than adding 0.5% gpu load.
>a tool that makes using your computer so much easier and more efficient.
I would hardly call CLI more efficient and easier than a graphical interface. That is, after all, precisely why GUIs exist: they are easier to use than CLI.
What CLI ostensibly offers is better control, but that has more to do with the OS and the inherent design than the fact it is CLI specifically. Whether you're typing a command with flags or whether selecting options and pushing a button, whatever is doing had to be explicitly exposed to user. A GUI could do everything CLI does, if only someone codes it.
The problem is the philosophy of design behind windows doesn't allow that.
Every game I own before switching to Linux works perfectly. And if the game doesn't work, a simple command can be copy+pasted into the launch options to make it work. Remember to always look at the protondb page before checking the game out.
Even mods work fine too.
Very few Steam games from my library are even compatible on Ubuntu which is arguably the most popular Linux distro.
What I can play is mostly indie games what still have updates on 2023 like Isaac, Baba Is You, Super Hexagon; but not even a dozen of AAA titles run on my machine.
MAYBE Arch could have more compatibility since it's the distro SteamOS is based on, but I don't care enough to try.
idk anon, I'm too lazy to go check my laptop, but over half of my library says it's "not compatible with Linux".
If there's any tool you can install to force the compatibility is beyond me. I never intended to use Linux to play games.
>discord work on it well?
No. Discord is literally the only program I've installed whose official DEB file is straight up garbage.
It's an horrendous experience, you can't setup your mic/webcam without doing a ton of adjustments, and sometimes the interface doesn't work and video calls/streams are shown as black screens.
Thank god I'm not a fan of Discord, but the few times I've HAD to use it on my Ubuntu laptop, I just use the web version.
When you are a Linux user, you get accustomed to troubleshooting EVERY single thing you install, lmao.
But when it comes to Discord, I didn't really troubleshoot it much, I just Googled shit like "why Discord screen black Ubuntu" and then you get a ton of nerds in forums saying >"ummm see, its actually your fault because you forgot to install x and modify y text file and then run z"
At that point I said fuck it and just loaded the web version.

there are still many valuable companies who have programs integral to xp, XP was a good os it just wasnt prepared for the internet and lacked sufficient protection against it out of the box
>Did XP users go full retard like this when XP support got dropped?
Yes. Even when Windows 7 was out for a few years and already considered the best OS, there where whackjobs who absolutely refused to move from Windows 2000. Sometimes it's because they have no reason to upgrade their PC and that's okay. But in the case of Win7tards still hanging on it's a special kind of ignorance.
not really, the main thing that XP was missing was 64-bit. which the OEM/enterprise version later got but *for some reason* ms didn't offer this to retail consumers. regardless, this gave users a legitimate cause to upgrade as by the time 64-bit mattered, 7 had already superseded vista. whereas no actual necessary functionality exists in 10 or 11, just as none existed for 8. the only motivation to switch are companies arbitrarily deciding to drop support, and if you don't need their support, then there still isn't a reason.
>install loonix >everything I give a shit about works >don't have to wrestle with OS just to make it stop spying with me
Never switching to Windows 10+, shill pajeets.
if win10/11 had the same frequent programs in their start menus similar to 7; instead of this manual pinning and bing search bullshit, i would like both of them much more.
if you just expand the start menu to show as many recent programs as possible, literally everything you use will show up in that list.
Didn't the xp source code leak a while ago? Why don't you guys just tinker with that and add modern support to it since you don't like linux and microsoft engineers are somehow simultaneously retarded spaghetti code pajeets and also deep state illuminati hyper spy agents who want to know what onlyfans whore you fap to?
That's been Microsoft's MO since the start. IIRC there's still ancient DOS code inside W11 because they just layer everything on top of their old code and frankenstein it into a new OS so they can have an easier time of keeping it backwards compatible.
Because compared to the 1st world countries that always seem to have the latest tech effortlessly, and then choosing NOT to makes no sense to them. They strive to get the latest, cleanest thing and when an American/English/etc chooses not to upgrade they cannot comprehend why they would voluntarily turn their back on that privilege.
Got construction tools from soviet union that are better than the modern shit i can buy. Planned obsolence aint just a meme. Old crap is way superior even if its 40+ years old.
Operating systems aren't fucking inanimate tools you retard. Computers have always become quickly outdated but still technically work in stasis. The problem is that people expect to use a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD OS while connected to the internet to do everyday tasks when security updates were dropped years ago. CVE's still get found, zerodays always exist, and software makers shouldn't have to support extremely outdated operating systems.
an operating system is a tool. it should provide useful functionality and otherwise stay the fuck out of the way when i'm using whatever program i want. i was happy using an existing tool, but that was taken away. now i can't find an alternative tool that is comfortable and doesn't have loads of retarded indian design decisions. and apparently i deserve to be raged at for wanting to keep using the old tool.

There's a reason as to why Microsoft had the shit sued out of them for how they rolled out Windows 10.
I will never use anything beyond Windows 7, 10 is aids and 11 is somehow even worse, if the time ever comes that I genuinely cannot keep using 7, which is unlikely, i'll move to a full Linux setup that doesn't do as it please and require the user to constantly guard against the OS itself bricking their systems.

No i'm a VFX developer and W10 is shit for developers, we need our machines to be working 24/7 as work stations during the day and part of render swarms at night.
Literally no one working with cutting edge technology in a production environment relies on anything beyond W10 because they need their machines to be oprational, when your machine can brick because it had a logiticech usb device plugged in during an update, it's a bad OS. Meanwhile every plane on the planet is being kept in the air by Windows XP or older and every government on the planet forbids the use of anything post Windows 7 because of how compromised Windows 10+ is.

doubt it but maybe true so i won't argue it. Still doesn't change the fact that it will never be patched and once it's insecure it will forever be insecure. People are getting really mad at this obvious truth. Why?
Unpatched OS is going to remain unpatched and people are getting mad at me for saying it.

That's not true whatsoever. I work at NIST and we upgraded to Win 10 6 years ago. Usually takes a few years to adopt a new operating system primarily because of safety concerns. Same occurred when the computers upgraded from XP to 7. That didn't occur until around 2012.

That's a per-country problem, not a Microsoft problem. Microsoft working with US govt to dominate the world outside the US is normal business. If you don't like it, you shouldn't be using Windows to begin with. But even the ragheads in Afghanistan and Iran are using it in places like nuclear power plants. Stuxnet targeted Windows operating systems, and the retards in Iran were using, guess what, Microsoft Windows. There's a reason the 3rd world remains the 3rd world, and not just because of being exploited for their raw resources by the world hegemon.

