Robin Williams absolutely worshipped his daughter. He would never have taken his own life unless he was truly suffering and could no longer remember who he was.

        Dementia and Parkinsons are horrible.

        We all miss you Robin.

I don't dick ride celebrities and I didn't know the guy or anything, but I always get a positive vibe from him when I see candid shots like these.
Which is sad considering what he was going through. Seemed like he was a very good father, too. Any man's most important job.

I don't either. I'm 38 and grew up watching Robin William on TV shows, movies and stand up. He was always genuine and a good person. He struggled a lot with depression and being bipolar. That's why is was so important to him to make people laugh and smile, he knew what being sad and down all the time was like.

When he died the world became a sadder, colder place.

it was him killing himself before he forgot who he was

That's by far the most terrifying part for people with dementia of any kind and there are a lot of them who genuinely want to have some form of assisted suicide and frankly, it's inhumane to deny them that
There's plenty of cases where people with dementia die a "natural death" out of nowhere when they were bodily healthy-ish, and nobody questions it because in a good number of cases it's their partner or kids who helped them along

And after the suicide attempt doctors still keep them alive? Actual demonic behavior.

well these are often frail people in care facilities designed specifically to make it hard for them to hurt themselves in a moment of confusion so it's less about the attempt actually posing a genuine threat to them and more about it being them making a fairly miserable and feeble attempt that has no chance of succeeding but conveys their will pretty well

and that was in a good care facility, in bad ones there's some absolutely horrible things done to people, especially the ones with more advanced states of dementia, I'm talking facilities where they're just strapped to their beds and left to pretty much rot, only to get dolled up a bit when the family visits

A doctor's job is to make sure your body maintains homeostasis and functional. Past that, you're on your own, b***h

              Anonymous

I'm not sure about that, doctor's job is to protect life no matter what, and proposing euthanasia is some kind of disgusting loophole. Doctor should instead inform the closest ones and remind the patient that there are still people who need them even though they may feel more like a useless baggage which I presume is what leads them to sense of no purpose and helps portray suicide as the only option left

                Anonymous

a doctor's job is to provide care, not to save lives at all costs
and remember, we're not talking about people with physical disabilities here (although pretty much all forms of dementia have significant physical debilitation that go along with it eventually) but people who's mind is actively disintegrating

the people you'd tell them that need them? the inevitable truth is they'll forget who those people are, they'll forget who they themselves are, they'll lose everything, left in a constant state of confusion because nothing makes sense, no sense of time or space by the end

there's no cure, there's only delaying the inevitable and don't think that dementia makes you blissfully unaware, there's moment of lucidity where they actively realize just how much they've lost and in the worst cases know that the moment of lucidity is temporary

ever seen someone desperately try to hold onto a few memories only to lose them a weeks or months later? It's horrifying

People with dementia should be allowed to set up conditional euthanasia, it should be 100% legal for someone to say they want to die if they no longer remember who their husband/wife of 50 god damn years is

                Anonymous

You seem to forget that their closest ones do not forget who those people are or were. It's as if we allowed all mentally incapable to just end their lives even tho they themselves do not have the capacity of thinking properly and expressing their thoughts. And even in moments those moments of lucidity you described, imagine a truly depressed person with no will to live comes to a doctor and he suggests euthanasia instead of bruteforcing this homosexual against his will so that he may live on and potentially find some purpose. My point is that they should look for a way to make these people lives less of a tragedy, get some joy out of what is left instead of giving up on them and ending it

                Anonymous

you can cure depression you moron, you can't cure dementia, there is no getting better, only worse
There is no way to make their lives less tragedy, that's the entire point, they're going through the most horrifying hell imaginable, having their mind, their personality, the very essence of what makes someone human slowly stripped away from them
whatever joy you give them is literally meaningless because they'll forget those moments of joy, faster and faster
whatever is left in the bed when their bodies finally give up is no longer that person, that person was slowly tortured to death

I would suggest you go volunteer at a care facility to see what it's like, it's eye-opening

Not all forms of depression can be cured.
Physical impairments such as the inability to produce enough catecholamines can be alleviated with drugs.
Robin was a cocaine abuser, and considering he was rich and famous he probably had near limitless access to the pure uncut stuff.
He basically reduced production parts of his brain down to serious levels.

