They literally do not care about releasing polished games, and why would they? People have been buying Skyrim en masse for over 10 years and the most recent version still has the same bugs as the original release. They finally got held accountable for Fallout 76 and did the bare fricking minimum to make it 'playable'--now redditors and Gankerincels alike will tell you how it's all totally fixed and past transgressions are forgiven. It just does not matter to Bethesda fans, they're dug in; acknowledging they've been wrong this whole time would induce far too much psychic pain, it's not even in the realm of possibility to these people

Just straight up pointing at what made all Bethesda games since Oblivion suck wiener and acting like it's a good thing or remotely welcome.

Since their last game, Bethesda has been backed financially by a billion dollar company. Microsoft won't let their flagship game be as buggy as old games, that is why there has been delays. I'm expecting trash on pc but series x should be super polished

          >Arkane is also a beloved studio
...that hasn't made a beloved game in a decade. Seriously, Arkane Austin's last game Prey was a flop and Redfall was a Zenimax mandate to look more lucrative to potential buyers. Deathloop and Death of the Outsider were both mediocre. It's like asking MachineGames to suddenly make a 9/10 game just cause they got bought by Microsoft. Most studios are doing what they've always done, except for Bethesda with Starfield which is getting special treatment by Microsoft cause they want a flagship. Microsoft has never made an exclusive headset for a game before. That's how invested they are in this one game.

Bugs and even semi major glitches unironically don't matter and have never actually stopped me from enjoying a good game, a good game is good even if it's absolutely bug infested. • 11 months ago
        Anonymous

DD is polished in some areas, but woefully underdeveloped in others. The fact that some people tried to compare it to Skyrim is laughable considering that it’s not even trying to do the same thing as Skyrim.

          Anonymous

          >but woefully underdeveloped in others
Yes. The quests are mostly blatantly unfinished and the story makes no sense in a lot of places. That said, the actual game isn't janky. Objects and NPCs don't bug out, crawling on a dragon doesn't send you flying into space, pawns don't start T-posing mid combat, items don't disappear or duplicate in your inventory, etc.

            Anonymous

All true, but then again, DD is strictly about combat with none of the sandboxy stuff Bethesda games are known for.

Less mechanics means more time to polish said mechanics. What’s moronic about people who try to compare it to Bethesda games is that DD isn’t even trying to be a competitor or do the same kind of thing. You can’t play DD as a life sim, but you can play Skyrim as one.

              Anonymous

              >Less mechanics
The amount of mechanics that go into the combat of DD alone blow Bethesda mechanics out of the water. Bethesda games don't have any interesting or deep mechanics at all. They just have dumb NPCs that wander around and some flags for quests tied to them dying. Most of the time their dialogue doesn't even reflect events that have happened within the game.

                Anonymous

Combat mechanics are generally easier to implement than NPCs routes/schedules.

The point of Bethesda games isn’t having deep mechanics. It’s about having a bunch of mechanics all thrown into one game so you can choose how you play. A bit like Deus Ex.

just take our planet as an example, forest, mountains, swamps, deserts, ice regions, oceans, seas, beaches and everything you could ask for even without the human parts like ancient ruins, cities that reach the horizon and countries with different cultures/ looks
no game could create such a diverse and rich environment and yet they expect us to believe they have handcrafted shit in 1000 planets

So when players explore a planet, one will find that dead body and another will find a treasure chest or some shit

If I understood their direct correctly the planets themselves will be procedural generated but the events that happen on the planets will be handcrafted bases, ships, caves, missions, etc that are randomly inserted into the planets. So you'll get Mission 25a on planet 632 because you went there but your friend will get it on planet 311 because they happened to randomly get it on that world.

It's not even close to true. Majority of people who played Skyrim never touched a single mod. Bethesda claimed that 8% of players ever installed a mod back in 2014 but I think it's more like 15-20%. People like the games for the game itself, being able to crack it open and add onto it is a bonus that a portion of people go for.

my problem is that Bethesda is just lazy. they are making the game on top of an architecture that's two decades old. that company made like billions of dollars from FO4 and Skyrim and they still refuse to fund the development of a new engine. They even tried making an Online Fallout game on it. That sure turned out well. I'm sure the explanation behind the shitty face animations, the dead soulless eyes, and other stuff like 30 fps is due to "engine limitations" but dude, who's to blame for that? no one's asking them to face-cap every single line of dialogue, but in modern engine there already exist tools that takes care of facial animation through AI.

Jank is associated with small indie studios who try their best to realize the dream game they have envisioned. Due to the lack of people, money, time and sometimes even relevant skills, the game tends to be rife with bugs, glitches and awkwardness when it comes to animations. Despite all of that, you can see that it was a project of love from the developers, they tried their hardest to make it.

The issue with QA for all those years was Zenimax's choice in budgeting and how they would manage the QA they had. They were notoriously cheap and would rush games out the door resulting in cut content and a heap of unfixed issues. But don't take my word for it, read up on the details to get a better picture.

The Slavic company also isn’t making a game that’s anywhere near the scope of the average Bethesda game. The best they can do is a sandbox on a much smaller scale.

Most Bethesda glitches are either physics or animations messing up which aren’t game breaking. Quests not working are less common but still there. Thing about Bethesda games is that it takes 1 minute to fix it via a console command. Last is crashes which haven’t been a issue for Fallout 4 *if* you’re playing vanilla. Downloading a bunch of shitty unoptimized mods will cause amount of game crashes to spike up

A lot of people who criticise Bethesda don’t know how hard it is to make a massive open world sandbox where every object is interactable and every NPC is killable on top of having dynamic events.

No shit when you have that many systems interacting with eachother in a sandbox context, some unexpected consequences and reactions are going to occur.