>once a major unpatched exploit hits for windows
what counts as a major exploit to you? for people who understand computer security the only thing i'd consider a "major" exploit is remote code execution that doesn't require action from the user, e.g. blaster worm from the XP days. which is no longer a realistic threat because everyone has a gateway now so unsolicited messages are auto filtered by NAT. also nobody uses IE anymore so even solicited connections are far more secure than they were in the blaster days. how are you planning to get me through my NAT, firefox esr, and javascript blocker? why would you, the cybercriminal, bother to get at the 1% of win7 users this way when you have a much easier time finding lucrative 0-days to use against the 95% of users on poorly tested rapid release builds of win10/11 and chromium?
see as an IT worker your requirements are to secure PCs while keeping things simple to use for clueless boomers who click on everything they're asked to while running public servers that have to accept unsolicited requests. in large part that means you rely on the vendors to patch their stuff and hope it's enough. that's your reality and it makes sense for that domain. but that has nothing to do with me, or, if you're half as qualified as you're implying, your home PC. the only user on my network is me, and i'm smarter than you.
oh and, the loss of "critical updates" is a complete non-issue. i disabled them in 2013 because all of the ones they posted were non-threats to me because they require the user to run untrusted code or have an exposed network, neither of which apply to me. since then i've only taken standalone downloads for things that were functionally necessary like SHA-2 signing. i'm guessing you don't even read what's in an update before clicking OK, which makes you one of the dummies that better IT people have to cover for.

you are a fucking idiot. The most popular platform is always the target for the majority of hackers. What's more: windows 10 and 11 are riddled with black box telemetry of which no one is entirely sure what it is sending to Microsoft or exactly what is being recorded. Just that disabling it utterly breaks the operating system.

why do people act like if you use old software you're gonna get instantly vaporized by hackerman? It's ludicrous. Win7 will be more secure than 10/11 because no one is gonna be targeting a "dead" os.
you have zero days out the ass on win10 and win11 you dumb gay. win11 even comes bundled with glowmoron kernel rootkits and forces you to use TPM. You can use any 20 years old OS safely as long as you either have an up to date web browser or use a web browser not targeted by malware like k-meleon. Also if you dont run your own firewall like simplewall you dont even deserve to use a computer.
Why can't there just be an updated windows 7? Windows 10/11 is just so shitty as a desktop OS and Linux is like learning a new language with its own retarded quirks. If I have to open command line to do basic shit you've failed as a GUI and as an OS.

>when your porting job is shit and linux users are the majority of bug report writers because they actually understand how computers work
Wow. Got any more cherrypicks from your folder Anon?
The part that makes the article good is that it goes on to say that the linux users did hundreds of thousands of dollars of QA for free because they knew how to use computers.
Only like 4 of the hundred-odd bugs were linux specific, iirc.
That's more to do with the fact that windows hides as much logging and debug info from the user as possible. If a game crashes on windows, the best you'll get is a crash dump from the game's logger, if there is one. A linux user can add syslogs, mesa logs, dxvk logs and wine debug info.
Something just feels so incredibly wrong with the fact technology is only getting WORSE, you know?
Websites from the 90's and 2000's that are still up and running load at the speed of light on modern hardware. I always imagined the possibilities of website with dozens of links and images being able to pop up without a hitch on modern computers that have gotten so advanced. Instead if I want to read a basic fucking article it takes ages to load and I see pop-ups and embeds everywhere like it's a shitty piracy site. Basic shitty pixel indie games need insane hardware requirements when shitty budget laptops from the early 2010's can emulate gamecube games.
What the fuck happened? One of the reasons I like Ganker is it's the only active forum I know of that doesn't take ages to load even a ten post thread. Ganker only slow downs when I'm trying to load up several webms at once or have 10+ threads open at once. If god forbid I have to check reddit or twitter for something that isn't on here just a single thread makes my computer fans throttle. and Ublock origin warns me of 300+ things trying to rape my hard drive.
I want to go back
libraries. Modern webdevs dont code websites. they write on an abstract layer of huge libraries.
A lot of the modern "guides" also encourage loading huge libraries for minor shit, arguably cause these codemonkeys never learn how to do it in basic js.
Yeah, basically. SICP course was stopped long time ago, because industry demanded coders, that can operate with libraries and frameworks, not programmers, who combine knowledge of math and computer science. Maybe in perfect world we could write and make everything work with few lines in Lisp, but this is not perfect world...
>libraries. Modern webdevs dont code websites. they write on an abstract layer of huge libraries.
This. Here something to laugh at, I can literally play an emulated PSX game in the browser and still get better performance and no crash vs an Uber Eats Hypermaket page that will completely froze the browser.

You have to go AMD and last gen nvidia or amd GPUs for an up-to-date windows 7 hardware build. p/e cores are a cancer on Intel and only work best on windows 11.
Every control panel ever put into Windows since 95 is still in windows. And clicking a prompt in one control panel will randomly bring up a prompt in another. Some of them literally have no reason for doing it that way because some of the functions you get for clicking these menus are done already by the same control panels. Clicking network info in the Settings page brings up control panel despite there being a network info page in settings that no one uses
It's like the end result of a UX team balkanizing and having a civil war.
they are slowly replacing control panel with settings, there isn't that much stuff left in control panel that doesn't link to settings
it's ugly but better than removing legacy stuff
they still kept useful shit like win7 backup and recovery
win10 was kinda embarrassing in UI department and while people like to shit on win11 it looks much better and isn't as much of a shitshow as win10
>they are slowly replacing control panel with settings, there isn't that much stuff left in control panel that doesn't link to settings
You still can't do anything remotely power-user related without going into control panel or opening up Powershell (which is more work than using control panel). Which is the real crime of the matter: they genuinely just want to be Macs. complete with their "primary" user interaction with their computer being the most basic bitch settings imaginable while everything else is kept in the big-boy land.
Someone said it but Windows is an operating system now developed by people who hate Windows but love their Macs.

>Target audience is extremely tech illiterate and can't be trusted with anything.
The target audience used to be tech literate because they were given the tools to be power users with their PCs and were encouraged to do so.
True, this is in part because operating systems of the past were far, far more unstable. and thus required users to be power users in order to use them.
But them becoming more stable, more user friendly didn't create a better operating system with happier users. It just made them indolent. A user should have the power to fuck up their own computer.

I guess that's why they decided to abandon C++ and shift everything to Rust, at least it's memory safe, as they claim.
https://www.theregister.com/2023/04/27/microsoft_windows_rust/
that's true, Rust cleans all unused variables during runtime, which prevents memleaks, not having Null type also helps. But that comes with half of GB of devtools and bloated binaries, also no heckin' sassy values!! Rip 0xCAFEBABE from Java
Planned Obsolescence. Microsoft is purposely making worse OS since W7. Win8 and 10 are both shit. Win11 is passable but still shit. Soon tech companies will stop making desktop and laptop computers. Everyone will be forced to use tablets and smartphones that doesn't have storage. Everything will be stored in the cloud and tech companies have the right to look into your files and delete them. The future fucking sucks.
Remember this prompt?
That shit let you properly organize instead of dumping everything in one place and praying that the search engine gets you what you think you wanted.