NTA but worked as a nurse at a psychiatric ward in a nursing home (which is pretty much every ward in a nursing home nowadays as people tend to live home unless it is absolutely neccessary) and I've made up my mind to kill myself if I ever get any demetia diagnosis.
It's agony. Pure hell. It's not just a general forgetfulness. It's a complete failure of the mental systems that make you be (you). Most people are stuck in a state of perpetual anxiety, not knowing where they are or why they ended up there. Over time this usually leads to full on delirium. And then after years of being scared out of your mind every day, loss of motor function, loss of speech and years of being a near catatonic diaper-wearing lump of flesh that gets visits once a week if you're lucky. And god be willing we can keep you alive in this state for a decade.

                >I presume is what leads them to sense of no purpose and helps portray suicide as the only option left
No bro, it's the fact that even as your body continues to live, your mind is dying. Every day another piece of what makes you you dies and there's nothing you can do about it. It's like death by slow torture. It's no wonder they'd want to just get it over with. And no, nobody "needs" them, their family would want them, but they'd want them to be healthy and happy, not slowly losing their mind in agony with no hope of recovery. When the moments their loved one just isn't there outnumber moments of lucidity, the affected person rightly decides it's time to hang it up in one of those lucid moments.

No, overvaluation of human life has lead to the actual value of human life plummetting to the point where most humans are worthless and in fact worthy of death. Kind of like how allowing everyone to get college degrees made them worthless.

It was always common knowledge, his best friend Bobcat Goldthwait went on any show or podcast that would have him and told everyone. It was the mental health 'tragic suicide depression le creatives have' brigade that started the massive ad campaign about 'this is what depression looks like' that co-opted his death to push their message about getting mental health workers paid more money and giving more attention to teens and shit.

Williams' mind was going and he knew it, so on a day where he ha his faculties and remembered who he was he took action. He didn't want to live a half life in a body sometimes when he didn't remember who he was or felt like a burden or something. I don't know. But it wasn't a depression issue. It was literally seeing the dementia coming and he wanted to go out on his own terms. It was fricking tragic and the world misses him and wishes he was alright. But he had a really fricked up disease I wouldn't wish on anyone.

I love Robin williams but shortly before he killed himself he was a fricking mess and basically being carried for a paycheck in shit like night at the museum. He had rapidly developing dementia and the last remotely "I'm actually trying to act" shit he did was the butler. A film not even Ganker remembers exists and was thoroughly mid.

We don't ever fricking remember people until they die. If he'd not killed himself he'd be a literal who remembered by people old enough and non-existent to everyone else: Until he died. Can't wait for Bruce willis to suddenly be universally loved even though again all he was doing until the sponge brain got him was complete trash too and all he gets now is an occasional: Oh that's unfortunate, oh well.

        Anonymous

he had undiagnosed dementia, that's why he continued to try to act
Also Robin Williams always was fairly beloved, had a bunch of iconic roles and zero scandals of any kind and without the dementia he would have had a lot of performance in him left

My mother has dementia. In her particular case, she has comically short memory retention, like a goldfish.
She has brief moments of clarity and understanding, but then shortly after will go back to thinking she is perfectly alright, we're living in the 90s on her mother's house and I'm 15. Of course, those things are decades in the past and none of them overlapped.

cross is pikachu, you can tell from the purple controller for which there is only 1 purple plug and odenkirk is either player 1 or 3 based on the controller plugs in my image. in yours though you can see player 1 and 2 hands are left on the cursor while odenkirk is holding down on the left stick, probably making his cursor the one at the bottom. also in my pic hes looking at the camera, dejectedly, while kirby, player 3, is respawning.