And it was the right decision for Microsoft. The Fisher-Price aesthetic made it look less intimidating to the average tech-illiterate retard which is why it was such a popular Windows version. A lot of people refused to upgrade from it to 7 until they absolutely had to. Steam even worked on XP until 2019
99% of the Windows userbase has no idea what the 9x kernel or NT kernel are. Microsoft never advertised XP by telling the average person that it uses the NT kernel
this whole line of reasoning seems silly. every verson of windows was "make it usable for normies", just in varying degrees of success. it sucks, but mass appeal is profitable and generally is just what every business does.

No, only 4% of games "work" as they do on windows, the rest are much better.
windows 7 or the trash that is windows 10?
Which one you comparing to?
They have different issues.
7 is mostly fine for old games, but doesn't have dx12 support unless you use vkd3d port from linux and some modern games (especially VN remakes).
10/11 is obviously good for modern games, but getting older stuff to run is a royal pain in the but or straight up impossible.
linux's weakness is some multiplayer games that refuse to work, but at least it runs both ancient and new single-player games just fine
>but doesn't have dx12 support
Yes it does.
>doesn't have dx12 support
I see this as a win. Dx12 games seem to be really fucked up from what I see, especially loader cache issues because of incompetent devs.
can't think of any dx12 games worth playing, let alone games that use dx12 exclusively
>7 is mostly fine for old games, but doesn't have dx12 support
It absolutely does, I played through RDR2 on DX12 with Windows 7, bunch of other games as well.
But it's pure Microsoft garden gnomery, if you want DX12 on Windows 7 you literally have to bribe Microsoft to allow you to do it.

I'm using Windows 10 LTSC right now and have NEVER had any issues. What are you talking about?
>windows store games
Name ONE good game from the store. Also, you can enable the store with some PowerShell commands.

I do because of USB drivers.
There are gays with desktop PCs claiming disc drives are obsolete. Let them stay retarded, my M-Discs work just fine.

>what would be the most complicated thing for a new mint user to do

>certain tools only work on distro X while others only work on distro Y
>'name one thing you need to use the terminal for'
>Names something you don't need terminal for
>'name one tool'
>Can't even name one, but I SWEAR THERES PLENTY, GUYS!!!!
software won't just werk
>durr why doesn't my operating system run programs for other operating systems??
So you want me to give up all the software I use on a daily basis and replace it with some inferior freeware garbage (eg. Photoshop vs GIMP) instead?
Once again, no thanks.
yes? even if you want to argue that your crappy commercial software is better it doesn't matter. people that are more skilled then you use free software and get along just fine
>people that are more skilled then you use free software and get along just fine
get a job.
at my job we use free software. linux devs make 2x what windows devs make btw
You're lying to yourself if you believe anyone is using that piece of shit GIMP for any serious project.
Terminal is not the reason why I'm not using chudix.
>no HDR
>Gayland has high latency

>multiple games require troubleshooting
>troubleshooting in general is more complicated while on windows it's just googling the issue and having the answer in 5 minutes
>it takes a few months before latest hardware is supported, on Windows it's day one
What tools did you use to debloat W11?
powershell
I did everything manually
you can look up mydigitallife for guides or chris titus tech if you want a simple "tool" that does it for you (it's just a bunch of scripts with a gui on top)
don't trust third party tools or custom isos, only ever get isos and exexutables from MS directly
>Gayland has high latency
not with low latency modes in every modern compositor
>X has tearing
you're choosing to have tearing by not using tearfree
>games run worse than windows on nvidia
on wayland, because of nvidia
>troubleshooting in general is more complicated while on windows it's just googling the issue and having the answer in 5 minutes
protondb.com
>it takes a few months before latest hardware is supported, on Windows it's day one
no, amd and intel have been merging hardware support into mesa and the kernel weeks to months ahead of time for years
>here's your low latency mode bro
>gnome
waytards have a cope for everything. it's never wayland's fault, is it? it's all the other software. it's application developers. it's game developers. it's your hardware. your computer's too slow.
wayland adds latency because it is a compositing protocol. compositing will always be less responsive than single-buffered drawing. you can't change this.
I don't even use wayland. Gnome is just shit on both X and wayland. KDE has proper low latency wayland support and of course a compositor for X11.
>wayland adds latency because it is a compositing protocol
Yes and an X11 compositor or tearfree do the same thing. You choose between latency and tearing on everything, whether's it's wdl or kde/gnome/DE/WM of choice.
kde is laggy shit as well
responsiveness uber alles
Maybe if you're got a chinkpad. KDE runs fine for me. Low latency mode when I tried out plasma wayland was fine too, apart from wayland's forced vsync.
>it's your hardware. your computer's too slow.
how did you distinguish between kde's latency and wayland's vsync latency? yeah
Because KDE latency is hardware bound and wayland latency is baked into the protocol?
>poor performance is hardware bound
alright but that doesn't mean poor performance is not poor
When the CLI starts having separate help pages for parameters, you've overdeveloped.
the only thing i ever use linux for is data recovery if one of my drives shits itself and kills the system

Nah, i'd rather actually use my PC, not spend hours troubleshooting trivial shit.

Yes, those words are synonymous.

You're posting on Ganker, your time does have no value.
We have to gatekeep linux or normies will ruin it.
normalfags won't touch something that requires effort to use so we're good on that front
its already subverted by m$ & co putting money into it to take influence. Red hat has also fed ties and is responsible for systemDicked
>just abandon all your software and use shitty alternatives, bro
Fuck off.
Linux has been compromised
Where is that in the source code?
how good is steam compatibility these days? gog? does discord work on it well?
Every game I own before switching to Linux works perfectly. And if the game doesn't work, a simple command can be copy+pasted into the launch options to make it work. Remember to always look at the protondb page before checking the game out.
Even mods work fine too.
(me)
Oh, and Discord does work. It works perfectly too.
>Very few Steam games from my library
List 10 games that don't work.
idk anon, I'm too lazy to go check my laptop, but over half of my library says it's "not compatible with Linux".
Thank god I'm not a fan of Discord, but the few times I've HAD to use it on my Ubuntu laptop, I just use the web version.
>i've only installed it, troubleshooted it extensively, and used the web version
>but i'm not a fan
When you are a Linux user, you get accustomed to troubleshooting EVERY single thing you install, lmao.
But when it comes to Discord, I didn't really troubleshoot it much, I just Googled shit like "why Discord screen black Ubuntu" and then you get a ton of nerds in forums saying
>"ummm see, its actually your fault because you forgot to install x and modify y text file and then run z"
At that point I said fuck it and just loaded the web version.
I remember being born a third world shitskin until one day I decided to install gentoo, I could feel my height growing to 6 feet and above, the melanin draining from my body, no longer feeling the impulse to engage in criminal activity, I couldn't believe it but I had become white.

it's called designed obsolescence
why were you guys still using windows 7 in 2023?
too contrarian to use win10 but too retarded to use linux
a deadly combination
I'm too retarded but I switched to Linux anyway and learned through brutal trial and error https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXeDRbJP_QE&ab_channel=luke22x17
if youre really asking that you probably wont listen to the answer.also it literally runs less games than 7 due to direct x
You can easily defang all of that shit with programs specifically designed to disable most of the addon crap by MS.
And every time a massive feature update comes along it breaks all your debloat and you have to do it again, or the debloat causes issues with the feature update i.e. giving you a looping restart.
>it breaks all your debloat
I never had that issue. At most the only thing that occurs with ShutUp10++ is I have to reclick a tab if a major update comes along.
why should I have to disable it?
fags always say this but they never explain how they cope with the fact that they're now so far in pavlov's torture chamber that they rationalize their ad-filled imprisonment as voluntary because they can just remove it.
i never understood this argument. i have win10 and disabled all the gay store features and ads within Windows settings. pic rel my start bar
it's shit
ive been using windows since win95 and the start i posted is fine. the icons are a bit too big but whatever i can at least press the win key and start typing the program name i desire and it pops up
it's shit
what is shit about it? its not the best but it isnt shit
Try scrolling through that single massive menu. It's garbage.
Doesn't make it less garbage than a sorted tree structure.
how? even if you only own a phone that still has a file structure with data explorer
I've seen normalfags using their phones searching for stuff and they just use their thumbs to scroll forever looking at date-arranged thumbnails. None of them use anything more than that.
Why does your start bar have aids?
>all that wasted fucking space
this is my biggest complaint about it. the icons are too big and the space in-between options is too wide
i prefer a clean taskbar so i usually winkey and search applications if i ever need to use them, which i rarely do since this is just a gayming pc.
I don't even recall when I used the start button to search for stuff. If I have a specific program, i just use the search tab.
Why?
Jesus Christ. Stick all of that in a single Adobe folder like a sane person and then go clean your fucking room.
I figured you're go off topic since you don't have an argument regarding the start menu. Typical. Again, I don't use the start menu in the first place.
>I don't use the start menu in the first place.
And why is that? Because it has become less useful for discovery than fucking Ask Jeeves.
If there was an AI I wanted, it would be Jeeves. Give me a digital butler, not a cortana slut.
Because its my personal taste and that personal taste due to how convenient it is. If I want to use one of those pirated Adobe programs, I just search for it, right click the specific file I want edited it be a photo, video, or music and boot it up from there, or click a shortcut within a desktop folder. Why does this bother you so much how people personally use their computers?
It becomes a problem the moment you're looking for something that you don't know the name of.
I need adobe illustrator im jealous
oi theres a open beta version of curseforge that doesnt need overwolf
If your only issue is UI, then just use classic shell.
There was no reason to switch until I was forced.
Were?
nice
win7 until i breathe my dying breath
all my games were windows 7 compatible at mos
if i updated to 10, half of them would break
W10 sucks in general.
>No store support
Store works you retard, you can install it.
AND there isnt a single good game in the store anyway.
Because my computer is still alive and I was never given a good reason to "upgrade".
No spying.
No ads.
Smaller install size.
Better performance.
Better security.
Good software and hardware support.
Full control over updates.
It makes Pajeets mad.
I had to install W10 IoT LTSC last month because MS no longer allows installing Minecraft on W7.
>MS no longer allows installing Minecraft on W7.
Is this really true?
No and yes.
Minecraft launcher won't work on 7 anymore, but who the fuck uses the default launcher anyway?
If you think any peace of hardware or software made after 9/11 isn't spying on you, you are delusional
>No spying
>Better security
Windows 10 is bugggy as FUCK
I NEVER had to restart explorer or get random ass black screens with windows 10
There hasn't been a single game i wanted to play that didn't work on 7.

w10 is the same shit
dont have enough money for a new build. Also this
if you can't figure out how to debloat then you deserve to lose your steam games
>if you don't bend over and take it up the ass (but with lube and condom on) you deserve to lose your steam games

Say the sub-0 IQ retarded moron.
you can't even figure out how to use windows lol
>iq sub zero
>loops back around to 255
checkmate wintard
not what I was talking about but o.k
Because windows 8 was shit and windows 10 was shit.
How is this some fucking huge mystery to you.
I'm on 8.1 but I'll install 7 whenever I get another PC
Windows 7, aside from the part that it can't play modern games, is a fantastic OS. way better than 10 and 11 in every way and still miles above the best Linux distro.
It is the only operating system that looks good
You never update software unless something is broken and needs to be fixed.
you can't be serious

ITT: undiagnosed ADHD, autism and OCD
That's every thread on every board though
Windows 10 is losing support in like 1 more year. Everyone will be forced to Windows 11, which BTW even after these many years is still buggy.
It's free, you can't complain about bugs would you honestly rather pay for it?
Wrong, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC IoT 2021 is supported until 2032: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-iot-enterprise-ltsc-2021
You really think Microsoft will let you decline upgrading to Windows 11 until 2032?
Yes, retard. What do you think disabling Windows updates does?
>randomly uses one of its several hardcoded backdoors/workarounds to unblock its servers, force reenable Update and everything else you used a debloater to turn off and fuck your shit up while you're away from the keyboard
Has happened to me twice, computer works fine on the version I'm comfortable with and then suddenly I come back from grocery shopping and it's been updated and rebooted losing whatever I was doing in the process
You clearly did something wrong then, I haven't updated mine for several years.
It's just for the developers to continue to support it and nothing changes.
Still on Win7. No game is worth upgrading for. Not my problem.
Did XP users go full retard like this when XP support got dropped?
there are still many valuable companies who have programs integral to xp, XP was a good os it just wasnt prepared for the internet and lacked sufficient protection against it out of the box
They moved to 7 because it solved the issues that Vista had, rather than doubling down on them and trying to eliminate the concept of power users.
No, it's almost as if 7 was an objective improvement.
Zoomers are too young to remember when updates actually improved anything for anyone other than Microsoft
XP users didn't care. Windows update was the first thing you disabled on the quest for a faster pc.
XP support was dropped in 2019 so they had time. Remember, Vista wasn't well received but 7 was good, and the last good Windows too.
yes but it wasn't as bad because 7 was actually good
i didn't like 7 at the time and i still don't like 7, but i'd love to have been able to stay on it. that just goes to show how much i hate 8 - 11.
Does anyone have the webm of Linus accidentally uninstalling GDM after typing "yes do as I say!"?
>install loonix
>everything I give a shit about works
>don't have to wrestle with OS just to make it stop spying with me
Never switching to Windows 10+, shill pajeets.
i use kali linux to have an OS that spies with me
if win10/11 had the same frequent programs in their start menus similar to 7; instead of this manual pinning and bing search bullshit, i would like both of them much more.
if you just expand the start menu to show as many recent programs as possible, literally everything you use will show up in that list.
you can customise it yourself lol. at least you can in win10, and i dont even mean with 3rd party programs or custom scripts just using windows gui
It did, but the Microsoft ninjas would probably kill anyone who tried doing anything with it publicly.
The latter group doesn't give a shit about the quality of the product because they know that the average NPC will gobble it down
Just use classic shell windows settings aren't great but there totable and if you really want to just use the control panel
It's time
>Just use [hack] that will not work after update and ignore the 99+ other problems with modern Windows
>noooooo you have waste resources maintaining obsolete tech
they choose to excitingly not work on the os instead of just ceasing support, big difference. none of us are asking for continued support
Maintain it by layering more interfaces over it?
That's been Microsoft's MO since the start. IIRC there's still ancient DOS code inside W11 because they just layer everything on top of their old code and frankenstein it into a new OS so they can have an easier time of keeping it backwards compatible.
>shitskins get visibly shaken when you refuse to leave win7
Why tho
Because compared to the 1st world countries that always seem to have the latest tech effortlessly, and then choosing NOT to makes no sense to them. They strive to get the latest, cleanest thing and when an American/English/etc chooses not to upgrade they cannot comprehend why they would voluntarily turn their back on that privilege.
>FOURTEEN YEAR OLD OPERATING SYSTEM
Got construction tools from soviet union that are better than the modern shit i can buy. Neighbor died and i got to inherit them cause nerd son wont touch manual labor, got lucky and could take it all while helping them move things. Abused chisel and other tools without seeing any wear.
CVE's still get found, zerodays always exist, and software makers shouldn't have to support extremely outdated operating systems.
>and software makers shouldn't have to support extremely outdated operating systems
Yes they should, or I'm not going to use their software or services anymore. Simple az
>huuurfduuuurf i'm retarded
>and software makers shouldn't have to support extremely outdated operating systems.
laughs in COBOL and the entire economic sector of humanity
win10 has more unresolved CVEs than win7
win10 has had more total CVEs than win7, in fewer years of life
Windows 10 is literally and objectively less secure than Windows 7.
an operating system is a tool. it should provide useful functionality and otherwise stay the fuck out of the way when i'm using whatever program i want. i was happy using an existing tool, but that was taken away. now i can't find an alternative tool that is comfortable and doesn't have loads of retarded indian design decisions. and apparently i deserve to be raged at for wanting to keep using the old tool.
well anon it's real simple, you are not a trog like everyone else.
That other guy is a retard. Web browsing on 7 since 2015, no viruses, no hacks. Still waiting for le hackerman to get into my computer without using social engineering tactics.
"if you connect to the internet with a windows 7 machine it will get immediately pwned by hackers" seems to be the latest FUD from updooters
They've been using this FUD since windows 10 was pushed hard. And their brains kind of turn off and can't compute when you show them windows 7 working on modern hardware like Ryzen.
it will quickly become that way. I doubt it is like that this second but a year or two from now it will 100% be. If security issues aren't patched ever again and there are major security issues found then your quote becomes true if it isn't already.
We do forced updates now because retards will get infected with shit that was patched years ago because they refuse to run a security update because "IT WORKS FINE"
win10 has more unresolved CVEs than win7
win10 has had more total CVEs than win7, in fewer years of life
each update introduces new CVEs
none of what you said rebuts what i said. If it's never being patched and a new major public vulnerability is released then that's it.
tis just the nature of things. If the bad guys think it's worth it they will do it.
If you are savvy enough to not be a retard that is great. If you use noscript you aren't the type of user that gets pwnt easily. As an IT fag for the last 20 years i can assure you that this isn't the case for most. Most people can't handle set it and forget it type addons and no script would break their tiny brains.
>If the bad guys think it's worth it they will do it.
kinda sounds like you're the bad guy here.
Ganker seems to be where you want to go. I don't have the will nor skill to break windows 7 for the world.
much like other pajeets who struggle with getting windows 10, let alone 11 working
if you're opinionated enough to use win7 then you aren't the sort of person who runs dodgy shit
weird how i connect XP machines to the internet all the time and never get LE HACKED, isn't it?
>As an IT fag for the last 20 years i can assure you that this isn't the case for most. Most people can't handle set it and forget it type addons and no script would break their tiny brains.
Then maybe we should go back to mainframes + locked down terminals for the NPC retards. We're already there with phones and tablets, keep this shit out of desktop PCs.
normies and smart phones really ruined a lot. We will never get it back. We are gonna get windows appliances soon too. We won't be able to disable UEFI.
>it will quickly become that way.
that sounds like a threat
>it will quickly become that way.
Noscript blocks 100% of java bullshit and good luck fingerprinting my system when I know where to spoof it. I don't daily drive into sites that require javascript aside from Ganker anyway.
>We do forced updates now because retards will get infected with shit that was patched years ago because they refuse to run a security update because "IT WORKS FINE"
I literally have the same Windows 7 install since 2015 on a dozen different machines after Windows 10 FORCE installed itself throughout my business and I had to unfuck my entire system costing me thousands.
Not one fucking problem in 8 years across a dozen machines running W7.
>Windows 10 FORCE installed itself throughout my business and I had to unfuck my entire system costing me thousands
quite amusing that the most virus-like problem you've had was windows itself
>quite amusing that the most virus-like problem you've had was windows itself
There's a reason as to why Microsoft had the shit sued out of them for how they rolled out Windows 10.
I will never use anything beyond Windows 7, 10 is aids and 11 is somehow even worse, if the time ever comes that I genuinely cannot keep using 7, which is unlikely, i'll move to a full Linux setup that doesn't do as it please and require the user to constantly guard against the OS itself bricking their systems.
>yea yea and the guy that made the software for your production line made it in 1979 and is now dead and upgrading past anything made in 1985 will shut the plant down costing x amount of jobs.
W10 has been in development for over a decade and it's still a trainwreck.
Anon, you have a bigger problem than windows 10. Why didn't you lock down windows 7 in your business to not interact with Microsoft updates directly and instead diverted it into a pooled and curated collection of offline installs as an admin?
Nothing is his fault man, he BUILT this business without the help of us stupid NERDS. You see it was windows that FORCED the update and costed him THOUSANDS! He was just powerless ya know?
Why is it always the shitty touchscreen clock app!?
lol i told you i did IT for 20 fucking years in various positions. I don't allow "smart" devices in my house. I get mad when i look for tv's because i want it to do it's one fucking job: display things. I don't want a fucking OS on my display. My only connections to my modem are physical, wifi disabled, WPS disabled first moment i get the device. I keep a loaded 45 so i can shoot my printer if it does anything funny.
and here you are raging at people who don't use a hyper-chatty updooter OS
raging? Ok buddy. I'm not raging at anyone. I guess i can call you a luddite or something if it makes you feel better.
I'm aware of the flaws of windows 10 and was made aware for years every patch tuesday. I simply posted once a major unpatched exploit hits for windows 7 they will forever be vulnerable and people like you are still mad at this obvious truth. You seem like you are projecting your own rage onto me.
Every patch tuesday introduced CVEs. How does that make you feel?
makes me feel like everything is the same as it ever was. Unsure what you are going for. Windows is trash and only useful for video games.
You want me to update, though.
i don't give a shit what you do. I simply stated that once a major exploit for windows 7 gets released it will forever be vulnerable to said exploit. What is it about this obvious truth that bothers you?
>i don't give a shit what you do. I simply stated that once a major exploit for windows 7 gets released it will forever be vulnerable to said exploit.
Meanwhile every plane on the planet is being kept in the air by Windows XP or older and every government on the planet forbids the use of anything post Windows 7 because of how compromised Windows 10+ is.
Fuck off rajeesh.
hmmm you guys REALLY don't want people to patch these exploits it seems.
Windows 7 is literally more secure than Windows 10.
doubt it but maybe true so i won't argue it. Still doesn't change the fact that it will never be patched and once it's insecure it will forever be insecure. People are getting really mad at this obvious truth. Why?
Unpatched OS is going to remain unpatched and people are getting mad at me for saying it.
>the use of anything post Windows 7 because of how compromised Windows 10+ is.
That's not true whatsoever. I work at NIST and we upgraded to Win 10 6 years ago. Usually takes a few years to adopt a new operating system primarily because of safety concerns. Same occurred when the computers upgraded from XP to 7. That didn't occur until around 2012.
>That's not true whatsoever.
It is outside of the US.
It's telling that you didn't get a reply.
>lol i told you i did IT for 20 fucking years
>. I don't allow "smart" devices in my house.
>But I download every new windows version
you are a fucking idiot. The most popular platform is always the target for the majority of hackers. What's more: windows 10 and 11 are riddled with black box telemetry of which no one is entirely sure what it is sending to Microsoft or exactly what is being recorded. Just that disabling it utterly breaks the operating system.
lol no it fucking doesn't
enterprise version allows you to explicitly disable all telemetry and diagnostic data permanently
if you believe fagman is spying on you illegally you're a schizo
legally? sure, absolutely
they would never open themselves up to litigation like this
>lol no it fucking doesn't
as I said, you're a fucking idiot. No need to prove it to us.
https://www.itprotoday.com/windows-10/windows-10-telemetry-tool-shows-users-data-sent-microsoft
Here you go, this doesn't turn off even with enterprise's telemetry restrictions.
>legally? sure, absolutely
You fucking slimy moron lol
you realize you're lying through your teeth so you try to pivot to LEGALITY because richest IT company on earth can buy all the law it wants.
that ToS you didn't sign with your computer also says they can come over and rape your mother twice a week.
all perfectly legal btw
idk why they need a ToS though when most get that for free.
ok then go install whonix if you're so worried about someone snooping around
I checked packets with wireshark and didn't see shit, the group policy does exactly what it says
but I guess you'll just go full schizo and claim MS injects some pajeetware into it to hide conenctions or hides sensitive info into magic packets
I bet you're using chudfox and don't even realise that shit phones home no matter what meme user.js you use or believe onion is not a honey pot
> or believe onion is not a honey pot
nta, how would that actually work? even if they owned all the entry and exit nodes, they don't know which traffic is yours.
sirs you don't understand black block telemetry perfectly ok, it legal, it let me see bobs and vagine perfectly legal because box was clicked by someone somewhere, do not redeem
>they would never open themselves up to litigation like this
You are born yesterday, isn't it ?
>Anon, you have a bigger problem than windows 10.
No I don't, I fired my admin, sued Microsoft, enjoyed smooth sailing ever since by actively avoiding the malware that is Windows 10.
yea yea and the guy that made the software for your production line made it in 1979 and is now dead and upgrading past anything made in 1985 will shut the plant down costing x amount of jobs.
The amount of messes i've had to clean up from people like you has netted me a lot of money.
>The amount of messes i've had to clean up from people like you has netted me a lot of money.
hypocritical coming from an updooter
the best security tool you can have is an ad blocker
same here but 2018.
no updates, sp1. ublock is your friend
I bet that dog is happy, dogs love trash and shit
>CVE's still get found, zerodays always exist
why do people act like if you use old software you're gonna get instantly vaporized by hackerman? It's ludicrous. Win7 will be more secure than 10/11 because no one is gonna be targeting a "dead" os.
I sometimes wonder why certain fags care so much about why someone choosing not to update but then I remember this pic related.
>afraid to pirate
>don't know how to torrent
>don't know shit about file systems
>don't know shit about computers in general.
So it makes sense zoomers are scared of the internet and computers. Corps make them feel safe and whatever corps say, they do.
you have zero days out the ass on win10 and win11 you dumb gay. win11 even comes bundled with glowmoron kernel rootkits and forces you to use TPM. You can use any 20 years old OS safely as long as you either have an up to date web browser or use a web browser not targeted by malware like k-meleon. Also if you dont run your own firewall like simplewall you dont even deserve to use a computer.
Soviet Union made quality tools. But back then America made quality tools too.
>Soviet Union made quality tools.
oh_wait_youre_serious_let_me_laugh_harder.gif
you gain nothing from making this thread every day
move on
if windows 7 was so great why didn't they make a windows 7 2?
Windows 7 (and to some extent Windows 10 after debloating) is the white man's OS.
Windows 11 is pajeetware.
had some fun
Thanks everyone
>_
Now that I've given every Windows user a heartattack, what are you playing?
i dont get it
Curious, I haven't experienced a heart attack yet...
Are you lost little one?
Why can't there just be an updated windows 7? Windows 10/11 is just so shitty as a desktop OS and Linux is like learning a new language with its own retarded quirks. If I have to open command line to do basic shit you've failed as a GUI and as an OS.
XP is better but Vista/7 is needed for 64bit (more ram recogniton).
never understood the issue with w11
>install it despite everyone saying it's the worst thing that couls happen to windows
>literally zero issues after a year, even less annoying than w10
Based, I get so tired of haring people shit talk Windows because they think it'll help them fit in by hating the worlds most popular and functional OS
>globohomo design, looks like a macos clone
>rounded corners everywhere
>huge padding on everything, less information density
>requires multiple clicks in the file explorer to get to the normal right-click menu
>obnoxiously large start menu
>centered taskbar messing with your muscle memory since it expands when you open new windows
>feels like it's designed for toddlers
>even more telemetry
>tpm 2.0, microsoft account requirement (these can be bypassed, but still)
>literally just a reskin of win10, no new kernel
>etc.
oh, i forgot:
>ads in explorer
>looks like a mobile os
>frosted glass transparency
>oversaturated gradients everywhere
I HATE this design trend where everything has to look "safe" and "non-offensive", it's like a padded cell for mentally ill retards who keep hurting themselves by walking into walls.
so you're coping with linux instead of windows because you don't like the aesthetic?
i hate every major windows update that changes the gui because they have some fucking retarded diversity hires who have to justify their job by moving around settings so you can never fucking find them
>when your porting job is shit and linux users are the majority of bug report writers because they actually understand how computers work
Wow. Got any more cherrypicks from your folder Anon?
Yeah I'm about to cherrypick that a majority of the issues found affected all releases. Get the port job out of your ass, gay.
The part that makes the article good is that it goes on to say that the linux users did hundreds of thousands of dollars of QA for free because they knew how to use computers.
Only like 4 of the hundred-odd bugs were linux specific, iirc.
>windows users are used to their system shitting itself, also tech illiterate
>linux users are so nice they help devs debug their game
Linux scum are where viruses come from. Linux is directly responsible for windows bloat.
>cut it to push his agenda
pathetic
>that was just free QA!
Warms my heart.
>pay to do the dev's job
warm fuzzies.
When the dev acknowledged the Linux community reporting bugs I knew I was part of that group. Feels good man.
That's more to do with the fact that windows hides as much logging and debug info from the user as possible. If a game crashes on windows, the best you'll get is a crash dump from the game's logger, if there is one. A linux user can add syslogs, mesa logs, dxvk logs and wine debug info.
BAZED devs
Everything after 7 is pajeetware.
When you see this kind of shit, you realize how bad those multi billions dollar companies are utter dog shit that promoting such bad dev behavior.
apparently you're a luddite if you complain about this
When will the "complexity=good" meme die
Shut the fuck up.
>only play offline games
oh no I have to leave this machine unplugged from the internet, the agony
>unplugged
firewalled
>computer running on win7
>works fine on steam, can download and buy shit like normal
>steam announces it will stop running on windows 7
>try to buy and download a game on steam after this announcement
>can't, "connection error"
what the fuck is going on i've troubleshooted everything
i do not know but hopefully bumping will bring someone that does know
I don't understand why Steam is dropping support for Windows 7, but can still support old Mac OS's, linux etc
Here's a spoonful:
Chrome is dropping Win 7. Steam uses Chrome.
So the steam browser simply won't work?
the whole client runs of chromium. as does discord. and a lot of other shit too.
webshit was a massive misake
>the whole client runs of chromium
Nah it runs off electron.
Literally no reason for steam to drop support for W7.
>Nah it runs off electron.
which runs chromium
it's abstraction frameworks all the way down
Well fuck.
It won't stop until the entire world is Microsoft Google
electron is chromium
You are literally lying.
I have Windows 7 and I bought Starship Troopers: Extermination on Steam some days ago and it work (well minus some crash there and there)
Windows XP those were the good days. Its like they made an effort to make every iteration of windows worse after that point.
10 is literally just 7 with a bad ui and ads
windows 7 is a meme made by winxp boomers after they had to move on because their OS was so fucking outdated. Watch, when Windows 15 comes out we will have gays begging Steam to still support windows 11.
>Watch, when Windows 15 comes out we will have gays begging Steam to still support windows 11.
"Watch, when the garden gnomes try to force everyone to use (the latest, even worse operating system), we will have gays begging Steam to support (the oldest, least shitty currently available operating system).
Yes? As long as every new update gets worse than the last why wouldn't people keep wanting to not switch for as long as possible?
>the oldest, least shitty currently available operating system
But enough about Linux.
quads of truth
witnessed
>it's heckin worse!
we get it, gramps. old good, new bad. now, eat your pudding.
>new good, old bad!!!11!1!!11111!!!11!!1
see:
I'm still on windows 10 btw, my PC failed the minimum requirements for Windows 11.
no criticism, you just say "new bad old good"
TIME TO UPGRADE, YOU FUCKING LUDDITE PIECE OF SHIT
I don't need an argument for something that's so obvious.
>don't you DARE criticize one of the biggest corporations on earth
Windows literally never improved after 7.
8 wasn't better, 8.1 wasn't better(arguable for low spec devices, but still), 10 wasn't better, 11 lol
Ok but, which win7 version is the "good one"?
Ultimate if you don't give a fuck about updates, otherwise Embedded
electron should be banned
>Windows 10 is bad evil spyware stealing ur dataz!
>you should use windows 7 which is owned and operated by the same company as windows 10, it is totally not spying on you at all
lol
lmao even
enjoy your hacks and viruses
>enjoy your hacks and viruses
More hacks and viruses on W10 in the last year than in a decade of W7.
Enjoy your pajeetware that randomly deletes files after forced updates.
You think people haven't checked already?
Win7 with shit turned off and no post-10 updates doesn't send anything
win10 has more unresolved CVEs than win7
win10 has had more total CVEs than win7, in fewer years of life
a retard wrote this, this logic is incredibly flawed.
Why, if you can't appreciate this Premium OS, then you must be a no-good luddite. Enjoy getting hacked!
Is that thing in the middle the start menu? Why is the background bleeding into it?
Because they don't know what they're doing over at Microsoft.
Look at screencaps of Garuda OS if you want an example of what pajeets want as ideal aesthetics. It's really ugly and garish.
Not even a custom rice is going to fix all those inconsistencies.
>taskbar permanently combined
naw
>makes chudux obsolete
>pedo symbol
NOPE
>when your entire GUI is some form of mega bloaty webshit
INDIA SUPERPOWER 2023
fucking nightmare, so glad I didn't listen to the tech support pajeet badgering me to update to the newest OS
I miss XP menus.
AAAAAHHHH BRING IT BACK GIVE IT BACK UPDOOTMAN
Meanwhile I'm over here on linux learning how KDE handles its context menus. Seems like you can customize it to have the same functionality as your pic, but it has the usual learning curve that comes with linux.
>AAAAAHHHH BRING IT BACK GIVE IT BACK UPDOOTMAN
It never left.
>openshell
I remember some microsoft dev wondering why their updates broke on some NPCs builds last year and they said it was some 3rd party program getting in the way.
You're on borrowed time.
It doesn't interfere with 10's start menu though. It's completely separate thing that works "above" it. You can still access the dogshit M$ start menu with shift + left click if you really want to.
>You're on borrowed time.
NTA, but I use ExplorerPatcher and Open Shell.
Shit works just fine.
>9x
No, never ever. Yeah, I have nostalgia, but the problem with the 9x series is that it was just an overlay GUI for DOS and was unstable as fuck most of the time.
svol
ENTER
At least use the font as well.
I can't wait for skeuomorphism to make a comeback
it's gonna be a shitty indian/soidev version, though
Be careful what you wish for. I've seen concept art designs that look like fucking measles with rounding and shadows overdone.
whoops
>linux is mentioned
>windows prosletyzers come out of the woodwork to defend microsoft and beg you to come back.
without fail
We know pajeetware sucks.
They know pajeetware sucks.
They know that we know that pajeetware sucks.
We know that they know that we know that pajeetware sucks.
And still they continue to try to nag us into installing pajeetware.
Glad I grew up a poorfag with only windows 7 OS, jfc
you have to be 18 to p-
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
>Go to Microsoft store
>Every single fucking app in the universe needs updating. only does it when you're in there
I wish the world had ended on Y2k. Just a comfy existence and then it stops and we miss this bullshit. Fuck everything.
It did end. You're in hell if you're still using modern Microsoft.
I want Chicago 95 (that linux retro windows skin) to make a 2000 version someday
as long as I'm standing, windows 7 is not over
unless I finally get some better parts for my pc that dont support 7
You have to go AMD and last gen nvidia or amd GPUs for an up-to-date windows 7 hardware build. p/e cores are a cancer on Intel and only work best on windows 11.
What the fuck
damn, that's crazy
will read later
I still don't know if this is fanfic or not, but the current states of Windows speaks for itself.
It's hard to say, some will go to great lengths to make shit up for something they despise.
Does Windows 10 still have multiple "control panels" with similar settings spread throughout multiple places for absolutely no fucking reason?
yes
Most of the actual fucking hyperlinks on the bottom of the settings pages still lead to the real Win32 controls.
Yes.
I'm forced to use Windows 10 at work and it's incredible how convoluted and bloated they've made even the most trivial of things.
I genuinely look forward to coming home to Windows 7 as there's never any updates or horseshit waiting for me. It literally just werks.
I honestly don't blame them for going full retardproof. The generation that grew up with computers was an anomaly, the coming generations are 80 year old grandma tier and need the retardproofing.
A user should have the power to fuck up their own computer.
do you not realise how confusing "modern" uis are for normalfags?
If you think normalfags knew how to navigate the control panel in windows xp/7, you are out of your gourd.
now it's even more confusing!
>it looks much better and isn't as much of a shitshow
lol
I like the part where this guy is freaking out about the system being inept and bloated but he casually mentions he has to copy-paste the code for a dropdown because he doesn't actually know how to write it
>no less than 2k lines per src file
I guess that's why they decided to abandon C++ and shift everything to Rust, at least it's memory safe, as they claim.
https://www.theregister.com/2023/04/27/microsoft_windows_rust/
shut the fuck up
>as they claim
lol
that's true, Rust cleans all unused variables during runtime, which prevents memleaks, not having Null type also helps.
I used to think Ganker was retarded and Ganker had some functioning brain cells, but this thread showed me that Ganker's even more retarded, thanks.
>item is too op
If by "op" you mean full of security holes and no longer compatible with multiple pieces of software which is the opposite of being op (how to detect a poser 101), then yes.
win10 has had more vulnerabilities than win7 has ever had, despite being younger
furthermore, win10 has more unpatched vulnerabilities than win7
223 days left of online gaming. Thanks for curing my addiction based Gabe.
Could somebody explain why all this garbage that's totally unrelated to vidya is shitting up this place and not Gankeray?
people are still associating windows with videogames out of the habit, give it a few years to die out
I unironically love trannies. Such an easy way to dump your cum into something.
Kys gay
No thanks, that's something trannies are good at.
Other than security issues, what are the advantages of Win10 and Win11 over Win7?
It was DX12. 11?
The new task manager is nice. Other than that, nothing really.
dx12
literally
I can't play Squad, the only game that I want to play, because Windows 7 does everything better than 10, except it doesn't do dx12
If there's a work around I'm not aware of it, I've tried everything and I don't want to update to 10
That's not Windows xp.
Use Windows 7 and a CRT monitor - Ganker Ganker
How can one website be simultaneously both mentally retarded and smart at the same time.
Don't let yourself to Linux, Windows users

no ads in my Windows. Thanks EU.
>same win7 install from 2010
>older than most of the people screeching about win10
>it just werks
It only takes like an hour to turn 10/11 into 7
It takes 0 time to do nothing and just keep my 7 in the first place.
Pajeets really do believe that.
I'm talking about de-pajeetifying it for people adamant about using them
you can't turn off the compositor, so no
>what can brown do for you?
You WILL upgrade to Windows 11
You WILL restart your PC
You WILL make a Microsoft account
You WILL give us your email address
You WILL give us your phone number for 2FA
You WILL install the telemetry
You WILL install the keylogger
You WILL do a Bing search every time you search your hard drive for those e-boi doujins
We WILL flag your Microsoft account and notify the NSA about it you SICK FUCK
You WILL download the updates

You WILL NOT ask for patch notes
We WILL rearrange your desktop

You can get around this, but it is disconcertingly obtuse.
>been using windows10 ltsc for a year
>the garden gnomes already pushing the cuck up my fuckin ass and rigging the system
Windows 2k was the peak of OS design.
2k was the last version of Windows designed for businessmen.
XP was designed for grandmas and little kids.
2000 was best. I miss being able to use a 2000 theme on Windows which 7 could do just fine.
>XP was designed for grandmas and little kids
And it was the right decision for Microsoft. The Fisher-Price aesthetic made it look less intimidating to the average tech-illiterate retard which is why it was such a popular Windows version. A lot of people refused to upgrade from it to 7 until they absolutely had to. Steam even worked on XP until 2019
I didn't upgrade from XP until 8.1. Vista and 7 felt too slow and bloated.
Embedded XP had Microsoft support until 2019
Same reason 7's getting support until 2024.
Shame 8.1 isn't getting the same. Server 2012 R2 has support from Microsoft until Oct 2026.
>which is why it was such a popular Windows version.
It was popular because it was the first major NT OS promoted to the common masses.
99% of the Windows userbase has no idea what the 9x kernel or NT kernel are. Microsoft never advertised XP by telling the average person that it uses the NT kernel
this whole line of reasoning seems silly. every verson of windows was "make it usable for normies", just in varying degrees of success. it sucks, but mass appeal is profitable and generally is just what every business does.
>every verson of windows was "make it usable for normies", just in varying degrees of success
Sure, but XP was the last big jump when it comes to normie friendliness
i dont really disagree? i just entered this conversation to point that out, so, uh. not sure where to go from here. uh status quo, fuck you your wrong

updating from a i5 to a i7
actually, if you just change the computer clock while offline, it works.
you can bypass security checks and whatnot
by changing the clock on a windows 7 machine
anyways, tell me more about how win 7 is vastly more secure then..a pile of dirt?
Patched out like half a dozen windows versions in the past. A hamster must have better pattern recognition than win7 screechers
Wait, people in first world countries pay for Windows???
Give me an example of using the terminal/powershell for anything. I've only ever used it for programs that simply don't have a GUI like yt-dlp and streamlink.
Yep, just hackerman larping.
never updating
never upgrading
never switching to chudix
My dudes windows 7 is old and slow now seriously Windows 11 is so much faster and smoother and has cool features and suggestions for checking out other cool software you might like too I literally regret using ancient old Windows for so long before upgrading my gaming laptop to a better one with Windows 11.
It's unironically literally night and day how much better Windows 11 is. You're seriously ngmi if you're still using Windows 10 and 7 is cringe so stop coping and upgrade already.
Windows 11 is K I N O and /ourguy/ now.
>faster and smoother
Yet file explorer and the system is much faster.
DPC latency is much lower.
>cool features
Like what? I don't need anything more than what's already on Windows 7.
>cool software
such as?
>just upgrade already

>windows 11 is K I N O
